I sympathize the situation.. imagine a 15 year old at the dinner table with their parents fighting over what was said, etc..... which is why it is indeed a good thing the Conways are stepping back and giving her attention.. both of them are letting their political careers away to achieve whats important... parenting can be extremely hard and clearly the daughter needs them at this point.

Thats what democracy is... in a diverse nation, identity politics cannot be avoided. Same in India, those who criticize identity politics are aligned to the party that is catering to the majority.. BJP, the ruling party claims to be done with identity politics, but everything they do has to do with that...

Democracy essentially is a popularity contest, and what rings a tune with the people the most is the what relates to them... that will never stop.
Your personal politics is derived from your identity however, what is happening in the states is comedy. They accuse each other of doing it when they do it themselves.

That is all of politics man.... Both democrats and republicans will flip flop on the same issue everytime while accusing the other of it being wrong.... and its not just identity based...

Can't wait for the day Corporate Democrats (whichis like 95% of the DNC) realize they are the same things as the GOP.

Abusive trash??? where are you getting that from? The daughter is obviously doing it for attention too... Her political inclinations will change over time, at that age you obviously follow whatever every kid your age does...
I think its commendable that they didnt share the same opinions while being high profile politicians and even more commendable to be stepping down for the sake of the family...
Her Twitter. Why would you think the daughter is doing it for attention? Because you don't like what she's saying? Or because Kellyanne was pressured into stepping down to avoid hurting Trump during the election? She couldn't focus on her job as much since Claudia wants emancipation, and it might be a battle? Given Kellyanne's history of lying for Trump, it's hard to believe anything she says.

Identity politics........sigh*
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Both sides do it, but Republicans are the biggest hypocrites in terms of this.
Yep. The amount of times Republicans have said "identity politics are bad" when they didn't have a good counter, but they have no problem with republicans, especially Trump, blaming Dems for anything and everything. Plus, identity politics are unavoidable, as someone here mentioned, since both parties have opposite ideas.
Can't wait for the day Corporate Democrats (whichis like 95% of the DNC) realize they are the same things as the GOP.
I think they do know, but they spin it otherwise for their supporters. The Dems' selling point is that they give a shit about people, so people that do will support them even if they support stuff like funding police forces. I mean, the Dems wore African colors or something and knelt, but what have they done to help Black people?

I like what she's saying, why would you assume otherwise, cos we questioned you? You really have a binary look at everything huh???

I dont mean attention in a negative way, its what all kids need from parents. Conways would have ignored her in terms of parenting and her hatred stems from that. The Conways have addressed this as a reason to quit is proof that they realize how its getting to it. Also, reputable people on twitter have said that too, specially those from the opposing side and have extended support for the parents as well.

I dont think her statement will have had any impact on her mother considering that her husband himself is leading an opposition to Trump which has more weightage than a teenager. But the teenager doing it to their parents is clearly a sign of loss of connection between the kid and the parent.

I dislike Kellyanne Conway, but ever since she became a part of Trump's campaign, they've been doing great. She's countered CNN on Trump's issues to the point where the network has ended up attacking her stupidity, but she's still won then because they weren't talking shit on Trump. She's clearly important for them so her leaving the administration genuinely means she's doing it for the family. And family is very importatn, i can get behind that.

Rhetorical statement, I know all that. It's the main reason they're trying to make sure Bernie doesn't win either.

Wonder what's going to happen if Biden loses this one as well. Will the Dems realize they have to do self-reflection, or will they just continue as usual knowing Trump can't seek another term?
I studied biology at university when I was younger. In some ways you can look at things in nature and find meaning that you would never dare to think about humans. But I think it often can be the same structures.

In nature, more advanced animals often form packs or groups of some kind. They do so because the strength and effectiveness of a group is often greater than the sum of its parts. A group can create or acquire resources that the individuals cant. The problem is just: When you have the resources, how do you divide it in the group? Thus comes the problem of corruption and inter-group competition.

