Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Not really. This has less to do with them trying to make good with China and more to do with not wanted to be associated with war crimes. Truth be told they didn't even have to do this since the accusations came from people who read the series illegally to begin with. Essentially this is Shuiesha and Horikoshi wiping their slate clean of this controversy and if it continues it goes beyond them.
We aren't talking about anime, which even so, China still is larger than the west together. The manga distribution is completely different compared to anime, which if we got by Kodansha's numbers, Japan is the largest by far with US and China coming with a much smaller number. Which I doubt it's much different from other companies.

Seriously, when the hell do we get a new Jump series with a reception strong enough to survive already? I'm rapidly losing hope...
Sometimes it takes a while, there's been whole years with zero successful series (last year we at least had Chainsawman right at the beginning). I don't think it's happened before when there's been so much empty space in the magazine, but it's still possible that Yozakura or Mitama to stick around to give us 2-3 series from 2019 sticking around.

Remember for Mitama that gag manga don't need to sell as much to be a success, Spring Weapon was around for over a year with sales that would be a clear flop in another genre, and even Isobee, a successful long running series, capped out at I think maybe 20k per volume or less?

Those ranks are all relative, So this is how the other series in the list were doing prior to this volume:

Shoseki Estimates are not actual sales numbers, it can be very different from oricon numbers. The numbers I will post aren't actual shoseki estimates, shoseki only gives estimates for certain ranks. They're basically estimates of estimates. When I calculate those numbers, I assume that the difference between each rank is equal. That is not the most logical method to use, but the simplest one. I personally don't think difference matter much. Book-rank has been using a more logical method to calculate estimates and I will post estimates from book-rank too (if I've them), so you can decide whether or not difference matters.

Normally I use shoseki and oricon numbers together. But for comparison purposes, I will separate them.

Oricon numbers I will post are incomplete. The numbers from oricon top 50 list should be complete but there're numbers out there coming from oricon top 100 and monthly list and for the most part, I don't have them. For this reason, I am using different colors for those two:

red - oricon numbers from Oricon Top 50
pink - oricon numbers from other lists

Oricon
v05 - #47 - 11,126 (6d)

This series has a weird trend, it is hard to know what to expect from this volume's sales. It's moving to Jump Plus, so that could cause some drop in sales. At the moment I am guessing it will do similar to volume 5 in shoseki.
#047 - #066 - #090
Shoseki

v08 - 2019/08 - | 3.3k (03) | 6.3k (10) |

Shoseki Estimates

v02 - 2019/10 - | 2.9k (03) | 5.7k (10) |

v02 - 2019/09 - | 5.1k (05) |
v03 - 2019/12 - | 5.2k (05) |
So for I am guessing:
Mission Family - Low-10s or maybe mid-10s before dropping from shoseki weekly list. Higher than the first volume of Poro no Ryuugaku-ki but not much.
Mitama Security - between 5k and 10k before dropping from shoseki weekly list. No better than the first volume of Spring Weapon No.1

Also some info about first volume sales since 2015

A translation of the tweet above.
Oricon's history? That's since 08, right?

I think other series may have came close to that feat or even passed it. I dont think OP is out of the question even if its peak was after 2008. We will never know I guess.

Hype news for Kimetsu and how fitting to have volume 8 at the top. I cant wait to see what boost the movie will bring in.

Isn't it at more than twice the level of bleach at this point? At this rate it might reach dragon ball/one piece level.
Some series first print numbers to compare with Yaiba

The amount of votes Muichirou and Yushirou have lol.
No surprise for Muchirou since he's one of the few characters are developed. Yushirou is a surprise lol

The lack of votes for Sanemi and Himejima...:emocat

I remain of the idea that Jump and Horikoshi should not apologize, but I hope that Twitter parasites will calm down now.

MHA fanbase looking at the kimetsu phenom
As happy as I am for Kimetsu's success, I won't deny a part of me feels that way. I also think of the MHA-Kimetsu relationship this way: MHA is the Gateway series to new fans, and leads right into Kimetsu.

I honestly do not understand the comparison, My Hero is still one of the most successful series of recent years, Kimetsu instead was one of those surprises that happen once every thousand years ....

I have three questions, guys. The 3 about the same theme.

-Do you guys think there is a Jump policy about one veteran manga taking a break every week? (This week is OP (Haikyuu doesn't count), last week was Neverland, next week is Black Clover, Haikyuu, Hero Academia and Dr.Stone have also had breaks, etc.
-How many issues have we had in last 4 months that had all Jump titles in the roster, with no titles getting breaks?
-Will Jujutsu Kaisen and Act-age (veteran manga already) join this policy?
