I was wondering, are we bound to having only one FT tournament per year?
Yes, the FT Tournament is a yearly event so only one will be held per year. However, since there is a chance that FT could end this year, I don't know what we'll do for the upcoming years. Perhaps one of the other moderators can answer this.

Seems like I truly am a member of Fairy Tail :datass

EDIT : Just realized its been exactly one year since I joined MH :o

Being a true member of Fairy Tail is good and all, but personally, I'd rather be S-Class of Fairy Tail. That would be a real promotion.

Jokes aside, congratz on the 1 year. You did contribute a lot to the FT section, so either way, your rank is well-deserved. I guess Makarov must be proud of how much you've grown over the 1 year.

A new poll is up. This time the voting is for characters which were under-used or wasted in FT. Apologies for characters I missed that were worthy.

This is actually another interesting poll.

I voted Mirajane, Minerva, and Wizard Saints (Group + GoI).

Mirajane is obvious because she is one of FT's S-Class and was portrayed to be on Erza's level. But she was never given great fights in the past, due to various restraints. Personally, she is one of the most underrated FT mages.

Minerva's situation is very similar to Mira's. Minerva was supposed to be close to Erza's equal in GMG, but due to the plot, she lost to an exhausted and injured Erza, who had her leg crushed by a falling rock after fighting Kagura.

Last, I voted the Wizard Saints because they were probably the most badass group with the greatest potential. I always wanted to see the rest of the TWS, with the GoI being the leading force.. but unfortunately, they were treated as fodders in the Alvarez Arc (with the exception of God Serena of course).

They could practically be called the "Kings of Ishgar". (Queens if there are any female wizards)

I went for Mystogan, Meredy and the GOI + WS.

For Mystogan it's because I feel he was rushed out of the series too quickly. Laxus considered him as the biggest threat in the FF arc and he showed some badass magic despite how short Laxus vs Mystogan was. Had he been kept around it could have led to more Wendy/Mystogan development and the dynamic of having two Jellal's wandering about. On top of this, it would show that Holder Mages can be top tier, though admittedly I'm not sure how Hiro could explain Mystogan's staves becoming more powerful. A good example of Mystogan's wasted potential was the August fight, had Mystogan been around we could have seen Mystogan and Gildarts vs August rather than Cana and Gildarts vs August (this is just my opinion, but Cana shouldn't have been there at all, the family drama was just unnecessary).

I picked Meredy because of her magic + relationships with the rest of CS and Juvia. Maguilty Sense has incredible potential in two different ways: use among allies and use against enemies. Her ability to link an ally to herself is pretty insane even conceptually, it's like a Union Raid but without the needed bonds, however the real potential is with her ability to link two other allies and herself together. The sheer idea of her linking two people like Jellal and Laxus to herself is pretty epic, mainly because those two are beasts singularly, but if you linked them together and merged their Magic Power + Meredy's? That would be something to see. As for her potential against enemies, she'd be a great support mage. Is an enemy too mobile? She can link and damage herself to hurt them. Is an enemy intangible (akin to Juvia)? Maguilty Sodom and Maguilty Rays can help there. On top of her magic not being used to its full potential, I don't think Mashima has given her any real meaningful scene since Tartaros, and even then that was her crying about Ultear. Why not explore her relationship with Juvia or the other members of CS? We know that Juvia and her are great friends, but we only ever get glimpses of it since Jellal's interaction with other FT characters usually take priority. There's also her relationship with the newest members of CS, we know that Jellal and her have a stable and trusting relationship (akin to father/daughter or big brother/little sister) but I can't ever recall seeing her having an actual conversation with any of the OS after the timeskip.

