I agree on the threat Vergo was.
Don’t agree he’s that close to Law. With his heart I think Law low diff him with a lot less damage taken. Smoker is somewhat close but isn’t stronger, faster or has better Haki.

Law also didn’t have difficulty with Smoker, he Low diff him. Fighters that are capable will put up an effort but in terms of how many attacks they can land & damage their enemy is how I rate them.

Sanji’s feat’s & performance are what they are during this arc. However PH showings for the SHP weren’t anywhere near their full power.

Sanji during WCI Is his full True PTS performance. Imo showed his stuff even if it was brief & short clashes against Luffy, Bobbin, daifuku, Oven & Raizen. He had hit a limit during that arc at its end & received a power up in his RS.

P1 semantic I’m well over them. Sanji blitz P1 & stealth’d him during their clash. P1 as an Ancient Zoan did well to endure a rather quick 1 sided clash.

With his RS Sanji is on a different lv than Smoker or even Vergo.

PH Sanji imo just isn’t his full power it was WCI. So I compare Sanji up to then vs Smoker. Either way like I said, I believe DJ techniques are stronger than Smoker’s haki punches.

It simply does not fit, so no, I don't believe Sanji beat anyone there. Which doesn't mean Page One is stronger than Sanji either: Sanji was dominating him before the scene was cut, but everything points towards Sanji ending up running away probably because of enemy reinforcements coming in and Page One simply not going down.
.
Thats simply untrue. This is just more of Sanji downplaying than anything. Not "everything" points to sanji running. Only the anime shows Sanji running so if your going to use that as you main argument its completely hypocritical.

We didn't see any reinforcements at all in fact we have 3 things occur.

1. Sanji seemingly finishes off Pages with a diving kick, leaving P1 crying out

2. XDrake continues to look for Sabomask ALONE and runs into Hawkins who is on his own hunt

3. Page1 is next seen being talked down to for failing his mission.

There is not enough there to say Sanji "ran away"

This was always my impression.

The fact it ended on such an implicit note and there was no return to the scene or continuation... that at least suggested to me Sanji won that fight. I don't think Oda needs to elaborate on it much further. It seemed pretty conclusive to me.

This to be fair... actually does make Sanji look bad.

Luffy took Sanji's best shots without defending himself. He didn't defend with CoA.

Luffy came out against Sanji with only losing a tooth. If someone like Jimbei or Katakuri used CoA and his best techniques against a defenceless Luffy... I would be expecting more than the loss of teeth.

I think the real issue is Oda hasn't developed Sanji as much as he has for Luffy and Zoro. Sanji is almost like the Monster Trio, but Buggy. He's almost a comic gag with the way Oda utilises him constantly. Even in this arc, he gets a backhanded compliment. He's shown to have better Observation Haki in terms of sensing presences compared to Luffy, but in the end, he's shown in a rather unserious scenario.

Sanji hasn't looked good since Enies Lobby imo. Things got bad for Sanji ever since Thriller Bark which is when Zoro knocked him out. No idea why Oda has chosen to go down this path with Sanji, but I can only hope he gets better representation.

Even the Raid Suit imo is a disservice... his power-up is a power that comes from the family whom he resents and mistreated him... although, he only got the suit because of acknowledgement. While the suit was given to him because they've acknowledged his power, the fact he needs to use it is like:
  • Coming from a family where your parents think you're a failure. You leave home, go to University, get your degree in a degree they do not even acknowledge, and then start your own business. They openly discredit you and disown you, but then give you $50,000 dollars which you use to improve your business.
The business significantly begins to prosper and do better now. In a sense, these parents that hate you, but gave away this "pity grant" can almost be credited for your business' success.
I have to say, I have utterly hated how Oda has written Sanji and I hope I'm just judging prematurely. Maybe in the end, we'll be satisfied, but at the moment... it's not looking great.
I agree its not good for Sanji, but that wasn't the point. I'm saying its a better CoA feat than we have got from Smoker. Smokers CoA feats lack far more than Sanji's

I would have to disagree for one reason.

Sanji has yet to showcase the Black Haki (Hardened Armament) which Smoker has. He has only showcased the Invisible Armament which is relatively weaker than the Hardened Armament.

At least, talent-wise in CoA development thus far, Smoker's superior whereas Sanji is still developing.

