I strongly agree that 4 Yonko's together would certainly win but against WB alone Marines had not much of a problem. The Marines were pushed mainly because of Luffy. Luffy brought some strong members from Impel Down with him who helped WB. Marco was cuffed with sea stones but because of Mr 3 he continued otherwise he would have been :pwned. It's because of Luffy that Ace was able to escape. If it was anyone else apart from Luffy then Garp the Fist would have fisted them cleanly. Oh, I don't need to tell you that because you can clearly see what happened to Marco the Phoenix. Even though Luffy was a nobody in the war he certainly did change the momentum of the war.

Marines were missing 1 of the Shichibukai: Marshall D Teach. Not only that he turned against the Marines as well and WB too.

When people say that Marines were pushed into a corner I clearly do not understand because Aokiji and Kizaru were practically sleeping during the war. They took no damage! Even though Akainu was broken by WB he still fought all of the Commanders + Crocodile with him getting no damage. Before that he defeated Ivankov as well. So if he could do that then the other Admirals could do that as well.

How about people like Inurashi and Nekomamushi? I know they were pirates before but I am just proving to you that Kyros is not the strongest right now. Later on we might find islands which contains people with close to admiral strength. We never know. Still I am very surprised to how the Marines got 2 admirals out of nowhere. In the war we never saw them so where did these 2 appear from? Doflamingo described these 2 as real monsters as well.
Hmm were was this stated? Inuarashi only said he sailed in the past, and I'm not even sure Nekomamushi was with him when he met Shanks .

I think the whole issue of the WG is that they can only face one Yonko at a time. If we take WB, his crew might not have been as strong as we thought initially. Marco, Jozu and all those guys might not be as strong as we thought back then, if we compare them to the likes of Jack .Guy fought 5 days straight. That's really something. Also when we're talking about the Yonko, we have to take into consideration their allies, although those for the most part aren't supposed to be as strong as division commanders. And if Luffy's example is any indication, each Yonko must have thousands of allies, on top of their own crew who can be numbered in hundreds.
If we look at the performance of the likes of Aokiji he was mostly unhurt during the war, but the problem is there simply wasn't a fighter there who could challenge him. Not even Jozu could do anything to him, in fact he lost an arm to him. Kizaru was mostly fooling around, but if we look at his reaction to Benn Beckman then clearly he was being cautious. And finally Akainu got his ass kicked by WB, and if we look at it he was the strongest of the three admirals. Simply because Magma is stronger than Ice, that is why I think Akainu won his battle against Aokiji, but not without withstanding a few injuries himself.

So in conclusion the WG relies heavily on the Admirals, if we look at the Shichibukai they were also fooling around.I doubt CP is really fitted for a war, but even then I don't think their strongest fighter is anywhere close to admiral level.Lucci wasn't admiral level when Luffy fought him for example(not saying that Lucci is CP's strongest fighter). And one more thing the WG used tricks to bring down WB, who was already weakened and past his prime. If it weren't for that, they would have definitely had a harder time. And it can be said they sustained quite a few losses, despite all their preparation. The best proof of that is the fact they held a "world conscription" meaning they had to recruit more people in the Marines to replace those who died, and those who left (Aokiji mostly but also Akainu since he became Fleet Admiral instead of Sengoku). And they would have continued to do so since the WB pirates were still willing to fight.

But again if 4 Yonko were for once to ally their forces, I doubt the WG could still win .No in fact I see them losing. They didn't want to face Shanks, because fighting another Yonko and his crew while they were already injured and exhausted simply isn't possible.

Luffy certainly managed to influence the course of the war but that does not change that the whole thing was prepared by the marines. The war was an uphill battle for the pirates from the very start, they were the ones dealing with the marines traps. The marines prepared extensively for the war and the preparation proved effective. Just of the get go the marines had hidden walls that could even resist WBs attacks and kept them trapped for attacks from artillery or the admirals. So yes, the marines were superior overall but we can't ignore that they were the ones who had prepared the whole thing. And even then sengoku made the point that they were not necessarily the ones that were going to win. Without the extensive preparations the marines took they would have certainly suffered much more during such a confrontation.