As for the Wizard Saints and the Gods of Ishgar... so much hype was wasted. Wizard Saints in general were pretty hype, because while it doesn't necessarily mean they're THE strongest 10 wizards in Ishgar, they still have to be pretty damn strong to obtain the title, as well having the right attitude and amount of knowledge. Whilst Wizard Saints 10-6 were kind of dehyped in GMG due to Jura being the number 5, that was no sleight against them... until Laxus beat Jura in GMG with just three months of training. Yes, it was an extreme-diff fight, but that doesn't change the fact that a Wizard Saint who trained for seven years got beat by a character who only trained for three months. I don't even care what training Laxus was doing, I just feel bad for Jura and the other Saints. This being said, I could swallow that happening because of how Ooba hyped up the Gods of Ishgar: essentially, they're absolute monsters that no one can touch or even come close to. To make the hype even sweeter, we then got to see Warrod in the Sun Village arc, a guy who afforests deserts for fun and can spawn a 2000 K tree pretty casually. This indirectly hypes the other Gods of Ishgar, they're all above Warrod, and Warrod alone is pretty hype. Then the timeskip happens and we're introduced to Wolfheim and Hyberion, the former being shown as a take-over mage, the latter looking like a vampire. They reveal that God Serena defected to Alvarez, so at this point it seems like Hiro is trying to foreshadow a Gods of Ishgar vs God Serena match. This does actually happen, but they're worfed, used to simply hype God Serena, with them getting wrecked by base God Serena, and then getting annihilated by him when he goes all out. Now to be fair, Hyberion does get a complement from August for his Vampire magic, but the fight was just underwhelming. Not only was the majority of it off-paneled, but the second the GOI start to fight back they just get squashed. And to make it worse, God Serena himself is then worfed to hype Acnologia, meaning that we'll likely never know how powerful they actually are. These guys got screwed over hard, especially since Fairy Tail members have stomped Spriggans who are supposedly on/near God Serena's level. Overall, their placement of power made no sense, not to mention that all of the hype we had since GMG was wasted just to hype a villain who was just used to hype Acno. They could have been so much more, but apparently one year of training not only surpasses Jura's seven years of training, it surpasses it so much that whilst Jura would likely lose to a single God of Ishgar, a Fairy Tail top tier would stomp Jura, Warrod, Wolfheim and Hyberion with ease. I'll never understand why Hiro wasted these guys.

Mirajane - Hiro keeps holding her back. he hates her people!!!!
Mystogan - a gu who should be roughly Laxus' level barely had any screen time. don't get me started on that Edolas arc. waste of potential.
GoI - so much about they are so powerful to the point where they are not human. I mean, I expected for God Serena to beat them but I also expected for GoI to show up sooner to see what their made off, not to mention God Serena who was just a hype tool for Acnologia

Here are my votes:

1) August.
We saw nothing from him. In fact, his potential was so crazy that Mashima needed him to not do anything in battle and then proceed to commit suicide. Such a waste.

2) Brandish.
I still believe her hax is as deadly as Dimaria's, and would rate them o the same level. But unfortunately, Brandish has been utterly trashed in almost every of her apparitions. We still haven't seen anything from her in terms of fights, aside from that farce against Lucy. Oh, and i haven't forgotten how she "lost" to Cana and Lucy due to her allergies. Mashima made her look really pathetic and didn't give her any good feats, though i believe she could have been a formidable opponent.

3) God Serena.
8 Dragon Slaying lacrimas. Nuff said.
Also, a God Serena VS Gildartz fight would have been the fight of the year, considering Gildartz himself hyped GS, and they were portrayed about equals. But nahhh, instead Gildartz got to fight an Historia. Plus, GoI were used to hype GS, and GS used to hype Acno. Sigh.

I was wondering, what would Ars Magia have done to human Acnologia? His reaction would have been THE MOST telling of how deadly the spell actually was. He probably could have hyped it better than Mavis, seeing as Acno is pretty knowledgable when it comes to spells.

Hmm Idk if I'd consider those ones for broTP. Well August/Larcade and Serena/Hyberion never really had a bro moment. And Zeref/August are father-son.

This would be interesting I guess. I'm going to say that Ars Magia can probably kill Human Acno. It's an 'ancient' spell and we know how they can be hyped, so if I'm consistent with that then I can see August killing Acno given Gray could likely seal Zeref. However Mavis also mentioned told people to get into defensive mode, which does suggest imply the chance that they might not have died. So, it depends how you want to look at it I guess.

