I've watch the episode 4 times. I felt it was a phenomenal revelation of G5. As for the complaints about pacing I can somewhat agree and god do I wish they pushed the Hoyori and Orochi stuff into the next episode but it is such a small complaint.

The reuse of the bouncing animation is I feel people just nitpicking because they need something to nitpick and that's fine but a bit of an eyeroll of a complaint.

I'm okay with the change of us seeing G5 before Kaido is drug uo because I already got that suspense in the Manga. I'm glad they did things differently and it wasn't an exact copy of the Manga.

The anime team did such a terrific job of showing how insanely powerful G5 is from splitting the sky to destroying the landscape with his laughter.

It was the perfect mix of comedy and "holy shit" and the frames that showed a darker almost demonic side to the transformation was just so well done to show that "no its not all goofs, this is a literal God you are looking at"

Yamato said a floodgate of enemies would be opened to invade Wano now that Kaido is gone. But if that’s true, where are the enemies? Why is Momo not attacking anyone? Why is he just standing around? Why is he not bruised?

Then take it to the appropriate thread so we can ignore it over there
I wouldn’t even be talking about this if Oda hadn’t have decided to show what he did, so if Oda is in his right to show what he did, then I’m in my right to bring it up where it’s relevant to analyze and discuss. And if you don’t care to discuss it, then respectfully, you can move right on as anyone else can.

Like I said. This is not the thread to bring it up. There is a thread designated you can go to. Your point is really bad so doubt anyone is going to fall for it. It's a bad troll

Edit: oh it looks like you already wrote the exact same comment over there already and didn't get the response you were looking for

The animation of Gear 5 was great. The pacing of the episode sucked. Direction was so so.

Someone pointed this out on another forum, but the manga kept Luffy's full form hidden until Kaido himself saw him. Here, they couldn't wait to show him off. I like the build up of the transformation for the most part, but they killed the intrigue.

Also, once again, the anime has an odd habit of misunderstanding abilities for some reason. I don't know why they still insisted on having Luffy blow up his arm to enlarge it. Gear 5 makes it so he has absolute freedom over his body, so he doesn't need to do that.
I honestly like the pacing because it gave more time to take it all in. lol

Lol. What a wild take.

Alternate take: Some people have high standards for animation, and others just want to see Luffy covered in an aura-bukkake splitting the sky in new ways that never actually happened in the manga.

I'm a bit mixed on the episode itself but lean positive. I definitely feel they captured the feel of G5 really well - the cartoonishness, the sheer power of it all & his stature as a god, they really brought in the sun component, and the mental effects it has on Luffy (he def seemed like he was rolling).

What I didn't like were two big things. I hated the inflating like G3, a def a nitpick, but I felt it made G5 look weaker than it is. Then the worst part was the bouncing back of the bolo breath. This is not a nitpick for me since it was just poorly drawn, colored, and "filmed" since the camera went in and out too quickly.

Overall it was def a hype episode. And it did live up to what I expected they'd release and I am hoping they actually saved more of their budget for next episode where they really duke it out.

On a separate note the level of mental effect the transformation has makes me wonder, can Luffy use future sight in G5? He doesn't seem calm or mentally collected enough for it which could be one of his growth opportunities.

A wild take that people will nitpick the smallest things? I guess if you say so. It was used what 3 times and combined it took less than a minute out of the episode?

Yes that's a nitpick

Yes, it’s a wild take and it’s not about the time (which it was more than a minute, but whatever). It’s about the shitty animation quality. Being annoyed at consistently bad animation is not a nit. This was par for the course for One Piece anime, but this episode should have been an exception to the normal shit animation quality. I stand by my opinion that it was a bukkake of shitty auras, missed opportunities with sound effects and music, and crap padding. An episode of One Piece shouldn’t be a “glitch in the matrix” parody.

Still, I’m glad someone enjoyed it.

Damn shame not every can appreciate greatness when they see it.

That was so freaking hype.

I'm actually excited for the next episode. I'm hoping the animation stays the same but that would be expecting way too much.

Also the cgi Kaido was weird, hope they stay away from that in the future

I'd imagine if this was a seasonal show it would have the level of expectations people are putting on it. It's hard for OP to be like AoT, Jujutsu, Bleach etc. And when it comes to special episodes where they really go in I'd say OP still reaches those same peaks. It's just what they consider special doesn't always line up with what everyone expects i.e. OP has gone down the DB route with aura's and it's unlikely to change back.

I definitely get that the auras are annoying and off putting for a material source like One Piece, I just don't get the constant need to complain without end about how unnecessary the auras are. I hated them too but at some point we have a fan base just accept this is the direction toei wants to go?

Every time the animation gets to a high level it's the same complaint "stupid aura's" I mean I have no room to talk since I was like that in the beginning but by the time the invasion began it was just something I had to accept.

I agree with you. I don't think they are going away. Mainly because these episodes, despite the nitpicking, are getting positive feed back. A majority of viewers seem to like the auras and it sucks but it is what it is at this point.

The animation from this episode was godly there are just a few nitpicking things I'd complain about. Still 10/10 for me despite the small things

Repeating animation and non-canon stuff like the sky splitting I don't mind nearly as much since it can be edited out easily in fan projects like One Pace. What I cannot stand is bad choreography. The boro blast reflect is one of my favorite parts of the whole fight in the manga and it just doesn't really exist in the anime.

I honestly wonder if this is a left brain vs right brain thing because this seems to be the biggest crux of the episode. 50% of views didn't know what was going on while the other 50% went absolutely wild over it.

I was able to follow it with easy and I for the life of me cannot understand where the confusion is. My buddy told me he had no idea what was going on, like it looked like alot of nonsense. He had to watch it a 3 times to see it lol

Outside of the sky splitting, Luffy moon walking down to lift the earth wall up to deflect the Boro breath was my favorite part of the episode

I am kinda surprised at the theme they went with the drum's of liberation in the anime. Luffy's heart is a full one one man... heart party. I suppose thematically it makes sense but it still feels like too much. In my head it was more of a simpler jazzy beat. If this is going to play in the background every time luffy fights with his awakening... TBH it sounds way too annoying.

The boro blast thing was the cherry on top for me where I was like “yep they screwed this up.” The other stuff can be edited, but with an episode like this, everyone is going to watch it the day it comes out which is how it will go down in history. It’s pretty sad that so far for me of all the Gears, Gear 5 had the poorest debut representation on screen.

Gear 5 in the anime was even more ass than in the manga LOL 💀, didn’t know that was possible. I’ve come to realise that looney toons piece is wildly overrated, it’s just a slightly above average shounen
