By far the most overrated character in Fairy Tail.

I'll be honest, it's a shame for me to say that Erza was one of the characters that got me into Fairy Tail...

Way back then, when I started Fairy Tail, I thought Erza was one of the greatest characters... cool and badass...

But that all quickly changed when I learned her attitude and PoF/Nakama Power Speech.

Somewhere along the line, Erza began to develop a cocky and "I am invincible!" type of persona.

If you go back into the series and look carefully, you can see small signs of that kind of attitude in ToH Arc and Oracion Seis Arc.

But Erza's real personality was completely revealed in Tenrou Arc during the Azuma vs. Erza battle.

That battle was the start of PoF/PiS/Nakama battles for Erza all the way to the current arc.

The thing about Erza is that she never knows when to stand down and let others have the spotlight.

She tries too hard to have control, be relevant in every battle, and have a piece of the cake (lol).

Moving on to Alvarez Arc, this arc was when my respect went way down for her. Almost near rock bottom.

I can see that, despite all her talking about trust and friendships, she really is biased towards a few people.

And those people are: Jellal, Natsu, and Makarov

Those are the 3 people that Erza blindly places her faith in without questioning them when it comes to serious situations.

With everybody else, she would act like the boss of when they start to defy her, Jellal, Natsu, or Makarov.

But then, what's new? Erza will keep having the spotlight until who knows when. She will never get off her "Fairy Queen Throne".

In fact, she is hogging the entire throne for herself more than she ever has in the current arc.

She could probably 1v2 Acnologia and END and still survive because all she needs to do is stare them straight in the eyes and say "Begone, vanish my nightmare."

Damn :P

Well i understand most of the points you raised, thus i respect your opinion. However i disagree. I'm one of the few people (xD) that actually like Erza despite her never ending spotlight and her bs fights.

I would understand if you said "i hate Mashima's decision to give Erza too much spotlight". That i would agree with. But Erza doesn't seem to be the kind of character who wants the spotlight and "have a piece of the cake" as you say. That's what Mashima wants. The character itself, isn't like that.
I think i understand what you mean by cocky attitude and arrogance, but once again i disagree. She even stated that she wasn't the strongest (stated that she was weak actually, against Ikagura), and that she didn't wish she was stronger. The only thing she wishes for is to be strong enough to protect her friends. That's also what Natsu desired after Igneel died. That's a recurrent theme in FT, friendship, protect friends, family etc. I see how you could consider thhat arrogance, i think it is not.
She never said anything like "i'm invincible" and never was arrogant. That's your own perception just because you don't like her character, for the points you stated. But despite having a lot of spotlight and despite the PoF, she's not arrogant.
That's my opinion at least. And keep in mind i'm not even an Erza fanboy or anything.

However i agree with you about the absurd faith she puts in Natsu/Jellal. I'm not talking about Makarov because that kind of respect seems normal considering he's FT guildmaster. Her trust about Jellal is biased due to her feelings, so i don't see a problem there either. Unless you blame Erza for being in love.
No, the truth she puts in Natsu is what i agree with you with, mainly. She trusts him even when he's acting stupidly. But yeah, he's he main character so he has quite a lot of special, preferential treatment. I blame that on the plot itself, but i agree with you to an extent.

That's not enough for me to dislike Erza though. In my eyes she's not what you described. In terms of personality i mean, with the arrogance and all.

The huge amount of spotlight she gets compared to the others is another thing, that stems from Mashima's desire. She's one of the main characters after all. It's only natural that she gets more spotlight than Mira (talking about her since they are pictured equal), Laxus, or even Wendy.
In the current arc she got more spotlight than Gray, probably because he's going to have to face very important battles. Other than that her spotlight was ok, even Laxus got more despite his illness.

Yeah dude, i respect your opinion and i can undertand some of your points. But i just disagree. I'm aware that i'll make myself ennemies for saying that (xD) but i actually like Erza.

And their great taste . Erza and good character. Strong and determined and preaches that the author wants to jump .

She is humble and
altruistic
. Fairy Tail is all that is Erza .

Unfortunately what points you raised against Ezra applies to natsu as well. and apparently to laxus too.
Fairy tail is just like that.
Natsu bs has been going on since fight against erigor
Hell he was ready to risk Wendy's guild so he could fight zero
This is not a series where you will find reasonable characters or story
Just believe Nakama will see you through.
Cheers

I never denied that it applies to Natsu and Laxus as well.

But you are in the wrong thread if you want to talk about Natsu and Laxus.

