If you superimpose these eyes on Doflamingo typical smiling face, he look A LOT like the Joker from Batman.
What if DD had droopy eyes? :XD We can't really judge from that shot, but if it's the case, it would explain why he wears shades all the time. It would definitely give him a weird look, or maybe even a sad face.

I don't wanna sound like I complain too much, but right now it's good, it wasn't always the case lol. I think some people have a little problem with the art at first. And what I like about Oda's art isn't the fact that it's realistic, or appealing, but the amount of details he puts in it, and how he makes each character unique. Some characters have such unique physical features, add to that the clothing the expressions etc. It's what makes OP so special imo. That's why I think that on the long run only Oda can draw OP the way he's drawing it right now, by having maybe not the best art out there, but surely one of the most original ones. And I don't think it would hurt the manga if for once another artist took a shot at drawing it, even if it's just for one chapter, especially in the more serious moments, like the one we had this week.
Yeah, I agree, though the artwork wasn't that bad at the beginning. The action scenes were quite powerful and the art was simple and goofy (pretty fitting), though it's inferior to the art later on.
Anyway, I still wouldn't want anyone else to draw it. Even the serious stuff. Especially the series stuff! The goofiness of his drawings are so important for the whole atmosphere.
But let's put this discussion to a rest. Let's agree to disagree.

Just a little thought that came to me regarding these pictures:
and:

I still can't believe that Moria thought for a second that Oars with Luffy's Shadow inside would be enough to triumph over Kaido, let alone help him achieve the title of Pirate King, what a delusion. I think that Luffy, in a way helps villains, by waking them up from the delusions they trap themselves into and he does that by as much force as needed to get to their tough skulls. After that, they can move on to do better things in life like Buggy and Crocodile have been doing. That might be the reason as to why they seemingly don't hold grudges against Luffy when they see him later, as they on some level, realize he has done them a favor in a strange sort of way. This can be seen recently in Bellamy's case, as these villains don't necessarily believe the protagonist's ideals to be completely wrong, it's more of a case of them living in a non idealistic world thus they need to see the proof of such ideals and that proof is the good old might. This also ties in to Doflamingo's speech about the victors writing history or reality if you may allow me to say, so in a way, Luffy, the good protagonist substitutes the villains reality and force them to see his own through his titanic resolve. All of this he does subconsciously (of course as he is a baka
), and is another amazing quality he posses in addition to what Mihawk described about his ally making personality. Another hero, could have simply killed the villains, yet Luffy crushes their evil and sometimes unrealistic dreams and goes on giving them the chance to rebound and choose other more grounded dreams. Except for Enel, that guy is beyond repair.

The following paragraph belongs to a poster from Arlong Park with the alias "Tangaroa", with minor changes.

Been thinking that Luffy is like a divine wind, punishing those who stray from the right path while leaving better crews in their wake.
Dofla, Crocodile & Arlong were trying to start kingdoms, Kuro planned to murder his crew and escape to the land. Moriah had given up on true nakama for automatons but after Luffy was finished he was left only with his living crew.
Foxy was using the sacred Pirate games to graft and he too lost all his gains. Lucci and CP9 faced him and after the beat down became converts. Don Krieg tried to run from the grand line and lost everything. Wapol impersonated Pirates, just as bad, but now knows not to do it again.
Eneru has an endless sea to sail
Now Crocodile has returned to the sea and he's moving forward again.
Buggy, who has never really changed has done nothing but prosper.

Probably not everything fits but it's an interesting way to look at it.

I think that if another art style was used from day one, and Oda drew a tribute of One Piece with the OP art, no one would like it.
The art is part of Manga. It's a defining factor of a series. If you change it, you might as well change the plot too.