Also, we can't forget that Sanji fractured his leg from clashing against Vergo. Granted, Sanji was already injured to such a degree... even a slap from Nami was impactful enough to cause considerable damage. While it's debatable, it's the shaky ground of Oda's poor representation of Sanji. He hasn't given many scenarios in which we can clearly conclude that Sanji is even superior to Smoker of all people.

The Anime is the only place we've seen Sanji using the Hardened Armament and the Anime does make mistakes here and there. This is just another example of Oda's injustice regarding Sanji. You'd think he'd have already developed it instead of having us debate whether he has it or not.

The only thing I could say Sanji was outstanding in would be Observation Haki compared to Smoker. At the very least, I could confidently presume Sanji's ability to sense presences exceeds that of Smoker's given that we know it's better than Luffy's (who is probably superior to Smoker).

Don't be like that. I win nothing from downplaying Sanji and I have no desire of doing so, and I didn't even mention the anime, so obviously I'm not going to use it as an argument, main or not. What I'm arguing is only what I got from reading the manga, nothing else.

We didn't see any reinforcements at all in fact we have 3 things occur.

1. Sanji seemingly finishes off Pages with a diving kick, leaving P1 crying out

2. XDrake continues to look for Sabomask ALONE and runs into Hawkins who is on his own hunt

There is not enough there to say Sanji "ran away"
Point 1 only points towards the battle continuing between the two. That attack was never meant to be a finisher, and it certainly wasn't stronger than the G4 attacks P1 has now tanked from Luffy, so I'm not buying that P1 went down from that kick.

Point 2 doesn't mean anything. When looking for someone over a large territory they can split.

When does point 3 happen? When he's just perfectly fine in the Tobi Roppo reunion? Sanji escaping is also failing the mission. Sanji's objective when he stayed behind was to injure P1 so much that he wouldn't be there in the final battle, but we know he was there, with not even a bandaid in sight to show us he was recently defeated. Sanji didn't stay behind because just for the sake of it or because he couldn't run away from him, he had a clear objective that we now know he didn't achieve.

You can say there is not enough to say Sanji ran away, but there is also not enough there to say P1 was defeated, which is why I believe Sanji simply ended up running away, going by my reasonings both from this post and the previous one.

And no, this is not to downplay him, because I never said he ran away from P1 due to being weaker than him, I actually went out of my way to tell you otherwise: the most likely outcome for me is that Sanji gave up because of how tanky P1 is. In an ideal scenario with all the time in the world it's likely that Sanji would have defeated him, but P1 is a tank. If Sanji takes too long to take someone like that out in the middle of the city he would have drawn all the unwanted attention he was trying to avoid in the first place, and there'll undoubtedly be enemy reinforcements, so it stands to reason that he would end up running away, not out of fear, nor out of being surpassed nor out of being outclassed but simply to avoid the situation getting even more out of control. I believe Sanji simply underestimated P1's resilience and how fast he could realistically take him down.

And yes, this was the impression I got from the manga long before I learnt it happened in the anime. I was not influenced by it when reaching this conclusion.

The only time the idea that Sanji ran away from the fight only came after the anime was premired.

Up until then the only arguement was that we didn't actually see Page 1 get defeated.

Escaping... running away... fleeing... only came about after the anime.

In the MANGA there is 0 indication that Sanji ran Or gave up in fact there is context to the opposite. As i already noted..

As Sanji is unfamiliar with the endurance and recovery of Ancient Zoans it makes sense that Sanji would think defeating P1 would permanently get him out of the war.

But we already know that the anime team currently doing Wano arc get permission from Oda to add things, even the upcoming Roger vs Whitebeard fight was given the green light to extend the battle by Oda himself, so taking evidence from the anime currently should be concrete proof of the events since Oda himself wanted it to be done so.

That may be true for you.

I only learnt that Sanji had ran away in the anime on this forum, and I wasn't on this forum when that happened.

I thought Sanji ran away from the very beginning, from the manga, so the idea was certainly around before the anime aired.

You can't pick an choose what gets accepted. If your going to use that arguement then Sanji 100% wrecked XDrake without his Raid suit

I don't think having green light to expand fight scenes means everything on them is canon. The anime was expanding scenes way before Oda "gave them green light".

I don't think Sanji humiliated X Drake because that was not what I read on the manga (and because it does not add up to how strong Drake is supposed to be), and I don't think Zoro went supersaiyan on Kamazou either.

