Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Acoc being required for top tiers kinda means anyone who wants to be tol tier needs coc. Which means a lot of people will likely get coc on the final saga which is ok.

at the end of story imu is Being taken down and imu might be a god tier fighter. So at some point the power ceiling of roger needs to be surpassed

I don’t get why people say shanks neg dif kid. Sure it was a one shot. But kaido one shot luffy with a pretty basic attack. Shanks likely used his strongest move on Kidd. It was certainly my low-mid dif. But using your strongest attack from the get go isn’t a no dif. Kidd likely would of tanked a normal attack from shanks

A top tier DF can be a reasonable replacement for advanced Conqueror's haki IMO .
While the ceiling is lower off course, they can make you top tier. This is why admirals are top tier, when none of them so far are confirmed to be advanced Conqueror's fighters

Shanks used divine departure, what was likely his equivalent of Kaido's thunder bagua - a strong but signature move that certainly wouldn't be the strongest in their arsenal.
Shanks' one shot is more impressive because Kaido did it against a much weaker Luffy

@grey matter so I think thunder bagua has levels of power and kaido used a low to low to medium level variant of it and his other variants has different levels of power. Where I think divine departure is just always at its strongest. Or close to it. I think being both rogers and shanks special move it kinda is more so a trump card.

Also the bigger question what would divine departure do to kaido or big Mum @grey matter. I wouldn’t be surprised if it does massive damage to either. Obviously prime whitebeard blocks. Oden did tank it which is something. Oden was probably yonko tier and maybe roger wasn’t trying to kill so maybe divine departure does have levels. But I do think even if that’s true shanks was going Near all out he respected Kidd to the point he didn’t hold back. And that’s why I wouldn’t really call it neg to low dif. Like would monkey godfist one shot kaido at full health? Like maybe it did kill kaido by proxy.

Luffy may have been in even worse conditions than Kaido near the end of the fight... so the question would be if Luffy at full health could one shot Kaido at full health

But one shot may be a bit too much, the finisher moves require the enemies to be worn out a bit

It's just regular Haki..........
I know haki trails are debated a lot but so far I do think every time the lighting trail shows up prior to impact it is aCoC. We get lighting streaks with CoA only in the clash itself. If there are any contradictory examples I'll accept it but don't think I've seen any panels with lighting streaks prior to impact that isn't aCoC.

Dude, it was always like that with CoA

What defines ACoC is the size of the lightning

So the fact it punched him down into the lava is something unique, like how does kaido stop the force of the attack from launching him so far down and whilist his haki would be higher in supply could his acoc allow him to survive being submerged in lava. And does the force of impact knock kaido out. Like it’s a pretty dumb attack it has so much force behind it. However it is kaido we’re talking about.

Cladding I would argue is consistently depicted in the manga so far. Conventional armor haki is shown with black energy bursting out in random directions. Conqueror haki is specifically shown as black energy covering the thing where it is applied and sort of leaking out of it, whether it is a fist or a sword.

the way energy comes out of garp's fist during hachinosu is pretty consistent with other times cladding is used. And with koby it's the exact same thing except koby doesn't show as much.

That's definitely a fair argument to make. There is reasonable consistency to claim someone has aCoC but when we as readers are doubtful a character has CoC in general it becomes less reliable. I think that's why Koby has been controversial.

Genere Troupes matter so No. Equal opponents are not using their ultimate move to finish Of their full health opponents with 1hit.

If they are on different levels. However that is discerned. Then yes a 1 hit K.O is possible and not out of the realm of normal for shounen…Plenty of examples of this…Kidd Vs Shanks; Zoro vs Killer; Luffy vs Kaido; Zoro vs Hody; just to name a few

It’s actually semi weird g4 was new only really 1 arc before wano. You had zou into wci, into wano. Yet it’s feels like luffy has had g4 for ages. But really it’s short arc wise between g4 and g5.

G2 and G3 were released in the same arc. They also had the shortest period of time between them both chapter wise and time wise. We had to wait almost a decade between G3 and G4! That was way too much time. Meanwhile we do have a decent chapter gap and 7 year gap between G4 and G5. I think it was a good amount of time, had Oda taken any longer it would have gotten stale (not to mention that Oda kept introducing new modes for G4 to keep things new).

ChapterChapter 388 titled "Gear 2".Chapter 421 titled "Gear 3".Chapter 784 titled "Gear 4".Chapter 1044 titled "Warrior of Liberation".

@DeadlyBeast g2 and g3 were not direct upgrades of each other though they’re like separate modes , g4 and g5 are direct upgrades

I personally disagree. I don't think any gear is an upgrade of another. I think each gear has it's pro/cons which make them all usable depending on the situation. That's why even post G4 Luffy still continues to use G2 and G3. And now even though Luffy has G5 its highly likely he will still use G2, G3, and G4 in his fights. Can you imagine Luffy not using attacks like Jet Pistol, Jet Gattling, or Elephant Gun, Thor Hammer or Kong Gun, Black Mamba for the rest of the story?
