Whole Deep Plot lately has become just an excuse for un-inteligent readers to feel smart, "I like story that has Deep Plot, so it means I'm smart".
Complex or Deep Plots can be worse than simple ones, they can fall on their own plot threads or be over complicated to a ridicules degree.

Mashima despising FT is no longer news, with all this I find it incredible that both the editor and ueda have wanted Mashima to be part of YQ100. This guy never liked FT, he shouldn't keep writing for YQ100.