Well, we have a stare between August and Larcade. A few lines between the WS duo of Hyberion and g. Serena. :cheez I just really want the spriggans and Zeref to win at something. hahaha. Nevermind then.:hi

Acno getting killed by a non-FT character would've been hilarious to see. Too bad we didn't even get to see what Ars Magia could've been capable of.

Sure the recent chapters may have been meh but 2016 was pretty decent imo. It marked the starting of Alverez Arc and we got great things like
Brandish hype in the beginning, (the island part was on fleek:3c)
Marin, (dude's magic was too good)
Erza vs Ajeel, ( A normal erza fight :kappa)
thunder tribe vs Wahl bot (teamwork was too good)
Wendy and Chelia vs Dimaria , (Godsoul was hype)
Gajeel vs bradman (excluding that fake death)
Mirajane Alegria and Seilah,
Kagura , Sting and co vs Larcade
- these were all prettty solid things in 2016 (there may be more, obviously). Sure there were bad things but cmon every manga has those moments doesnt it?;)

Heresy! :hmph

Tbh, out of that list I only liked Wendy and Chelia vs Dimaria and Brandish hype lol.
Every manga has its bad moments but Alvarez is much worse than that imho. Those 'bad moments' don't cause as much of a dip in quality as Alvarez has.

I was just trying to reply to this ^:hmph
I don't get why this fandom (not all,of course) is constantly treating liking ft or considering it to be a good manga a negative thing. ( example is your reply to Irina nominating ft in the manga awards :hmph )
You may find it terrible, but there are still people in here who like ft so you should atleast try respect their opinions ;)

A new poll is up. This time the voting is for characters which were under-used or wasted in FT. Apologies for characters I missed that were worthy.

JK. It's up to you.

There are many underused characters but my vote goes to Mirajane, Brandish, and God Serena.

Mira is the only S-class mage who doesn't have enough screentime to shine/show off her true strength. Didn't manage to defeat Azuma. Nerfed by Mashima-sensei having Lisanna in captivity :fail but I liked the part where Mira said she believed there would be someone that can defeat her opponent. In GMG arc, sensei changed the rules of Mira vs Jenny :fail Tartaros arc, Macro was the perfect counter of her Take Over...

God Serena's hype since GMG, off-paneled battle against 4 Wizard Saints, 4 unknown dragon lacrimas, and death are enough for making me think he is such wasted character.

I even still can remember I ever said that I want Brandish to go all-out when Mest mind-controlled her. Having the title "Country Destroyer" and potential magic "Command T" are no small feats. Too bad that she is going home now...

Honorable mentions: August (his disappearance was just...like that) and Neinhart (his relationship with Irene will remain unknown forever)
Other characters that I think underused too are Juvia, Rogue, Wizard Saints, Lyon, and Merudy.

Larcade, Irene, and August. August and Irene were touted to be among the best mages, and yet they went out by committing seppuku. Larcade lost although he was also hyped.

I voted Mystogan, God Serena and Brandish.

Mystogan because he had the best design along with Erza. And there was so much Mystery with him. I didn't love the Jellal 2.0 development, but could have accepted that. In my opinion Jellal dying in the TOH and keeping Mystogan probably would have been better. Well a Jellal with FT symbol would be pretty OP.

God Serena could've been great. There could have been a subplot with the former WS. I don't mind if he wasted them and caused havoc in the war, and then Gildarts stopped him. That would've been enjoyable. That said, I though Acno's oneshot of him was one of the best bits this arc.

Brandish, on 2 counts... she could have been a good villain... or she could have been used better as a traitor. In the end I think she made a reasonable choice... well she avoided seppuku so I'll take it.

HM - Meldy (though she's never felt like being important, so I changed my vote); and Mirajane (can't argue she's wasted).

I'm fairly sure all of that (that I quoted) was in 2015, not 2016. 2016 I'm pretty sure was after Natsu vs Zeref, so given everything from that to the end of the year, it's been average to disappointing for the most part imo. Some highlights here and there, but poor treatment of the villains really damaged this arc for me and thus FT won't get too much votes from me in this years' Manga Awards. Other series just simply had far better quality to them.