Lol why are we bringing this topic again? I don't think it would really hurt the manga if Oda wasn't responsible for the art for one chapter :huh Sure the art has become one of OP's trademarks, but the way I see it the art changed a lot from the beginning to what we have now. Can we really say what defines Oda's art? Other than the odd proportions, and some of the characters physical traits, I don't think it's that different from what we see in other mangas. One thing that I really like is the fact that not all characters look the same, but even then there seems to be an exception to that:girls. They pretty much all look the same. Heck even Rebecca looks a lot like Nami. Also it would be underestimating other artists, by saying they can't adapt their art style to OP. Each artist can see something different in OP, and picture the characters his own way.I was just talking of the possibility of it happening, in fact we can be sure that won't ever happen, because of how Oda handles his work.

lol, I was just commenting on how googlez felt about OP art. not about the one chapter thingy. The first image that was "branded" in our brains is OP with its Oda art so it's a normal reaction.

I think that's quite possible. It seems to me that a lot of these villains were holding into illusions, or instead of relying on their own strength they preferred to use underhanded methods. Crocodile wanted to find Pluto, Moriah used zombies, and now DD is manipulating people like a puppet master to get what he wants. Luffy, who is only relying on his strength and the loyalty and friendship of his nakamas, is the antithesis of that. He's constantly pushing his limits to realize his dream. I wonder how things would have turned out if Crocodile had a crew and decided to be a real pirate, instead of creating Baroque Works. He could have easily been one of the most powerful pirates. Same for Moriah, instead of going all emo and overeating lol, he should have started a new crew, he may not have been able to beat Kaido, but he would have still had some dignity, instead of becoming weak and relying on zombies to do the work for him.

Yeah but his post pretty much meant that he didn't want to discuss the matter further. Since I think a lot of people are against that idea of mine, so pretty much everyone agrees that the art is part of what makes OP, even me to a certain degree.
Also nice Berserk reference there.

Part of it but not the essence. Oda presents a certain ideal, an idealistic way of life (determined, mentally strong, free, romantic, unmaterialistic, following your dream without ever giving up...) which is represented by Luffy in all his traits, even his innocent, child-like behavior which can be over the top sometimes.
Some villains in One Piece on the other hand are used as an antithesis to Luffy. It was first introduced in the East Blue saga where Oda first established the themes ,with Loguetown being more or less the climax of that, before expanding on them on the Grand Line and now New World.
If we take Buggy´s materialism and his malice, Kuro´s cowardice in giving up on piracy or Krieg´s shortcut to strength, they all clash with Luffy´s ideals, so basically, to put it bluntly, you show what´s right (Luffy) by underlining what´s wrong (most of his opponents).
Now in Moria and Crocodile´s case, they both once were proud pirates with a dream, implied by both their stated goal to be Pirate King and their presence at Roger´s execution, but they were both initially denied that dream since they were both beaten and more or less crushed by people who either were part of the Yonkou and later became part of it (admittedly, in Croc´s case, we learn that only later). This is were real determination kicks in though, moving forward despite the tragedy you experienced and staying true to you and your dream but both Croc and Moria were not able to do that and now searched for alternative ways for power, basically Krieg´s mistake already, and also got comfortable in their position as Shichibukai since they lost their will to carry on.
They were already, mentally broken characters when Luffy faced them which also explains why Luffy could beat such opponents even though, considering their implied, past strength and their position, it should not be possible, since fights in One Piece, especially the ones Luffy fight, are clashes of will and determination.
Now in Croc´s case, it seems like Luffy´s display of real determination (almost dead two times, poisoned but still fighting) affected him, besides the outlook of having an opportunity to kill Whitebeard, in Moria´s case, we will see.
Luffy does not crush their unrealistic dream or anything though, since it would imply that his dream is unrealistic as well, but he crushed their way of following it.

Re: One Piece Chapter 768 Discussion / 769 Prediction

I wonder if there was a traitor D, and if Blackbeard comes from the traitor's line. So far, most Ds we have observed have been devoted to the people they care about and never hurt or killed their shipmate, with the exception of Blackbeard. Or is he really not a D?
Blackbeard is definitely a D., the main difference between Luffy and Teach's lines probably being that the Marshall D. Family betrayed the D. Clan during the Void Century. Teach's past is full of betrayals which also happen to be what Luffy despises the most and reminded quite often by Oda through the arcs. I don't think this is a chance.

