I agree.Remember they said anime will be darker for York Shin arc? They certainly don't want to show Kurapika in the mansion with actual settings. So it should be:

38:66+69.
39(Start of York Shin arc and new design for the anime):67+68.
40:70+71.
I'm positive that the York Shin arc will not start before episode 40

1-13 (they even included the pillow fight + recap, just so they can start the new season on episode 14)
14-26 (adding a canary background scene + recap so that they can start the new season after episode 26)
27-39
It looks like they dont have enough chapters to cover up the last two episodes. and by the looks of it, it looks like they are even cutting some pages that have to do with kite.

So it could either be a recap (unlikely) or an epic, semi filler, flashback

Is it a bit of a stretch to still expect Kite soon?

Though I do like the sound of a Kite episode after the anime takes a break. If that ever happens. Will it ever happen? I kind of both want and don't want it.

OMG. THIS.

THIS IS PERFECTION.

EDIT:

I'm positive that the York Shin arc will not start before episode 40

But I thought the recaps were because of the holidays? Oh wait. Then again, they could have just not shown an episode at all instead of airing a recap.

I'm trying not to hope too much in case I get disappointed. Madhouse, just confirm it already.

I had a long day, so let's get over with...

-EPISODE 37-

Mito's first meeting with Killua wasn't in the manga

Mito did not mention that Gon did not mail her ever since his graduation. With two recap episodes you would think they'll bring it up.

This scene is filler

I thought the music wasn't fitting the mood here. It was supposed to be a happy, goofy moment but they gave it a somewhat suspense music.

Mito's "joke" with the license wasn't as funny as the manga. Especially the lack of the boys' comment how she wasn't joking.

Then we see a mini-adventure montage..... trading off, you guessed it: Kite. Are there any other chances to show his flashback before his official debut? I don't think so. And since we didn't get him, there's no mention of Kon as well.

This short scene was filler

This scene was good and heartwarming. The music was fitting so much.

Here we have two missing information: The first is Gon been home-schooled, and the other is the name of the girl he mentions; "Noko".

Killua describes his mom here. In the manga, this was a silent scene and we don't see Mito's face. When I first read the manga, I thought that was Noko who got mentioned by Gon a moment earlier, but then I realized that it was Mito.

When Mito asks Gon on how long he'll stay, he says that he's going to find Ging. In the manga, Mito asked Gon about it.

We never hear little Ging speaks in any of his scenes. Maybe they couldn't make Rikiya Koyama talk like a little kid or didn't want Megumi to voice him.

Mito was prettier in manga in this moment.

Wait, did Killua steal Gon's bed?! It wasn't clear if he was sleeping on it or on the floor in the manga.

The box opening scene was cool. And, Madhouse shows us how well they know the manga events when the showed the details of the string in episode 30 because they knew it'll be important to this moment.

Hunterpedia got an overhaul.

The episode was good. But again, Kite's absence lowers the rating of another good episode.

7.5/10

One last note: Since this is the first non-Horrible Subs episode that I watch, I noticed this still here after the end of the episode. Does anyone knows or have other stills from previous episodes?

And now... let's see how the old version has destroyed these episodes to me and probably to others as well...

First off, in the manga, Heaven's Arena arc ended with episode 44. But the Whale Island mini-arc wasn't in episode 45, but in 46 instead. Episode 45 was Kurapika-centric. But what's the surprise? This is not the first time he, or should I say "she" get's something before the others! ((Her fight with Hisoka anyone?))

Now to episode 46: We start during the trip home to Whale Island with Killua remembering Illumi's words from the exam, but he calms down after seeing Gon's luggage and remembering Wing's final words before the arrival. Oh, and looks like Gon likes to hang up up-side-down.

I thought this scene was funny

Looks like Whale Island doesn't have any public transportation system, and it takes a long time till Gon's house! But... I thought Killua acted a bit bratty with complaining about the length of the road and the food! I find it strange coming from someone who went through the Hunter Exam beginning to end and called it "boring"...!!

Now to the manga content. Now, I haven't went back to the earlier episodes yet, but is this really Gon's house? It doesn't look anything like in the manga! And Gon keeps comparing everything to Killua's house.

What's with Killua's face here? It's like he's not happy to be there...!!

Mito looks less angrier than how she is in the manga.

Okay, I think we got the main purpose of the episode. It's about Killua and how he tries to adapt to the life of the simpletons! Look how he discovers the wonders of A SCRUB BRUSH!!

And looks like he hates red pepper!

Mito's "joke" with the card was closer to the manga

Of course, Nippon's adaptation was closer to the manga here, except that they left the scene when Gon shows Killua the place where he first met Kite. Poor Kite, he's forgotten in both adaptations...!

After eating the fish, Gon and Killua remain in the forest till evening. Nippon's adaptation changed things a little.