As far as aokiji and kizaru, I don't think they were necessarily sleeping. In context what we saw of the war was basically the most important parts. But that doesn't mean they were the only things going on. The war had thousands of people and was fought on multiple fronts. For instance, we saw only a few panels of the pacifista doing stuff but that does not mean they were doing nothing the rest of the time. With that in mind it is a surprisingly reasonable assumption that the admirals were probably busy most of the time either leading or attacking other places when they weren't in the manga spotlight. Everything considered, we probably saw very little of the war.

Would they be readily available for the marines to draft? I am not sure the minkmen are even affiliated to the world government. They were attacked by kaido's crew for 5 days and were left half dead for 2 and even then not a single marine showed up. The minkmen have the single strongest military we have seen from a local government but at least so far the manga has not evidenced them being a part of the world government. Even if they were, there are no guarantees that the marines can just draft their strongest fighters on a whim. Sure, it would bolster the marines but in turn the local governments would take a huge blow to their strength. Can you imagine the marines recruiting kyros to be a VA or something? Dressrosa would instantly loose the vast majority of it's military power. So arbitrarily taking from local governments is not necessarily in the best interest of the marines.

As far as the dog and the cat being stronger than kyros, I think it is debatable at this point. Just look at the circumstances under which they fought jack. 5 days straight, with alternating armies for the day and night. Each time they switched kaido had to fight an army which was probably pretty close to it's full strength. In context jack holds a position comparable to that of marco or jozu so it makes sense his strength would be comparable to theirs or an admiral. So if the mink fought with such overwhelmingly favorable conditions and still did not manage to win. Kaido did end up resorting to the bomb but it was him who fought literally without rest during that time. With that in mind I don't think the dog and cat are necessarily stronger than kyros. Of course, the way strength in the manga works it also leaves a reasonable margin for them to be well stronger than him as well.

As far as fighting 5 days, I think the circumstances matter a lot for this. I would argue that most of the really strong people around could pull this off given the right circumstances. Jack fought for 5 days which is a testament to his strength but that also probably means that the enemies he was fighting were probably not quite in his league. Akainu and aokiji fought for 10 days but they fought alone on roughly even conditions. Under different circumstances things might have been different as well.

As far as jozu goes, the issue here was him dropping his guard. As far as we can tell it is literally the only reason aokiji managed to get the uperhand that quickly. Before that there is no evidence that jozu wasn't holding his own perfectly well against the admiral. He didn't seem particularly hurt or tired, at least immediately before aokiji got to him. If aokiji didn't luck out the result might as well have been completely different.

Yeah overall the WB pirates were distracted a few times which resulted in them getting hurt. The Marines managed to get the upper hand because of how well prepared they were, and because they came with a real battle plan. They used for example the abilities of Aokiji and Akainu to stop the pirates from advancing. But the sheer amount of forces that the 4 Yonko could have is prolly vastly superior to those of the WG, even if they used all their forces as well. But this prolly won't ever happen, since the Yonko aren't likely to ally with each other. So we prolly will never know for sure if they would win, unless Oda has something like that in store for the final war.And Luffy is somehow bound to be at the center of it.

I think many people here are mistaking the marines for the WG. Right now we can only speculate, but I think it would be an epic battle with some kind of slight edge towards the WG. Doflamingo said one of the most important sentences of the entire manga, when he told Luffy that he has knowledge of the holy secret inside Mariejois, which would shock and shake the entire world if it became puplic. So I think there is definetely more to the actual rulers of the world (mind, we barely saw anything of them yet) than we know. I would bet the true ruler(s) of the world and the shocking secret will be revealed rather late and it will be the final battle of the manga (after Luffy already became pirate king and defeated Blackbeard) because that's just how mangas work. in fact it would be pretty weird if there wasn't something spectacular or insanely shocking to the WG, because no organisation can rule the world for that long, without being superior to all the other threats. It simply doesn't happen.