I believe Luffy and Blackbeard carry the weight of their family lines among the D. Clan's history. I guess Blackbeard is seeking power as Pirate King: he is planning and betraying in order to reach the goals he has set to reach One Piece; whereas Luffy is seaking freedom: "I just think the Pirate King is the most free person on the seas".

Blackbeard's spirit is what made Whitebeard said he wasn't the person Roger was waiting for. Power was probably what made the Marshall Family betrayed the D. Clan in the first place. On the contrary, Luffy's spirit is why Shanks and Rayleigh believe he is to be the Pirate King. Shanks heard Luffy said the exact same words Roger said and Rayleigh was pleased when he heard Luffy saying "I don't want to conquer anything."

Blackbeard would probably try to conquer the seas as PK like Marshall Line probably wanted with the Ancient Kingdom's technology whereas Roger refused during the battle of the Edd War. So Luffy and Blackbeard's fight will be about the meaning of being a Pirate King and it will have echoes to the Marshall Family's betrayal during the VC.

Luffy would blow the Red Line with the Ancient Weapons to establish free travelling on the seas whereas Teach would conquer the seas and rule them thanks to his powerforce - isn't he collecting the strongest devil fruits? That is also why Teach is a Yonko and why Luffy never will and wants to beat them all.

I don't think so either. If anything, we'll probably see Blackbeard and Luffy fight at the end or have a second to last fight. They're similar in some ways, and different in many others. Luffy's MO isn't about power, it's about having fun with friends while Blackbeard wants power and fun.

I hope this is true, and that Oda goes with this. Blackbeard as a D is the biggest counter to what the D has been portrayed as. Two similar yet opposite personalities are destined to fight each other because of history and what each represent, as well as the actions of Blackbeard.

Whitebeard did at one point think Blackbeard could have been what Roger was looking for, if I recall correctly. But what sets Luffy apart from most pirates is that all it takes is a friendship for him to be willing to give his life up to help the person. He did not mind dying to save Vivi's country or bringing hell down on the crew just for Robin. Blackbeard however would not do any of that unless it benefited him in some way, which is why I think Luffy is one of those extremely rare Ds out of the Ds.

I'd like to say his dad and granddad are too, along with Roger, but I haven't really seen them do something of that scale. Maybe Ace?

Blackbeard would probably try to conquer the seas as PK like Marshall Line probably wanted with the Ancient Kingdom's technology whereas Roger refused during the battle of the Edd War. So Luffy and Blackbeard's fight will be about the meaning of being a Pirate King and it will have echoes to the Marshall Family's betrayal during the VC.

That is also why Teach is a Yonko and why Luffy never will and wants to beat them all.
Blackbeard would likely do that and do it in a cruel way. He seems to be going after powerful Devil Fruit users and sapping the fruit from them, something that Luffy wouldn't do.

I don't see Luffy saying no to being a Yonkou just because of Blackbeard, given what Whitebeard has done (protected Fishman Island and gave pirates a father figure). But he won't become a Yonkou or be considered one likely for the same reason he won't be offered a shichibukai position. I'm not sure if Luffy would blow the Red Line with the Ancient Weapons, I more see him as destroying it and making sure it never becomes utilized. Except for Shirahoshi, of course. I don't see him hurting her at all no matter what unless she became evil.

Re: One Piece Chapter 769 Spoiler Discussion

For exmaple Luffy doesn't have a personal beef with DD unlike in the past arcs before the NW started his enemy's where people who stood in Luffy's way or meant to harm him. And if Law has such a personal beef with DD he should be doing this with his crew who would do anything for him instead use a complete stranger. Oda changed and even in japane OP is loosing popularity but some "fanboy's" seem not to be able to see this as a fact. This does not mean that I'm saying you two are fanboys but rather I'm talking about the hard line OP defenders.

