Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

no offense bene...you know you my boy:super...but i nominate goral or the newcomer sheik(just joshin:teehee).they both know their shit...i hear and see everything they post on certain topics.both would be great....
No problem...it's good to see the suggestions...we do have some requirements for getting new mods, and seeing that we have great new members on the Claymore board we are on the look-out:p

Anyways....I don't know if you have seen the Front Page news post, but there's a new forum, the Role-Playing Forum...and that's the place to start up some exciting new stories related to the Claymore universe...so go ahead and give it a try...the narrative and characters are the main focus of the forum, but for more info about different roles and such check out the rules thread

'Just joshin'? Why? You don't think I should be a Mod? XDXD

I'm not sure I want that authority, what it would entail, or much on this subject all, but, if nothing else, it's nice that somebody wants to nominate me for something :)

As for that Role-Playing thread...I don't know much on that subject either, since I've never taken part in such things, but from what I do know...it's basically what users did on AS way back when on the fanfiction thread....way back during the days of Yosei, Hell88, Mikke, Chiba, and all the others who frequented the subsection back in 2007; all making self-insert characters and basically making their own story.

If I'm not wrong, I think this is the same thing really.

I was wondering, what experience do you require of a member for consideration as a forum moderator? Obviously, you need to have an in depth knowledge of the Manga and an even temperament , but do you require any technical skills (programming, data base management, etc)?

There are many types are RPs on the net, but here's how ours works...there is a game master(GM) who sets up the entire universe of the game...basically he is the creator of that particular idea(thread) and he sets the rules...what is required form a RP though is a story...so it can either be an interactive story, where characters make up their dialogue lines and can change the plot after every post, or the GM can set the more barriers, or larger background so that the story would unfold in the direction he wishes...

So ideas and implementations can be plenty, but it must have story, that is the main goal...

For example, a very good idea would be combining some ideas from the Fanfiction thread with the Creation ideas thread...the latter gives the technical part and small background, and the former is the story...the technical character sheet would matter when there's a fight for example...

Not really...it's a plus though...but as you said, knowledge of the manga and personality count the most...

Technical skills are not a must, really. Though if one has them, then he/she can help with the forum better too.

Still, there is a thread in the feedback forums about the claymore moderator here: http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/75571-Dedicated-moderator-for-Claymore-sub-forum
That thread is closed though...

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Surprisingly Claymore is very high in this month's ToC, it has 7th place (out of 25).

An interesting article about possible Claymore sequel. http://www.animenation.net/blog/2010/02/08/ask-john-why-did-claymore-end-the-way-it-did/

John from Anime Nation said:
The possibility of seeing new Claymore anime someday is remote but not impossible. The ending of the TV series is quite conclusive. While the story could continue, a continuation doesn’t feel wanting or necessary. The 2006 Kanon and Negima!? TV series, the current Fullmetal Alchemist TV series, and the Hellsing OVA series attest to the possibility of second anime series relaunching franchises as though the earlier productions didn’t exist. But the circumstances affecting Claymore are different from these other aforementioned shows. Kanon and Negima!? were rebooted because their earlier iterations were considered insufficient. The current Fullmetal Alchemist and Hellsing serials exist because their preceding series diverged significantly from their manga source. Neither situation applies to Claymore. The Claymore anime is not a weak production, and most of it is very faithful to its source material.

Animation studio Madhouse does have a precedent for reviving or producing long dormant franchises. Hells Angels didn’t premiere in anime form until five years after the production was announced. Madhouse’s Trigun revival will debut a dozen years after the original TV anime. Madhouse is still developing new Black Lagoon anime although the previous series ended four years ago. So possibility certainly exists, but Claymore doesn’t seem like a title that was successful enough in anime form to demand a revival. Because the 2006 Claymore TV series climax diverges so drastically from the ongoing manga, any new Claymore anime would most likely have to either restart from the beginning that was already successfully depicted in the 2006 TV series, or launch from the conclusion of the TV series as an original story not based on the manga. Neither option seems particularly appealing, especially for an anime franchise that was successful but not a major hit. As a result, I think we’ve probably seen as much Claymore anime as we’re likely to ever see, possibly save for a self-contained OAD or similar production. And we should be thankful that the existing Claymore anime is as good as it is, regardless of the fact that its ending varies from the manga.
Basically, what he's saying is that we should be thankful to Madhouse that they've messed up the story so much it would require a whole redo of the series to make a proper adaptation because what they've given us is decent enough. :no

