Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

In my opinion, for a fight to be considered low diff. Someone has to take no damage whatsoever. A fight is only a low diff if it is a flawless victory.

Kaido vs Old WB would be a high diff only if he gets no heart attacks, if he gets a heart attack it would be lower.

WB and Roger are human beings. They aren’t freaks like Kaido and BM, even in their primes I don’t think they were as durable as Kaido/BM. They were superior fighters overall but I don’t think they had their tanking ability.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

They did lol. Luffy was KOed, Killer and Kid were fighting Big Mom somewhere completely else, and Law wasn’t doing anything at the time. And Kaido was in much better shape than Zoro at the time. For a few seconds, Kaido and Zoro had a 1v1. There is no logical reason why Zoro wouldn’t have managed to scar Kaido in a 1v1. If he scarred Kaido when he was being restrained by Kidd and was teleported in front of him by Law or something like that then you would have a point. Zoro scarred Kaido completely by himself.
They didn't. Law had just attacked Kaido and Zoro threw a single attack, that is not a FIGHT, especially in the way you're trying to spin it. In a one on one fight Kaido would be paying full attention to Zoro, he is stomping him. Kaido was more concerned with finishing the unconscious Luffy, Kaido is stomping Zoro.

Kaido reacted but his attention wasn’t on Zoro before Zoro got in his stance.
I disagree. Zoro said “Hey Kaido” to attract Kaido’s attention. Then he gave the one liner, only then he entered into his stance. Kaido’s an experienced fighter. That’s enough time for him to focus his full attention on Zoro.

That’s fine. Agree to disagree having pages on pages of gifs us soon about this isn’t necessary or that important

Someone mentioned in the chapter spoilers thread, regarding Zolo vs King and Queen vs Sanji.
Zolo seems to be having a hard time vs King which is understandable. Yet Sanji seems to be kicking the shit out of Queen without the RS power up, constantly. Sanji has kicked Queen countless times by now, and Queens durability showcases how strong he is, but it is getting annoying by now. My point is, what if King and Queen have a considerable gap in between each other. We know there is a gap YC1 and YC2 but what if its bigger than we think.

Which brings me to another theory, which to me would make more sense on how Kaido knocked out Luffy so easily and now the Yonko are having a hard time fighting the Supernova who should be fodder to them.
So we agreed that Kata shouldve won the fight, he was beating down Luffy 90% of the fight even with Snakeman. Snakeman was cool and fast, but Kata was still able to dodge once he figured it out. So Kata is YC1, Luffy "beats" him then goes to Wano and we all think Luffy is now a YC1. But in reality he is a YC2. So when Kaido OHKO's G4 Luffy at Kuri, this was a Yonko vs YC2. When was the other time we saw that, BM vs Queen. We saw how BM basically knocked out Queen a YC2 with 2 punches, effortlessly.
Then Luffy learns Adv COA and now at the rooftop he is finally a YC1/YC1+. BM did not want to waste time/energy/souls on Marco who is YC1. Further proves YC1s are pretty strong. But Rooftop Luffy is still not strong enough so then he learns Adv CoC and puts up a better fight vs Kaido, he is finally YC1+ but inexperienced with his new haki. Then Yamato fights Kaido and damages him more than any of the SN did (besides Zolo). Yamato is def a YC1+.
Now Kid and Law have finally reached YC1 and are putting up a fight vs BM. Luffy coming back might now be Admiral level because although the splitting sky scene, I dont think Luffy is Kaidos level yet. As weve seen Kaido has taken damaged and is weaker than at the beginning of the raid. Plus Admiral and Yonko level are near each other but Yonko is higher. Also I think it would be ridiculous if Luffy could defeat Kaido 1v1 after Wano Raid. I think after Wano Luffy will still not be able to defeat a fresh Kaido 1v1, just like he wouldnt be able defeat Katakuri right after WCI.