The fight beween Law and DD doesn't interest me one bit cause it is boring. And wasting panels on Bellamy is beyond me. He even wants to fight one last time. A good way to waste panels for such a character. Law already lost once and unike Luffy who when he looses it is due not knowing his enemy's ability, lost even though he knew fully well about DD's ability's.

Another thing is that after the crew was seperated for two years Oda seperates them again. Why? It's not like anybody favors seeing fails such as Chnjao, his gradsons and co instead to seeing the SH's crew's limits.
DoFlamingo does mean to cause harm to Luffy and his friends, which is why he has put bounties on their head, locked them into the Birdcage and earlier he used Ace's fruit to lure Luffy. DoFlamingo is pretty much after Luffy, even if it's because of Law's plan.

And why can't Law win the fight? Like you said, Luffy learns from his failures, why can't Law?
(And for the record, Luffy did lose to Crocodile fully aware of his powers)
Also the fight isn't even done, Luffy could still end up fighting DoFlamingo, or Law could win. We only have 1,5 chapters worth of fight to judge from, and so far it is almost even between them.

Last point, how much have One Piece really changed? Oda seperating the Crew is not something new. It is he has done in almost every single arc ever since Baratie, so it's not something completely new. Yes, Sanji and co. is completely out of the picture but IMO that's just for the better of the story, because with 9 main characters it's can be hard to keep focus which it already seems to be with, like you mentioned, Chinjao and rest.
So One Piece has in my opinion really only changed in the fact that it now focuses more on the story, rather than getting lots of "boss fights". :^_^

Like you yourself stated in your post without Law's influence Luffy wouldn't have a bounty on his head. Hell if not for Law then Luffy would have kicked Cesar's ass and left him on Punk Hazard and only due to Law's influencs Luffy is now wanted on DD's list.
Luffy once stated he wants to surpass Shanks and to do that Luffy needs to surpass or get the same position of the person Shanks couldn't surpass. Luffy already failed in that aspect cause unlike Luffy Roger had not any firendly feelings to join forces with anyone. In a sense Luffy already made it impossible for himself to surpass Roger with him joining forces with Law who is in one category with him. The same as Roger,Shiki and WB were in the past. And you didn't see WB joining forces with Roger or Roger with Shiki even though Shiki wanted to join forces with them.

And for a sidenote Law wasn't planned from the beginning and like the other SN's besides Luffy and Zoro all of them were forced upon Oda to create cause WSJ thought that the number of rivals for Luffy is to small. So Oda was forced to change the stroy he original had and the result is what we are getting since the NW started. Arc's that made OP fall in ratings and total number of selling volumes.

You should also read my second post, where I stated that Law should be fighting side by side with his own crew instead of making Luffy participate in this mess.

It seems like the old generation of pirates til Ace had some balls whereas the new generation is all talk. I mean Croc,Moria,Ace and so on all challenged a Yonkou on their own. Yeah they failed but whatever. BB made himself a Yonkou with his own crew and not by joining forces with other pirates too.

Yes, you are right. If Law weren't on Punk Hazard, Luffy wouldn't have been involved in a lot of the troubles that came with the alliance. But, it's not like the story would have changed that much, had Law not been there. The Straw Hats would still end up in Dressrosa, there would still be a tournament, Sabo would still be there, and so on. The alliance is simply a plot point that brings the Straw Hats to Dressrosa in the overall story of dealing with DoFlamingo, which we know was going to happen eventually.
Also, from what we've seen from the past it seems like Whitebeard and Roger we're on rather good terms. Better than Luffy and Law are at the moment.

Care to share the source? Seems like an interesting article :)
Even if WSJ decided that Law and the other Supernovas should be introduced and that the story should be changed, I find it hard to believe that the decided what the story should be changed into. I don't think WSJ are the ones behind this Saga.

To be honest, all of your posts seems to be more about hating on Law rather than discussing the chapters/arc.
Obviously you are entitled to your own opinion, I'm not gonna argue with that.
But I am going to discuss it!.. In a thread of it's own.

