I think some people are also annoyed by many costume changes that Lightning has and felt like it was almost like a dress-up game for her.

I suspect it wouldn't do well at all. Most likely people will skip this one and just wait for XV
I'm going to be very interested to see how Final Fantasy XV does. The lean toward action/rpg mechanics could cost them big time.

Yeah, it's a funny thing. That seems like a turnoff for people that really like her character and for people that don't...well they're probably not going to buying a game about her. Which sorta puts the game in a no win situation.

On a more positive note, it appears like the fan translation of FF Type-0 will be done in 3-4 weeks!

I have no objection when it comes to the action/rpg mechanics. Even though I didn't like it very much at first, Crisis Core's mechanics were pretty decent. FFXII is still an awesome game to play, though that's still sort of turn based in a way. FFV just looks really fluid and exciting, and as much as I would love an old school turn based FF game, sadly XV's action/rpg style is what most gamers these days want. I just hope the story and characters are good enough to keep one's interest and it has enough content.

I'm ok with it, though their track record with action RPG's isn't exactly wonderful. I fear for their it's sales a bit due to the decision to make it a Final Fantasy title. But I'm also inclined to give it a chance; as long as they don't make it a linear battle slog.

I know a lot of my friends aren't even giving it that much of a chance.

The ones that like action RPG's, and not JRPG's, take one look at the Final Fantasy name and say "No" and the ones that that like JRPG's take one look at the action gameplay and are also like "No" followed by "When does Kingdom Hearts III come out?". In fact, I don't personally know anyone besides myself that is even even seems likely to give it a chance and that's a disturbing sign to me.

It's just an X-2 with an even terrible story - if that was even possible. They have shoved her down our throats more than Viagra internet ads.

For anybody who might be interested in how Lightning Return's sales are doing.

They are not great so far. If the pattern in Japan holds true for the global sales, Lightning Returns is headed for about half the sales of it's predecessor Final Fantasy XIII-2, and less than one quarter that of Final Fantasy XIII.
This was largely expected as - you showed as well - the sales literally plummeted for the second outing. Whoever thought this game could or was going to do well was clearly being delusional.

I'm guessing the production of the game was astronomically cheaper as well.

They're definitely going to use the same technology for newer games, but I'm guessing it'd have cost more with the music and story etc... ALl in all, it's at least good news for us, right?

Who knows, but if one recalls they cut out a large portion from XIII - according to some websites, enough to make 1.5 games, I kid you not. I am guessing it's rearing its ugly head the second time in shape of Lightening Returns.

I thought they have made a new engine? I could be mistaken though. To tell you the truth, I am not too optimistic about XV even. I have been following it since it was first announced way back and the way the game play mechanics are now - thy look clunky and poor compared to the last E3 trailer which was in 2010 if I remember correctly. They have a lot to redeem for.

Not only that, maths tells me that PS4 has 50% more computational juice and we would get the same watered down mess as it's multi-platform and according to SE, they have made a ceiling ...

Ok, I just finished everything worth doing in FFVII including beating the ruby and emeral weapon. Honestly, neither was as hard as they made it out to be but it was still fun. My only question now (other than the few loose ends left in the plot by the game that are by no means explained or addressed by advent children) is:

Well, it was hard if you didn't use a walkthrough at first. Honestly, who would ever beat Ruby without a walkthrough? lol What do you think of the game overall?

I loved the game. During the first part I was kinda disappointed but once I got the hang of materia combinations I loved it. So much stuff you can do. My only issue with the game is that you don't really need complex materia combinations to actually win. The way the game is made even simple use of materia is enough to get through most if not all enemies. So cool materia combinations would essentially be overkill. I have played all the PS FF games and they are all basically like that though, specially if you level up (except to some extent FFVIII where boss's strength was according to your level). Its a bit unfortunate most RPGs don't have an alternative to play a harder version of the game after you beat it on the first round. Imagine a FFVIII where actually going through the trouble of getting everything didn't result in the game being too easy lol(not the same kind of game but I loved the hero quest in skyward sword).

You are kinda right about ruby though... I did use a guide to see what the hell was going on when my two party members just disappeared. I just went with the daser trick and it was all too easy at the second attempt lol. Even then, I don't think it necessarily would have been extremely hard to win with just cloud. Putting a little more thought into it I don't think it would have been all that difficult to beat it. Emerald was actually easy though. Gravity attacks are not really a threat if you heal fast and its defense is not that high so even 4x materia did 40k damage every round (I kinda had 1 for each character at that point). I had cloud equipped with several counter materia, enemy skill and KOTR, even if that wasn't enough I could have just given him more counter materia and he would have attacked 10 times in between turns lol.

