Exactly what I was thinking. People read reviews to consider different viewpoints and help shape their own opinions and having only one review to represent the overall opinion of the community leaves other points of view unexplored and unrepresented.
For now it's 'first in best dressed' because that's how I've been instructed. I assume this way is simplest, and easiest to manage for the moderators. The emphasis on 'first in' has the drawback of potential rushed reviews, but it also gets the article out quicker - since this is a weekly manga, a review is most relevant while the reviewed chapter is the current one. I'm not sure how youtube reviewers do it, but I assume they try to get them out ASAP.
I think the current way is fair; but like any method there are pros and cons. With feedback within this section over the course of the next few chapters, I'm sure it can be worked out so that it runs the best way possible. My own recommendation (should there be a lot of people interested in writing one) is to do reviews by self-nomination, so that people who have the time can write it, and so that many people get the chance to write one.
I think more than 1 review is needed to satisfy all but it should be limited to 3 or 5 reviews per chapter. So when a guest or a member actually read the reviews he/she will find variety of aspects.
Only 1 review can be posted to the front page, however people are free to write reviews after that if they want to. The thread remains open because of this.
Yeah certainly too many threads may look silly and especially if it's several ones with different restrictions. The best way i think is to have the one Brandish posted be for people who want to post reviews under those guidelines, or do it the way Doughboy said and make it a selected person so people do not waste time.
As for longer posts/reviews in the chapter discussion, i can only speak for myself in that i do decently long posts for each chapter for FT. I am personally fine with them either getting discussion or not, either way is fine for me as i don't do them officially or expect anything from them other than my enjoyment in writing them. Others also do long posts though so they would have to say how much that means to them as well.
I'm not for the idea of selected person. I'm sure people who want to write reviews won't be happy with this if only one person can get his/her own thread or attention.
How do the others feel? Still, it'd feel good to get rewarded somehow for the thought and time you put into your posts, no?
Perhaps we can randomly pick who is doing the review a few days before they actually write it. That way, the people who don't get selected won't have to put in unnecessary effort. The person who gets selected would know a few days in advance that they will be the one writing the review. Of course, only people who are interested in writing the review will be selected.
Of course, when I start thinking about the logistics of what must be done to achieve a system like this, the "first comes first serve" idea becomes more and more appealing. Altogether, this is not too large of an issue. I don't put too much emphasis on reading reviews, as I enjoy discussing things with people in the chapter discussion threads. ^.^
Not a fan of this idea because it makes it feel like work instead of fun. I had an explanation for this, but I forgot because multitasking ftw! But yeah, preselecting one person doesn't sound like a good idea or fun. First come first serve is a bad idea because it's more about rushing than fun and getting thoughts out there.
I was thinking about making a section for chapter reviews, but that is a pretty bad idea.
Yeah even if the current way is flawed from the stuff pointed out it does supersede the cons of the other methods. Especially since FT is a weekly manga so it would just be the first come, best dressed cause I would want to read it before spoilers drop. I personally like only having one review (the one posted on the main page) to read and would really only read that review that's posted in the thread and not 5 other peoples, ain't nobody got time for that lol. I just don't wanna see that thread cluttered with hella reviews in my opinion of the same chapter even if told in different perspectives because if I wanted to look back on old review threads to understand a specific part better I wouldn't want to scour through the best review out of 5-6 of them. The main one isn't a consensus but it's better for cataloging. Rather we just keep the current for now, the picking of the one who does the reviews after wanting to do it is really the only issue which could be solved easily.

So there is a chance to write more reviews regarding this chapter, good. But A direct link to the review thread through the front page will suffice no need to choose 1 review only.
Well, once again long since I came here..Oh well, let's see.First of all, a very good review @Belserion ...I liked it but I disagree on NaLu point but it is ur view and I respect that.
Yeah certainly too many threads may look silly and especially if it's several ones with different restrictions. Same man, I do it for fun as well. So, this post of urs is a bit different from ur previous post where u said it is bad to make other do reviews and then not post them......So, I do understand that u and I do it for fun and don't care but there are a lot others that do.Well, DOUGH's method clearly invites war and skirmish and I think we have enough already on chapter's thread. So, I fully decline his method of selecting and sticking to that. It is not SURVIVAL of FITTEST here , is it now ?

