Meh not fond of the idea. It would make more sense if it's his sons.
If we're going to give any credit to the theory that Mel is part Goddess, then I'm gonna go a step further and say that the Demon King is a fallen Goddess clan member. There's no evidence that the Goddess clan is a female only clan, and you can check my theory about the DK here, and how imo he could represent Lucifer.
Anyway as the Demon king's children they could technically have Goddess blood. Half of it actually. Since Dolor and Gloxinia are able to retain the attributes of their original clan, then it should be the same for the DK, and he should be able to pass it on to his "children".
Also maybe he rebelled after his children were born, so that would make them real Goddess clan members.
In the case of them being the DK's grandchildren, they'd only have a quarter Goddess blood. So their blood would be more "diluted".
Mel's longevity in particular is abnormal, even for demons, so that is why it is thought that he could be a hybrid, with him having a parent from the Goddess clan. I'm simply saying that the Goddess clan member in question could be the Demon King.
Although I don't expect anyone to get on board with this idea, it's more of a crackpot theory so feel free to ignore it. I wouldn't want people to get too worked up about it, and end up "derailing the discussion".
I know we are discussing the demon king and what not... but, has it actually been stated that the demon kingw as sealed wit hthe demon clan?
Someone who could beat Gloxinia and Dolor in a fight, perhaps with no effort, should not have been as afraid of this sealing technique as the others right?
I'm just wondering whether or not the demon clan was sealed away, but, a few demons managed to avoid it... eg, Meliodas (Who was also being targeted) Fraudrin (Thought he got sealed in a weaker one later) and the demon king?

What if the demon king never got sealed by the other 4 clans, is what i'm trying to say! I mean, didn't the coffin of eternal darkness explode?

Pray tell me how is that related to the issue at hand?

Whether he's been caged with the rest or not is not important, we're here to discuss the origin of Mel and whether he's the DK or his grandson.
It's hard to see how the DK can roam free, if he had all of his power on him he would have wiped out humans a long time ago....

Again I find it a bit weird that we would jump a generation and have Mel be his grandson. As for Mel being him, I think it can only work if Estarossa+Mel=Demon King.
It would basically mean that Estarossa and Mel were one being at one point. But maybe through Eli's previous incarnation's efforts he was reformed and his soul divided into two, one that was good (Mel) and one that wasn't (Estarossa).
And it so happens that the good one was able to roam free, while the "bad" one was sealed away.
And both seem to know Eli, so it's not entirely impossible.

It would also explain why the Goddess want him dead. But that's a different subject.

I was only asking a question, really!
I just wanted to know if the demon king might not have been sealed with the rest of the clan as it could be possible he has been plotting for this to happen for centuries?
I'm going to assume for the sake of the plot that he is in fact inside of that seal though, as it would make more sense. I'd also like to add that the commandments just sort of left it lying around in a ravine XD

Either way, the idea that Mel/Esta were once the same person is a highly talked about theory, although it does seem to have very little to base itself off of right now. If he was converetd in this manner, then it would mean that Elizabeth quite literally purged the evil from him... but, here is my one issue with that!
the marks on the heads of the other two brothers seem to match up, whilst Meliodas's is on the opposite side... now, unless Meliodas had two, i would ask the question of, did he have both sides covered with the same symbol, did he even have two to begin with and if he only had one, which side was it on?

Based on the symbol of his demon mark being that of eternal energy and mainly being in that book Fraudrin was interested in... it could be that his family line has a lot of untold history that will be revealed to us later on.
Also, considering that all of the sins seem to have been getting 2 backstories... i'm convinced that King is gonna get another backstory soon and it will focus on his rule as king before he left (Like with meeting Gerharde and stuff) and then we might get Gowther's Gaiden, giving us some info on the war 3000 years ago. After that, we get to the relevant bit, and we'll probably get Meliodas's 2nd backstory with what happened 3000 years ago and everything pertaining to it, which will hopefully include this topic!

If the demon army/king is revived in this arc and plays a role in it... i could see Meliodas's entire past/backstory being revealed at the end of this arc, or the beginning of the next. I mean... i'm sort of sensing that Merlin/Escanor are going to have theirs later on in the third one.

In lights of the recent developments with Gloxinia and Dolor being revealed as former clan members of the other humanoid races I have once again begun to wonder what the demon clan actually is (and by extension, Meliodas).

They seem to originate from a different realm (kinda like the goddesses?). They can possess and swap bodies.

So what if the Commandments are merely a group of elite individuals of various other species that serve as hosts for the demons' spirits?