It is not just fight scenes though, things that Oda/editors cut from the manga are being put in the anime, and all this is given the go ahead by Oda and his team that is why its important to watch Wano anime.

the anime Sanji just barraged Drake with kicks but in the end they didnt damage him, that is not any different than the manga where Sanji kicked Drake then was swatted away by Drake's tail.
LOL the super saiyan part is just ridiculous but i think its a way to show aura

Well, to sustain my opinion on Sanji vs Page One I've already given points only from the manga and in response I've been basically called a liar for it for some reason, and the worse part is that even if that was a lie (which is not), it wouldn't change any of my points, so I'll leave it at that.

I dont care about X Drake nor did i bring him up WTF, are we not talking about Sanji and Smoker here?
Indeed, and actually, P1 vs Sanji does not change my original claim on the topic no matter how it went:
If this was on Punk Hazard, I personally think Smoker would beat Sanji black and blue given their respective performances against Vergo.

However, with Sanji's growth and his Raid Suit I think it could go the other way now.
To which I also still stand, I have have also given arguments on Smoker's relative strength after re-reading their Punk Hazard fights.

It is not just fight scenes though, things that Oda/editors cut from the manga are being put in the anime, and all this is given the go ahead by Oda and his team that is why its important to watch Wano anime.

:grumble I'm not keen on considering it canon either way. Just entertaining. In the anime Drake looked really overwhelmed by Sanji while in the manga he barely reacted to his kick. It really feels like they aren't exactly given exact scripts on how to expand things from Oda. I don't think they'll drop any important info ont he anime that was omitted in the manga.

What is it Oda said exactly about the anime? Do you have an exact quote?

Anyone who thinks Sanji ran away is missing out on context for sure. It's no different to when Luffy ran from Big Mom or Fujitora.

It's a tactical retreat for the goal, not out of fear.

Sanji either defeated Page One... or did enough damage to make sure Page One couldn't follow as the goal was to stay hidden until the war.

It is not just fight scenes though, things that Oda/editors cut from the manga are being put in the anime, and all this is given the go ahead by Oda and his team that is why its important to watch Wano anime.
I don't think Oda is overly concerned with the Anime. He does however elaborate with the Anime from time to time like the Sabo backstory which Oda stated was canon in an SBS.

Sometimes, the Anime doesn't quite align with the Manga. Extra fight scenes are usually weird in the Anime (e.g. We've never seen Sanji use Hardened Armament in the Manga, but he's done so in the Anime).

I think the Anime can be reliable when it expands on backstories like Sabo's and such, but when it comes to extra fight scenes? I think the Manga is far more reliable and consistent.

There are several errors in the anime, including Wano arc, don't think too much of it.

If I had to guess why the anime team tought Drake could be defeated easily, Drake's new bounty has not been revealed yet, and officially it's still printed as 200 million, so they probably assumed he could be beaten like Killer.

So Pre Wano Sanji......Is at What Power Lv ranking.....Because its not Sanji hate but Oda not giving Sanji substantial wins & fights compared to the other Trio.

Vergo, Doffy, Judge, Yonji, Niji, Bobbin, Oven, Daifuku, Raizen, P1, XDrake......All brief clashes where Sanji is portrayed at disadvantage, has the advantage or indecisive.

Agreed.

Even the Oven clash... Oven was distracted by Pound which made it look like Sanji speed-blitzed him. Oda's just not been very decisive in making Sanji a character free from controversy. I think a lot of it is down to expectation, but falling short from Oda's side compared to Zoro or Luffy.

I just hope with Jimbei on board now, Oda will maintain Sanji as top 3 and be forced to bring up Sanji significantly to make him stand-out. He ought to not be made any weaker than Jimbei at the very least.

Sanji didn't run away from Page One out of fear or self preservation, but their objective (SH Alliance) at the time was to flee. Sanji hit Page One hard enough to get away.

The anime showed Page One was not taken out completely which makes more sense, and I tend to allow these extra bits of information to be released in the anime to form canon as long as it does not conflict with the manga.

Not a fair comparison since Smoker has had barely any appearances, but since you put it that way, I'll ask you exactly what fights has Sanji won since Punk Hazard.
In the appearances he did have, he hasn't been impressive since his first one, and that's because Luffy had no way of dealing with logia users without haki or their weakness. After that, he's not shown anything impressive, and it could be theorized Luffy can beat Smoker easily now. Sanji would have a harder fight, but he's shown enough feats that he would likely beat Smoker.

