You gotta differentiate between a few things here. The GOP lawmakers and not the same kind of people as deranged Trump voters.
You can reason perfectly well with most conservative politicians behind closed doors without cameras. You can definitely create a situation where most of the GOP lawmakers are fine with you and support what you do by nonaction (letting it happen). Even if they go in front of a camera and tell everyone what a radical leftist you are, that is a far more beneficial situation than having them actually want to obstruct you with all they got.

That is not appeasement, that is a tactical situation. You have some things they want, they have some things you want and you can create a situation where business runs smoothly or you can create a situation where you are in active struggle.

A Biden administration which can win some important votes by having people like murkowski, sasse or romney voting with them if Manchin wont and who is a less easy target for claims of radicalism from the rightextremists will get farther in pushing leftist policies than a Biden government who takes virtue signalling stances that are popular in california but loses grip in the midterms.

What is the point of differentiating between GOP lawmakers and deranged Trump supports when the former exploits the latter and will continue to do so even after Trump is out of office? The effect, the rhetoric is still the same, whether they act in a cynical way or not. 147 GOP Congressmen objected to the election results, and 197 Congressmen objected to his second impeachment.

What exactly are the virtue signaling stances that Biden could reasonably take though? Murkowski, Sasse, and Romney are not going to vote with Biden's initiatives all of sudden. They're still Republicans.

It IS an issue of Obama that he was unable to strike deals with the republicans. Deals are not about niceties, deals are about finding some consensus that is mutually beneficial.
Obama was often not able to do that with republican lawmakers, governors or other relevant figures. And Biden is a different person than that. For example, without any niceties, if you understand how someone ticks you can convince a republican lawmaker who is on edge that a decision will be beneficial for his reelection. If your pitch is clearly better than mc connel's and the guy actually is not a fan of the policy, that can work. Not because he likes you, but because you found something to hook him with. Obama was never a person who could deal with stuff like that (with the human side of it).

Seeing the republicans and their voters as a block of people who works outside of the human psychology is ill advised. Yes, a lot of republicans are downright fascists, more of their voters are. We don't need to repeat that over and over, you know that, i know that. Still, you need to deal with them. Nothing changes that. And right now, the republican party is on the fence.

If they purge themselves off Trump, a third of their voters and possibly lawmakers will be gone. That will break the party in half.
If they don't purge Trump, the same might happen with moderates who will not vote them anymore or break away from them (and it is insane).

So their decision right now is that singled out voices say Trump is not a good guy but the reaction is overblown so they both cater to trump fans and assure moderate that they are not completely crazy. The democrats can influence that reaction. The democrats can force them to stop this 'i endorse trump and also dont endorse him' kind of position if they play their cards right.
But just seeing the republican party as enemy and not as a potential partner that can be convinced to do something more beneficial to the democrats than they are doing now would not be productive. It might make it impossible to get the country back on track.

But the reason Obama couldn't get deals was not related to his deal making ability or niceties or inability to throw olive branches. The GOP simply didn't want to make deals or concessions with obama. So they didn't. Even when obama nominated a someone for the supreme court you had republicans campaigning on doing everything in their power to not fill that position until there was a republican president to nominate someone. You can't extend a hand to someone who will cut off the hand the minute it's extended...

So... you think biden can bamboozle republicans? setting aside the sheer absurdity of that, how is it even a good thing?

Welp, but republican party members aren't exactly out to get trump. granted that some are and there is a chance of a miracle conviction in the senate...

You really need to take a trip to the states, see the sights, run into a random football field sized confederate flag and see if that is how you feel about these lunatics...

It's obviously not what the founders intended. If he was afraid of charges, he would have resigned with the stipulation that Pence would pardon him, but he didn't. He'd be stupid enough to avoid it because it would be an admission of guilt.

I mean, you can clearly see that Romney did not always vote with trump. Yes, the republican party also likes to play the game of 'we have some opposing voices but enough votes to still pass it'. but that is different in a 50/50 senate. More republicans would be compelled in such a senate to vote against party line (counterintuitively) because that game from before cannot be played anymore and thus there is less planning involved.

It's not different, they'd still vote with party line and continue to be as partisan and divisive as ever. I think you're underestimating just how shitty Republicans are, or you're purposely playing it down for the same shitty reasons liberals are.

Ya know... pardons only permit people to escape "legal" means of punishment. We don't have to be okay with these people getting away scott free for whatever crimes they're about to be free of, but we can still hold them accountable in other ways.