Its a theory of mine, that gives sense on how Kaido OHKO Luffy a "YC1" and then Luffy jumped that huge gap within the same arc to now being able to split skies with Kaido. Luffy's shown us he can jump power gaps, but this is a huge one. Or my other theory is Oda saw the mistake he did of hyping the Yonko waaaaayyyy tooo much and brought them down a level or two by the time of the rooftop fight.

I think it's just a matter of fighting styles. Queen is big and slow, so Sanji landed several hits on him, although so far we haven't seen Queen being seriously injured. King is flying around Zoro at super speed, so Zoro has a hard time ever hitting King once.

Katakuri biggest advantage was his future sight. When Katakuri lost his focus, Luffy overpowered him with Bounce Man. So it makes sense once he learned future sight too, he won the fight.

Since Luffy split the skies, I think it's more likely that Luffy jumped too many power gaps, not that Kaido is weaker than expected.

Imo, Sanji is handling Queen substantially better than Zoro is handling King, and this is even before his genes started acting up. It's eerily similar to their fights in Enies Lobby; Kaku, who was a hair's width stronger than Jabra, was extreme-diff fighting Zoro, whereas Sanji was handling Jabra fairly well even before he started using his Diable Jambe.
Is it that the gap between King and Queen is large, or is it that the gap between Zoro and Sanji is small (if there is one at all)?

It is possible Kata’s physicals are only YC2/3 level but his future sight is what makes him a YC1. In general BM’s commanders seem to focus more on hax than raw power. Even cracker is mainly dangerous because of his biscuit soldiers. Maybe Cracker is a F6 level fighter physically but his armies of High tier minions make him a YC tier in practice. Smoothie also seems pretty haxxed.

Imo, Zoro is handling King substantially better than Luffy is handling Kaido, and this is even before he gets black blade. It's eerily similar to their fights in Alsbasta; Crocodile, who was not massively stronger than Mr. 1, defeated Luffy several times before he barely managed to win with help, whereas Zoro was handling Mr. 1 fairly well even before he understood the breath of all things.
Is it that the gap between Kaido and Kaido is massive, or is it that the gap between Luffy and Zoro is small (if there is one at all)?

I'm a Sanji person, but come on: Kaku had way better technique and was way more threatening than Jab

Says who?

Yeah, I too think a YC1 is a tier above YC2. There seems to be considerable gap.
Luffy was comfortably above Cracker, a YC3, but essentially got stomped by Katakuri before he himself developed advanced observation haki

So, this is what I think is generally the case:
- YC1 can mid-high diff YC2
- YC2 can mid-high diff YC3
- So, YC1 can low diff YC3

Still, I don't think the gap isn't as large as you think it is.
Sanji essentially "lost" to Queen, and it was Germa biology awakening that bailed him out. by healing him up.
And now, Sanji post powerup, seems to be overwhelming Queen.

For Zoro, this "powerup" is yet to happen. Which is why he is pretty much stalemate with King who hasn't used his hybrid form yet (or maybe this is his hybrid form, idk).

So IMO, currently:
Sanji is closest to Zoro he has ever been. Current Sanji can give current Zoro a high-extreme diff fight

When Zoro gets his powerup versus King and the arc gets done, Sanji would give him mid-high diff .

Do you think Jozu might be YC1 tier as well ? Which was why he was able to keep up with Aokiji ?
Like I've always said to you, Whitebeard pirates is a special case, cause WB was said to have the strongest crew. Their respective YCs are a cut above others.

Oda also said in an SBS (Volume 59) that the division commanders of WB pirates were equal in rank, unlike in other Yonko fleet, where division commanders have solid hierarchy and considerable power level difference between them.
Marco really was the 2nd strongest, and hence became captain of WB pirates after WB died. But the gap is close. Marco can't stomp over Vista, like how a typical YC1 would to a typical YC5

Which is why Jozu could put up a decent fight to Aokiji, an admiral. And Vista could fight equally with a casual Mihawk, a Yonko tier.

