I'm still wondering why they choose 10 Commandments for these elite demons rather than using the 10 Plagues from the book of Exodus. The emblems on the 10 Plagues are a lot cooler compared to the 10 commandments.
The first nine work,
Blood, Animals, frogs, disease, locusts, bad weather, etc
Darkness would also work, but how would they fit in the death of each first born ?

I would like to know if mel was a commandment up until the sealing...then how did estarossa or any other present member become one of the ten?...

As his replacement i should clarify....:hmm
I think it's more like Meliodas leaving the commandements during the old war then an other guy took his place

Definitely.
Escanor will likely fight the "thou shall have no other gods", too.

Well, Estarossa is definitely remembering the Sabbath and keeping it holy. Maybe his Commandment power can make people apathetic and lazy.

Perhaps King will fight him, being the Sin of Sloth.

I find it interesting that the 10 Commandments literally have conceptual powers. Makes me wonder if the 7 SINs are conceptually empowered like them also.

I recall Captain on two separate occasions giving his comrades orders. His comrades asked whether or not the order was an "absolute" order.

Lust didn't follow the order as Captain didn't deem it absolute.

Ban followed the order as Captain deemed it absolute in spite of seemingly wanting to murder the shit out Captain seconds prior.

It could simply be that because he's the captain that they have to follow any order he deems absolute... Or perhaps if they disobey his absolute order, they suffer his wrath.

Because the author chose the name because it sounded cool most likely. You do realize that the Ten Commandments, as in from the Abrahamic religions, don't exist in their world right? The Demon King didn't base the group off of that. The author did and he's using them as a motif for each of their commandment, but in story that's not the inspiration for it.

You are a bit mistaken. Magic is important but for most of commandments it isn't something special. We have people like Merlin, whose main abilities are concentrated on magic so their power lvl is mostly made by magic and we have beings like Meliodas whose magic is only tiny part of his power because he needs magic to use his countering powers(full counter, revenge counter and so on). So for commandments whose power is not concentrated on magic it is not so big difference in their power with and without magic. They just can not use their magic abilities. We can also assume that sacred treasures draw real potential but not from whole power lvl but from only magic and that is why Meliodas can create clones which are perfect for his magic abilities, Diane's Gideon makes her earth magic stronger, in case of Ban his Snatch will be more powerful and so on. So only those from commandments whose abilities are concentrated mostly on magic will be seriously weakened but i think most of them are Meliodas type so it doesn't matter because their magic is weak from the beginning.

Well the commandments' magic is probably pretty significant. For starters, the war 3,000 years ago was for magical power iirc and right after the commandments were unsealed, they commented on their drained magic power and the need to refill. It's probably quite significant to them or they wouldn't think of waiting to regain it before taking actions. As for their abilities, I doubt there's any correlation for that. Galan's ability is to turn liars to stone, apparently an automatic thing rather than self induced. The others might have parameters following the Biblical commandments but we can't exactly predict the effects.

And that is exactly why I clearly stated "for the average Commandment who does not rely on magic entirely".
Don't make a fool of both of us...

Magic is very important for everyone, even if they are physical fighters just imagine how the Sins would be if they were unable to use Magics, it changes a lot of things.

If you dont have other abilities maybe yes but for example Meliodas doesn't need his magic abilities(countering abilities) because he has power of darkness and hmm it looks like only Meliodas is able to use power of darkness. Commandments are always at their peak, their power is activated but Meliodas is different. His power is divided on stages.
1 stage- base form in which he crushed Galan
2 stage- form with demonic mark
3 stage- power of darkness
And possible 4th stage. Complete transformation and assimilation with darkness. So there is one conclusion. Meliodas is stronger than most of commandments in his base form. Stage 2 will be enough to defeat the strongest commandments and stage 3 and possible stage 4 are going to be used against future real enemy but we already know that Meliodas has to learn how to use his power of darkness properly because in the past he couldn't because he was walking nuke.
So there is no one at this world who knows real power of Meliodas. He himself probably doesn't know his peak because he couldn't use his full power or at least while being conscious. Maybe Druids know because sealed his power and had to compress it to be able to lock into amber. And that is why they shit their pants.