Actually we're taking the whole of the WG's forces into account, that includes the CP as well. Next time be sure to read the first post so you can get an idea of what the discussion is about. :^_^

Well, the first sentence is a bit missleading, my bad. My main point is that the WG most likely has something completely unknown upon their sleves, which nobody has pointed out yet. Doflamingo has hinted of a shocking secret inside Mariejoa that would shake the world and when Rayleigh talked about the void century he became really depressed and said that they learned everything about it, but even the mighty Roger pirates couldn't do anything to change the world. So the discussion up to this point has been about Marines + CP (+ Gorousei maybe) against Yonkou + allies. If it was that simple, Yonkous would win all the way (if they could work together for at least a week). But my argument focuses on the fact that there will be a major and most likely shocking plot-twist about the WG, which explains why they've been ruling the world for more than 800 years and what gave/gives them the might and power to rule. I think this will be one of the most important events in the whole manga and after it we will understand why no Yonkou or other strong organization has been able to defeat the WG (or even threaten them badly).

No I think the main issue is that no one really tried opposing the WG directly, and those who do don't have enough power by themselves. Take the Yonko for example. Them teaming up is the least likely scenario, because they're rivals so they won't be joining hands, for what? Take down the WG? That's hardly their goal, their goal should be to find the OP and become the PK in theory. In practice each Yonko had his own dream, WB wasn't even interested in becoming PK. Shanks prolly feels the same. Kaido wants to die really bad, BM looks like she wants to eat as much candy as she can...and BB is prolly the only one actively working towards becoming the PK.
The only ones who are opposing the WG are the RA, and their power is prolly not enough. Also Dragon is interested in the true history, and that is the only thing that can back the WG into a corner.
So the reason the WG was able to maintain its grip for so long has more to do with the fact that they erased history, and would call a Buster call on all those who were close to uncovering that story like we saw in Robin's flashback. I doubt there's an ancient weapon in Mariejoie for example, if they had one the WG wouldn't be looking for them. Even one weapon should be enough to dissuade anyone from opposing the WG.
Last but not least we're not here to discuss the happenings of such a war, just whether in terms of strength the Yonko all together can take on the WG with all its known forces. We can't take into account something we don't know about when speculating about the Yonko vs the WG.So far we can only speculate about what is known to us.

I think it's just convenient to say we are only talking about all the known forces of the WG. The original poster asked about a war, in which everyone from the WG and the Yonkous would fight. That naturally means that right now there are a lot of unknown fighters (and mysteries, e.g. the secret of Mariejois), which makes a prediction very hard. If he wanted to know about a fight between the known forces the answer is pretty much the Yonkou. They stand above everyone of the (known) WG individually in terms of power and their right hands could probably go toe to toe with the admirals. The CP we know so far are just fodder in such a war and there aren't that many high ranking fighters that could hold of the crews and allies of the Yonkou.
But as I said there are still many mysteries about the WG, Vegapunk for example is another one. If Caesar, who is clearly inferior to Vegapunk, could develop insane mass-murder weapons, I think Vegapunk has some serious shit which could heavily damage the Yonkou, too.
To make it short: I think if we only consider the known forces, Yonkou win. If we look at the whole picture, we can't tell anything, but I would lean towards the WG (gut feeling and plot purpose).

If we're going to speculate about the WG unknown forces, we might also speculate about the Yonko's. Who is to tell that one of them isn't trying to acquire an Ancient weapon? Allow me to remind you that Caribou knows that Shirahoshi is Poseidon, and he initially set of to kill Luffy to "please someone". Do you happen to remember last time we saw Caribou? He was getting dragged by X Drake to his ship, after Caribou swallowed the weapon's factory that was guarded by Scotch, who happens to be one of Kaido's men.:cookiehand
And Drake has now joined Kaido as this chart explains it:

Redon from APforums said:
What do you think will happen if Caribou meets Kaido, and he tries to save himself from Kaido's wrath? He's likely to spill the beans about Shirahoshi, assuming it wasn't Kaido he was trying to please in the first place.
So you can see even if the WG could have some trick up their sleeve, it's entirely possible the Yonko also have one. We simply cannot use that in the equation, because it's an undetermined factor that we're not sure of. So yeah so far we can only speculate about the WG AND the Yonko's known forces.
And this would be for the WG.. WG=Marines+Shichibukai+CP.
And for the Yonko= 4 Yonko+ their crews+ their allies.

