Yeah but it took a console re-release on the current-gen before PC got a port of GTAV. So consoles have always been Rockstar's priority, and for some reason RDR being the exception as far as not being truly multi-platform doesn't give me much hope. Unless you count PSNow on PC, but I've heard bad things about it honestly and it still doesn't really count IMO since you can't own the games.
I'd be truly shocked if it didn't come to PC.

GTA 4 released on PC with like a 6 month delay. GTA 5 was a little of a year later, I think, and sold 12ish million copies on steam.

If I was a betting man I'd say this is part of some PR rollout plan somebody thought up. The game launches in October. The online mode launches in November. Then after they are sure the majority of console sales have happened the PC release announcement so they can double dip on sales. Probably a version of undead nightmare next fall.

If you don't already have it, Destiny 2 is free on Battle.net until the 18th.

Is it really that little? I imagine the experience would still be gimped without any expansions.... but 10% ? :notlikethis

No wonder they're making it free, free publicity.

Activision at its finest ladies and gentlemen. The base game encompases a bit more than that but it's certainly only giving you half the story. Free DLC is something still very foreign to these folks.

"Free".
You would still have to pay for PS Plus or Xbox live. That is simply a no go. They can keep their loot boxes and DLC stuff.
Sadly the fanboys are dumb and support this kind of gamer milking.

It's completely free on PC though

#PCMasterRace :kappa

I've played it a bit, probably level 7 or 8. I guess it's fun, but who knows how much has been added to it with these DLCs honestly. Thinking back, I think people liked the leveling but ran out of things to do at max level.

Well. That game is built on selling stuff like that. An AAA game on the other hand...
That's very true. It's completely gross the way games like Destiny 2 have been overmonitized and built around doing that. But, speaking for myself here, there is a lot of hypocrisy about where I am, and am not, outraged by that.

Like, I don't tend to play AAA games as services but when it comes down to the real reasons why it's not because they are exploitative. FGO is exploitative as hell but I still love it. The reality for me is that adopting that particular money making strategy gives games some of the same tendency's. The unreasonable gindiness to incentivize spending. The multiplayer focus to promote an MMO mentality. The work in progress nature of the gameplay systems.

Yet I'm a longtime Warframe PC player (822 hours played and counting). Granted Warframe is free and more generous than any current AAA game as a service game but it does share those characteristics.

It makes me wonder if the reason I look down on those kind AAA games doesn't have as much to do with their monitization as it does that I already have mine and there is really only room for one of those in my gaming life and that slot was filled for me before this micro transaction craze even started. So when I see one of these Destiny style games come out they have no appeal.

The games that interest me are like Dragon Quest or God of War or RDR2. Games that have an ending. Those are the gaming experiences I crave. Like I'm a huge Bioware RPG fan. Could not give less of a shit about Anthem.

"It just works" :4head

This is sort of what Bethesda is known for though, their IPs are amazing, but they make one good game and then make 7 different versions of it. With a passable engine and people who actually know how to make online multiplayer games, Fallout 76 could be so good. But right now it's an unfinished, bug-riddled mess on a decade+-old engine with the gunplay of an N64 game.

And the whole excuse of their being no NPCs because players are supposed to fill out the world? That's just nonsense they farted out to release the game much earlier than it should have been.

I just think Bethesda's team skill set is suited to one kind of game and only that kind of game. And 76 just exposes all the things they can't do well at all.

Single player games with a flexible interactive world. That's what they do and I love them for it.

That said they are terrible at bug fixing and bug testing and are sloppy to the point of near incompetence. As anybody who has ever modded one of their games can attest, the make mistakes they are hard to even comprehend when you dig into how their games are put together. Typically they release buggy mess of a game then modders go through and fix what they can but with an online multiplayer game that's not happening. They have to fix it themselves and I honestly don't think they've ever done that before.

They never fixed Fallout 3, Skyrim, or Fallout 4. Without the unofficial patches those games are still a buggy poorly optimized mess.

fallout 4 was still enjoyable but on 76 they truly outdid themselves. the game litteraly look like it needed one more year of development, dunnot why the rush. I heard the first patch of Fallout 76 is 47GB :lmao anyway i'm a huge Fallout fan but i'll pass on that one

There's more than likely going to be more added to it if it keeps a decent playerbase, so it might be worthwhile at some point. Just not at full AAA prices... If you take all of the voice acting out of it, I've seen Early Access games on Steam with more to do.

It's possible but I doubt they will.

To me this has all the hallmarks of a live service project the publishing arm of Bethesda pushed and so they put a small team on, while the bulk worked on Starfield. Visually it looks like they just repurposed the assets from Fallout 4 to make this. Clearly the Q&A was minimal.

We know the engine for this is a modded version of the Fallout 4 engine made by Bethesda Austin. Formerly BattleCry studios. Their history is working on multiplayer and free to play projects. And Bethesda Montreal is also involved which is a satellite studio of the main team. So I question a little bit how many people on Todd Howards team in Maryland even touched this thing.

This might have been a halfassed project from the start. Sort of like Zenimax's Elder Scrolls Online was in the MMO space.

Well they have plans to. That could obviously change if people stop playing it entirely, but I imagine it's likely there will be something at some point. But simply opening new vaults doesn't really address the game's non-content issues, I guess. So you're probably right.

I think I read somewhere that Todd Howard said ES6 would be on this engine as well.... not sure about Starfield though since we don't know what kind of game it is IIRC.