You get a dynamic called out-group competition vs inter-group competition. Everyone in a group benefits from the group doing well. But they can benefit even more from competing with other members of the group for the resources that the group creates. But if the group fights too much internally then the group stops being efficient and gets out-competed by other groups. Thus there will be a balance between greed and cooperation in the group. If the group is threatened by outside forces everyone becomes loyal and rally to protect the group. But if the group have no outside enemies and enough resources then the members will increasingly fight among themselves.

So what does any of this have to do with politics and the democrats? Well I think the same systems work here. The democrats are in competition with another group, the republicans and they would like to win. But they are also split internally between two competing in-groups called the establishment/power party and the progressives/socialists.

Both sides want the democrats to win the election but they also fear each other more than they fear another four years of Trump. To them the internal competition is more important than the external competition.

The progressives dont mind losing as long as more progressives get in to power inside the party. After all, the race is long and there will be other elections. But once they are in power in the party they will not give up that power again. And its a two part system. Eventually the republicans will screw up and the democrats will be back in the White House. And then they can have socialism.

The Establishment are of the same mind. They know Joe and Kamala are not good candidates. They were chosen because they first and foremost are loyal and will ensure that the establishment stays in power and that the progressive movement get stomped out. Maybe there is a risk that they lose to the Trump train, but its better to lose an election than to lose their power inside the party.

Teal Deer: Both faction in the democrat party have reasons to hate each other more than they hate Trump.

Also, the country right now is way too capitalist.... Majority of the demographic that votes has seen Socialism as a failure around the world and will have reservations on siding with that. Democrats are and always been the party of everyone and catering to only socialistic idealogies doesnt ring with the parties principles.
As the new generations get more prominent in their voice, you will see a swing towards socialism. Obamacare in a way was the first step towards that, Biden and Harris will build on that and slowly the progressive idealogies will get stronger and louder. We are in the transitional stage for now.

More than too capitalist, I tend to see the US as too anti government in general. I also don't see progressive ideas as properly socialist... At least I don't see european welfare states as socialist anyways. Ultimately way too many people in the US do not have an interest in their government working as it should. Republicans are the main culprits in this because the government doing its job in practically any capacity does not suit their current anti government ideology. Claiming a branch of government doesn't work, then defunding it and making it not work is pretty much their day to day by now. Democrats don't fight enough to protect the government from this nor call out republicans when they do it... And the fact remains that government and social services cost money which should come from low, middle and high income people and businesses and yet keep supporting or not fighting against tax cuts. That said, the main problem with taxes in the US continues to be how complicated the system is... which of course the republican party has zero incentive to fix. Taxes being difficult is a good political tool to turn people against them and there are also the economic interests of companies people hire to do their taxes..

You are right, its more libertarian policies of minimum government .... European welfare are socialistic policies but within a genuine democratic platform.

I think Bill Maher had once stated that republicans are bullies, and the democrats are pussies... that is true to the extent on how the two parties act on getting legistatures passed and stuff done.
On taxes, the other problem democrats have is not the best approach towards it. That is where the more progressive method of the likes of Bernie and Warren would be significantly effective. Both are talking about better tax brackets for the wealthy. The moderates will end up taxing indirect methods lwhich itself affects the poor and mid level income people a lot more than the wealthy. Case in point, California's approach of increasing road tax, which resulted in increasing the toll prices. But the rich often stay in the city and can afford to, while the poor have to commute from further away, and end up paying a lot more for little gain.

I hope the democrats' progressive wing focuses on improving health care even if that means going with Warren's universal health care and eliminating private ones, building better public transport and rewarding its usage, rather than tax breaks to electric cars, to name a few. There is as much to learn from asian countries as it is with european.

That's a framing I don't really agree with. At least without further context anyways. European welfare states are fundamentally capitalistic. Private businesses and people make shit, and profit, the government takes their cut (taxes) and spends it in said welfare programs... It's not about socially owned means of production and other stuff which is what socialism traditionally means. It also immediately brings about the association with cuba, venezuela soviet russia and other failed states...

The democrat progressive wing would take ANY health care plan... the core issue remains that the party's mainstream wing would never EVER accept it. It's why warren won't ever get anything done as long as she keeps pandering to establishment democrats. They'll throw a crumb at her every now and then because she is popular enough and setting aside her gaffes she is a policy wonk but.. that's it.