For Marco, there is really no ambiguity, because Akainu wasn't holding back at all. He was angry and wanted to Kill Luffy, and Marco outright equaled his attack power. And then he has his feats against Kizaru, where both were casual and equaled each other. This is really as close to an admiral (high tier one at that) that we've ever seen a non Yonko tier character be.

Jozu and Vista are borderline YC1 tiers (@XXGenesis yea I've come to this conclusion regarding Vista as well lol)
Marco is borderline admiral tier

It is possible Kata’s physicals are only YC2/3 level but his future sight is what makes him a YC1. In general BM’s commanders seem to focus more on hax than raw power. Smoothie also seems pretty haxxed.
I kinda think the same as well.

BM pirates YC seem to work on the style of avoiding getting hits all together and/or using hax

While beast pirates are all about pure stats. They haven't really shown great haki either, and seems to rely on brute force all together. While Katakuri has advanced observation + conqueror's

Is it that the gap between King and Queen is large, or is it that the gap between Zoro and Sanji is small (if there is one at all)?
IMO, a combination of both.

King seems to be an aggressive fighter relying on speed and strength, while Queen a quirky fighter relying on tankiness and strength. Queen may still have some more new stuff to show.
King should be able to mid-high diff Queen

Also, current Sanji is probably the closest he has ever been to Zoro. He can probably give him a high-extreme diff
But, Zoro will likely get his own powerup/reveal against King, if we're going by the usual pattern. I'd guess, by the end of the arc, Zoro will end up being able to mid-high diff Sanji

There's a reason I specified all males, and also that it's such a common theme in manga in Japan. This kinda stuff is a serious problem over there. Meliodas (7DS) is even given full scenes of just feeling up, peeping, and sexually harassing the female MC. It's a weird place. I met my wife in Japan and we lived on the first floor of a building in Saitama, and they don't typically have dryers for clothes, so we'd hang-dry them on the patio.. except the first day we did that (only place we lived at on the first floor) all her underwear got stolen.

My recommendation to anyone in Japan:
  • Hands up on the trains (butt grabbing is a thing, and you don't wanna be falsely accused... also, don't grab random butts)
  • Don't put ladies underwear out to dry on the first floor
  • Always close your blinds
It's absolutely bizarre. Very sexually repressed culture but simultaneously it's in your face everywhere, always. In a nutshell, the male population in general enjoys the pervy stuff in my experience there.

Jozu and Vista are borderline YC1 tiers (@XXGenesis yea I've come to this conclusion regarding Vista as well lol)
Marco is borderline admiral tier

I kinda think the same as well.

BM pirates YC seem to work on the style of avoiding getting hits all together and/or using hax

While beast pirates are all about pure stats. They haven't really shown great haki either, and seems to rely on brute force all together. While Katakuri has advanced observation + conqueror's

Luffy wasn’t comfortably above cracker at all
Stamina physical strength and DF mastery they were at par , heck luffy spent the fight running and coming back and needed assistance from nami to win
He’s considerably more poweful than cracker in regards to durability that’s it

I thought it was clear splitting the clouds was the effect of CoC clashing?
But how does that prove the admirals don't have CoC?

Luffy again got Knocked Out Twice after that.
I understand you are trying to make sense of the events of the manga & the power scale.

As the latest color page implies all 1st mates; 1st lv Commanders are roughly in the same league. Ignore Beppo lol

Marco IMO is stronger than King; But he’s not strong enough to defeat both King & Queen; But occupy a good amount of their time especially with his DF ability.

Katakuri is no chump; He’s better at FS than Luffy & his DF is better suited to Utilize FS. I’m sure he would defeat Queen in a good fight.

Jozu I can’t put above other YC2 because of how Doffy got him with his puppet ability..

But how does that prove the admirals don't have CoC?
Of the former Admirals we know, only Sengoku has CoC. I don't see any reason to assume the others do.
