Found this on the PS4.... if this is the case then it wouldn't really be significantly different from what xbox one is currently doing The difference would be the way each one chose to present their information. Xbox1 was more upfront on the matter while sony conveniently washed their hands of the issue and dumping it on someone else, the developers. The only real deal breaker with the xbox1 in comparison to the PS4 would in this case be the connection and perhaps a couple other things which overall are not too serious (at least IMO). Any thoughts?

So.... I guess we have to pick the one telling us upfront they are assholes or the guys who are being covert about it.... in the end they are both assholes though.
This is no news really...it's always been up to the publishers to put DRM or not. Sony has no say in what third party publishers want to do with their games when it comes to DRM. Xbox is the same I believe, but what Microsoft is doing is wanting the publishers to get some kind of profit from used games sales, which is a problem since it's up to the consumer who bought the game to do what they want with it. Why should they get more money from one copy of a game? I believe Sony has no plans to block first party used games.. it's all up to the others to do what they wish.

Exactly, if publishers wanted, they could probably set up their own DRM measures to block used games on the PS3, but the amount of backlash would be massive. There will probably be some sort of backlash if they implement it on X1 but since MS has taken it upon themselves to introduce architectural DRM measures, they will share some of the blame too.

Really hope this doesn't mean that remote play will require a separate subscription to use.

Dang, how desperate is Microsoft? According to some reports, they sent some representatives to Nintendo event at selected Best Buy stores during E3 and bashed the Wii U.

All of a sudden the Wii U seems great. Sony and especially Microsoft aren't doing gamers a favor.

For me the Wii U would be the best to get. Especially since we only got one t.v. The exclusives they have and are about to have, are great for everyone(X looks amazing :o) and even the third party games, even if there aren't many yet. Having to pay to play multiplayer on both PS4 and Xbox is a kind of deal breaker for me...I rather just buy the game once and not have to pay to play online monthly. People complain about lack of online multiplayer on Nintendo systems, but I find local multiplayer much more entertaining and fun. Of course online has it's advantages, but local multiplay is just way more awesome.

My thoughts exactly. That's what gaming is about for me. Meet with your friends and have a fun match or engulf yourself in a completely different world. What Microsoft and Sony are doing is totally against that.

I'm curious what Sony's doing that has you lumping them in with Microsoft?

The only move I know of that seems like it has any negative connotations to is the pay for Online multiplayer thing. Which is a shame but I understand the nececity in order to offset all the costs of the online infrastructure. And to be honest it doesn't effect me much since I'm a PSPlus subscriber anyway. It's pays for itself so many times over that I feel like wrapping multiplayer into it is practically doing people a favor. Sony just showers you in free games all year long.

This month alone I've gotten (for free with my subscription)

  • Uncharted 3
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown
  • Saints Row: The Third
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • LittleBigPlanet Karting
  • Machinarium
  • Orc Attack
  • Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
  • Gods Eater Burst

And that's just June. So, while paying for most multiplayer is unfortunate, trust me PS Plus is pretty great.

--------------------

Also I guess some free to play games won't be requiring a PS Plus subscription for online play.

  • DC Universe Online
  • Planetside 2
  • Warframe
  • Blacklight: Retribution

So there will be some decent non-psplus mutiplayer options.

Aww....damn would have loved to see them crash and burn :XD
Seems even they weren't stupid enough to see this disaster through. X1 has just become a much more competitive console. Still PS4 for me though :p

I think PS4 will still out sell it...unless they drop the price too lol

Definitely has, there will be plenty of people who will still think that it doesn't allow used games because of the massive publicity.

Yeah, the used games and online check-in thing were a couple of the things holding the X1 back. There is still the fact that Kinect is a requirement, and you are paying more for inferior hardware. Doubt these two points can be addressed unless if they delay the release date considerably.

Smart move for Microsoft.

While I do think damage was done to the Xbox brand I think it's good for gaming as a whole that they fully backtracked on Xbox One's used game and Internet connection requirements. They are going to have enough trouble dealing with the $100 dollar price difference and this should make things a lot more competitive.

Hopefully this will also serve as a lesson in what not to do game system developers will remember for hardware generations to come.

Microsoft said that there will have to be a one-day patch for the change though.

I believe such a 180°direction change never happened like that before. There are still reworking the DRM part so we'll see more news about that soon I believe.

Uhm, Microsoft has actually backtracked on the price too. It's going to sell for roughly the same price as PS4.

Microsoft's marketing department should be fully replaced. I alone would have done a better job at properly protecting the brand and making the correct marketing choices.
