From the looks of it it's a crane, which is a rather common symbol in Japanese imagery.

I don't think it ties as much it's him reusing old ideas...He did the same for Ryuma and Zoro, since Zoro's appearance is based on Ryuma's from his oneshot Monsters.

In Asia, a crane is considered as a majestic bird and specifically in Japan, it is a national treasure. It symbolises longevity, good luck and auspiciousness as it was thought to have a life span of a thousand years. Due to this belief, it is common to sight crane pictures and symbols in the Japanese' people day-to-day lives. There are crane paintings, photos, pictures, clothings, and even in Japanese' popular craft, origami.

I think the use of a crane symbol may well be a way to portray the Japanese culture and Oda is probably taking its significance as a use of a hint in his story (which he usually does).

Looking through it, Zoro is presented as a swordsman and what he wears and uses typifies who he is. As far as the story goes, we have already known that Wa no Kuni has samurais and ninjas. It is represented by Kinemon, Kanjuro and Raizou. Though we haven't seen the country yet, we have Momonosuke who is the son of a daimyo and a heir to the Kouzuki clan/family, which has its reference of Japan during its Feudal era.

With these "ancient Japanese" theme representations, we are seeing a stone which has hit two birds at the same time.

I have recently watched the One Piece TV Special: Adventure of Nevlandia which was aired in Japan last December, I wonder if anyone has watched it. I have also created a thread for those who are interested in the discussion.

On another note, the upcoming One Piece movie in July, "One Piece Film - Gold 2016", has some news updates. You may join in as well.

We know that Lord Oden was a part of Roger's crew, and he possessed the ability to read and write in the language of the Poneglyph. It's logical to assume that Oden's role as a Roger Pirate is synonymous with Robin's role to the SHs which is to decipher the Poneglyph's Ancient Language.

Spoiler: How did Roger...?

However, going back to Sabaody, we're told by Rayleigh that Roger simply had the Voice of all things ability (VOAT), and that's why he was able to both read and write in the Language of the Ancient Kingdom. This essentially eliminates the conclusion that Oden's role was to interpret the hieroglyphic like texts.

If we go back to Fishman Island where Luffy heard the Sea Kings speaking, the Sea Kings state that this phenomenon had been demonstrated by another in the past referring to Roger.

Based on these panels, my hypothesis and the premise of my thoughts tell me that the Ds all possess VOAT. Now that the context has been set, I expected that Luffy and Law if they came into contact or within close proximity of the Poneglyph, they'd find that they were able to decipher it.

The conundrum begins here, It's odd that Momonosuke is saying he can hear a Voice (presumably VOAT) the closer he gets to the Poneglyph, and Inuarashi then says that there was another who said much the same thing, and we know this is most likely referring to Roger as they wouldn't refer to Lord Oden as "him" due to wholehearted respect and adoration; we even see in the same scene, Kinemon refer to Oden as his Highness and inform us that what Momonosuke was experiencing was something that Lord Oden too experienced.

One can assume it's possibly referring to Observation Haki, but Observation Haki is not a big deal. Observation Haki is not what made Roger special, so It does seem that VOAT is what's at work here.

Spoiler: Law's distance from Momonosuke

It seems Momonosuke possesses the VOAT ability, on another note, it's quite interesting that Law is shown when Momonosuke makes known he can hear a voice, it hints that Law too heard a voice; in this scene or the build up to the scene, nothing much is going on, so why the focus on Law? So I'm inclined to believe he heard this voice too. If we look at the previous page, we can see that Law is quite distanced from Momo (hard to tell, but he's either in front or behind Franky), so I do believe he most likely heard the same thing too .

However, it seems the premise is contradictory because:

1. It hints that VOAT is at work here.
2. It implies the Kouzuki clan and D are the same (or closely related) because Momonosuke and Oden have similar disposition as Roger.
3. Why the need to learn the language if VOAT supernaturally allows one to understand and write in the Ancient language like Roger?

Quite a few oddities to reconcile, perhaps the premise is entirely wrong concerning Ds possessing the VOAT ability, but I guess more research is needed before any strong conclusions can be come to.

Cracked is a crazy good website if you enjoy little factoids about stuff. I love it. I m glad that other people know about that. It looks like oda possibly got the idea for Poneglyphs from these.

We still don't know yet, how the four yonkou are going to play out. It may not be all clashing at one time, but coming on gradually.

The detail is indeed quite impressive, but can someone explain to me how she has her eyes open in some pics, and closed in others? It's not like it comes with a detachable head and I saw no mention of this over at Tsume.

About the face thing, yep some of them do come with different faces, each with a different expression. For example the Shanks strong world one has two faces, with and without sunglasses.

But this is from a different company, it does say not final version in one of the pics.
