Don't think Kubo would pull something like that with Bleach how Bobo's managka did. I know he's drawn out the arc longer than he's supposed to but I think he's setting it up perfectly to where he can transition into the new arc. Yes the story progression is slow but I feel if he rushes than he would be really screwed and he wouldn't be able to tell the story like he wanted to. All and all I think Bleach is going to be ok but that might just be me being optimistic. Like I said before I don't think it's time to write its obituary yet.
I'm not writing an obituary but the path Bleach has taken as of late just feels like what has happened with Bo-bobo. Speaking from my experiences with Bo-bobo, Sawai did what he could in order to move the story along when he was forced under pressure. While I admit there were some story problems with what he was doing (let alone some of the characters just didn't work...at all...and I feel the same with the new path of Bleach post time-skip), he did do so at a pace that didn't feel like he was rushed (at first) and did resolve a few things quickly when he was forced to due to his decline. Kubo could still right his airplane but something just tells me that even if he does, the series glory days are done and it may start giving way to a lot of the newer, fresher, more interesting series in the magazine even if it continues to it's conclusion in relative peace in the middle of the magazine.

I think ST&RS is really cool and I can't wait to see where it's going.
Ikkyu is meh. Could serve as a cushion later I guess.
Mirror world is...interesting xD The first chapter had a nice ending too, making me want to see more.
Hopefully Mirror world and ST&RS don't get cancelled anytime soon, I'm starting to take a liking to them.

Yeah, also just read ST&RS 2 and it was yet another enjoyable week. (Even though the whole competition among the groups could have been a bit more intense and dramatic, but I guess that will follow in the next chapters.)

----

On another note:
The first three entries for the Gold Future Cup all look and sound kinda... meh. Artwise Tsukimi no Soba (#3) looks best from the preview pic. Takamagahara really sounds like a Tenjou Tenge or Ikkitousen rip off.
Hopefully the other three entries will be more appealing. :)

The middle manga for the golden future cup looks so cool. The first looks extremely plain :|

Art's a bit basic but I'm kinda interested in the third. First two aren't really doing it for me.

Kano's new series looks cute. It looks like it will be worth a try, at least.

Harisugawa is the first series I've ever dropped after looking at the first page.

St&rs is really enjoyable though. And I absolutely adore the artwork. I think I'm going to keep reading this series, so I hope the readers don't disappoint me. :(

With this current lineup and bottom 5 i fear for any new series cause the competition to stay in the magazine is very fierce with long running series joining the fest...

Lets see how it develops, i'm sure i wouldn't bother if bleach, reborn would be canceled since i don't like them a couple years ago.

I like the setting of St&rs, but not the MC. We already have Naruto, and we don't need another one.

Guys I propose a game out of the following mangas from WSJ write a number from 1 to 11, 1 being the earliest, 11 being the lastest.
How long do you think these mangas will continue on WSJ?
Also if you guys feel like I should have added other manga, like Kochikame or Kuroko (SP?) no basuke let me know.

One Piece
Naruto
Bleach
Toriko
Sket Dance
Bakuman
Medaka Box
Gintama
Beelzebub
Reborn!
Nurarihyon no Mago

It would be fun to see in a couple of months who guessed x right.
In my example I numbered ONE PIECE 11 because I think out of those mangas its the one that will finish last and REBORN! 1 because I think its ending is approaching soon.
Also I didn´t want to end HXH because its such a special case.. I mean, for all we know Togashi could publish 1 volume worth of chapters each 1 or 2 years like he has been doing.

