You're right, there are also alliances to build. So now I'm officially considering Dressrosa a "I'm collecting some plot material" arc.

The only thing that bothers me it's the fact that Luffy is facing Doflamingo this early in the story, to me he was one of the Big Bad Guys. (Blackbeard, Akainu, Doflamingo, Kizaru)

My guess is that Oda wants Luffy and co to face all the Shichibukai, before actually making them face the Yonko. So it makes sense to make him face DD now rather than later, because later they'll be too occupied with the Yonko to deal with them. And while DD is a big bady guy of some sort, he's still not Yonko level imo, but he's prolly the strongest shichibukai they had to face up till now, excluding Mihawk. There's also the last Shichi that wasn't introduced yet, so maybe we will see more of them in the future. Anyway facing DD now would make more sense, and would prepare the SHs for what lies ahead.

It seems that a few powerfull members count more than hundreds of subordinates like each of the Whitebeard commanders has. While I assume Shanks must have a much larger crew to maintain control over his territory in the New World, he brought only a dozen of his crewmates to Marineford and it was enough to intimidate the Marines.

Of course that's not the case of the Strawhat Pirates right now – but even with their current alliance with Law and the Colosseum participants they are having a hard time against the Donquixote Pirates, let alone handling the insanely powerfull crew of a Yonkou. And Kaido's army of 500 Zoan Devil Fruit doesn't seems to be normal even for the Yonkou standards.

Seeing how things are going right now in Dressrosa, I really think they need to get allies if not to take down the Yonko, then for the final war that WB talked about. It could be that this is what Oda is trying to do with this arc, so maybe we will see the effects much later, when the SHs are forced to face the WG again. Honestly at this point I can't see how the SHs will be able to take out the Yonko and their crews, I guess the monster trio could take out the "fodder" rather easily, but you can't exactly say that 500 Zoan users are fodder, plus other normal crew members, and finally Kaidou. Or maybe the Yonko have been hyped too much, and it's only the deceased WB and Shanks and their respective crews who are really strong. It's complicated, and only Oda knows what is going to happen.

We are already more than four years into the last 15 years of the manga though, with three/four more emperors and ending still to go. Kizaru is not one of the big bad guys despite him being a top tier character. It's Doflamingo<Kaidou/Big Mom/Akainu<Blackbeard.

As far as we know Scotch who is a member of Kaido's crew is not a Zoan, so that leaves the possibility of him having crew members who aren't DF users.

Yea cant argue with that, we dont know if he has an ability or not, im just going on the apparent animal theme and the fact that kaido seems to covet rare zoans, as seen from x drake. Im just hoping his arc they will focus on rare zoans because i find them very interesting.

What you're saying is also true, but I was making my list by categories:

Blackbeard probably is the strongest Emperor, and definitely he's the emperor Luffy wants to take down the most. And until BB is down Luffy can't claim his Pirate king title.

Akainu is now Fleet Admiral, so he is technically the strongest Marine officier. Obviously strenght is not the main criteria used to choose the person to put in charge of the military forces, but we know that the guy is also sharp minded and very determined to do anything for the sake of World Government.
He alone was enough to make Blackbeard run away with his double devil fruit powers and his upgraded crew.

Kizaru. Heh.
Until the last admiral is shown, I'm pleasing myself by branding Mr. Kizaru the nastiest of Admirals. To me, he's a lesser Akainu, only less powerful and blessed with unearthly dumbness. He's implied in a number of not-so-noble actions, and I think that no one will miss him the day he's absorbed by a solar panel. He's a big bad guy because he really needs a good spanking.


Doflamingo it's a special case.
He's strong. Not insanely strong, but still very strong. But his status as a "Big Bad Guy" comes from what he is and what he do.
He's clever, and he has some dangerous knowledge. He can blackmail the Tenryuubitos without consequences, he's radicating himself in the underground world, and he's also giving an insane amount of power to a Yonko believing that in the future he'll still be able to control him, despite his military force.
Not only that, to this day no one really knows what he's really trying to do.
Ok, he wants to destroy the Tenryuubitos and the world they created, and he does not care of the suffering this process can cause. But how he's going to do that, it's unknown.
He really wants to be the Pirate King? He's going to make Kaido clash with the World Government? Or he wants to be the only king of the entire world? No one knows.

I don't think this is the end for Doflamingo, it's only the first act.

It depends on if Momonosuke hallucination was because he just remember Doflamingo or it was programmed in the Artificial Devil Fruit as some people speculated. Who knows what is in the SMILE.

I think Doflaming's crew are quite possibly the most annoying crew and characters ever. Low quality work by Oda. Most other villains, bar Bellamy, have not been this bad and unbearable, other than Gedatsu or whoever faced Chopper and did things opposite on Skypeia Island.

Guys, please. This is a convo thread, so instead of posting mere statements, also tell us what it is that makes these characters bad for you. Maybe then we can go further and see for example if Oda does it intentionally to augment the hate for the villains.

I don't think they are bad, but they do have their problems. There are too many for one, and they kinda felt shoved in, with a few of them not adding much of anything. If Oda cut Machvise and Gladius, and had Buffalo stay defeated, I don't think nothing would be missed. I actually like Baby 5 so she could come back for another round. I also think their quirks can be a bit overpowering. Some of them are great, but when you only have one really serious character, which is Doflamingo, it's really an imbalance. Luffy's crew is quirky, but we have several members who still aren't all about the silliness of their quirk. Senor Pink is a fun character, but his shtick is old now because we don't know much about him. Also, they just don't seem as strong as they should. Maybe it's their quirks, but what they've shown, they seem to be a middling pirate crew, instead of a world famous Shichibukai crew.

I have stated this many times in the past, but their "quirks" are what makes them intolerable. I do not find Diamante's contradicting everything funny, nor is Baby 5 loving those who need her funny. None of the quirks are funny, they make Oda look like he's trying too hard to attempt humor and is constantly missing.

I don't know how Doflamingo has managed to assemble the sorriest bunch of saps in all of One Piece and form a formidable pirate crew with them. I wouldn't care if they were all off paneled to be honest. They're the only disappointments of the arc for me.