Yep, and the sad thing is that examples like the one you mention also play into republican hands. Cause you end up with dumbass democrats who want to provide social services but won't look at the absurd tax system which benefits the absurdly rich (and them). One thing I have learned looking at tax policy in the US and my own country... is that adjusting the tax brackets is the simplest and fairest way to raise taxes. It's literally that simple. All the alternatives to that are so catastrophically dumb and unfair they pretty much fall on their own, they are barely defensible and even if passed they will hit poor people the hardest.

As I said, because you accused her of doing it for attention. I'm not sure if that's why they're quitting, otherwise there wouldn't be allegations of physical abuse as well. Who are these reputable people though? There are people who insist on respecting abusive parents or forgiving them no matter what they did, when the victims shouldn't have to.

I don't think she's really doing it for the family though, it seems more like they're putting on fronts or that she's forced to to help Trump's chances. Claudia being so vocally anti-Trump is probably hurting Trump a bit, if at all, and Trump's Administration wouldn't want that. It's weird to have your own employee's child criticize you, no?

I am not accussing as much repeating what a lot of experts are saying. Perhaps attention is not the best word here, but i have a limited vocabulary. I mean to say kids that age need parental guidance and she's not getting enough of it.

ALso, i hadnt heard of any physical abuse, you can argue that she had gone through it because she posted and deleted it, but she has posted and deleted others too so its possible she got carried away. She also asked the public to not hate on her parents so she is surely confused about this..

I think this is where we disagree with. From a career perspective, Kelleyene is doing amazingly well. And George was spearheading the lincoln initiative which directly attacks Trump too, so both were in a good position respectively. Nobody even knew about their daughter or her antics so to think her rant will have an impact is hard to believe, specially to George who wants Trump to do bad.
So yea, as weird it may be that the kids criticize your own employer, that wouldn't extend to George. I am inclined to believe that Conways are doing this for the kids and that is commendable.

You are right by definition, Welfare does promote capitalism but i am talking about socialism in terms of what the democrats are talking, with policies like Universal health care, labor protection, unemployment wages, public housing, labor protection etc. These are what progressives are referring to when they say social programs which the right label as socialists...

Te states you are referring to have failed democracy, not necessarily failed socialist states though, would you agree?

You need someone to push for the progressive argument inorder to win a moderate one. Even though Biden and Harris seem moderate and centrist candidates, the progressives are filling up in the party and that'll eventually bring them closer to these.

ep, and the sad thing is that examples like the one you mention also play into republican hands. Yea, couldn't agree more.... And also, not to forget that the rich also find innovative ways to save money on taxes... one example i recollect is boat tax, where some states waive sales tax if you pay use tax in another location... and they also find ways to circumvent personal property taxes as well...

Well, yeah, but my point is that refering to that as socialism is absurd. If not that, at a minimum bad marketing given the word's association with those failed states.

And on the failed state thing.... I see those as about the same. As in, they are failed states but they are also failed democracies. Venezuela, cuba, the soviet union.. One of them does not exists and the other two have nothing to show for all their socialism other than immigrants and misery.

Kinda? I don't see progressives ever moving biden on healthcare at least. Biden's only upside is that he won't try to sabotage obamacare. He has been plenty clear on this issues before. IIRC he has said he'd straight up veto universal health care. There is also him telling his donors "nothing would fundamentally change"... Biden is more likely to join republicans in fighting progressive policies than to pass progressive policies IMO. From a progressive point of view biden's only merit is that he is better than trump by A LOT (which is still a super low bar).

I am not quite pro property tax or even pro inheritance taxes for that matter. Both have an iffy history and can be hard to implement. Taxing income is simpler and fairer IMO. Property taxes make more sense if you specifically want or need people to sell their stuff. Say, someone buys land and just keeps it for 20 years hoping to make a killing at some point.... rather than sell it earlier to someone who would actually develop the land. Inheritance tax wise I am skeptical of forcing people into a position where they have to sell what they are inheriting to keep it just a part of it. I suppose that depends on how the inheritance tax is implemented and the rate though.

Or maybe there'd have been backlash, or she was told to remove videos for legal reasons.

