Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

• For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
• Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
• Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
• We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

While absolutely true for Cracker (something I think a lot of people don't acknowledge enough), the ONLY reason he needed help with Doffy was because he was under shonen fight rules of 'holding back' for no apparent reason. If Luffy just started the entire conflict with a King Kong Gun instead of fucking around with everything that wasn't King Kong Gun, he likely would've stomped him immediately. The only real question there is did Law's Gamma Knife do enough damage to make a difference in Doffy's defeat, which I'm going to guess not since Doffy had his jank work-around with his strings.

I don't think we're going to get anywhere. Just as Luffy can KO good ole Mingo with KKG, it doesn't do him any good if Doflamingo simply dodges the attack and/or if it's revealed Luffy has simply been chasing his clone instead. It's also dependent on how much you believe Doflamingo was crippled by Law's attacks, which came within an inch of killing him. For all we know, without Law's intervention KKG would only come close to KOing Doflamingo, similar to how Gear 3 nearly KO'd Rob Lucci.

It's impossible to know though because Oda didn't write it that way, though the author did make it very clear that Doflamingo is a big pain to deal with for just about anybody.

No we aren't arguing that Katakuri can beat Doflamingo, we are arguing that there isn't this gap you proclaim. Because there isn't, we need to get out of this YC ranks bubble, that's so 2017 and is not going to match the content we are going to see.

Doflamingo, Cracker, Katakuri, they were all Gear Fourth enemies, now we are at Gear 5.

If there was no gap, Doflamingo would be able to beat Katakuri, but he stands no chance, he would lose 10 out of 10 fights.

This is literally the same as arguing that Krieg is on the same tier as Crocodile "because Krieg has a big arsenal of weapons and skills" and he "injured Luffy a lot in his fight", and they were "G1 opponents". Luffy had backup for the bulk of the fight and needed Nami to weaken Cracker's army. It wasn't 1on1, but 2o1.

Cracker is weaker than Katakuri, yes, but it's never been stated in the manga that there is a wide gap in strength between all 4 of BM's Sweet Commanders.



You stated Luffy would have solo'd Doflamingo and Cracker if not for the time limit. That's not possible because Luffy isn't strong enough to comfortably defeat either one of them wiithin G4's 10 minute time limit. It's a limitation to Luffy's power, which means Luffy is ultimately weaker than both of them. This is also ignoring the fact that Luffy had backup in both fights, which was pivotal in giving Luffy the opening he needed to take both fighters down.

Yes, Doflamingo and Cracker > Luffy, because of the time limit. I'm not even comparing them to Luffy, but to Katakuri

Doflamingo, Cracker, Katakuri, they were all Gear Fourth enemies, now we are at Gear 5.

You're acting as if Luffy's G4 doesn't improve at all lol. What kind of logic is this?

Doflamingo and Cracker were enemies of a far weaker G4. Katakuri completely demolished that version of G4, and Luffy needed powerups to finally fight Katakuri on equal grounds.
Base Kaido one shot the version of G4 that defeated/stalemated Katakuri. 1040 G4 Luffy was giving hybrid Kaido a tough fight, tanking through many of his attacks

CLEARLY all of these G4 are not the same!!

Katakuri >> Cracker/Doflamingo, because he absolutely destroyed the version of G4 that was above Cracker/Doflamingo

Katakuri 3.5 times stronger than Doflamingo but if you divide by 7 (the amount of Shichibukau) then add the transitive property of the ratio between DF vs pure skill and then we can concure that Yc 1 Katakuri equals Yc3 Doflamingo when you place both along the X axis of any graph that assumes both positive and negative integers as well as imaginary numbers (i) which takes the place of mochi vs string subtracted by the average of both fighters overall combat ability

This display of power scales to the legendary weapons and the Buster Call, all of which are stated to possess the power to annihilate entire islands.

The fight is off screen….Manga only scenes end with A stalemate between Kong Organ vs Cracker & his biscuit soldiers…later it’s picked up with Nami helping him..

It's fairly easy to understand. Everyone in a tier can beat the ones below but loses to the ones above.

I know a lot of people are obsessed with power levels, but I've been pondering for a while now which characters are the most valuable soldiers. Every major faction in the manga fights as armies, not individuals, so various abilities are more invaluable than others. Cracker, for example, has one of the best abilities in the manga because he can produce an infinite supply of soldiers at no cost and is an excellent user of Busoshoku Haki. Said soldiers cannot be poisoned and are resistant to chemical/biological warfare, making him an invaluable fighter against the Beast Pirates (who have both chemical and biological weapons) and against the Blackbeard Pirates (who have chemical weapons).

I posted this list continously here for a while. It is not made up. The basis is the marine ranks, which are based on power. However, I accounted in the fact, that Blue Marines are ranked three ranks below their HQ counterparts in terms of strenght. I also accounted in the rapid succesion promotion of certain characters impliying them to be (sometimes) above their ranks, this pretty much is for the Smoker and Koby groups. Because several characters now ended up in a bracket different from their in-story rank, I renamed the tiers with fitting terms for a general hierarchy.

Next, I looked into the story: Jango is both a Marine and and East Blue Villain! Ranking East Blue villains is easy game, so from there on I could start touching everything. Ranking characters within an organization is easy, ranking the Straw Hats at different times and in comparison to their villains is easy, etc etc.

There is a lot of method behind this, what still isn't in this list is not so easy anymore:

Charlotte Family is loads of work collecting loads of one panel feats and in story hype. But first I need to place Lola, who is from Thriller Bark, which is also loads of work for the same reason. Carrot/Wanda and thus the entire Mink tribe except the elite are dependent on the placement of the Charlottes, thus most aren't placed either, etc, etc.

But I am like 99% done with pre-TB One Piece (Merrry times), so I can do Thriller Bark and then WCI and little bit here and there, done!

Edit: The salt is coming mostly from the wording claiming this to be the most confusing ranking, added with a lol, even though I took great effort to make this as less confusing as it could be for such a large list.