Seriously, I'll never forgive Madhhouse for destroying Claymore franchise the way they did. If only they stuck to Yagi's script faithfully we wouldn't be in such hopeless situation. Instead of going with an open ending they had to show their creativity :/. To this day Madhouse is on my shitlist. It's especially frustrating now that we might get a long hiatus. That would be a perfect opportunity to make the waiting on another work of Yagi (hopefully continuation of Claymore) more bearable but because of these idiots it will be maybe possible in like 20 years (or never since Claymore isn't the most successful manga out there). Claymore manga is big enough to be adapted for a 52 episode anime and we've got only 20 episodes of relatively close to manga material. This sucks big time.

Personally I would like a remake 100% faithful to the manga or where Raki's role would be limited and instead it would be like a cross over of Queen's Blade and Berserk ;P. I.e. more ecchi than in a manga (but not exactly over the top like in Queen's Blade), less of annoying characters. That would appeal to broader audience while providing a double amount of fanservice to Claymore fans. Although 1:1 anime to manga adaptation ratio would be preferable.

Anyway, some studio could do at least Extra Scene OAV-s...

Signed.

If you look at it in a pessimistic way this hiatus will actually be forever. That would suck more than the messed up Pieta war in the Anime.

Can't agree with you in the last part. From what I remember the Anime actually is very close to the manga. And here I'm not talking about stuff like drugged Clare having brown eyes. No hard feelings. But they absolutely have do redo the war in Pieta (a movie would be great, but I'm hoping for too much I guess).

Anyway, some studio could do at least Extra Scene OAV-s...
*votes for Goral's Idea*

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Yup, yup.

The MH staff chose Ancy as the new green of Claymore.:confetti That means that there is a 3 man team who are taking care of this section. Ancy is the first person and she should be the first to be contacted about anything. Deleted posts, questions about threads, or any Claymore related questions should be addressed to Ancy first. Then there's me and thornofcarrion. We are available as well.

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Finally. I hope you will be more active in Claymore sub-forum though, I hate to say this but I recognize you only because in your profile it says you live in Antarctica (which I seriously doubt :P) and not because you wrote 3 (very short) posts on the same day and then disappeared until you've become a mod. Anyway, congratulations. It sucks though that Claymore might end or go on a long hiatus, blame administrators for taking such a long time to reach a decision :P.

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Honestly, this forum does a good job of policing itself. Most of us enjoy the Manga very much and enjoy sharing ideas, even it does get into an occasional disagreement. Usually, it occurs between some of the long term members and is, for the most part, kept on civil grounds. Other members will step in to voice concern if certain boundaries of etiquette are breached.

It's not to say we don't need moderators, but their interventions are seldom necessary in such matters. That's a good thing as it's the type of environment that attracts new members and encourages active discussions. Ancy, welcome to the Claymore community. We're happy to have you at the helm and hope to enjoy many more releases of Claymore, in spite of the current speculations.

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

BTW, currently there are too many sticky threads. IMO these should be unstuck:
Claymore 125 Discussion / 126 Predictions
Claymore 125- A Second End- Review.
Claymore Island Mapping Project - here explanation might be needed so let me justify it shortly. Firstly, it's VERY inaccurate, secondly it hasn't been updated for a year or more.

Also, some threads (especially the ones with less than 5 replies and surely pointless ones) could be moved to Claymore Archive (such new section could be created for threads without future). Of course the possibility of moving a thread back here should also be available (on users request or seeing that enough new replies appeared after moving to Claymore Archive). This would help to make this sub-forum more clear because for now there are many pointless (very specific or just stupid) threads where some of them are about the same thing. I would also suggest to make this thread: http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/46432-The-Anime-Thread a sticky thread so that users would have a place to discuss anime and to prevent from creating the same thread.

Some of the threads could probably be merged into one, some should be renamed. E.g. don't know why HK has renamed "The Viz Claymore releases" to "question about Claymore wallpapers/art and itunes/licensed releases". There should be a thread where discussing official English releases would be available and it has nothing to do with wallpapers/art or itunes.
