The new Assassin's Creed game looked fantastic to me. I gave up on the franchise many games ago but this one excites me in a big way.

Specifically that it's set in Greece and Sparta and that it's much more of an RPG than any previous game. With full on branching dialogue and romance options. It's funny because it seems like Bioware has been copying Assassin's Creed style open world games for a while now. Yet Ubisoft seems like they are copying the Witcher with this new game. A Witcher 3 style Assassin's Creed game? Hell yes!!! I'll play the crap out of that.
Assassin's Creed franchise has always been struggling to find its own identity since Black Flag, I think. But I'd say Origins look fantastic and despite the fact that it is seemingly an odd direction for Ubisoft, it worked pretty well for them. I have yet to play Origins but from what I've seen the game is pretty promising - I need to play that before Odyssey comes out.

.... yeah, I guess all of the accounts of people who saw it at E3 behind doors weren't exaggerations :oh

I want this so bad. That looks even better than I expected it too, honestly.

Yeah, saw this earlier.

It looks pretty awesome - except for a few things
Number 1 being showing fucking damage numbers... for a game which is all about immersion, why the hell did they decide to pull a bullshitty arcadey thing like that?!?

I really hope you can turn it off
:notrust

I think it might make sense after Vi gets that scanner eye implant, but beforehand it's a bit weird perhaps. Especially since she doesn't see ammo on her HUD until after that.

On the one hand I don't want them to compromise on making it TPP (I have no idea why so many people are crying about it), but I guess making things so you can toggle them on and off would be for the best. A game that stresses this much immersion would have to have an option to get rid of most of the HUD stuff, a la Metro, no?

You can. They already said that. The HUD is fully customizable as you would expect from a cyberpunk themed game.

Though I love damage numbers. It's an RPG after all.

I kind of doubt they will. It's clearly designed for first person. People on the internet will whine about anything but I feel like once people get their hands on it they will remember that Skyrim and Fallout were both first person.

Yeah, even not particularly fond of the scanner showing 'weaknesses' or 'resistances' - but at least I see that it can be optional (though missing the ammo count may prove a mistake, I might well sabotage myself on my first run, just cause I feel it might be more fun without the scanner.

I wonder if they decided to release this footage now, rather than later, just to take some of the heat off/distract from this tweet bullshit.

I bet they don't really care about the tweet.

This has probably been planned for a while. It seems to me like it was probably timed after the last electronics show they were doing with that demo. Gamescom or Pax or whatever. The reality is that, aside from the constantly outraged section of the internet, most don't really care what developers say or do. Most people just want a cool game. I've beaten Witcher 3 four times. It's in my top 3 favorite games of all time. And I know a lot of people who view that game similarly.

When it gets down to people are interested in the games. Everything beyond that just doesn't matter, IMO.

Sure, but Skyrim and Fallout are also fully playable in third person too.

There's still a shitload of people complaining on that video's comments. Some even stating that FPP was ruining "muh immersion", which is nonsensical to me... given why they chose FPP in the first place. But it could be that not having both camera modes would save development time, since having TPP camera mode might require a lot of extra animation work. And given how detailed this game is in every aspect, it could delay it a year or two :lmao

I don't really sympathize with people who simply prefer TPP so they can see their character or whatever, but I do think it would be nice for people who suffer from motion sickness and/or have issues with depth perception in these games and tweaking the FOV isn't always a solution in their cases.

I saw that speculation elsewhere but I don't really buy into it. I actually expected that we'd see the demo they showed at E3 at Gamescom, since by all accounts it was something worth showing. The E3 demo was live gameplay too, not just a trailer. So it was only a matter of a time, and Gamescom seemed like the best option before the end of the year.

Because FoRtNiTE

Seriously though I live for highly polished single player titles like these. Looking forward to seeing CDPR flexing again because what they do is actually phenomenal.

I really think that's just internet whining. Sure, Skyrim and Fallout do have that 3rd person mode but that is pretty clunky. And it's there for a gameplay reason. It's there for melee builds. That's where 3rd person is actually useful. In every other build it plays like ass.

I don't sympathize with people who want a 3rd person mode because they haven't even played the game yet. I suspect that fans are getting caught up in Witcher nostalgia and want this to be like that. But Cyberpunk is a completely different game. Like if this was a 1st person Witcher game then I'd sympathize. But this isn't that. How can you expect something to be a certain way when it's an original? As a criticism it doesn't even make sense.

