Toho Producer Okamura Wakana in this interview said that she wants to make the Heroaca anime so that the kids that are watching the anime now can still watch it when they grow up. She wants to continue it for the next 10 years.
The expectations are not the same, but one thing all the series has in common: the expectations are high because it is a good timeslot. If the expectations are different, then My Hero Academia is certainly in the upper half of the list, it is a Jump series with great success after all.
Space Brothers, for example, is great, better than My Hero Academia in very circumstance, but we cannot deny that it is less popular than My Hero Academia. If you deny that the expectations over My Hero Academia are high, you are underestimating the series you are defending with so much urge.

You're saying its less popular even though there's nothing to suggest that it is unless you're talking strictly manga sales wise and ignoring everything else you're still not proving where this expectations cime from.

Yuragi's lead color pages last issue have been getting a lot of attention on Twitter recently. Started with a woman on Twitter complaining that it's bad to put erotic series at the front of the mag and it would be not good for children to see.

Certain authors commented on this also, including the author of Tsugumomo, Youkai Shoujo, Kunoichi no Ichi (in WYJ), and Tatsuya Egawa (Golden Boy, Magical Taluluto author).
Glad there's a lot of support for Yuuna out there though.
But when Mineta makes a rape joke that's all fine and dandy? Yuragi does have some of craziest fanservice I've seen since TLR though, haha. Were the other authors commenting negatively like that woman?
I can kinda see where they are coming from. However, Jump is aimed at people upwards of what, 12, 13 years old? I feel like a colour page of Yuragi is the least of their worries when they have the internet readily available. Maybe I'm looking at it from the wrong perspective, I dunno.

So having naked women is worse than a series about kids that are being raised to be eaten like livestock? Or a series where the main character is a serial murderer and kills hundreds of people by writing their names in a book? HxH at first glance literally looks like a series about a 12 year old kid getting the shit beat out of him. Jump has always had series that aren't suitable for kids. Yuuna is nothing new or worse than what's been in the magazine before. Especially when the other 3 main shounen magazines have gravure idols on their covers almost every week. Or when the porno mags are literally a few steps away from the manga magazines in every convenience store, out in the open for everyone to read. Age classifications have always been a bit weak in Japan. Stupid argument really.

To be fair, Mineta gets a lot of hate, in the western audience at least. I personally don't like him anymore.
Yep, you're seeing from the wrong perspective, is not because there is ways to seeing bad things, that we should accept, encorage or allow them in other places. That is a pretty horrible argument and that in the end would allow everything bad in anyplace.
Still, I don't think is anything wrong with allowing Yuragi Covers in the magazine, still is a pretty good and important conversation to have. If of course every people involved is open minded and can talk freely.

So, you're saying that WSJ is already perverted pile of shit, so everything is OK, and there is no argument? Aren't you just doing the opposite giving more ammunition to the opposition?
You're just throwing anything out there in the hopes something sticks. Did the person complained about existing a series like Yuragi in the magazine? I don't think so. She complained about the exposure in the front of the magazine!
Also "Sex" and "Violence" aren't the same thing and shouldn't be treated like the same thing. While violence has a big story of appearing in the open in fiction, sex has a huge story of being a taboo and being shunned.
I haven't been in a Japanese store, but for what I seen in the internet, they have a well defined division between Normal magazines and series and Porno/******. That is even a joke in many series, for example Sakamoto desu ga.
Also while Seinen, Shonen and Kodomo is just a target audience and don't have age regulation, ****** and pornographic magazines do have in Japan. So is not really that age classifications have been weak in Japan.

She kinda did in an indirect "let it rot in the back and hopefully it'll just go away because I find it inappropriate" sense. Essentially because of its subject matter it should automatically get disqualified from receiving any promotion or publicity that might help it succeed? Which seems awfully close-minded to me anyway. Considering how much exposure matters. Especially for a series like Yuragi which already took far longer than it should have to get just its second cover considering how well it has been selling.

Well everything is okay really... For a magazine obviously targeted at a fairly young audience, they're pretty open to everything. Sex and excessive violence seem to be the only real things they won't allow, or at least allow shown.
Honestly, complaining about how it shouldn't be on the front of the magazine is the same as complaining it shouldn't be in there to start with. Whether it's in the front or not, it doesn't change the fact anyone who gets the magazine will be exposed to the series. There's no real difference... Still, how is this worse than Jumps main competitors having bikini shots of idols on the covers every week? If anything I think it's more an issue of Shounen being targeted at too young an audience than the series themselves pushing the boundaries. Even the more toned down series like OP and DBZ still have pretty strong themes for a primary schooler.
Yes book/movie stores do have separate sections. Convenience stores and many others however, don't. They're literally on the same shelf, sometimes down at the bottom, sometimes right next to them. Anyone could read them. Kids would see them even if they tried to avoid it. Honestly though, you can't really comment on this if you haven't been to the country. The age classifications are very blurred, worryingly so. This is pretty apparent for anyone who's been to the country and one of the first things I find people comment on because it's so surprising, and contrary to what you'd believe despite them being such a conservative country. Sex is everywhere you look, much more so than Western cultures. I have no doubt kids in Japan are exposed to it much much younger than in Western cultures. If you go to Japan, you WILL find yourself in a shady shop/area, even without intending too just because of how well disguised/out in the open they are. I'm not saying it isn't a problem, but it's how Japan has been for a long time.
What did I say? That although you guys see Yuragi as the purest thing of the world *sarcasm*, people outside of this thread are not that understanding. Although I despise TLRD as well, I don't remember something like this coming from it in the open. The covers and Lead CPs at least had girls in bikini, not completely naked. There was that app and all, but it is much more hidden and only big fans would bother downloading, so there is time and place for everything.
I personally would never allow my kids to buy Jump knowing that they might come across something like that, so Shueisha should have that in mind.

Yes, other series where small children are taught to kill to survive like Naruto are perfect for children.
Anyway, I guess even some Japanese see Jump as the most "innocent" of the weekly magazines, since I can`t see how she isn`t complaining about stuff form Magazine, Sunday or Champion which have real gravure idols on the cover (and in the actual magazine, with significantly less clothes). Magazine actually has series with sex in them, but somehow this is too much.
To think Jump actually had series like Bastard once. Probably never get away with that now in the main magazine if something like Yuragi is too much.
About the distinction between violence and sex, I think that at least in Jump violence is used in a battle of good against evil. The Promised Neverland appeared in the conversation, so let's use it as an example. It is a story about children being created as livestock, it sounds pretty bad don't you think? But people failed to say that the manga clearly says it is a bad thing and they are fighting against it , so the manga vision of the subject is that it is something bad and wrong. It is mostly the same way for all battle shounen or adventure mangas, where violence appears more often. Like the police uses violence to fight against criminal, which is the only way possible, in mangas the battle between good and evil is the same.
that's funny right, you would have thought that the people 20 years later should be more open-minded and liberal...
maybe this girl is inspired by the western fight against the "patriarchy" and the gender mainstream debate who knows
I guess the fact that (more or less famous) mangaka answered the tweet made this thing look more important than it actually is
in the end it is small & free promo for yuragi-sou no yuuna-san