Which single, actual fights has Sanji had? His skirmish with Doflamingo was short and took place in the sky, but in any scenario Sanji would have lost to Doflamingo anyway, and so did Smoker. Against Sheepshead or someone on Zou, he did beat them. He also beat up his brother or brothers and was forced to stay still and take their beatings for whatever reason (collar or holding a maid hostage? I forgot). Dunno if you' consider that a win though.

And against Page One he did win, at least in his objective. I count this because fighting was involved, and Sanji did manage to at least get Page One away from the citizens and knocked out long enough to get away undetected.

But also, he's rarely had fights after Punk Hazard whereas the last of fighting we saw from Smoker, he was wrecked by Doflamingo.
Sanji is strong, and he has haki to hurt Smoker, but Smoker is strong, has haki too, and is more versatile.
I think it also comes down to whether Sanji can touch or hurt Smoker who's smoked up and spread out, but didn't Doflamingo or someone say that doing that wouldn't keep Smoker safe?

I of course ignore everything that happened pre-TS for this debate.

Luffy would no-diff Smoker in Punk Hazard if he went G4. Now he wouldn't even need it for a low-diff. But I question Sanji's feats.

Which single, actual fights has Sanji had? His skirmish with Doflamingo was short and took place in the sky, but in any scenario Sanji would have lost to Doflamingo anyway, and so did Smoker. I could question that Sanji cleared his objective because he also voiced an additional one that he certainly didn't achieve in that fight (taking down an enemy officer to lower their forces before the big war), but Sanji wore his Raid Suit for that fight so it's pointless talking about it when my positioning on this topic, that spawned this conversation, is this:
If this was on Punk Hazard, I personally think Smoker would beat Sanji black and blue given their respective performances against Vergo.

However, with Sanji's growth and his Raid Suit I think it could go the other way now.
Sanji is very likely stronger than P1, perhaps even without his RS (though it would be a harder fight) but if we are talking about actual victories (a criteria that you brought up) Sanji has only really defeated one of his brothers, Yonji, and we don't know where that guy ranks as he seems to be the weakest of the siblings.

Smoker was beaten by Law, Vergo and Doflamingo, and it's true that it isn't a great track record, but Law was defeated by 2 of the same guys in the same arc and it's pretty clear he would have lost to Law too, so since we can't compare victories, we must compare how each of them fought with the same opponents.

I think it also comes down to whether Sanji can touch or hurt Smoker who's smoked up and spread out, but didn't Doflamingo or someone say that doing that wouldn't keep Smoker safe?
To be more accurate, Vergo told him that he shouldn't keep turning into smoke and expanding because he was just becoming a larger target, yes, but that lacks context.

Smoker vs Vergo and Sanji vs Vergo are the only fights we can use to compare them as they were then, since Doflamingo vs Smoker was omitted but it seemed to be just as much an instant-defeat as Doflamingo vs Sanji.

I already made a post or two with this info but I'll expand on it with pictures as food for thought.

Sanji vs Vergo
The fight starts with Sanji blitzing Vergo with Diable Jambe.

Diable Jambe was Sanji's strongest form: attacking with flaming kicks. That kick to an unsuspecting Vergo achieved slight bleeding from the mouth and nose:

This was followed by an even stronger attack from Sanji. While still using Diable Jambe, this time he used a named attack:

What did he achieve with this? A very slight bruise on Vergo's face and no new blood:

This is explained by Sanji: Vergo used tekkai to block that second kick. The bruise on his cheek was just like the bruises on Jyabura when he took Diable Jambe with his tekkai. Just marks of burning rather than direct damage. However, in Jyabura's case, the pain from Diable Jambe's fire made him relax his tekkai and take the full might of Sanji's kicks, while Vergo properly tanked it and took zero damage from Sanji's kick:

Then it was Vergo's turn to attack. He rushed at Sanji and kicked him. Sanji blocked it with his usual blocking stance but he failed and his leg cracked:

Some people argue that the fight continued afterwards "and so Sanji's fracture doesn't mean much", but that's not entirely true. Sanji was still moving around enough to dodge and block some fast kicks, but it was a single page after the crack that Vergo was interrupted and had to run to Law, so Sanji only fought for a single page after the crack:

And to further emphasize how badly Sanji was hurt after mere moments of fighting, Oda added this scene:

Sanji's leg cracking can be explained by how hurt his body supposedly already was, but he still failed to surpass Vergo's tekkai with his diable jambe, and there's no reason to believe Sanji didn't use his haki in those attacks.