Who says nobody knew? She was definitely getting attention with her videos. I"m talking about Kellyanne, not George. I think George was okay with his daughter making the videos and speaking out.

Thats what even European countries said when Bernie referred to Norway's Socialism. it is bad marketing, specially when you consider how a large portion of immigrant population is filled with people escaping from those countries.

I think Biden's group will try and build up further on Obamacare, rather than replace it. Obamacare has tons of issues which can be improved upon, but it still acts as health insurance rather than a health care policy plan. So yea, he wont supoort a universal health care plan. Obamacare still allows private entities to compete and be relevant so should be easier to build upon than replace.

I think Biden has a good track record of bipartisanship so acts that please both will help but i wouldn't say "join republicans in fighting progressive policies". Some progressive policies democrats will stand by but at the end, he is only going to be a one term president, so lets see how much he can acheive... cos lame ducks achieve more..

I think Venezuela, Cuba and Soviet all failed because the people in power became a lot more militant and dictatorlike. Socialism had little to do with it.
THey don't have to be mutually dependent. India, for instance has socialist till the 90s, government owned most of the industries and what was private sector was only certain selected people, usually those who influenced the Nehru-Gandhi family. But it was still a democractic country and people voted them out to start reforms. Eventually, a new leader changed the economic policies and opened the economy which led to large scale development and brought in wealth. So inspite of being a socialist country, the democratic reform can allow those policies to change...

I wish i knew enough to comment on taxes but everything i come up with ends up countering another point, so i will refrain from something i have zero knowledge about. In essence, taxation shouldn't have upper limit slabs though, that we can agree upon.

We dont know, and we can agree upon that, but everything beyond that is speculation. We know she has problems with her parents, and the parents are giving a chance to address those issues.

And Claudia has issues with her dad too... Sure, she cant stand see her mom support Trump and stand there and speak, defend in ridiculous manner and she is frustrated like everyone. Surely, she deleted the video because of backlash, but she didn't delete a ton of other posts where she attacked the mom. The deleted post could have equally been her realizing she went too far, specially when you consider that she posted dont hate on my parents as well.

Their resignation doesn't change the fact that Claudia hates Trump, or the Conways political positions / affiliations are. BUt the fact that both have resigned at the same time indicates that they genuinely want to spend time with the family.

Ah yes, maintaining order AKA crossing state lines and LARPing as militia while using a firearm illegally in order to "protect the property" of people he doesn't even know. How altruistic. It definitely had nothing to do with wanting to kill people he thinks he disagrees with politically or anything. Yes, let's glorify this kind of person and do it on national TV even. That's the ticket!

It falls in line with their "good guy with a gun" nonsense they keep bringing up. That and their recurring interest in defending fascists.

It's so idiotic. Kinda wish both sides would send their idiots forth. Let them stand in lines and take turns shooting at each other.

Why is it that you people defend these riots and looting? You must realize that to most people this is the true face of terror with violent people beating and stealing as they see fit. Besides, every rioter is a campaign spokesman for why Donald Trump should be reelected. After all, people who see their cities get destroyed and are threatened by violent marauders from one side will feel fear and cry out for help from the other side. The only one standing up to the lawlessness is Trump while the democrats are actively supporting and abating it. So if you want it to stop you either have to vote straight republican or hope that extortionists will leave you alone if you do everything they want.

And why are you calling that kid a fascist? Do you even know what that word means? (I mean other than "everyone we dont like is a fascist") Those people are libertarians and probably the furthest away from being a socialist. And fascism is a branch of socialism. Its founder Benito Mussolini was himself a communist before became distraught with their ineffectiveness and started a "better" socialist party which he called the fascist party. When he got in to power he then nationalized all big companies in the country. Leaving only the tiny ones privately owned.

In fact the rioters in Kenosha are much closer to fascist than that boy who defended a car dealership from looters and then defended himself when those looters attacked him and chased after him with guns. Musolini and Hitler both employed semi-organized rioters and mobs to attack their political enemies and to burn down the businesses of people of a class they did not like. (mostly jews) Read up on the "Kristallnacht" why dont you?
