Zeno and Aranak were most likely patience and repose which went into Dolor and Gloxinia. Gowther of selflessness went into Fraudrin. Calmidos of Betrayal went into Zeldirs of Piety. Meliodas of thou shall not covet (kill) went into grayroad. But too me I feel like Mel commandment of not covet was deeper in meaning. Like a mixture of love and Pacifism. Where if you even try to hurt someone in anger or purpose then you lose something. Either life span or the option to use strength. Just a theory though but tell me what you think
You're a genius, but losing life span... I think it's something different like losing strength.

Meliodas couldn't have been pacifism, if he was then he couldn't kill his enemies. And we could make the case that pacifism was meant as a control measure for meliodas exact that we saw him kill a goddess in a flashback. It makes sense that meliodas was either repose or patience.

Thinking about the Commandments always gets confusing imo. Unless there are some loopholes with Pacifism, I don't see how Meliodas could have had it, we see him kill, a lot, and he was known as such. we still haven't seen Repose or Patience yet as far as I know, besides my theory that Glox used it to distract everyone when they grabbed King and Diane. It's possible Mel had one of the two but I doubt it. The thing is, based on all evidence, Commandments don't change, so there has to be direct line. What's even worse is that we see both Zeldris and Estarossa active during the Holy War, but not if they re actual commandments.

I wonder if Zeldris' commandment is also to make sure he also doesn't betray the DK and demons like Mel. Piety means that even if Zeldris wants to betray the demon clan for love (Gelda reincarnation) or for other reasons he can't. As his commandment would make him instantly loyal to the DK again. I wonder if the DK had this in mind when giving Zeldris his commandment as his situation was similar to Mel's in the past.

It will be interesting to see what commandment Mel had if he had one. As he would surely have not being able to betray the demons with piety or fight properly with pacifism and love. He may have had love but Mel seems to have a lot of hate in his demon form so I think he didn't. The fact no one has mentioned Mel's commandment may mean he didn't have one for some reason. Which may explain why he didn't suffer from invoking it. If he did have one it will also be interesting to see how he got rid of it.

Estarosa was shown as a commandment in his flashback. He likely also had the same commandment as he does now. I do think meliodas definitely had either repose or patience. While we don't know what commandments zeno and aranak had we can pretty much rule out which commandments meliodas can't have. As a matter of fact meliodas can't have piety, love, purity, reticence, faith, truth, selflessness and pacifism because most of those were held by someone else whom we can trace. Which leaves repose and patience. The only way meliodas can have a commandment that isn't either of those is that the commandments get switched around living commandments....

What I am thinking now is that perhaps since mel is now the since of wrath then perhaps his commandment would be the one most opposite to wrath. Perhaps even as the means to keep him in check so thathe doesn't arbitrarily end his allies. Though I guess that would depend on what exactly repose or patience entails. My guess would be that repose is a bit likelier than patience in that context at least.

Another thing which doesn't make sense though is when meliodas lost his commandment. I guess it would be when the demon king killed him and then his commandment was given to another demon.

For me I can see Meliodas being unaffected by the commandments. My reasoning is he is the leader which means he is in charge. Or atleast made him non affected by his own commandment (pacifism) which means he can still kill. The not affected is a stretch but in NNT there is a lot we still don't know so anything is possible. Might as well throw random theories out there and build on them

He was affected by Love and Charity during his battle against the Ten Commandments. The former is the reason his Revenge Counter proved to be useless.

The author already said that commandments are unaffected by other commandments. They are only vulnerable to their own commandments. So for instance zeldris can lie to galan. For what you are suggesting to work then meliodas as a commandment would have to be immune also to his own commandment.

Yes I know he was affected but at that point he was not apart of the 10C. I'm saying when he was and had his own Commandment, the DK placed something where he can't be affected by his own.

Yes correct. The DK would place an immune on him

Ah, you were referring to the past. Well, who knows. He was immune to the nine other decrees, but we have no details about his.

Technically we have no concret proof that Estarossa was a Commandment, he could have been Meliodas' Squire, like Fraundrin to Gowther. The one flashback is the closest to proof but Zeldris seemed to have been active too, so it's hard to tell. Also, we need some Aranak, Zeno, and Calmandios fleshing out, don't you think?

3000 years ago there was a group called the black knights of the demon clan iirc. Someone mentioned in a discussion that maybe Zeldris lead them before he became a Commandment. Do we know anyone else that might be in that group. Derriere sister or even Fraudrin could apply. The black knights could be under the commandments and when a spot is open then the strongest move up. So Zeldris and Fraudrin both moved up in the end of the holy war with Calmidos dying and Gowther disappearing. Derriere sister could of been up there also but she died to the goddesses

Come on, that is clearly meant to be the commandments upon whom meliodas ruled as leader. We have no reason to doubt meliodas was a commandment at this point in time. Estarosa being a squire of sorts would be a huge asspull. What does the kalmadios, aranak and zeno fleshing out have to do with anything? That seems irrelevant.