There are other threads for that.

I also know that this series is heavily based off Nakama/PoF... I'm in 490+ chapters, Im pretty sure I will know that.

Even though this series is heavily based off Nakama/PoF, not all characters actually use that.

Gray uses his brain while Mira worked hard to become strong, it's that simple.

There are many times it was wise for Erza to stand down. We know that Fairy Tail will always win in the end, but they don't have to win the asspull way.

Erza is best off to let others have the spotlight, that way, when FT wins, the fight is actually believable.

It was complete BS that Erza fought Kagura and was severely injured, but then defeated Minerva (Sabertooth's strongest, keep in mind Sabertooth was still a monster in GMG arc).

Erza practically defeated the strongest mage from the second-strongest guild, 3 seconds after she defeated an elite mage like Kagura.

There are many other instances that I don't want to start listing, but in my opinion, it isn't too hard for Erza to just have her fair share.

It's the amount of battles that Erza has that greatly reduces the amount of feats for other characters.

Once again i understand but disagree :P

I mean... It's not like she came there to steal someone else's fight or anything. At the very start she was supposed to fight Minerva (according to Mavis' plan), but Kagura came and started fighting with Erza.
You would have wanted Erza to be like "nah Kagura please don't stab me, i don't want to fight you cause i don't want to steal the spotlight TOO much, go fight someone else..." ?
Then Kagura appeared, it became a 3 way battle. Then again Erza couldn't just step down.
She battled Kagura, alright, and due to their past and story with Jellal they had to fight and talk about that anyway. The plot needed them to fight.
Then Minerva came back, stabbed Kagura before Erza's eyes. She also severly injured Milianna. What was Era supposed to do?
Just, "Minerva-sama please leave me alone, don't stab me to get my points, we're not supposed to fight together"
No, Erza had to fight Minerva, because otherwise she would have been stabbed anyway (that was Minerva's plan after all, to get all those points), and to avenge Kagura, Milianna and the FT members Minerva (or other Sabertooth members) injured.

I mean yeah i get it, she got a lot of spotlight and 2 key battles. But that can't really be an argument to dislike the character...
A situation like Natsu VS Twins is different. THERE Natsu had WAY too much spotlight, considering he battled the twins alone when he was supposed to fight with Gajeel. He pushed him away in order to get ALL the spotlight. There, i would agree with you.
Erza's situation is very different.
It's not like she had any choice. 3 ways happen, it happened with Laxus Jura and Orga as well.

So yeah, as i said, you can disagree with Mashima for the spotlight he gives Erza, but the character itself is not to be disliked for it

Or, if Erza's Nakagami was so strong, she could have just used it from the start and oneshot Kagura and Minerva.

The point was that Erza nearly oneshotting Minerva was complete bs, especially after she got wrecked by Kagura.

Again, for Natsu and Laxus, I never denied that they got a lot of spotlights. In fact, I've complained many times on this forum about Natsu's and Laxus' asspull.

But the reason why I'm not doing it here is because I don't want to get off-topic.

GMG was just one example. There were many other battles when Erza could have chosen to step down.

- Erza vs. Kyoka (she just fought Minerva)

- Erza vs. Neinhart (she just fought Ajeel)

Both of those battles resulted in major asspulls. Especially the second one.

Each time Erza fights, the chances for an asspull increases 3x.

Erza's latest asspull was when she was able to stare down Neinhart's magic and make them disappear by talking to them.

We are literally talking about Erza fodderizing the magic of a Spriggan.

The way I see it, I like/dislike the character the way they are portrayed. It has nothing to do with Mashima.

Like I said, in the beginning of the series, Erza was one of my favorite character, but I've lost respect for her ever since.

I can bet you if Acnologia could not resist seeing boobs (like Jacob), I would lose all respect for him immediately.

I can feel you lol... when fairy tail first started I was the biggest fan of team natsu... and erza have such a funny and weird personality but as times goes on....

I gets annoyed with her endless bullshit... and with people that over rating her .

Erza limit without pof is a few second with nakagami armor . Thats all she can do . Her only ways out of getting kill or defeated and we all already sees her limit when using nakagami armor during her fight with ajeel.

Seriously I would be piss off if she fight Irene . Add up using nakagami armor again which is said need 10 years worth of mp saving to use it ( correct me if I'm wrong ) . Or any other stronger armor...

I would laugh if she use another stronger armor in this arc... like seriously that another bs .

