Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

Let's hope that Chitoge didn't have eye surgery in the past. The author might fool us by letting Chitoge wearing ultra-modern contact lenses or something. The main problem is both Onodera and Chitoge don't remember about the promise and the ending of the story at all. Have both of them lost their memories due to brain damages or they just aren't the right ones. Then the next question is about Marika behavior, it's either she doesn't about the book at all because she heard about it 2nd hand from Raku or she doesn't want to share their special memories with anyone outside. However, Marika had short hair back then hence it's unlikely for her to be the one. Perhaps there is still another one out there?

Neither of the possibilities are plausible. Eyes surgery doesn't change the colour I guess? Blue eyes are quite normal for a half-japanase like Chitoge, so contact lenses are unlikely. When you grow up you don't remember your childhood easily, it's normal they don't remember.
If Marika knows anything that make Raku likes her more she would talk, this is her personality, if she didn't talk, so she felt defeated for doesn't know anything or she knows something that puts her out.

I thought in a new girl, too ... It would be the more logical possibility currently. :hmm

"Eyes surgery doesn't change the colour I guess?"

It depends on how you definite the term "eyes surgery", but at least I agree this is a romance manga not some freak SF (you really don't want to know how the process happens).

Anyway, I really don't buy about the girls would forget something as important as the encounter, unless something happened forcing them to forget similar to the storyline in oneshot. Otherwise we'll have another new character like Onodera's younger sister appears in future chapter. About the picture on the book, the middle blond one is definitely Chitoge, then the rest are Onodera and Marika. It makes sense that Raku told Marika about the story in her room during her sickness such that she somehow got a key similar to the story, but I'm not so sure how the other 2 got their keys.

About the keys, I think there are four of them: hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades; thus we have one more (diamonds?) key holder showing up in the future.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

Eyes surgery changes the colour of the eyes should be a transplant, explanation too complex for a romcom.

As I said, it's difficult to remember your childhood easily, you can remember superficially, but not detailed like the situation requires, I still think that nothing uncommon happened before to make them forget.
In the picture book appear four girls, it reforces the idea of one more girl, but it's hard to take conclusions based in the girls in the picture book, the colour of their hair and stuff.
About the keys, if Komi tell about how the girl got them it will reveal if each of them is or not the promise girl, so it'll be said bit by bit, it's a important information of the story.

Seems like that arc will go far, currently I bet in a new girl. Let's see what Komi will do.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

It's very unlikely that Komi would pull a dialogue like "eyes surgery changed my iris color back then, so you (Raku) might be mistaken". Even if he is, that's going to be totally ridiculous in my book; I'm not even sure it's scientifically possible because of health reasons, cosmetic reasons, maybe.

I don't know how I'd feel if Komi adds another girl after this though. I don't close the possibility for Komi to do so either.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

Maybe the 4th Girl is Tsugumi.

I think Chitoge is really the promise girl.
Authors usually do that barrier thing to make the series more interesting and to let the fans react or something. It always goes back to the lead character.

Komi was influenced by Oda after all.
I hope his future story revelations would be as good as Oda.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

Maybe Komi wants to troll his readers in a way such that making Raku's memory totally unreliable, then later he takes back what he said earlier something like oops her eyes were blue after all, my memory deceives me all the time.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

Yeah, this isn't really anything... One of those fake developments it would seem. Though the picture book is interesting. Seems like the other girls/keys have some kind of importance in this as well, especially thinking about the ending. Maybe they have more chances than we think and the chosen doesn't have to be the one he'll end up with in the end. The ending of the picture book is probably a key component for the ending of the series.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

I really don't want this manga to end tragically, on the other hand life in this world isn't always perfect hence tragedies bound to happen all the time, but a comedy manga like this one has a sad ending is not good at all. Anyway, what kind of heartless writer wrote a tragic story for little children books? :headscratch

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

I don't think the manga will end tragically. What I was trying to say is that maybe he won't necessarily end up with the chosen one, but that he might be able to chose who he wants to be with. Like, maybe each key/girl is capable of opening the lock?
Having a bad ending in a childrens book would be cruel, indeed. However, I think it's not a sad ending per se, rather an ending that the girl didn't like for whatever reason. I'm expecting some kind of twist. It might also have an awful ending, but as MBVC said, it would be a little heartless.

Also wonder what Marika is hiding.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

Chitoge isn't the main character alone, every girl that has a key is main character, too. Also, the one who Raku likes is Onodera, there isn't guarantee that he will stay with Chitoge or the promise girl whoever she may be. The series even can last after the promise girl being revealed.
About Tsugumi being the 4th girl I think unlikely, aparently they never met each other before.

It's impossible a lock open with three differents keys, only one is the promise girl.
The picture book maybe has a clue to the end of the series, but it isn't totally reliable. There is no way the story being exactly equal to a fairy tale. I guess it's more a final that the girl didn't like, not necessarily a sad ending.