Here is my order:
1.-Reborn!
2.-Bakuman
3.-Nurarihyon no Mago
4.-Medaka Box
5.-Naruto
6.-Gintama
7.-Bleach
8.-Sket Dance
9.-Beelzebub
10.-Toriko
11.-One Piece

  1. Mago: Mago reminds me of Mx0 or Muhyo. It sells pretty well but never seemed to find it's place on the TOC. Some weeks it is in the middle, others it is low. Once the second season of the anime has ended, I could see it ending - only to resume in SQ six months later.
  2. Medaka Box: Another Mx0/Muhyo type. If it doesn't get an anime by the spring, I think it will end. If it does get an anime, it will last an extra year - give it three months after the anime ends. Also a candidate to move to SQ. Sales are solid enough and it would appeal to SQ readers.
  3. Bakuman: Not sure how long the concept can be extended for, or how long Obata and Ohba will remain interested. I'm sure there is at least a year or two left though. Considering it's popularity there is no chance of early cancellation.
  4. Naruto: This is clearly the last arc but the edo tensei fights made it clear the end would be mercilessly stretched. Naruto will probably end sometime in 2012.
  5. Sket Dance: Sket has had amazing run. An award winning series, the only survivor of the class of 2007, and an anime. Sket seems like the type of series that lasts for five or six years, not ten to twenty. I expect two or three more years of serialization, a natural ending, and color pages for the last chapter.
  6. Beelzebub: Beelzebub reminds me of dark ages Jump. Quirkier series that do not quite feel like Jump, but couldn't have come from anywhere else. Like many series from the dark ages, Beelze has had moderate sales, an anime, and will likely last four or five years. I expect it to end in 2013 or 2014. It is the type of series that could lose popularity and get canceled quickly.
  7. Bleach: Jump will try stretching this one as long as they can, but there is only so far it can go. It does not look like Bleach can sustain a villain of the week structure, or a new villain every arc. There are only a limited number of scenario Ichigo can be dropped in, as this arc demonstrates. I don't see this dip in the polls as the beginning of the end, only a sign of things to come. Bleach will rebound but start to lose energy, gradually losing fans. I think it is cancelled in four or five years.
  8. Reborn: Reborn has a niche audience that will prop it up for years to come, should it be abandoned by mainstream readers. The plot does not have a definite, do or die end - no One Piece to find, no will of fire and sharingan to reconcile. It could be stretched as long as Amanou wants to. I bet it lasts a while, no matter what happens with the plot. Another series that could be moved to SQ if needed.
  9. Toriko: Still a relatively new series, a tournament manga, an author committed to world building, by and established mangaka, and has the support of the editorial staff. Toriko will be around for a long time. Sales might not allow it to be considered the successor to OP, Naruto, and Bleach but they are still good. It was nominated for the Manga Taisho award, so it appeals to manga snobs and critics. The anime just started and it has always polled high. Everything is set for another ten years in the magazine, if not more.
  10. One Piece: Oda is clearly only at the half way point of his world, it's the most popular manga ever, and has grown in popularity in the last two years. No end in sight and will likely out last the rest of magazine.

Gintama gets an N/A. It's a consistently popular series, has shown no signs of losing any popularity, and is generally recognized as one of the great recent comedy manga. The plot does not ever need to be resolved, like KochiKame it is episodic and built to go on as long as desired. If Sorachi wants to go down that road, Gintama can last forever. If not, it could end this year. Gintama will last as long as Sorachi wants it to, and that is impossible to predict.

I still don;t think Reborn is as close to ending as people think. There are still plenty of things left to cover that Amano could use to strech out a few more arcs if she wanted. Heck I could even possibly see a timeskip coming up soon, since I;m pretty sure the Inheritance arc will end with Tsuna finally deciding to take on the role of the 10th.

Medaka Box should be done by sometime next year. Maybe by spring to coincide with the rumored anime adaption by Gainax(which is probably true), but either way it;s on it;s last arc, and Ishin seems to be claiming as such in the story.

Naruto should also be done before the end of next year, everything is coming together, and while the War arc may take a while to complete it should be able to bring about a pretty good resolution to everything. Not to mention Kishimoto has already mentioned that he has other manga ideas he wants to work on so clearly he doesn;t plan to run Naruto into the ground.