Of course, neither game feels "right" to me in third person, melee or not.

Well yeah, I imagine they assumed it would be TPP due to the Witcher series as well. But I do think having an option is a good decision as far as accessibility goes, even if it breaks their "vision" for the game. Being able to customize the HUD also falls under the same category IMO, the main difference would be the man hours required to implement TPP.

3rd person in Skyrim is an absolute joke.
The game, combat system included, was built with 1st person in mind. It was not meant to be played in 3rd person and that is clearly evident by how much of an afterthought 3rd person feels like.

However, I do tend to agree that hand-to-hand combat works better in a 3rd person setting (not in Skyrim, but in general). It's certainly far easier to make a competent, complex, enjoyable, combat system. Driving also tends to be better (though flying is FAR superior in 1st person).

This game, however, is a futuristic game. It isn't like the Witcher, it isn't about swords and sorcery. It isn't a game which is predominantly about hand-to-hand combat.

Not once have I come across a game where shooting has been better in a 3rd person perspective, than a 1st person one.
Even games which I play predominantly in 3rd person, VTMB being a prime example, I always switch to 1st person for firing guns [given the choice].

Now, I can see how people might prefer the play style of a 3rd person game; I am not one of those people, but I do get it.

As for the idea of 3rd person being more immersive?
I can not even begin to comprehend how they could actually ever believe this and can only assume that they either don't know what immersive means, they have not played many 1st person games (so can't picture what games are like to play in a 1st person perspective), or they are just looking for criticisms as they wanted to play a 3rd person game (and so, stupidly, brought up immersion as an arguing point).

... or, perhaps, they spend their whole life looking at the world through a VR headset, with a drone following them around (so, to them, the idea of seeing their own back is a common occurrence)...
I guess that is also a possibility.

From the demo we do have mostly shooter gameplay, but it's worth noting that it seems the combat system will be more in-depth than this. Apparently you'll be able to augment your body in a way that sees you bouncing off walls, changing directions midair, with a lot of melee and stealth options as well. So the argument could be made that TPP could serve that kind of gameplay better.

But enough about me playing the devil's advocate honestly, as I was actually pleasantly surprised when I heard it was FPP at E3. The classic FPP vs TPP argument usually has me coming out on the FPP side, especially when it comes to competitive multiplayer games. The argument is a bit different when we're talking about pure singleplayer experiences as I think that has more to do with personal taste, but I've never been one who has to see how my character looks and behaves, etc.

Well, that sort of came out of nowhere, huh? The Wofl Among Us 2 had just been greenlit too...

That's sad but not surprising. They've been suffering layoffs for the last year. Telltale was such a huge deal back during the first season of Walking Dead and Tales from the Borderlands(Which is still my favorite of their games) But in recent years it seemed like they really mismanaged or misjudged some important things. Their engine in particular was outdated and broken and they never fixed it. Then they kept signing on to make huge numbers of licensed games and just never took the next step.

It's strange because they sort of reinvented a whole genre of narrative games and put that interactive story type game on the map but Supermassive Games(Until Dawn) and Quantic Dream (Detriot) got so far beyond them in quality.

I always kind of hoped they would catch up, fix their engine, and refine their approach. But I guess it's not meant to be.:(

Yes, I'm thrilled to play it in 10 years when it's remastered and put on PC!

I mean, I have a Switch now but that isn't any more reasonable of a choice. :lmao Still don't understand why fans put up with such anti-consumer stuff as third party exclusives. Granted, there's a lot less of them now, sure. But meh.

It's super weird that the original Red Dead Redemption was never put on PC but I feel pretty confident this one will be. Pretty sure they are just waiting 6 months or so for when everybody bought it on console. Then they can announce it and sell millions of people like me a second copy.

That's what they did with GTA.

I mean, RDR has never been an exclusive to anything. Xbox and PlayStation both get it.

Yeah but it took a console re-release on the current-gen before PC got a port of GTAV. So consoles have always been Rockstar's priority, and for some reason RDR being the exception as far as not being truly multi-platform doesn't give me much hope. Unless you count PSNow on PC, but I've heard bad things about it honestly and it still doesn't really count IMO since you can't own the games.