That's it.

So currently we can say that 4 Yonko > WG based on the data available to us. Anything else isn't confirmed, as we don't even know what this national treasure is. Could be a weapon, could be a DF tree, we don't know. So if we're going to discuss this seriously we can only discuss what is known to us and what is confirmed.
I'd appreciate it if we stuck to that instead of speculating about what ifs.

Well, you just summoned up what I tried to say the whole time. I even said it in my last post, that Yonkou > WG as far as we know right now. Of course the Yonkou could have some unknown stuff, too. That's why I said the outcome is very unclear if we look at the whole picture.
The only point I have a slightly different point of view is, that I think the WG has something extraordinary upon their sleves which could be the game-changer (just to make it clear: that was a wild speculation based on some quotes and a gut feeling I have).
But since you want a discussion only based on what we know, I will give you Yonkou > WG (with the reminder, that there is still more to come in the future, which could change the landscape drastically) ;)

Haha nice found this one. So back then we were to believe the Yonkou could overthrow the WG. Guess Oda taught us a lesson there recently.

Tonmoy by themself could never, not even in the storyline. Just that those 4 had conquered territories and as a collective possessed a threat in the new world. The unity of 2 can threaten the balance

Well while I think it‘s obvious that the current Yonko are going to make it happen (somehow), I think Oda impressively showed that the Yonko from before (Kaido, BM, Shanks and Whitebeard) were not capable of ending Imu, and I claim they would not even make it when united as allies and 100% trusting in each other (hypothetically spoken of course).

Haha nice found this one. So back then we were to believe the Yonkou could overthrow the WG. Guess Oda taught us a lesson there recently.
nice find lol. i thought that jan 2016 post above with the chart was new somehow and i was puzzled for a minute

yeah now we finally have a big missing piece of the puzzle that is the God's Knights. back then it was getting increasingly frustrating that the WG's only clear fighting force was Cypher Pol goons

All 4 emperors get washed by Imu the same way the previous Big Dawgs did (even if they're better equipped as they are). The only real wild card is whether or not Luffy can reverse Domi Reversi (I suspect he can). Not so sure about the Covenants though, a willfully-bound contract should be a different kind of magic. I can see Blackbeard willfully making a Covenant, but because of his Darkness fruit he somehow absorbs it and/or Imu.

Without Imu though, the WG gets hilariously stomped by the Pirates. Half the Warlords are officially back to being Pirates and the other half functionally are anyways now. The Marines are in the process of being in a huge state of disarray, barely shoring up any high level fighters and losing the second strongest Admiral... so... there's that.

It‘s really nice to find these old threads years after we learnt more. And I‘m 100% positive that I would have voted for Yonkou as well back then. This goes to show how Oda did his homework and unfolded the true power of the WG to make them look like an actual threat.

Agreed on your assessment and I like the thought of Blackbeard absorbing Imu and simply becoming the next tyrant ruler of the world that simply keeps the WG, possibly makes it even more evil and needs to be stopped for pushing it too far too quickly. I wouldn’t mind that. About Luffy being “Domi Reversable“, really hard to tell IMO. Gut feeling keeps telling me, no way in hell, but why should Luffy be immune and him being turned into a black Nika would be a funny sight to say the least.

I actually don't think Luffy himself is immune, just that he can Domi Reversi-Reversi. I definitely think Black Nika will happen and it'll be a dope remix of Oars w/ Luffy's shadow.

I can see Imu doing this and then coming face to face with Nika in a metaphysical plane then followed by a Nika or Imu flashback.

Also I'm curious to see how Blackbeard's nullification abilities will work against the Gorosei