From what I gathered what you need a guide for in the game is not to actually beat bosses but rather to deal with the sheer amount of random. Many of the side quests are located randomly and so far out the progression of the game that I don't see how it would be possible to even find them if you went about it on your own. I got the gold chocobo but the game barely made a mention on how to get it, I still don't know how exactly you find out how to breed them to get the stuff you want. And even using a guide still you still need an offensive amount of time and money to breed a chocobo. If it wasn't for the selling of mastered all materia I would still be going at it without any sort of direction. I guess the chocobo sage is the one that is supposed to hint at how to breed chocobo although I never took the time to figure that out. And of course without a guide you wouldn't even have a reason to even breed chocobo and without one you wouldn't even know what you can get with them. Well, with my experience in other games I was able to tell on sight which locations were only accessible by chocobo however its not like you'd have a reason to go there if chocobo breeding was not to begin with an important part of the game. And chocobo racing sucks balls, I hated every bit of it, specially that damned black chocobo. I guess my biggest complain about the game (and all FF games I have played so far) is that the developers try to pass completely random things as if they were puzzles. Backtracking 3 continents just for the random chance of probably finding a side quest which might do something is not a puzzle (DAMN IT!). I love exploring the worlds developers make but to some extent the idea is taken a tad far with FF games (and that comes from someone that has beaten console zelda games an offensive number of times lol). Once you have the stronger materia in the game there is no reason for any of the bosses in the game to be much of a challenge (although I still kinda get the impression that the strongest materia combo would be phoenix-final attack, a bunch of counters and KOTR paired with a number of things). Counter as many times as you can fit the materia in along with the strongest materia in the game along with a couple mean heals from a healing amteria or enemy skills.

Your definitely right about the difficulty being pretty easy when you have everything built up. That being said I always thought it was pretty cool the way magic in Final Fantasy is just so damn powerful.

One Bolt3 with an All materia attached is pretty much devastating at all levels. Same deal for the enemy skills, when you learn enough of them. So the strategy tended to be more about balancing mana usage so you don't run out of ethers before you hit the next boss. As long as you did that you could pretty much smite everything in your path.

FFVIII isn't like that, and I think I liked the game less for it.

If you fight them without level grinding or using faqs or strategy guides they are tough

ozma from 9 and omega from 8 are harder though

I think a guide was almost a necessity to even be strong in 8. I remember being really high level at an early stage in the game, but levels didn't matter when I decided to explore an island and the monsters were killing me pretty easily. To me 8 was a bit confusing...still not sure how to play that game properly :XD

My only problem with 7 was the difficulty..it was way too easy. Even without doing most of the sidequests you could run through the game pretty easily.

Final Fantasy VIII, if I remember correctly, was the first game I ever played that had enemies that leveled with you but it was wierd in that it was only about every 5-7 levels. So at level 30 things might be easy, then at level 31 things would suddenly become hard. And since your stuck with gear at a certain level over leveling turns into a really bad idea. So it flipped Final Fantasy VII's system on it's head. Where, instead of rewarding leveling, it punishes you for it.

Which is was a problem for me since if you leveled enough you could unlock all kinds of cool abilities with various summons. Which was the thing I remember loving about VIII the most, the summons. It's summon system was easily my favorite of all the final fantasy games. It's a pity the "draw magic" system sucked so hard. Having you draw all your magic from monsters a few uses at a time was just annoying.

That's how I feel about the new XV trailer too. All in all I can call myself no longer a fan of any FF game beyond 12 (which was a fun experience on its own, really, except for the story).

I have more hopes in Bravely Default, the real Final Fantasy series from SE.

When Type-0 gets translated I'll try that as well and see how fun that is as well though, since people fangasm about it all the time.

Agreed. They have a lot to redeem and atone for in XV. I find Tales series to be much more interesting, honestly. SE and Capcom have been so poor lately.

honestly 12 was ok but the summons SUCKED horribly

honestly i didnt care for 12's combat system or gambit system

FFX was the last great FF game, i am hoping 15 really does something to change that

13 was ok.... but i didnt care for the character design or the story in general ....