The next day is a filler story about Kon ((Or Konta according to Nippon's adaptation)), his cub and some poachers. The scene dropped a name for the forest that I don't think it was there in the manga.

Then we have ANOTHER filler scene with the boys trying to connect to the internet, followed by Mito asking them to watch the bar and grocery store that they weren't available in the manga for her. In it also Killua sees a picture of Ging for the first time.

Was Killua drinking off-screen? O_o These cups weren't there moments ago...!!!

Here we see Mito praying at a grave. But whose grave is it? We'll find out, along with the second major problem of this arc (We're still not in the first major problem yet)

Then, OMG... ANOTHER filler scene!! Mito cuts Gon's and Killua's hair, and I say it's:

Because we don't see any differences in their hair before and after.

W00t! Manga content! Nippon's adaptation didn't say anything about Noko.

Some imaginary moments of the boys.

When Killua asks Gon about his mom, Nippon's adaptation completely ignored the fact that asking about her is much harder to him than looking for his dad. They also changed the presumed cause of death by making it of illness instead of a car crash.

After that we go back to Kon's cub. No problem so far...

Until we get to the dispute between the boys on what to do with it... Gon wants to keep it alive because he believes that there's a chance to save it, while Killua wants to kill it because he doesn't believe that he got it! He insisted so much that he injured Mito's arm to get her out of his way! And he was about to kill her, until she slapped him on the face. What happened to Killua there?! All of a sudden he turned to a big @$$hole infron of his friend like he has forgotten that he doesn't want to be a killer anymore like he said to Illumi! Like he really got a split-personalty case there!

Then he steps back, and Gon tells him that they can save it........ by using nen......! The same method Wing has used on them to release their nen because according to Nippon's adaptation, nen is in ever living creatures, and that includes plants and animals! But... how is this a healing method again?! Releasing it doesn't cure injuries! And if the cub doesn't learn how to control its nen, it'll run dry and die in the end! But of course they want a happy ending and therefore logic is unnecessary...!

That's not everything... if this episode destroyed Killua's personality, the next episodes destroyed something really important to Gon...

Episode 47: The episode starts with Mito's recovery from last episode, then we see the Pandora box.

All these scenes are filler.

Then we get little Ging. His conversation location with Mito was different than the manga. Ging also looked a tad different and looked more like Gon compared to how he looked in the manga.

Again, no mention of Ging being the first son of the Grandma and Mito is the daughter of her second son, or the fact that Mito's parents were the ones who dies in a car crash in a vacation after Ging's departures, or even Ging's father who got lost in the sea. Nippon's adaptation also made it to be that Gin's wife is actually Mito's sister! But in the manga, Gon's mother was unknown. Another change is the fact that Ging left after his wife's funeral instead of separating from her for unknown reasons. Oh, and he grandma is made to be Mito's mother instead of her grandmother.

In case you're not following the changes, here's the charts to make it simple:

Then we get a filler scene about Gon's desires.

Looks like the anime insists on making Mito much nicer than her manga self.

When talking about Ging's childhood, this scene from the manga got delayed a bit, and the talk about the boat got extended a bit more.

Mito's manga self is still prettier here.

Then another filler scene between Gon and Killua about last night.

Then... do I need to say it?! Another filler scene with Mito trying to retrieve a sheet got blown off by the winds and remembering Ging when he found her.

While trying to open the box, it says that Killua can lift up to 12 tons.

Is it weird that Gon says the marking on the sticks resembles what he saw on Wing's thread, without showing them to us to confirm it?!

The soundtrack was unfitting for the scene of Ging's tape. This was supposed to be a mysterious, suspenseful scene and yet they gave us a soundtrack that didn't make it seems like it!

And these are the faults of Nippon's adaptation of Whale Island's arc so far. They messed up Killua's personality, messed up the usage of nen,and messed up Gon's family and how they relate with Mito's family!

I just watched it. It's incredible that even if I freaking know what will happen, I don't enter here until I see it to avoid spoilers. It has no sense. :derp

Anyway, I deeply enjoyed this chapter. Scenery was awesome. Animation was fluid and in particular I loved the whole art direction of the conversation between Gon and Killua. The music was well fit, sounds were proper and the voices had the exact amount of credibility. It FELT as two friends being honest with each other. Props to Madhouse specially for that scene. Beautiful. I have to make one of these a wallpaper :O
And I like how Madhouse shows Mito nagging, but not in an annoying way. Mito is the best freakin' mom ever. She never forgets to do the laundry.
(...) Do you guys ever skip those when you watch HxH?
LOL! You made my spill my drink xD
And yes. And I watch it with all my attention. I love the OP and the ending. Still trying to figure out the difference between the Departure 1 and departure 2 when it comes to the lyrics.

There is still the open plot on how Gon got Ging's license. So unless they completely change it Kite is still the one who gave it to him.
Nope.

Gon doesn't HAVE Ging's license card as far as we know in the Madhouse anime.