Could you elaborate on that last part with the old generation having balls? Like you mentioned, they lost against the yonkou, so I don't see where you are going with it?

Here is a bit of it. You can find all of it on apforums.
Kawashima: During the W7 arc, after they parted with Merry, I was assigned to One Piece from the chapter where Garp shows up.
That chapter happened to be ranked number 1 in the weekly poll with a massive margin over other manga, and that's when I realized how awesome this series was.
Oonishi: I started from the chapter where Kid, Law, and other Supernova Rookies showed up. But they weren't originally planned.
Watanabe: What!? Really!?
Oonishi: It was already decided that the crew will be separated at SA, but we figured that may not be enough to spice things up.
That's when Mr Oda said "Would it be more interesting if bunch of new characters showed up?"
Then 3 hours after that, he not only finished the designs of all of them, but had the fixed name ("name" is manga term for rough draft of the chapter) with all of them already drawn in
.

I don't hate Law. On the contrary I find his personality til he become an emo and powers great. And if used differently such as the WB for Luffy and Kid being the Shiki for Luffy it would have been great.

A link to the source would still have been nice. Anyway what you posted just shows that it was Oda that came up with the idea for new character and it was Oda that decided to introduce them into the story.
Also the supernovas was introduced in 2007 or 8, which was 4 years before Law showed up on Punk Hazard. I don't see how this supports what you said about WSJ forcing Oda to change the story he had planned, but oh well..

Google it.
The two guys talking in that Quote are editors of WSJ. One of them said that he things there need to be more characters which led Oda to create the SN's.
You said that Luffy wuld have went to Dressrosa weather Law was there or not, which is wrong cause if I don't remember it correctly Law led them there Luffy would have went to there too but would the log pose have led him and his crew there. DD wouldn't have put the mera mera no mi as a price if Law wasn't connected to Luffy. And so on. without Law the stroy would completly be another one.

Let's see if the editor Oonoshi didn't came up with the statement we need more spice then Law wouldn't exist most likely. And cause Oda created law and co he had to change the stroy in a few aspects. Such as making law being linked to DD, rescuing Luffy in the War of the best and so on. Which are all important things that happened and Law influenced big parts of the plot of it.

Re: One Piece Chapter 769 Spoiler Discussion

Honestly I think one piece seems lost its touch after part 2
I have to agree plus this arc been going on for to fucking long. I wouldnt be surprise if it goes until May of next year.

IMO another boring chapter. No wonder Assanitaion classroom is rates as being number one in WSJ. Wonder when Oda will realize that he is going the Kishi, Kubo way and goes back to his roots.
The worst chapter of One Piece is better than Assassination Classroom. I tried to read that manga twice and dropped it. Either way if the spoilers are true probably a boring chapter.

No, look at what you posted. It's Oda that comes up with the suggestion for new characters.

You said that Luffy wuld have went to Dressrosa weather Law was there or not, which is wrong cause if I don't remember it correctly Law led them there Luffy would have went to there too but would the log pose have led him and his crew there. What I meant was that Oda would have written the story so The Straw Hats would end up on Dressrosa, even if Law wasn't on Punk Hazard. There would have been some other plot device. It's not like they were not gonna get to Dressrosa. Punk Hazard clearly sets up Doflamingo as the villian, with or without Law.

I'm looking at it from a writing point of view. You do not change to the story to serve a character. Character serve the story, not the other way around.
Let's see if the editor Oonoshi didn't came up with the statement we need more spice then Law wouldn't exist most likely. And cause Oda created law and co he had to change the stroy in a few aspects. You don't know that. Law could have been planned to be introduced in Punk Hazard arc or maybe already at the Impel Down arc, but Oda thought that introducing him as part of the new character was better. No one except Oda knows.
I agree that Law resucering Luffy most likely wouldn't have happened had Law not been introduced. It would have been a bit odd if it had. But that does not have anything to do with the story so far in New World.