Seems like that what Marika is hiding will be a key point in this arc.

Re: Nisekoi by KOMI Naoshi

I'm not sure if the girl reading the book actually is the one he made the promise with. After all Raku didn't recall the promise until Chitoge told it everyone (as you can see by his puzzled look when Chitoge brings up the promise). It's obvious that something's off there, and I'm pretty sure Marika knows about it. My best guess is that she actually is the girl he's talking about and that she's aware that she's not the "promised girl", thus she wants to hide the story. It makes perfect sense, as it looks like she's the only one who clearly remembered the book since the beginning. Considering her immense love for Raku, there's no way she would reveal something that could give someone else a huge advantage.

So

Girl with the book = not the "promised girl" = Marika -> Wants to hide this from everyone. Obviously it's not a given, but a likely possibility in my opinion.

Maybe this is too dark for Nisekoi but is there any chance the promised girl is no longer alive?

Marika obviously knows something. When I searched my brain for reasons why should would. The first place my mind went to was, maybe it's something she thinks Raku shouldn't remember. It also might explain some of her duplicity. I guess, I always assumed she was trying to act like Raku's dream girl but maybe it's more like she's trying to act like someone in particular. Someone she remembers.

Good guess, it's very likely, as you said but still there is the fact that the first encounter between Raku and Marika was in the hospital, she had very weak health. Would she go outside of the hospital with this?
Also, Marika had short hair in the past, and the girl with the book had long hair.

The promise girl is no longer alive? I think too much dark for a comedy, but why not? It would be interesting.
Marika could be hiding something even more serious, if she had a sister or something?

Interesting thought :o Doesn't seem likely considering the story so far but it would be a nice surprise. That would give none of the girls an advantage I guess, so it's definitely an option.

Ah right, which chapter was that? And I wouldn't consider any of his memories or Marika's stories as a clear given, considering that Raku seems to barely recall anything so far, and Marika obviously hiding something. Maybe her being the girl with the textbook is a bit too easy but it has to be either her or someone she knows well, it looks like she's the only one clearly remembering the event. If you take a look here, she's the only one who looks pretty desinterested and somehow sad, no doubt it's kinda connected to a tragic memory of hers.

Marika talked about their first meet here, apparently she has the best memories about the past so far, so her story is reliable and there is others scenes with other characters saying that she has weak health even now.

Yes, I guess so. It was because there is a possibility that she had a sister or even a friend in the past. We know that she is clearly hiding something, but what I have no clue because how she knows something about this if she were in the hospital all the time in the past?

No doubt she has poor health :XD I'm just questioning if that really was their first meet. From the looks of it, Marika didn't remember the book at first. She did look surprised and spaced out, so maybe after seeing the book she was reminded of something she forgot. So I feel like she definitely saw the book before, or was told of the story, which leads to the fact that the girl is either her (we don't really have a timeline here, Raku just mentions him being pretty young) or someone she knows well. Another sister would be kinda weird, one is enough for me :XD Maybe a friend yeah, possibly even one of the girls. I mean none of them seem to recall much and I would rather prefer her being one of the girls we already know, instead of adding another one.

And I think she never said that she was in the hospital all the time. It looks like she was taken there from time to time, because of her poor health, but not so poor that she could never leave the hospital for years.

I think she saw the book, not only heard the story because she looked serious just when she saw the book, not after she heard the story. However, I'd like more if she just heard the story, makes more sense. She could have heard the story through Raku himself or someone else, even the promised girl herself that talked about the promise with a boy (Raku) with her. Marika could have remembered that conversation and knows who is the promised girl. This makes sense with Marika's personality, too, she wouldn't tell something that could make her to lose. Marika's secret is the main point in this arc for sure.

Indeed, there isn't a timeline, but Raku looks the same in the hospital and when he made the promise, so the time between this two facts is little. About how much time Marika stayed in the hospital, yes, she certainly didn't stay there for years, but apparently all things about the past happened in months, it's my sense.

Another girl would be good with a good reason, I don't have problems with this and I don't see how the other girls can have a key, too. Ruri and Tsugumi are the only ones that leftover. Ruri is quite impossible and Tsugumi is unlikely.

If Marika happens to be the promise girl but she must die in the end because of her uncured illness then it really fits the tragic theme of this manga: The brain damage Romeo & Juliet must die!

Chapter 91 is out: http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/nisekoi/en/0/91/

Seriously, this chapter gave me the nerves, it was really good, though. xD
Chitoge frustrated thoughts was excellent, how she thought that she can't even win against a memory. Also, the interation between those two was good.
In the end Raku managed to remember something about Chitoge, but he didn't complete the phrase. D:
Probably Chitoge isn't the promised girl, but someone else that got a keys after. I don't have a clue on how this distribution was made. :hmm

Now the question is if this Raku with his memories regained can remember about his past like before or not. And still has Marika and her secret, this party promises. :zomg