As for Bakuman I have no clue. Everytime I think it;s close to the end, it keeps on going, which is fine I guess since this series has a reason to be longer than Death Note was. Still I can;t imagine it going more than maybe another 2 years at best, mostly because it shouldn;t take too long into their adulthood for Mashiro and Takagi to get their anime adaption.

For everything else, I can;t make any solid predictions, even though Toriko is moving at a much faster pace than would be expected of that sort of adventure series.

I will only comment on "big 3" from WSJ:
- Naruto - heading nicely to its end. Editors may one way or the other prolong it, but either way it will end in a near future <final clash between Naruto vs Sasuke <without spoilers, speculation> will at least make half a year to finish methinks, haha :p>
- Bleach & OP - if I recall correctly both mangakas declared that they will ruuuun for a long time, though with Bleach anything is possible unless Kubo does sth with the recent stuff going on in the manga :p

1. Bakuman: Obata doesn't do so long series.
2. Naruto: It is clearly in its final line.
3. Nurarihyon no Mago: I can't see it extending after the final battle with Seimei. Even the new arc is related to the previous one. Hyaku Monogatari was the clan that revived the fox. It's all about Seimei.
4. Beelzebub: It has not potential. The comedy is getting boring and the plot does not seem to move forward.
5. Sket Dance: I can't see it extending infinitely. Time passes in Sket Dance, someday the characters will graduate.
6. Gintama: I hope that Sorachi will end the series soon in a awesome way (as Nizuma Eiji).
7. Reborn!: The plot is open, so it can last much longer if Amano wants.
8. Bleach: Kubo already said that he wanted to continue for another 10 years. Also, I'm sure that when the shinigamis reappear, Bleach will rise in the rankings.
9. Toriko: after all the hype that Jump is giving it, probably they want that Toriko becomes a new success as Naruto or Bleach.
10. One Piece: As everybody has said, Oda still have much to tell.

I don't read Medaka Box, so I can't say anything about it.
Sorry for my bad english.

I didn´t give my reasons for the rankings, I was gonna edit but I will post here:
1.-Reborn! It sells well, it ranks consistently good enough not to be cancelled, has a stable fan-base and for what I know it can be stretched for years to come.. So why did I rank it here?
Solely for a reason:
The anime ended and while Gintama´s anime adaptation end too it had a continuation, the sells for the tanks are good yeah I know but the lost of the anime, now I don´t know how well it sells or how its story is going (I don´t read it) but from what I have read of other people´s opinions the story is being stretched.
Still the fujoshi fan-girls will probably make my prediction turn out to be false.
I give it a year and a half. 40-45 Volumes

2.-Bakuman Its a very interesting, entertaining, very-good selling manga, then why? Because of the authors history of mangas, they tend to have medium sized works, IIRC Hikaru No Go is Takeshi Obata longest serial and the premise of Bakuman itself.. I mean I just can´t see this manga lasting longer than 25 volumes, it currently has enough chapters worth 16 volumes (well 15 and a half) and using my logic of this manga not being possibly longer than 25 volumes then I give it 2 years top to end, simple as that, obviously it won´t be a cancelation but an ending, likely an open-ending kinda like Hikaru No Go (I know the mangakas are different writters for both series but Bakuman seems like the kind of manga that will have an open-ending).
2 years from now it should end. 20-25 Volumes

3.-Nurarihyon no Mago Currently with a second season it has at least support for half a year AT LEAST, but something strikes me of this being cancelled, like it not being able to really pick up on sales and JUMP deciding to cancel it so that the mangaka makes a new manga.
Mago has 2 years left in my opinion. 25-30 Volumes

4.-Medaka Box If it weren´t because of its anime adaptation I wouldn´t even had included this in the list, anyway I think the anime will give it a little boost, nothing too big and it will end in around 2 or 3 years.. Thinking things straight I should probably have put this at number 2.. I can see this canceled half a year after its anime adaptation by being low 5 in the TOC..
Still the name of the author, T&A and Gainax making an anime out of it.. Should be good enough to promote sells and merchandise.
As I said in this post, rethinking stuff I think this might not last that long. However I give it 2 more years. 20-25 Volumes

