In case people haven't seen this, Jump PUSH campaign for Jigokuraku!

I hope it pays off. Jigokuraku deserves to be a 1M seller IMO:emocat . The sales are improving with each volume so that's nice. I wish it gets a boost on the same level as Kimetsu whenever the anime arrives.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

No. 20 millions was also for serie.

Btw :

12 000 000 numbers (29/09) was Worldwide numbers. So, normaly 25 000 000 numbers include also worlwide numbers.
That makes a lot more sense now lol.

Nah, Toei doesn't work on violent series for quite sometime, I don't even remember the last time they worked on such thing. And the last new adaptation they pick was like in 5 years ago, since then they've been doing original series or working on anime that are already a staple to them like One Piece, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and so on. In these days some of those aren't even animated by them, with Toei Animation only being on the production side like with Saintia Sho which was animated by Saintia Sho (which had only Toei on the committee btw) and also the new Digimon movie, which is animated by Yumeta Company with Toei Animation also on the production, but here since it's a movie, Toei (the actual one, not animation) and other companies are probably on production and committee as well.

But good point overall tho. People forget that tons of anime are long-running series outside of the seasonal ones (and even some on the seasonal are). Like you say, most of those are kids anime so many are ignored even though the production of those anime still exists. Aikatsu, Precure, Pripara, Yokai Watch, Gegege no Kitaro, Pokémon and many more out there are like this.
Lol people really forget they did Toriko. I dont blame them b/c I want to forget it too. Its weird that in general Toei has a perception of doing kiddy titles (which is true to an extent) but they've adapted some of the more violent titles in WSJ (Toriko, Hokuto no Ken, Kinnikuman, etc.).

North Star was still pretty violent, they just colored all the blood bright white except for smaller wounds. Though values and broadcast standards have changed a lot since the mid 80s.

Anyway, as people have said, Jump anime are only adapted seasonally simply because it's the more economical method in the 2010s. Per Nakano, Shueisha wasn't even involved with the decision to make Black Clover ongoing, Pierrot came to them with the offer.

lol Nakano said literally the opposite:

"On the other hand, Boruto and Black Clover are handled by Pierrot. How did those come about?

Nakano: Well, Boruto is a continuation of Naruto. Naruto was a series that we all had a lot of hope for twenty years ago. We had a lot of offers from various companies. The editor at the time deliberated on it and eventually chose Pierrot and TV Tokyo because they had an evening slot and could reach out to kids.

Black Clover was a similar case
. It's a series along the lines of our classic battle manga. If we picked a late night time slot for it, it would restrict the audience for it. We also wanted it to air for over a year. "

Technically you can count DiU/Vento Aureo as long running animes. I would consider anything running past 2 cour to be long running.

Speaking of Jojos, did it never get an initial 1M print? Any of them?

Jojo's wasn't really that close to being a million seller, check this data from 2006.

https://www.comipress.com/article/2006/06/01/196.html

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure63 ongoing47,000,000

But the anime gave it a huge boost in sales, reaching 100'000,000 in sales with 119 volumes published. (Average of 840,000 per volume vs 746,000 before back in 2006)

(check out minute 30:08)

Other interesting omission is Golgo 13, I always thought it must have been a million seller at some point.

Captain Tsubasa and Yugioh were titles that sold in average more than a million per volume, so I assumed they had had some volumes reach a printing of 1 million, but I guess not.

As for surprises on the list: I didn't expect Video Girl Ai and Saint Seiya to be on the list, I can definetly understand what happened with SS, it reached 1 million during the 12 Houses arc (Around volumes 6-14 IIRC) and then steadily declined until Hades arc (someone posted it sold 660k at volume 19 which is more or less the start of Hades arc) and then it declined even more because its anime had ended, so it's not like it continuously reached a million in sales...
As for Video Girl, I had always though the best selling romcom manga in Jump was Kimagure Orange Road (Reportedly it sold 18'000,000 with its 18 volume run and it had a long anime like 52 episodes IIRC, while Video Girl Ai had only 6 OVAs, so I just assumed KOR was bigger than VGA)..

Also I had forgotten how popular GTO was for Magazine, I think it's it biggest seller (Per volume)

Kanao looks super cute. I knew she would be the protag in this cover.

I think it's across Japan? I never understood why some sources put it as Japan or worldwide. Also, KnY is ahead by 1M. Maybe bnha numbers will be updated by the time its newest volume releases.
MHA should only be Japan. I remember a press release somewhere saying it has sold a million already in America plus it should have an additional 2-3 million in France alone...

SD/REAL/Vagabond all have a million printing and all series are serialized in different magazines. Inoue is truly a GOAT.

Legit argument I think can be made for Inoue as the greatest mangaka to have lived. At least in terms of talent.

Hm, Weekly Shonen Jump-only app? Or an app for literally everything from Shueisha in the 'Jump' sector?
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Maybe it's an app with every single jump manga to exist. Well the manga that lasted
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Black clover more violent than jjk?... are we reading the same manga?, haahhahaa
Idk. Its toned down a lot in the past few years but in BC's ealier chapters it was pretty bloody
Wait a minute...Saint Seiya was a million seller, and yet Jump still had it canceled against Kuramada's will? The hell was up with the standards of the Golden Age?
Wait Saint Seiya was cancelled?

Death Note's initial prints probably dont come close to what the actual per volume sales would've been.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I definitely thought Prince of Tennis had a higher initial print. At least 1.2-1.3 million.
