Oda really off screened Zoro's family tree... at least we know he has Ryuma's blood now. And the visual connection makes sense

I think Oda was mainly only concerned about the Ryuma parallel and enough hints were dropped about it in the story to pretty much confirm that Zoro is the next incarnation of the Sword God. I can see why he left all of those extra details out because, honestly, they really don't add to anything to Zoro's character path. I will say that Oda could've easily folded it into some dialogue in the Kozaburo flashback though, like Kozaburo confirming that Zoro and Kuina were cousins or something.

Seems like there were a couple of questions about Sanji that clarified more of his abilities. Oda says that Sanji's latent genes are responsible for his resistance to heat, however, another questions straight up asks him where Sanji's flames come from, but instead of saying they are the result of his genetic mods, Oda dodges answering again. So, Sanji's DJ/IJ is still a mystery, though it seems like Oda will explain it in the future.

*Better translation clarified that the heat resistance translation was off and it had nothing to do with Judge's genetic stuff, so yeah, DJ and Sanji's relationship to fire is still a bit ol' question mark.

A long flashback about his grandparents wouldn't have been needed, it could have been done in two pages of time-jumping scenes, but I would have definitely liked to see a flashback about his relationship with his parents and their deaths. Every strawhat except for Brook and Zoro have that.

I'll guess that his father's death motivated the Pirate Hunter thing.

Shimotsuki village funders flashback would have been greater in the manga than in a SBS - the chapter where Shimotsuki Kozaburo the Enma swordsmith appeared was 10/10. We did not need to have the full Zoro family tree explained in manga but a glance of it through the funders travel to East Blue would have been nice.

As it turns out, Tama is Kurozumi Tama and related to Orochi

This one was really obvious. Pretty sure I called it out on the forums about a year ago, or maybe more.

He was likely an orphan at an early age, similar to Nami. We don't know her true heritage, but we have Bellemere as her surrogate. Kurshirou and Kuina basically functioned as Zoro's surrogate family from what we've seen.

I don't think it's that deep. Mihawk is his goal and happens to be a pirate. Zoro likely became the pirate hunter as that was the path that would lead him to eventually meeting Mihawk. Plus, taking out pirates is an easy way to test your skills without much fuss.

With Oda's habit of for some unknown reason needing to give every fucking member of this crew some unique heritage (why can't the characters just simply be unique on their own?) I wouldn't be surprised if we run across some bullshit showing that Nami is related to some hugely influential woman in the OP-world, or something. I mean at this point I wouldn't be surprised if we found out Chopper's deer-daddy was a crew member of Roger.

Damn, that sucks.......

Surely Oda could've just squeezed in one chapter for Zoro's lineage and tied it to him visiting Ryuma's grave? He really had to do this shit in an SBS, smh

For what it's worth, I am at least glad that Zoro wasn't some weird Ryuma clone or something, dude is like a 100 generations apart from Zoro.

Wow a lot of info came out of this last SBS. Man Orochi truly is an a-hole if he didn't help his other clan members when he came into power. The fact Tama & her parents got the same treatment as everyone else despite being of his clan makes him truly terrible to a new level.

On the Zoro thing I'm very disappointed that this didn't happen in the manga itself in a way that Zoro as a character learned it. I'm less interested in knowing it as a reader since its always been clear that Zoro & Ryuma have a connection. I wanted to see Zoro learn about his own family history (not the tree per say) but the culture & heritage he came from. It could have been a good growth opportunity for him to develop a personality and more nuance to his goal e.g. imagine him wanting to be WSS not just for Kuina but for his family & legacy.

That would have been awesome with this context. Like imagine Zoro at the grave returning Shusei himself and pouring some sake, one for the grave and the other for himself. Zoro could have restated his goal of being WSS to the grave with the realization that Kuina was more than just a friend but an actual relative to him.

Honestly I genuinely don't care either way, information like this doesn't help the story progress so I'm fine with it being in the SBS(im talking about Zoro's lineage), I would have perhaps liked if Zoro visited Ryuma's grave and Hyogoro happened to be there to ask him if he's Shimotuski descendant with Zoro responding that he doesn't know who his parents are.

Something like that perhaps.

The mystery around Sanji's fire ability increases even more... he HAS to have Lunarian DNA somehow

And that Yamato may end up defending Tama from discrimination like how Oden did for Kawamatsu and the Minks.

It almost angers me that oda is all "I don't think we need to elaborate on this further". I mean, why build this up over god knows how many chapters? Oda could at least have the decency to admit he wanted this to be relevant but when the time came he couldn't fit it into the arc.