5.-Naruto I hope this is the last arc, sadly the war has turned a way I predicted lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg agoooooooooo.. Like back when Orochimaru first used you know what, I said to myself "This technique is too uber.."
Anyway, Kishi could continue this for around 2 to 3 years. 70-75 Volumes

6.-Gintama As Kaiten said, apparently Gintama is very, very liked, when the anime concluded the fans were sad.. Sunrise response was a "Best of" a movie and then continued the anime, I have not heard/remember of any JUMP manga or (any other) with a similar situation, besides Yu-Gi-Oh! but that was different, different companies involved and the series was way different from it first season..
What I am trying to say is: Gintama is popular, its episodic (That´s one thing Reborn! doesn´t have going for it!) has an anime (Reborn! doesn´t) it could be the next Kochikame, in fact IIRC it sells wayyyyy better than Kochikame, no?? I mean Kochikame doesn´t actually sell that well but its a staple because of how long it has been, right?
My prediction is based on something I read saying Sorachi wanted Gintama to last 30 volumes.. So far there is around 43 volumes worth of material so he has exceeded its expectation by 13 volumes.. So what ONE PIECE has by like 35 volumes!! (And will continue) Anyway I think Sorachi didn´t intend to make a loooong series yet Gintama managed a stable fan-base, a continuation of its anime, a movie adaptation, very good sales and its still strong.. TL;DR its hard to predict, but I say.. 3-4 years. 55-60 Volumes

7.-Sket Dance Seems like a Gintama with less popularity, not bad at all but not as popular. 3-4 more years. 30-35 Volumes

8.-Bleach Lets imagine 3 scenarios.
-Good: It gets better and its anime continues. I don´t think sales will get better, In fact in the best of cases I would expect them to either stay the same or drop a little bit.
-Medium: It continues being shit (IMO) and the anime continues. The sales will probably dimish slowly until around 400,000-500,000 per volume.
-Bad: It continues being shit (IMO) and the anime ends. This could spell DOOM for BLEACH yet I think even without its anime adaptation it could still be suppored by JUMP at least for a while so that Kubo ends it in a "natural" way, its volumes sell less by each volume reaching low marks of 300,000 or so volumes (Which is pretty good but not BLEACH good)
I think I am going to go with the Medium scenario, I don´t see BLEACH getting better or even getting to the level it once had back in Soul Society, now its all about cool poses and Bankais and battles and Aizen trolling, scratch that actually..
5-6 years. 75-80 Volumes

9.-Beelzebub. Its just a feeling but I think Beelzebub is gonna be the next JUMP big thing, I mean I haven´t even read nor watched the first chapter/episode, I know barely nothing about the series (Except there is this naked demon-child being taken care of by a punk) nor I have the volume data, and I know the comercialization in other regions of the world is gonna be though because of the baby being naked.. But God I saw this avatar of the baby Beelzebub (Is that its name?) with a Oudan suit.. He looked so badass and funny LOL! and I said to myself "This is IT!"
Also the reason I don´t read "new" Jump mangas is because I get "heart-broken" when they get cancelled, I am a simplistic folk, I tend to like over-the top, generic mangas, I liked how Metallica was turning (Kinda like HXH IMO) and KO Sen was good IMO then.. Well we know what happened. Maybe its about time I watch some Beelzebub.
6 years. 35-40 volumes

10.-Toriko Toriko has been marketed as the next big thing practically since chapter 1, it better be LOL.
8-10 years. 55-60 Volumes

11.-One Piece Its ONE PIECE, the manga that literally outsold the combined TOP 9 property mangas.. It can continue lots of years.
15 years. 130-135 Volumes. Also as a extra prophecy of mine: I think ONE PIECE will get published in 2 different Shueisha magazines at the same time in the future, It will still have its weekly chapter in WSJ but the same chapter will be published in other Seinen Shueisha magazines the same week, something like that, for readers of Seinen magazines that grew with ONE PIECE