Dolor - the first giant
Gloxinia - the first fairy king
(Gowther - not sure if his doll body was the original one but then let's just say he's a construct)
Galan - also possibly a construct (seriously, the guy is a walking, talking suit of armor)
Merascylla - ???
Graylord/Grayroad - wtf, no idea. The very first demon?
Monspiet - a former vampire king?
Derrierrie - a beast-woman? (like Zhivago?)

And now this brings us to Meliodas, Zeldris and Estarossa - three siblings of a human family that lived more than 3.000 years ago and were possessed.

Yeah, I have absolutely zero proof. Which is why it is fun speculating about this sort of thing. It's definitely not impossible. =P

As for the demon king... he's gonna be occupying the biological father of that human sibling trio :D

I am not sure the goddesses originate from a different realm... Has that been said? As far as other realms go we know there is the fairy world where the actual sacred tree is located at but I don't think we have heard of a goddess realm yet. All we know is that for some reason the goddess clan does not seem to have physical bodies...

IIRC, the goddess talking to Ban through the horn of Cernunnos said they currently cannot take physical form. So they have to be somewhere where they can exist in their spiritual form or whatever, right?

I am not so sure. If they don't have physical forms then they don't really need a place to exist as they are not occupying space. Even if they are wandering around as ghosts or something, they don't necessarily need a different world altogether for it. I guess the question would be what their original residence was... And if they still occupy it in their current forms.

That's what the horn of Cernunnos is for communication with the goddess in their realm.

Don't forget the demon realm, or hell, since Cure Angel comes from there

This still makes me laugh, especially the are you a man bit.XD
Anyway it's entirely possible for the Goddess clan to have their own realm.

Well, if the realm has been mentioned in the manga then it definitely is a thing. I just don't remember the world realm being used.

I think Ban mentions to King just before Vivian kidnaps Elisabeth. I know that's it is mentioned in the manga about the goddess having their own realm like the demon clan.

Well, I thought with Gloxinia and Dolor, they're kind of like reactors. While meliodas and his brothers are born demons.
About the realm thing, it is possible because it was mentioned a few times in the manga

That's totally legit. Mama Hawk could eat Monspiet's fire bird after all, so once Hawk gets all fattened up he'll resume being the DK and use his kirby powers to rule the world after he had a taste of every living creature!

Gotta taste them all. :verily

But seriously, I remember the anime having a poster with something that closely ressembled Mama Hawk fighting on the demons' side, so it could be that there is a race of hell boars. That could explain why Mama Hawk ate the bird.

It's really interesting how the topic changes from Meliodas and the Demon King to Hawk and his mother...

Just a reminder - please keep it linked to the original topic before we fall prey to the greatness of the two pigs.
What has been posted until now is okay, though.

Aye...

Well since Mel pretty much confirmed that he fought the demon king along with Dolor and Gloxinia, then that pretty much answers the question, that he's not the demon king. But he could be related to him. I don't think the grandson would work too well, also I'm not sure how that would fit in in terms of timeline, since the DK should have been around during the war, and Mel was already active back then, so I don't think there is such a big generational gap between Mel and the DK,in terms of years. The giants were the first of the 5 clans to inhabit Britannia, so the other clans should have appeared later. And I think the demons and goddesses appeared around the same time, actually I think the demons broke from the Goddess clan or to be more precise, the DK did.So since Mel is more than 3000 years old I don't think there is enough time to see two generations of demons before him, before they broke out from the Goddess clan.

So right now I'm going with him being his son instead of grandson, and it would fit better with the rebellious son theme, instead of the rebellious grandson...

Yes, Meliodas being a son of the DK really make sense. Zeldris being an other too, since he leads the TC

Ridiculous plot twist - it takes Meliodas, Zeldris and Estarossa to form the demon king. The dominant personality traits of these characters form the king's character. :derp

Yeah that one was floating around for a while, but it's more likely it's just Mel+Estarossa because of the birthday thing.

Zeldris has a different birthday date than Mel. :)

Are we sure he leads them? It does look like he cares more about things than Estarossa. Maybe they don't have a leader, or it's Estarossa.:hmm

It could be just like with Mel and the sins, the leader isn't always the one with the serious attitude.

Mel and estarrosa share a birthday? That is new to me lol.

My crackpot theory is that the demon king is actually the 10 commandments within each demon. Basically the demon king split himself and his power across the 10 commandments as both the means to control them and give them power to destroy their enemies. Of course, merely defeating a commandment is probably not enough to destroy the demon king.

I think zeldris is the leader of the commandments in the same way meliodas is the leader of the sins. Mel has only questionable and certainly irregular authority over the sins after all. And you have escanor who is a presumably greater powerhouse among them and also merlin who does not hesitate to take a leadership role among the sins if the situation calls for it. We saw how zeldris could not simply order galan not to go to camelot for instance a while back for instance.
