I wonder if there is ever going to be another popularity poll for One Piece. I would love to see how all the old characters and the new ones would rank. The last one was released in 2008, about 6 years ago...

Most of those teenagers / adults, are probably die hard fans of One Piece and began reading 10 years ago (when they were kids). So, yeah, a shounen manga (a boys comic) never goes off it's business plan of selling to it's target audience. Thanks for the link though.

I'm just wondering has manga helpers ever held a one piece tournament where there are fights between characters and the fans vote for who they think would win and the winners advance to the next round? (Stealing the idea from prince of tennis) And if there has, could someone hold one for post time-skip characters since there are a ton of new ones and it would be really interesting to see how certain people matched up!

There was a tournament and it was actually held post time-skip, last year around this time. It is archived by now, but can be found here.
Naturally since the start was a bit longer ago even, there were no characters of the new world we see now. Those have a good chance to be included in a future tournament.

Well true but Blackbeard did "replace" Whitebeard, however that was just one of them. but unless one more is beaten we dunno how it will effect the "balance". Of course Oda may change his concept and the Yonko are just the first phase of the New World since that place is not fully explored, so other enemies may lurk.

Anyway I've been wondering since the introduction of Mihawk, how the hell do common people get to travel around the world?
Like, Pirates & Marines travel around the world since they have the necessary power to do so.
But how does an ordinary rich person get to travel to somewhere like... The West Blue for a specific event, then back to his small town deep in the Paradise side of the Grand Line?
If he isn't someone strong enough to travel the seas? Since he will get wrecked by Pirates.

But surely, ordinary people travel around from region to region in this series? Don't they?

I assume this falls under the "might never be answered" category by Oda.

But we can assume there are a few ways, like the sea train? Perhaps the government has some undersea motorway built? Vegapunk is probably the person that does this for them. There could be many ways to travel, maybe there are giant birds, like the ones Chopper used for citizens? Those were tamed by the WG? Maybe there are special ships guarded by marines so that rich people travel in peace? I doubt ordinary folk and poor travel much tho.

Agreed, since there are Sea Trains in Film Z going from Dock Island to Secon Island.
And Water 7, to an Shift Station in an island not too far from Water 7. But that's only a few.
And Tom built tracks to go the islands: St.Poplar, Pucci & San Faldo. Again just a few.

I like these theories I'll admit. The birds one being a bit unlikely but special ships guarded by Marines to escort the rich would make a lot of sense.
But I'm certain that the poor travel though.

How else do people leave their island and join a marine base?
Or do the Marines go around visiting islands asking who wants to be a recruit?

The concept of travelling in One Piece really bothers me lol.

The main thing that bothers me is the weather, and more so in the Grand Line, since only a select few that have skills as you said can navigate through hard seas. For example in real life, in the age of discovery not everyone can go to the New Wold(Americas), maybe Oda is pointing that out? And not everyone can go to the north and south pole. The weather - the Bermuda(Florian) triangle(lol), we might think that travel might be easy for us now, but One piece is some sort of mix of early modern and modern period when compared to the modern world, they have limited industry and technology. Education is also limited? From what I gather perhaps the world functioned differently before the Grand Age of Pirates, or maybe even there were means to travel but were destroyed due to pirate activity.

I can also see hot air balloons as a means to travel, remember Caesar? I think most of the workings of how the world is structured will be revealed when we meet Vegapunk.

And also to add, who had the sea train? Bases close to the government, maybe there is some sort of 1st world-3rd world development in OP as well, the government has the natural and human resources to live a life that is technologically more advanced?