Nakama powers have no limit. So Ezra has no limits.
But yeah, her fights are very amusing

I understand the bs part, she's been getting a lot throughout the series, but in the current arc she didn't show any of her one year of training. That wouldn't surprise me if she used a new armor.
Battling another Spriggan would be WAY too much though. So i definitely don't want that to happen.
But we could get to see some new things from her against fodders.

I will advice you guys to buckle up.
Though Namispelled might really hate Ezra, he is onto something
There hasn't been an arc which didn't involve Ezra doing some outstanding thing or taking out the second most strongest enemy. (not including minor arcs or non cannon arcs)
in this arc, Ezra hasn't done anything outrageous.
So there is very high chance Ezra will be soloing a springgan or worse.
:wtf

So, here's a little thought I just wrote about Erza and why she needs a new magic:

Why Erza needs a new type of magic
So, as we've all seen with the recent FT Chapter (514), Irene invented Dragon Slayer magic and it looks like we're going to see Erza possibly get a power-up or something related to Dragons thanks to Irene. Now, I know a lot of people are against this because they feel that it's forced, and I completely understand why they'd say it. Hiro's somewhat poor writing hasn't helped get this potential incoming development across well enough, and if he did write it better, I believe people would take it better. Yes, it's okay to not like it, but I feel like a lot of the negativity about Erza possibly getting a new type of magic or something new to use is unwarranted, and that it will actually be a really good thing if done right. Why? Here's why.

Now I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person to think that when it comes to her fights, Erza has been getting really stale. Recently she's been plowing her way through enemies via nakama power time and time again, and things have gotten pretty ludicrous because of it. It's just the same thing over and over again, and we all know exactly how things will end because of this pattern in her fights which has partly been created due to her magic. There is only so much she can do with a sword and yoga pants, and while she has various other armour that she could use, Hiro just doesn't let her finish things with it most of the time which is a real shame. Erza's magic is mainly about the armour and how it affects her, and yet we see next to nothing of that anymore. Hiro just can't utilize her magic well enough in her fights these days imo, and it's a real shame. That's not to say that her fights would feel any better if she did use more armour in them, they could still be really stale because we've seen them all before. So how do we fix this?

I think the best way to fix Erza's fights being stale is by giving her a new type of magic. We now have the possibility of it thanks to Irene who was pregnant with Erza when she was beginning to fully dragonify. Now, while it is possible that she devised the dragon antibody system to stop herself and others from dragonizing, let's say she didn't. What could possibly of happened to stop Irene from dragonizing? Well this is what I think could happen and how I'd tie in Erza getting a new type of magic in the form of Dragon Slayer magic. As we know, when in the womb, babies receive nutrients to help them grow before they are born and it's my train of thought that some of that dragon power was absorbed by the baby, and Erza has had it at her disposal this whole time. This could be the explanation we've been looking for when it comes to some of the incredible things Erza has done like managing to fight Kyouka with no senses, it'd be thanks to her inadvertently using the Dragon power. Now I know what some might say "Sir, that's just covering up for Erza's asspulls!" And while it might be the case, I think Erza figuring out she has something else she can use in battle and beginning to use it is desperately needed to rejuvenate her fights and give her more relevance, even if it will feel a little forced.

So, I've covered how I'd get Erza to have a new magic in the form of Dragon Slayer magic thanks to Irene, but I'll also say it doesn't have to be Dragon Slayer magic. Yes, it could well be that she has whatever element Belserion had and be a slayer of that element, but what if we did something else with that Dragon Power inside her? Now I'm getting into my Chapter 515 prediction ideas here, but imagine this: Erza uses her Dragon Slayer magic to forge a new armour, one that possesses Dragon Slayer magic that either she has, or having her power be from the Dragon of Wisdom, perhaps be able to also use the elements of other Dragons/Dragon Slayers that herself or Irene came into contact to in the past. It gives Erza variety and something new to show off, and while I admit having all of the elements would be too OP and a bit absurd, just think about the positives it would do for her. It gives Erza something new and will rejuvenate her quite stale pattern of fighting. Just imagine Erza pulling out a Dragon Priestess armour, full of the Dragon Power she absorbed from Irene and being able to pull off numerous combinations with the power it contains and her own requip arsenal of weapons. Suddenly there's potential for a lot of combination attacks that Hiro could make look brilliant and a lot of us will love it because it's so good and it's so fresh.

