Ah, one of our favorite posters from the past here seemed to hold that viewpoint.

The issue is that it's totally incompatible with how most of these people describe "wokeness". Especially when it comes to the worst examples of things like islamophobia or xenophobia. Like I said above, the "woke" criticism there is being "too tolerant". So which is it? Is woke pushing an atheist agenda or is it kowtowing too easily to the satanistspeople of non-Christian religions? It's just hilarious.

The guy is 21. As a 35 year old I can look back and of course think "Wow, I was a big idiot back then!"
OTOH we're old enough to drink, go die in a war, and people at that age could potentially be starting medical or dental school. He should have enough training to know better. Even at companies that aren't involved with the government there are rules for what's confidential, restricted and what's public, and you can still get into trouble releasing stuff you aren't suppose to. He knows damned well what the consequences of his actions could be and is an adult who should be charged as such. When I worked in the DOD we had to check out cell phones in before entering the skiff. We couldn't use the internet even inside. There were no 2-way communication devices allowed. If I accidentally walked in with my cell phone in my pocket I had to report that incident to security.

That said, it's probably time for the Pentagon to rethink how they secure highly classified information. This has happened more than once and under many different pretenses. Not recognizing that the materials were taken is on the Pentagon. This stuff shouldn't be showing up on the news before they know they have a breach.

The biggest issue I'm seeing right now is how this story is being treated by conservative media. They're acting like these leaks are "good" (I don't necessarily disagree), so the energy used against this kid is wrong since in their eyes many of the same people outraged about this are supporters of Chelsea Manning or Edward Snowden.

The thing they're missing (or dishonestly leaving out), is this idiot isn't a whistleblower. From all accounts the only reason this leaked was because of some stupid egostroke in a private discord server in order to win an argument.

So the issue isn't necessarily about this kind of disclosure, it's why it happened. And yet you have charlatans like Glenn Greenwald indignantly shouting at "mainstream media" for the outrage over his actions, yet neither he nor Tucker Carlson had the same kind of energy for someone like Reality Winner leaking documents concerning Russian interference in the 2016 election. Wow, wonder why that is...

Oh, sure. And I get that the implications of the FCC regulating more things isn't fun and goes against a lot of what I have usually believed in. Especially when it comes to indecency clauses and the like, but the consequences of letting cable news outlets say whatever the fuck they want as long as they stop short of getting sued (lol not really) has never been more obvious and clear. So idk.

There's some people who've frequented it that are right-leaning but they don't stick around very long I guess. I'm sure it's just the echo-chamber all of us exist in...