Yep, I agree here. Not a selected person but different persons everytime and as for figuring out which to post or how many to pot , I will explain that later on.

OK , this is ur personal opinion and I respect tht..Bur , how does this supersede other methods and which methods...Please explain. The way I see it is this is nothing but invitation of chaos and fights for future. As for other people u mentioned, no one has time for that...But , u do understand the simple fact that FT fandom here is huge and just a single opinion on a single thing varies from one person to another...People who liked certain panel but reviewer has his own point will surely look for other which satisfies their taste...As for consensus and cataloging , not even a single rule has been stated how it will be selected, what contents are to be looked or what r the methods for selection ............
Ur above written thing basically looks u r suggesting people to ditch the thread and don't read it or say it if u don't like and making it seem others are less relevant.
And no issue in FT until now has been solved easily.....I have been for quite sometime and it is very easily seen that no issue has ever been resolved easily....or rather some are not even solved at all... For example - If it was that easy, we would not require notices again and again , now do we ?

Simple thing I perceive from above is u r powerless for now as u have been instructed (by Blues or reds) to do so.... and other thing is JOB SATISFACTION and easiness for mods and not people...If u had posted this in the beginning , no one even would have begun argument as we do know there are things which are within and out of ur limits.
Now as for rules :- I think for reviews , it is like this.
"For reviews that should be pretty intuitive: someone (regardless of whether it's a regular members or a staff member) posts a review, if it's good we're going to contact the creator and get their consent to post the review on the front page. The earlier a chapter review is posted after a chapter's release, the better (obviously). Also, we're not promoting a chapter review if the following chapter has already been released since discussion will have moved on by that point. That restriction does not apply to volume or series reviews though, those are fair game at any time. Finally, if more than one person posts a review, the first one will be featured on the front page and any others will be edited into the post of the first review as links. "
Cons of this :-
From above, The ones deciding..What are the rules ? Intuitive to one is opposite for other. So, when there are 2 characters fighting/......especially FT, there are people who are on both sides ....and naturally the chosen one will have bias towards the characters they support. So, in those conditions, how and which will be chosen and as u know , the people in FT section are most.. The reviews essentially are creating wars in there....It is already enough with these threads.. So, basically, that is what I want to say.
The lack of no proper methods, no proper decision, and lack of any specific path will turn this in to more troublesome things in future.
My suggestions :-
1) Select the no of reviews as per the content of chapter or its respective spoilers.See both conflict are seen in actuality context and includes satisfaction of both sides.
For example - This chapter was just a single panel and we have skirmish..So, in future, there are many more like END, ACNO, GRAY etc and it will be worse when there will be GRAY vs END or some other things.
So, reviewers will have their own stand on such characters. So, for that time, select 2 which satisfy both sides ...I mean which includes context from both perspective because even without reviews , it is salty enough to create skirmish and fights. This will only add fuel to fire...
So, basically, I m suggesting, select as per chapter's needs and see both conflicting parties have their own one which they want to read or can be satisfied with. This can reduce fire as well as maintain harmony between 2 or more conflicting issues....
2) Reviewers will be free to write their views . No need to hold back........
3) As for selection, MODS can decide how much are required and which 1 or 2 may include all aspects as well as see to the needs of FT fandom...U have been modding for a while . I entrust that to mods wisdom.
4) Give time limit within which they have to be posted...MODS will consider the reviews within time limit and decide from those which best describes and also satisfies conflicts.......The rest can post and they will be kept as archived...
CONS ;-
1) MODS duties will increase..Oh well, their duty and things are already increased by the way it is going and it will go..So,not much difference anyways with these system too.......
Well, this is for future reference because , the way @Brandish says, he is currently unable to do anything and this method, if continued in future is surely going to cause a lot of skirmish and fights.....So , at that time, they will have 2 options
1) Change method somehow or make little improvement in existing one
2) Give notices of greens, blues as well as reds, followed by deletion of messages and bans...basically a concentration camp following.
Oh well, this is what I think..
And @Aizen , man, I also think some likes to put panels..and by mentioning that u were referring to me.Thank u for taking me in to consideration, bro but MEH, I am not much interested in making or asking them to change that as they already have issues with current method already. We both do it for fun.We r least interested in other things.
I already have other home FF .. If u get bored out here, come there.