It's unlikely that Estarossa's Commandment changed. Zeldris was not a TC back then, he was the Executioner while Karmadios was Piety.

Original TC
  1. Estarossa→Love.
  2. Gowther→Selflessness.
  3. Karmadios→Piety.
  4. Monspiet→Reticence.
  5. Derrierie→Purity.
  6. Galan→Truth.
  7. Merascylla→Faith.
  8. Aranak→???
  9. Zeno→???
  10. Meliodas→???

That leaves Patience, Repose and Pacifism. Meliodas can't have been the Pacifist since he killed people. I think he had the Patience one because it sounds better than Repose to me.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, I just don't like starting thing that I can't complexly prove, and on Estarossa being a squire, I actually like the idea, if Meliodas had Love, it could explain why he was so effective in battle, he might never have needed to hate anyone, because they never came close to beating him, I dint exactly think it's likely, but I do like the idea.

For one thing, it would clear up these questions, for another, doesn't it bother you just a bit to have members of the Ten Commandments, the top warriors of the demon race, get literally one mention before disappearing? Meliodas said Kal retreated and he said he would return, I think he actually died but if he didn't, why don't we know what happened, who else could have killed him? An archangel? Mael? I'd see that. I'm hoping for a gaiden or something that shows Mel back during his Prime, maybe when he met Elizabeth, that shows the original commandments and their relationship/dynamics. We haven't even seen a commandment fight to the death yet. Aranak Zeno and Gowther were shown killed, Greyroad Mela and Galand were captured or incapacitated.

None of that has absolutely anything to do with estarosa being a commandment which is what I addressed in my previous post.

Sorry, I think I misunderstood what you meant. My original mention of them was in relation to the Ten Commandments overall, not just Estarossa. It just happened to be that we were mentioning background, and I was thinking g about other commandments without defined information. My bad.

I got the impression that the Black Knights were an older organization that was sort of the conservative Old Guard if you will, of the demon clan, which the Ten Commandments upset, I think the idea of a ranking up system in plausible, but we know Frundrin was never actually recognized as a commandment (at least according to Meliodas) so I don't exactly think it is concrete or anything.

has anyone tried matching up the NNT interpretation of the ten commandments to the actual Abrahamic religions' 10 commandments that they are "loosely" based off of according to the wikia.

Like one of the easy ones being Grayroad/Pacifism is #6 "thou shall not kill".

But what about #4 "honor thy father and mother" whose commantment is that?
Or even #8 "thou shall not steal"?

Plus the first 3 commandments all have some link involving Zeldris' Piety but then all of them also could match Melascula's Faith.

Just trying to flesh out exactly what the other commandments' curses could be to flesh out the rest of the arc.

Well, we know pretty much no one has those commandments. The commandment simply don't match their biblical counterparts. I think there were buddist precepts which could plausibly be related though. Still, it seems like nakaba went with what made more sense from a storytelling point of view rather than being literal. Honor thy father and mother could be somewhat related to piety though. And of course, no commandment relates to stealing. Honestly, how half the commandments would even work is a mystery to me. Purity, reticence, repose, patience... We know what those mean but how they would actually be triggered makes no sense to me. Derieri is purity but if shouldn't even be related to lust considering we saw a human lusting over her and suffered no consequences due to that at least. And we have seen plenty of people show emotion around moonspiet (unless I don't get what reticence is). And who knows what counts as being impatient around dolor...

So.... What exactly is the relationship between moonspiet and derieri? I figured they were lovers early on however since they were introduced I have begun to doubt that a bit. Mostly because there are certain aspects of their relationship which do not necessarily scream "SEX". For one, you have moonspiet trying to put clothes on derieri. You'd think he wouldn't mind that at all however he has never brought that up even when people literally lust over her and in turn brought it up when they are completely alone after he had given her a hair cut. The bit when they confronted the archangels seemed a bit of to me. Neither really objected to the other using indura. This is a manga where lovers consistently tell even their gods to fuck themselves sideways if they so much as dare to lay a hand on the people they are in love with, you'd think moonspiet or derieri would have objections to the other using indura.

It really seems like they have a father/daughter thing, at least, Monspiet's treatment of her implies that that's how he sees her or wants to see her.

It's possible that something happened before they were sealed that caused him to begin viewing her this way. It may coincide with her shift in personality as well, or whatever caused her to start speaking in her cryptic way.