I think he kinda shares the same stages with at least Estarossa and Zeldris. Although they always have the mark on their face (I assume it's because they assume they are demon, and Meliodas is somehow "hiding" it because he's good). I'm assuming Nabaka will show all of Meliodas power in the arc, just to get him a power-up in th next one.
I don't see him defeating Zeldris or Estarossa while holding back, and if it happens that would be kinda lame

He was holding back in the past for sure because he is always holding back his power. He couldn't use his real power(power of darkness) because it would make him go on rampage. So if he can remember clearly what happened between him and Zeldris so it means that he never lose himself in wrath and it means that his basic form and his form with mark were enough to fight with demons in ancient war. Now he will be able to use his real power because he can control his wrath and wrath is connected to his power of darkness. We have to analyse everything what happened even if it wasnt stated clearly. Just look what he did to Galan. He crushed him with only raw strength, without his magic skill(well, he needs his magic power to counter other magic powers so here it wasnt needed) and only in his base form while Galan was at his peak. So how enormous magic Galan had to have to be able to be equal to base Meliodas? 10K? 20k? Even if he had 50k magic it wouldnt matter because Meliodas can counter it and crush him with only raw strength and it still would be in his base form. Accursed demon means something and for me it means that Meliodas is special among demons because he can control pure darkness which can consume everything.

Darkness abilities count as magics, it's not a physical stat.

Well we're not 100% he fought Zeldris 1 vs. 1, we just know he contributed of the Demon clan's sealing. I know he crushed Galan, but he wasn't expecting Meliodas to come back 100x stronger, by the time he got the 1st hit it was already too late for him since Meliodas clearly had the advantage. I'm sure if Galan was aware he wouldn't have been crushed this easily. I still doubt Meliodas was holding his power 3000 years ago because it was an enormous war. Maybe he used all his rage and the demon's were weaker enough to be sealed. I'm sure if they could have erased them they would have done it, so maybe they couldn't kill them.
Also Fraudrin survived Meliodas full power, so I'm quiet sure the best commandements can go toe-toe against Meliodas.

This is just assumptions. But I really think for the sake of the arc Nabaka is gonna show all of what Meliodas can do. Because if he doesn't that means there is no suspens in this arc, if the reader knows Meliodas can beat 10 commandements while holding back. I'm pretty sure Nabaka is gonna stick to the classic going all out + getting a power up in the next arc shonen technique

Not necessarily. We saw the commandments use the darkness thing to fly around and summon demons even when their power was virtually at 0. At least for the basic form of the darkness thing no magic is required. Perhaps it makes sense to consider the black mark as a limb which the demons can manipulate freely. And it wouldn't be weird that there are specific or more advanced darkness techniques which also require magic.

The big question here, IMO, would be whether the demons could heal and recover from injuries while inside the seal. If they were in some form of stasis then it would make sense that they would awaken pretty much exactly as they were before being sealed safe for their magic because the seal itself erased it. With that logic then we could make the case that the demons before being sealed were perhaps at least not significantly injured or anything from battle. However this is a weird scenario. Anyways, the only way this could happen is that the commandments were lured somewhere, a trap, and they feel for it and where sealed. Its plausible there was some fighting but not serious enough so as to allow them to pretty much be at top physical condition after being sealed.

The alternative is that the seal allowed them to recover and they were caught after being defeated. They would have healed within the seal. However that is improbably because the seal itself seems to have preserved them for 3000 years.

Meliodas with all his wrath could not even kill fraudrin. The commandments at their full power are all likely to be difficult enemies for meliodas and the sins. Even gallan should be more of a threat once his magic recovers. Unless his magic was already full though that sounds unlikely.

He's likely talking about Meliodas' darkness technique which obliterated Danafor, not the black-jet marks.