True. It's just my view that having alot of reviews might detract from the main person's whose was nominated. I really enjoyed reading bel's review even if I didn't agree on a part or two with her. That's perfectly fine and the way I think it should be. If Raven or Brandish wrote the review who would of put a more critical take on Irene's backstory and was more crowd pleasing towards the nalu scene would that take anything away from it being a great review if it followed the format stated and was appropriately done like Bel's? No it wouldn't. With different reviewers comes with different views and takes on things, it's fine to have more than one review but I think we should just take that L and let the nominated/chosen reviewer for that chapter have the floor to express what/how they took in the chapter in their own perspective. Having many reviews of the same chapter when there is already a chapter discussion thread to me is sorta pointless.

Well, I enjoyed BEl's review as well and I clearly stated what I disagree with her on a point .Well, ur view of perfectly fine is doing nothing but inviting more wars and skirmishes and more bashing and bans....Then hell yeah, it is perfectly fine...
That is why I suggested to choose best and one which includes and take both fandoms in to consideration...And this is for future reference as well. As for this chapter, it was just a scene.Further, there are more fights and a lot to come...And crowd pleasing is not a word used to describe it..It is said consideration of both sides....because same thing currently of process selection as u stated above I can say it BIAS in counter of ur crowd pleasing....And reviews selection and how to be done is what I already told above. So, I won't be repeating it again here.
So, what r the rules for selection? We already have issues with all of those. I already stated that above .. Pros and cons both.
By ur logic of pointless , then that whole thread seems pointless. We have chapters thread.Let's do it there..Why shld we even discuss in chapters thread that this happened and these shld not have happened....pointless, isn't it ? They already have happened , accept it.... Also, a few other things become pointless as well
Oh well, no hard feelings mate , but I disagree with u completely as ur method seems to only invite skirmish and war. So, let's agree to disagree.

Very good post lakhan dude, All of this fight in the chapter discussion and the current review for only 2 panels imagine if we had END vs Gray as you said. Ofc many arguemnts will ignite no body wants that and it will be a dark week for MH. Cuz no one will stop posting and everyone will be annoyed. So one review representing the whole MH members isn't recommended.

Btw i'm okay with Irene. I think i said why i'm not okay with Irene with the current review because the review served one party only. Like when you choosed to criticize something and leave something more criticizable untouched. That being said, I'm very biased that's true but i will put in my consideration everyone not just one party. I will say "That many see this moment as fan service and degrading to both characters and i respect that but imo it's has nothing to do with fan service more likely Lucy tries what she can to save Natsu's life" Not "Lucy is zomg loving Natsu she removed her clothes to jump on his body, It's very lovely moment" and it's equivalent to current one but in an opposite way, Both are cringe worthy and forcing, Don't you think?

I don't like this thought honestly, it's just that she really didn't side with any party. She listed what occurred in that scene, posted the reasons and explained how she took it, then mentioned the true purpose of it, which is exactly how it should be done. She didn't repeatedly bash either character or the scene itself. Of course, this is where you saw her personal opinion on the scene but the whole comment was pretty much just objectively stated. But as said above no review is purely objective. People act like belserion will be making them every week, it's already been said that won't happen unless no one offers to do them. What I do agree though is not add anything like "borderline ******" or words that might set people off. Saying "pro/anti" is similar much but to a much smaller degree and that's fine to me. All this is fair to bring up but even with those words she cleanly and clearly explained how took the scene, which is what a review should do. A review isn't a review if isn't told in the eyes of the reviewer, right?
So there is a chance to write more reviews regarding this chapter, good. But A direct link to the review thread through the front page will suffice no need to choose 1 review only.

