They shoot quite a lot of thing in Cape Town, so could be something else as well. But intriguing never the less. I really like Boyega, but can't think of a role for him.

The twin could go for Coby. Maybe too young though. If they are both in it, maybe Carrot and Onion? Rounding down Usopps posse to two characters. Flashback Sanji also plausible.

Hmm, I see people casting Boyega as Yasopp, but he feels too big of a talent for a role that is like 5 minutes of screen time / is totally cuttable in a series where a lot has to be cut and streamlined. Unless they make Usopps backstory longer to make it more in line with the rest of the crews more expansive backgrounds.

With his recognition I'd say recurring role. With Owens stating that the season would be less episodic, that could mean a character from later in East Blue would debut earlier for setup and development. Smoker, Hachi, Arlong feel important enough. If story is expanded, then plausibly Gin or Maybe even Krieg.

Could be totally out of the box Buggy as well

I don't see it ever actually happening but my favorite fan casting atm for Yasopp is Daveed Diggs.. he's just got the looks and the swagger to pull it off.

But if they're (supposedly) not even casting a big name for Shanks then his crew are even less likely to.

Emily Rudd just teased they are currently taking interior reaction shots to gunfire at a farmhouse location. Orange Town? Syrup Village? Could be anything really.

Oh lol, my bad. He is the main writer yeah. But he's also one of the executive producers (I read that and thought I remembered him being showrunner). Still, it still takes away this image you might have a of a faceless corporation (Netflix) profiting on something they don't know, and actually gives hope that they will do the story justice.

Thing is, this isn't anything. It already is the most succesful comic by single author, Oda will certainly beat JKR in sales, and he will also outlive Danielle Steele, which will make him the most succesful fiction author alive (and since everything becomes more and more digital, who knows maybe he will also be the last one to definitely claim this position). This isn't niche genre stuff, it's world literature and the flagship of the entire anime/manga genre, in turn of utmost importance for the cultural significance of an entire country.

One Piece is huge, and the biggest story of its kind there is at the the moment!

Anyone who has two brain cells should know this is gold, it can be the next Game Of Thrones, or bigger! Heck, with enough money behind it, One Piece could easily blow the MCU into oblivion, but Netflix doesn't have this money (probably no one has, lol). Still, this will be done high quality, I think.

Wether this is enough to please me, someone who spent the vast majority of his life on this story, and who has already been occupied by all its central themes even before, that is another story. Kinda weird, I always used to make fun of purists lamenting about changes and cuts, now I am in that same position.

Though, if their budget is large enough, East Blue Saga should go without any significant story cuts. Basically I think it's already hard turing the 20 chapter arcs into more than one episode. Rather than cuts, we will likely actually see extension, as they need to keep their contracted actors busy.

Alvida for example, I could easily see having an extended role, both versions, actually! Like the Manga plot of Luffy punching the overweight one would take two minutes on screen. I'd rather see at least half of the first or the entire second episode be the Luffy-Alvida-Coby plot. Etc. Etc.

Oh, nice. Seems good atleast looks-wise. Garp has the exact same jaw. I'm not familiar with any of them though before hand, so hard to say. But I'd say it's save to assume there won't that big A list actors in the show. Now know most of the major characters. The ones that are left are Jeff, Kuro, Krieg, Gin and Mihawk. And I dont think its out of the realm of possibilities that Kuro, Krieg and Gin are handled quite differently in the series. Could be completly cut and their role could merge with those of Buggy, Alvida and Arlong pirates.

Nice! Good to hear - the way he talked about the series totally sounded fit for showrunner. Might be that the studio wanted someone more experienced to the role, Maeda, but decided to give Matt the chance if the younger guy grew up to the role during production.

It's gonna be a little controversial that again majority of the black actors are blue most of the series. I hope they bring in some world-building and exposition from Fishman Island arc to this season, so people will maybe get it that in this series it's for good reasons because of what it parallels in the original story.

And yeah, seems mostly relatively unknown names, I recognize Arlong's actor from Ozark but that's about it. They all seem pretty on point looks- and vibe-wise. Can totally see the Helmeppo guy doing a good "obnoxious".

Expected someone renown in comedy for Buggy, not an S.H.I.E.L.D Agent I have completely forgotten. But I trust their judgement on this.

I have total trust with that resume that Garp can pull off a hardened navy veteran. Checked that he was the captain that was Leonidas' best friend in 300, so if my memory serves right he can also pull off the kind side of Garp. I faintly recall he was the one who tried to protect the young spartans specifically or something like that.

Official One Piece Twitter teased there is going to be some sort of announcement regarding the live-action on 28th. I think it is way too early for a trailer and maybe even too early for even an teaser. I think it's going to be costume reveals with the main cast.

Not really, no. They revealed the Film RED girl, the card game and the new video game (an RPG, nice!). Also some tame stuff like the 25th anniversary logo and which older OP films are coming to Netflix streaming and so on.

That's possible, like merge him and Jango's side story (Hina's introduction) with the Garp and Coby side story. Both are about two guys joining the marines after all.

Though I do like the sound of cutting Pearl out of the plot... bottom tier OP character for sure.

Okay Twitter just reminded me why I don't like most of the OP fandom. It's juch so dumb and hasty.

Myriad of people are now clamouring over "Garp never defeated Roger, live-action is already f'ing it up"

When people point out that this is just obviously World Government propaganda and completely in line with the mangas indications, they proceed to argue that "well proceed to show the exact panel with this same poster that credits it to Garp, real Garp would never take credit"

Seriously. This happened in the manga as well - Crocodiles defeat was credited to Smoker despite his wishes. WG does that.

Besides this is how characters are set up, introduced and developed in tv and films. We learn Garp is legendary marine hero who hunts the greatest pirates. Then we learn he is right behind our protagonists footsteps. We are worried for protagonist. Then a side-character meets him, and we learn what he really is. At the same time we learn, what the WG/Marines are - liars and manipulators, but not without hope as some good individuals are sprinkled in. There is drama in telling the story like this, playing with expectations.

Jeez. They could really ruin the live-action, but "Garp defeated Roger"-poster isn't what does it.

Yeah I love parts of the One Piece Fandom, who relish in the depth of the story and the themes and intricacies of the world... but then there's those who feel like they just skimmed through the series a month ago and now act all elitist for some reason. Twitter being the most toxic example of that is no surprise.

Well yeah, not that I also wouldn't love the fandom. I'm here after all.

I must say, that it feels poetic, that the first set leaks are from "where the great age of pirates began". I mean, they've been at it a while now, and according the little we know, they did not start the shoot with the execution scenes. Series are not necessarily shot in chronological order after all.

While I was at first a little off put by all the yellow, I must say that now I kind of like it. The whole idea of turning Rogers execution into a festive event makes sense, as that what the WG wants it to be seen as - a party to get rid of the great evil of the world. And I love the the great dramatic irony that is going to slap them in the face like Will Smith, when it all backfires and becomes a horrific PR nightmare after Roger gets his last say. It turn into a pirate festival.

The yellow also evokes a nostalgic, retro feel which suits the execution just perfectly.

I also love the fact that whoever took those photos highly likely remembered that one panel from the manga, since they managed to get the almost exact composition for the pic.

The way they're really building all these ships.

I can imagine the actual restaurant/building portion of the Baratie will be CGI'd onto it, but this is great nevertheless. Can't wait to see all these ships actually finished, and in a better light and color grading.

They are going all out on the ships, and I love it. Yesterday I saw picture of Merry, which was slightly derpy with the mouth open. It wasn't that bad, but made me wonder if yesterday's date was related.
