Re: Tokyo Ghoul by Ishida Sui
Finally catched up with the manga, damn what an ending >____< Kaneki, Yoshimura, Amon, Shinohara.... all the great and likeable characters getting butchered D: I almost cried together with Akira in the last chapter, that was so touching.
In any case, I guess the first three might be alive in some way. Not sure how I feel about Kaneki, but his ending was so tragic. Kind of don't want to see him dead after all the shit he went through, and ofc for Touka's and Hide's sake too. It feels kind of a bit too farfetched, but too many things point at Haise being Kaneki.
If Sasaki is not Kaneki i don't even know. Did anyone see how he froze up when the phrase "Bon appetite" was said? Tell me, that's not inner Kanaki remembering the Gourmet?
That's one sign, yeah. Others would be that Akira mentions Arima feeling "parental love" for Haise. Well Haise questions if he has such a thing afterwards, but obviously the two have a connection. He's even lending him books, which would fit Kaneki's character again.
Maybe the big thing to look out for is what Hide told Touka in their last meeting. Putting his left hand on his chin when he's hiding something:
I've been closely looking for that in the two chapters so far, but I didn't see that move until now.
So seemingly we can speculate that Kaneki's memory was being.. altered somehow, and now he works for CCG. I am not sure if I'd like this direction, considering that the first chapter does not show anything impressive plot-wise, although it seems pretty unreasonable for me to expect that it would start with a bang.
Not sure if you've been following Tokyo Ghoul since the beginning, but the original manga started pretty slow as well. It always had an interesting premise and good characters, but it took Ishida around 20-30 chapters to get the ball rolling. Considering there's less worldbuilding to do this time, it might be a bit faster, but I'm pretty sure he wants to establish the new characters for now, just like what he did in the original Tokyo Ghoul. Nothing wrong with that, it's exactly why I started to care for almost every character in the series. Never thought I could actually like Juuzo, and yet I started to care for him towards the end too. I have faith that Ishida knows what he's doing.