I assume this way is simplest, and easiest to manage for the moderators. The emphasis on 'first in' has the drawback of potential rushed reviews, but it also gets the article out quicker - since this is a weekly manga, a review is most relevant while the reviewed chapter is the current one.
@ Bold - This is not what I was told, but rather my guess. @ Underlined - this point is also an assumption, but is not related to mod logistics. Both bold/underlined are a fair assessment for 'why it's first in best dressed'. Right now the reviews are working as provided in the Reviews thread. If there is overwhelming feedback or it isn't working then changes might be made. You are correct about my position with this, I am a mere messenger, and I'm not going to change anything without instructions.

To be honest, if people can be mature enough to accept and respect others likes and dislikes - then that should be enough. I mean reviews aren't consensuses are they? The forum rules and etiquette apply to the reviews, and imo that's enough to keep the reviews in check (ie character bashing, fandom bashing etc).
On trying to even out bias - I think having more different people do reviews (1 each week though) can even it out... well law of large numbers would suggest so.
I get it, there's a bit of uncertainty and indecision... but just how complicated of a task is this? Things of this nature can sort themselves out... I mean there isn't much on the line here tbh, it'll reach a point of homeostasis where most people are happy.
I agree with this. Heck the novelty might wear off and no one will want to do one. Right now this discussion is possibly an overreaction because things are a bit uncertain, but should work out lol.
Yeah lakhan might as well agree to disagree cause I don't agree lol.

She did sided those who hate the ship, She did sided those who think like her. She wasn't fair enough regarding this moment, She bashed the moment in 4 or 3 lines. She wasn't as objective as you said, should i say more?
I don't mind who will do the reviews unless he did in unacceptable manner that can create more negativity and toxicity for other members.
No lol i said why million times earlier. At least balance, do something that all can agree on. It isn't that hard. Actually it an insult to see this review and hush without giving feedback without being protective to my opinion.