Now, I know this could seem pretty forced and people won't like it, but I think we all need to look at the positives this can bring to the table. It rejuvenates Erza's fights which have been needing something for such a long time and gives the potential for more things to happen because of it. The new magic gives Erza's character new possibilities story-wise too, she could have more a part to play with the dragon slayers and acnologia, and there could even be more things with Irene because of it if Irene isn't killed off. What if Irene agrees to help train the Dragon Slayers once this war is over so they can take down Acnologia for good after her daughter beat her? Erza having this magic can pave the way for a whole joint effort offensive against Acnologia if done right, and if Hiro does it right it could be huge and maybe even bring even more interest into that particular plot point.

So, that's why I believe Erza should get a new type of magic. Let me know what you think of this and whether you agree or disagree. Thanks for reading!

Honestly, most of the things you said are not good. (Still when focusing on forced)

I suggest you think before you think you speak for someone, readers of this forum do not buy the manga from FT and are how many who post weekly? 20? This is irrelevant, completely irrelevant to your opinion.

Speaks as if everyone does not like Erza to win fights or new powers, so because half a dozen guys keep talking shit in this forum.

The guy talks as if everyone hates Erza and does not like her, and that's not how it happens. -_-

I find this to be an easy fix.

Irene is a master enchanter, and realised the drawback of DSM. So how can she solve this? With Dragon armour . This keeps Erza 'the Knight'. It also means dragon power is fixed to something, rather than the person/human. Also we have just seen Anna knit a scarf, so the possibility of armour is there imo.

Maybe Hiro will throw in that you need to have some dragon blood to use this armour, so that Erza is unique. Fine, I'll swallow that. Just make this armour awesome :handgun

Yeah. I'd rather Erza get a new armor set than new magic. I'm hoping Wendy is the one to get an actual power-up from Irene seeing as how they are the same magic-wise. (Both are dragonslayers and enchanters).

This is a joke?
The fight is by Erza, the story is of her mother and her, the power of ERZA's mother, but whoever wins a new can is a WENDY.
I am reading this forum and I am very scared by the level of hatred that the people have against Erza.
All won UP, everyone can win UP, except Erza.

Have to agree. A new armor would make so much more sense than getting a random new magic out of nowhere. What kind of magic would she even get? Erza's shtick is requips, giving her an entirely new magic would change her image and fighting style too drastically imo (unless it's some sort of an upgraded Requip, which I guess I would ok with)

Save that icon, when the fight ends remember him.

It has to be very dishonest to desire a UP of Wendy in place of Erza, Erza's fight against her mother.
Wendy is dragonslayer and will fight against Acnology her UP comes anyway.

If the author did not want to do anything with Erza, then what is the feeling of making her mother the queen of the dragons and the one who created the magic slayer and was in the beginning of everything? It was just to have made a story contained just about her being expert at dating.

I like the idea of Erza getting Dragon Armor instead of slaying magic. What if Erza got a big ass suit of armor like the Dragon Mech from Escaflowne. she could have it transform from dragon mode to armor mode.

I would rather Erza get new magic other than Slayer magic or armor for matter only one armor she can use latter is just not Erza. Besides if that armor survives a fight with acologia it is bs if it doesn't Erza is a liability, and if she doesn't fight acologia it is waste BS INCARNATE GOD TIER CRAP that some people will probably crash multipul sites with flames so intense that Natsu will beg Gray to cool him down. Also there are too many slayers it is getting dull. I would rather her learn to enchant and disenchant her armor in a skyrim fashion and make her a spell sword/enchanter her armors have way better effects that Wendy's spells let them both get an upgrades: Wendy some new mode like Scarlet/crimson sky dragon mode or Sky Queen mode, heck let her half dragonize as long as the antibodies allow her to turn it off like her DF(Very unlikely to happen to her before Natsu especially with the new movie), and let Erza get rid of the armor, she abandons it in most fights any way. This way she takes some of the burdens away from wendy, lets the other get spotlight while still maintaining the fundamental basis of her role while moving past her knight magic, and she could still attack with the big guns but the possibilities are greeter this way.

Personalities are very naive and think that all dragon slayers will be relevant against Acnology ... being that the fight will be summed up in 90% Natsu vs Acnology and the others (Stinge, Rogue, Gajeel, wendy) Dragons of Lacrymas are coadjuvantes of the Coadjuvants. So I do not know the fear of the staff with Erza, and of course she will not have any place in this fight.
Dragon armor would be perfect because her mother is a dragon (obvsrly) and enchant in armor, such as knights who kill dragons (in most tales) the dragon power that was enchanted in armor. (Its perfect, it is one of the few times that the combination of 3 spells is perfect)
