Love this piece by Oda. Fishman Nami

People are already seriously theorizing Nami really being a Fishman (she's what's inside the big egg on Roger's ship, of course), and of course getting into serious tinfoil hat territory bc Zoro has both eyes open and a red sword. Lol.

It's quite an old gag regarding Nami. It's from ch69 when Luffy was trying to figure out how fishmen looked like. He drew a few examples, before landing on this one:

That same drawing appears as character in Fishman Island arc, in ch626.

Yeah I know, it's fantastic. Franky kinda looks like the shipwright Luffy drew before Water 7, too!

But people are doing the typical OP fandom thing and trying to spin it into a full-blown foreshadowing theory about Nami being of Fishman blood an what have you. It's funny to see how everything is just turned into theory fodder at this point.

My theory about the big egg is that we'll never know what it is and Oda put it in the story just to troll theory crafters. It's just the ultimate tantalizing mystery- the end.

Is it just a gag though?

There's four pictures that Im had a look at. Luffy, Teach, Vivi and Shirahoshi.

The way these generation are set up, there is always some resemblance between the characters. Roger -> Shanks -> Luffy. Shimotsuki Ryuma -> Shimotsuki Ushimaru/Silvers Rayleigh -> Zoro, etc, etc.

Shirahoshi, she looks like Nami. not just that, Nami is the Straw Hat associated with the Fishman plot. She and that fishwoman thing are born on the same day, just like Neptune, the orange-haired King of the Sea.

Shirahoshi's personality, she is timid, unfit to be called a weapon. Nami's personality though?

There's obviously more to that but that is as far as I am willing to go here, just one more thing, I have a high suspect that two certain characters from the present also are just one character from the past. Vivi inherited her hair color from her mother Titi, her father King Cobra has black hair...

Did I mention that Nami's favorite food to cook is duck with tangerine sauce? In Romance Dawn V2, Proto-Nami (Ann), she has blue hair...

I don't think this series needed yet another absentee father. Much less one of the most mysterious main characters who we've all been waiting for information on since chapter 1 to have this crucial backstory in a damn movie.

Every mom is dead, and every dad is completely absent or otherwise abandoned their family. Idc about the setting, it gets tiresome. I was perfectly fine with Shanks just being some dude but now we have to imagine he was yucking it up with Yassop about how fun it is to dump off your family for the great, noble dream of derping around at sea.

They're all cash grabs. I'm more worried about anything in this thing being canon, and even moreso being required watching to understand the plot of the manga. The Shiki movie threaded that needle well- you don't have to know shit about Shiki to enjoy the plot of the manga. When he shows up in Chapter 0 or being name-dropped by Sengoku as part of the Rocks Pirates, or the quick cameo of the Kurozumi hag switching faces to him, it's just a fun cameo. But this? Film Red is either entirely not canon, or has far ranging implications that are needed to understand future stuff in the manga.

As long as Uta doesn't appear or is mentioned in the manga like Shiki, Shanks having a daughter isn't gonna be canon to me. Idc.

Agreed, i would accept him being Makino's baby father, its been pretty much confirmed, and they being somehow close was subtly hinted from chap 1, but that new daughter comes out of nowhere and, idk it somehow ruins Shanks characterization.
I dont like it, even her design doesnt look like what i would expect from a Shanks daughter (its not about appearances but charisma, I would have expected something similar to bellemere or hina). I dont know, she lacks of personality already with her design. She gives me a video game idol or so vibes, she' s definitely not onepiece-ish nor Shank-ish enough. That said, my opinion is based solely on her design and the PV, so ofc, i might be wrong and maybe i will get some nice surprise. But right now, I'm not sold at all.

Shiki was mentioned and shown in the manga, even outside of the "special chapter" setting up the movie. So his character is canon, the movie events aren't.

But unless Uta is mentioned or shown in the manga universe, Shanks doesn't have a daughter in my eyes.

Oda said "that person", implying readers know that person. the only male we got to see her have an affinity with, is Shanks.

If this is the case, this is pretty cool though; the island in the trailer looks like one of the island the slave girl Robin met in Tequila Wolf drew in the anime.

Even though I'm not super interested in the anime, I like how even anime-only locations which we might never see in the manga are connected to other anime-only things we've seen previously.

(She also drew an island made of candy btw, kind of foreshadowing Whole Cake/Totto Land..)

My first thought when I saw the emerald things sticking out was the Emerald City Bellamy mentioned when he listed places that don't exist... but who knows.