My last post regarding this review arguments. 1 review shouldn't represent us as one package, The front page with a direct link to the review thread is the best way to solve this problem. Everyone can make his review regrading the chapter.
Oh well, then I stand corrected. For now, no changes will be made and I clearly said it was for future reference.,That is why I suggested a multiple selection along with the context of inclusive points, its pros and cons and also the method of selection..Because, it will turn into a war.....
Now now , no need to call urself mere ...U r the GOD MESSENGER sent by RED ....Was it Daddy Gary? I never will believe assuming if u say it was him
To be honest, if people can be mature enough to accept and respect others likes and dislikes - then that should be enough. I mean reviews aren't consensuses are they? The forum rules and etiquette apply to the reviews, and imo that's enough to keep the reviews in check (ie character bashing, fandom bashing etc).
Seriously now ? U have been mod for ages and u r saying if people can be mature , respect and such things, It never will happen as long as there are characters which people prefer and like and have their own stand....So, honestly how do u wish a review of fight be done ? Oh well, I already stated above my reasons because it will be more in future.
Naah, u r very wrong if u even assume it will reach homeostatis....This is same as NARUTO and SASUKE mate....Fights even ensue after series completion.
I agree with this. Heck the novelty might wear off and no one will want to do one. Right now this discussion is possibly an overreaction because things are a bit uncertain, but should work out lol.
Well, it might wear off in far future.. When FT is over ? Over-reaction ? Well, let it stay for a while.
In general,
And to be very clear, I already stated above, I liked @Belserion review and I agree with her except the NaLu part and the thing of relevancy.....and I respect her view. People can take stand on different points. They r free to express what they felt like. Reviews shld be done in that way. That is what is called freedom And I want that to stand at any cost. Else, there won't be any difference between people and machines.
As for my side, I clearly state what I like and what I don't. I assume people at least know that much because neither am I a crowd pleaser nor the one who would agree to everything... I have my own views and I like to keep some of them in open...This whole time, I have questioned the future process and what to do imo in order to control things going out of way.
I said this because the 2 panels and this is a point where u r all discussing for 3 last pages....And all this time,I have questioned the future process taking in to consideration the effect of one panel and the future has more panels which will be a lot more debatable which will turn threads to shit and only bashing .
And, this is all.. I believe in ur words u said above,....Changes might be made if it does not work out......Still that "might" makes me wonder the actuality of ur claim a bit.. Oh well, trusting u and let's see what happens....
P.S. - I personally like a bit of salt and wars.See, after long time, something interested me to take part...I hope @Brandish something more interesting like this may come in future......
TELL ME WHAT EVERYONE CHOSE AS MY NEW NAME IN SHEEP ?
Well well well, here's a change for you... @Debonair Raven also...
We will link in subsequent reviews, but the first one (that meets criteria of course) will be displayed in full. So if you want to make another review you can, and I will link it (or another mod will).
In my opinion, I think changing the way the "Review thread" is being currently handled is a bit unnecessary at the moment. The original concept of this idea was the most beneficial and efficient for the community...
Making constant changes such as these will open up more room for errors and miscalculations in the future. Keeping it as simple as possible will assure that the system will continue to function smoothly and properly.
We've honestly been only one week in, and I am voting to keep it static for now and see how it works as more chapters are released.
There is no reason to rush in perfecting the idea. We need to give the system time to adjust accordingly and naturally.
Apart from that, I do want to outline a few things:
1.) I don't know where people got the idea that the review on the homepage is representative of the Fairy Tail community.. This is an inaccurate and false representation of the original concept.
The review on the homepage is called the "Featured Review". In other words, it is just a single perspective on the latest chapter by a fellow member.
By no means is an "absolute" or overall consensus of opinions by the majority here. It is not showcasing what the FT fanbase has to offer, instead, it is a mere interpretation.
So, I actually don't see the point in putting links to everybody else's reviews...That defeats the purpose of a "Featured Review". Might as well just read all the reviews in the regular chapter discussion/prediction thread, to be perfectly honest.
2.) The way the review is chosen seems to be the main subject of debate. Although I don't mind the way it is now (first come, first serve), it seems many people despise it because of the "wasted effort that they put into the review".
First and foremost, a review should be something that a fan is passionate about... but I do understand that it is time-consuming to create a high-quality review.
Here is Nemispelled's proposed idea to resolve this issue:
Therefore, I am open to the idea where people who wish for their review to be featured, will PM a mod a few days in advance before the chapter is released.
From there, the mods would pick their frontline reviewer (first choice basically) for that week, as well as 2 or 3 back-up reviewers in the event that the "frontline reviewer" cannot make it unexpectedly that week or ran out of time in creating one...
Or maybe the frontline reviewer who PMs a mod is a troll and didn't make a serious review, which in that case, the post would be disqualified, and the mods would move on to the next back-up reviewer..
This way, we assure everybody there is no bias or surprises in picking the reviewer. Additionally, people get preparation time in advance, that way nobody wastes time creating a high-quality review.
I am, however, AGAINST the idea of the polling options.
That concept will burn out fast because it is just way too time consuming for it to be prepared each week. You would have to set a time period for the polling to take place and then the chosen reviewer would need a fair amount of time in advance to create his/her post.
By that time, people will already be talking about next chapter.
3.) Last but not least, coming from somebody like me, I highly suggest nobody feels the need to rush this or turn this whole thing into a competition. That will deteriorate the concept quickly and in a negative way.
Know and understand that there are plenty of chances for everybody to get their review featured in the future. We are talking about weeks upon weeks worth of chapters.
Surely, everybody's voice will be heard. But patience is imperative in this process.
And if your review is not featured for a specific week, then make use of the actual chapter discussion/prediction thread. Because some of us actually spend time to read your posts in that thread...

I want you to point out how that one review will meet the criteria? ( I hope it will be satisfyable to all ppl) also why we can't add some panels not a whole page while reviewing i think it's needed
What about this chapter can i make my review and post it in the review thread?
Preferably text-only. The review should be able to stand on it's own without panels. That said, if a panel or 2 seem essential, then add it. But it's quite possible they get omitted, so the review needs to be understandable without them.
And yes - another review(s) can be made. They'll get linked at the bottom I believe.

I think there could be some panel limit that Author can put in spoiler tag from this chapter or earlier just to show visually readers some parallels etc. and make his point of view more interesting and sometimes more easy to understand :P
The more interesting review get than better and using 2/3 panels wisely can do that also << I'm not talking about putting random panels that would bring nothing but confusion...