Smoker vs Vergo
If we look into Smoker vs Vergo, the fight consisted of two parts separated by scenes that took place elsewhere.

The first half of the fight started with Vergo immediately getting more serious than he ever got with Sanji, despite experiencing Sanji's strongest kicks from the get-go:

Vergo immediately taking out his bamboo stick is a big deal, because he's known as "Demon Bamboo" Vergo; his bamboo stick is as characteristic of him as the straw hat is to Luffy. He didn't choose to take it out against Sanji despite that fight starting with him getting kicked straight to the face twice with Diable Jambe, but he chose to take it out the moment Smoker charged at him. This was not because of Smoker's jutte, because:
- Vergo is not a Devil Fruit user, so he would have no big problems touching it.
- Vergo is more than strong enough to block haki-coated bladed weapons if the attacker's haki isn't strong enough:

For the rest of the first half of the fight, Smoker was portrayed as pretty equal to Vergo, yet slightly dominating him:

- Smoker succesfully dodged his attacks multiple times with his powers, which also provides him with superhuman mobility and shows that he can use his DF for defensive purposes against haki users.

- He succesfully blocked Vergo's kick with his leg, which can be used as a direct parallel with Sanji failing at doing that.

- He succesfully punched Vergo right in the face with more success than Sanji kicking him twice with Diable Jambe. With a single hit he got Vergo bleeding from the place he was punched at, and shaking a bit when getting up, which is used to showcase he failed at using tekkai to block Smoker's fist the way he previously did against Sanji's Diable Jambe.

Then some other scenes happened and we jumpe to the second half of the fight.

Smoker's portrayal suddenly changed a lot out of nowhere, but that's explained later.

Vergo was still bleeding but so was Smoker now. Smoker was suddenly having trouble keeping up with him, yet he was still getting hits in and adding bruises to Vergo's face:

This is when Vergo told him what you mentioned and immediately defeated Smoker with a single all-out blow:

However, this lacks context, because Vergo was being played and it was explained a single page later:

Vergo didn't notice Smoker was "becoming smoke and expanding" to steal from him and he didn't even notice his intentions. As we can see in the pic I just posted, Smoker not only stole the heart; he even got it over to Law without Vergo noticing. He did so with the attacks from the previous pic that seemingly "missed" Vergo, which means Vergo defeated Smoker with a full-powered blow just at the moment Smoker was more preoccupied with sending the heart back to Law than with actually fighting him, after he flawlessly stole something from his clothes mid-fight.

The only thing Vergo noticed of this all is that Smoker wasn't fighting as usual:
This makes more obvious that:
- Vergo was outsmarted.
- Smoker accumulated damage and was brought down because he was not actually focused on fighting.
- Smoker doesn't usually just "become a larger target" and is not usually that easy to deal with him just by using haki.
We only need to look at other logia users to see that there are many ways to use their powers for attack without turning into their elements, and even when defending, they have ways to use them to move around or to dodge with CoO. In this very fight Smoker showed he's able to use it for dodging and mobility without needlessly expanding and without getting hit.

Vergo didn't use full-boy hardening against Smoker nor Sanji so it can be argued that he didn't go entirely all-out on neither of them, but he certainly took Smoker more seriously despite experiencing Sanji's strongest kicks first-hand.

So I'll say it again: if we compare what Smoker and Sanji showed at Punk Hazard, Sanji is outclassed and would lose to Smoker. Even if we make excuses for Sanji's durability and we focus instead of their attack power, Smoker blows were objectively more powerful than Sanji's when hitting the same target.

It can also be argued that current Sanji vs PH Smoker would have a different result, but that's not fair on Smoker nor what I was discussing.

To be fair, Smoker only changed tactics because Vergo was stronger.

If Smoker could have defeated Vergo and simply returned the heart, he'd have done so as he wouldn't want to be indebted to pirates in any shape or form. He realised he was outmatched and simply opted to do the best he could which was acquire the heart back and give it to Law who'd finish it.

Smoker wouldn't want to be indebted to a Pirate.

That aside, the very fact Smoker has Hardening and Sanji doesn't makes Smoker naturally the superior. More so, Vergo fractured his knee without even using Hardening, however, Sanji was injured prior, but it still doesn't look good given that if we even wanted to give Sanji the benefit of the doubt for having hardening... he's never used it in situations that it was undoubtedly useful to avoid death or fatal injuries.

Overall, Smoker is portrayed as being superior. Sanji has been portrayed as weak since the time-skip to bluntly put it.
