Wasn't Oda giving a joke answer as opposed to a confirmation?

He was being coy. His last sentence in his little "aside" pretty much confirms it.

Readers knowing something the characters themselves don’t know would be weird… I’ll have to bluff my way out of this one…!

Implying that readers figured out that the two were related (using the information provided by the One Piece Encyclopedia - Vivre Card Oda conveniently name dropped), but in universe, Franky and Queen were not aware that they both on Onigashima. It's simply Dramatic Irony (the audience knowing something the characters don't), but Oda plays it up as it being weird. So he "bluffs" his way out of giving an answer. And in saying no, he pretends he bites his tongue, as if he were so nervous about the bluff/lie, he couldn't get it out right.

Consider the entire context of both the question and answer.

The question is about Queen and Franky's relationship.

Oda answers by bringing up specific dates brought up in Queen's Vivre Card information. The year he had a son as well as the year he abandoned the son. He then goes on to confirm that the dates line up with Franky's birth year as well as the year he was taken in by Tom. He is going out of his way to bring attention to the details that show a link between the two characters. It is not just referring to a single aspect, but the whole of the information given in the Vivre Card about Queen and the information we know about Franky's past.

Franky knows about his own past and being abandoned. Queen knows about his own past and the abandoning. That is something that both are aware of in universe. What they don't know is what they been up to in the past 26 years. Both of them look completely different and are going by completely different names. These are things that we as readers know, that Queen and Franky don't. Thus Oda commenting on the dramatic irony of it all being weird.

Oda then straight up says he is about to lie and proceeds to (humorously) lie to the questioner and tell him no, when in fact, the answer would be yes.

There's no telling. It could've been left on the cutting room floor with a bunch of other Wano stuff, like the Beast Pirates having a bunch of trick weapons. It could just be world building flavor that was never going to see the light of day but he added for his own benefit as a writer. Many writers often have stuff like planned out that that doesn't need to be revealed since it adds nothing to the story they are telling. It just "informs the character" so to speak.

There's no telling. It could've been left on the cutting room floor with a bunch of other Wano stuff, like the Beast Pirates having a bunch of trick weapons. It could just be world building flavor that was never going to see the light of day but he added for his own benefit as a writer. Many writers often have stuff like planned out that that doesn't need to be revealed since it adds nothing to the story they are telling. It just "informs the character" so to speak.

I suppose it could be addressed if Oda decides to bring him back for plot reasons. Otherwise, though I don't mind if he's totally gone. That guy was both an idiot and unprepared bully to have faced Marco, Sanji, and the Straw Hats as a whole. An asshole just like Kaido and his cronies, so good riddance.

OP fans sure damn funny, they complaint if Oda extand story, also complaint if Oda not extand story, Oda are creative fella who has a lot idea for story, but he aware he cannot add all into the story, like How Law n Kidd start their pirate crew, he have the idea but but dont wasted in into main plot, so he add it to SBS, same like Zoro n franky lineage, Oda dont want add up another necessar drama to expand the story progress, so he just leave it in sbs,,
But fan will complaint for whatever Oda did.

I somehow had no idea Queen had a 'real' name, considering his real name is never used even by his old coworkers who would've only known him as "Scien". It is funny that Jack's name is just Jack, though.

The fact that Oda didn't have Momo make Yamato his employee and it telling us to look forward to her return further tells me he has bigger plans for her that justify delaying her recruitment. I'm def interested to see what they are.

I’ve always thought Moira was the best Warlord when it came to doing Warlord duties.

His Thriller Bark operation was exactly the sort of thing the WG hired Warlords to do.

He didn’t set up in a WG country and terrorize it like Doffy and Crocodile, he just set up a big pirate trap which stopped thousands of pirates from getting near Shaoboady and the Holy Land.

When the WG called in the Warlords for Marineford, he showed up and fought hard instead of just goofing off like everyone else.

Never made sense to me why they ordered his execution at the end of the war.

The Shanks/Shamrock think really was a litmus test for reading literacy.

It was very clearly Shamrock the moment we knew Shanks had a twin and you could have guessed it prior due to the why it made no sense as to why the Gorosei and Imu didnt absolutely wreck him the moment he showed his face to them.

Even the wording Gorosei used was insanely careful when talking
