Summary and Preview
By the artist of "Welcome to the NHK."
The man who claims to be "Inokashira Yukito" is a professional bodyguard who moonlights as the caretaker of a small shrine in the slums of a Japanese city. However, several years ago, he was one of the top operatives of a Cantonese triad called the Twin Snakes, who escaped from his organization with an ancient alchemical manuscript purported to have been penned by Lao Tsu. Within it was the formula for "Shien Dan" (Sentan) -- a substance that grants humans strange psychic powers at the cost of a reduced lifespan.
As Shien Dan begins circulating as a common drug in the back streets of Yukito's city, a middle school girl named Mahiru appears before him, claiming to be the younger sister of the shrine's missing priestess -- the woman who nursed Yukito back to health when he violently parted ways with his former employer. Noting that the girl is being pursued by the gangsters of Twin Snakes, Yukito agrees to become her bodyguard. It seems that the past he left behind is finally catching up with him ...
Armed only with his combat experience and his expertise in martial arts, can Yukito prevail against inhuman assassins empowered by Shien Dan?