The only clue we have to Kite's existence is the opening.

Surely they won't.
Knowing Kite since he was a kid makes everything Gon goes through during the Chimera Ant arc that much more powerful. If they change it to where he meets Kite for the first time to after Greed Island, I can't see it having as much of an effect. He's there for a few episodes... then bam.
.

I have to say I don't really care for Ging's character design... his face is rather weird. Too narrow/long or something. Think the old anime might have actually been closer o-o

They did the same thing with Wing. His face looks longer from a 3/4ths angle but front view it looks shorter.
I think they did this to make Ging and Wing look more like adults since adults have longer faces.

Still trying to figure out the difference between the Departure 1 and departure 2 when it comes to the lyrics.
Departure 1:

daichi o fumishimete kimi wa mezamete yuku
tenshi no hohoemi de tsuredashite!
kodoku demo hitori ja nai sa
umaretekita koto ni kanarazu imi ga aru

You can smile again
taiyou abite
You can fly away
sekai wa kimi no kagayaki o matteru

sekai wa kimi no kagayaki o matteru
daichi o fumishimete kimi wa mezamete yuku
tenshi no hohoemi de tsuredashite! (you can smile!)
"hajimari" wa itsu demo osokunai sa
nando demo tachiagare!

Departure 2:
nagare ochiru namida yuuki ni kaete yuku
tenshi no hane hiroge maiagare!

saigo made akiramenai sa
yari tsuzukeru koto ni kanarazu imi ga aru
You just try again
yami o nukete
You just go away
mirai wa itsumo bokutachi o matteru
oozora kakenukete unabara koete ike
tenshi no nage kissu tsukamaete! (you can try!)

owaranai bouken ni dekakeyou
itsu made mo doko made mo...

Is this what you were looking for? They just used different parts of the full song for the two openings. Different verses, refrains, choruses and whatnot.

I actually do this too, even though I read the manga. It makes no sense at all, and yet I still do it. :blink

Yeah, I wait too. There are some little things here and there that they add, or go about it, that I don't want to be spoiled on.

Episode 38 : Chapter 66 + 69 ? A cassette tape and Green Island. No filler/Kaito.

Yeah, noticed that as well =3
That's a pretty good choise if you ask me. I mean, with Gon/Killua story cutting midway it feels unfinished imo. I dropped the manga once on that point lol

I'm not sure if anyone saw my post eariler, but concerning kite, and quting myself*which I don't like doing but I REALLY wnat a response here*...
[qoute]
Lets be honest here, aside from the begining of the manga what does kite acctually do before the Chimera ant arc? show up in a flash back or two? thats it. yet why is it we cared about what happened to him and gon in the arc? because he knew gon. Now If gon just met kite, that'd be totally f***ed up, but if we get the flashback then we'll still know what kite means to gon and even better yet its fresh in everyone's minds. The only thing I have a issue with now about this ordeal is the lack of Konsince that does intertwine with Kite, but oh well, we'll see what happens. The way I see it, the only way they can screw this up is by having Gon JUST meet Kite then and not having known him[/quote]

I think something like that could happen.

I think something like that could happen.
But if Kite flashack is placed just before Chimera Ant arc, it will seem plucked out of nowhere.
I mean, they will introduce a new character who opportunely has an important relationship with the protagonist (even if Gon didn't mention him in about 150 episodes), just for "killing" him a few episodes later.
In brief, deus ex machina.

A lot of authors use this resource, it's not the end of the world.
But Togashi didn't use it, and Madhouse will do it, when they had the opportunity of doing things right.
The impression of the series Anime-only fans have will be worse.

The way I see it, it's all fuss about nothing. There is no way Madhouse will have Gon and Kil leave Whale Island without a goodbye. In the manga they just suddenly are gone, no bye bye Mito-san, nothing. I honestly believe they will add that goodbye episode in, just like they added the filler goodbye scene to heavens arena with Wing and Zushi. I'm betting that we will see Kite in a farewell to Whale Island episode which will be episode 39. It'd be the perfect way to end this cour and it will add so much more weight to Gon once again leaving to find Ging. Also the fact that he is leaving to look for Greed Island is also a good reason to have Kite flashback here as Kite is heavily involved with the conclusion of Greed Island arc. It makes sense dont you think? Just hold onto your pants guys, and keep your eyes on episode 39. That will be the episode I'm most interested in as it is the end of the cour.

I sure hope you're right. Otherwise... they will have to shoe-horn it in in the middle of the York Shin arc in some sort of "special episode". Not introducing him prior to GI's ending is TOTALLY unacceptable, though.

Still... Madhouse has proven time and time again that they know what they're doing. Let's hope they don't drop the ball on this one.

Based on this, I think they'll skip Kurapika's return from chapter 67 & 68 and focus on Gon and Killua with Greed Island from chapter 69.

well to shift gears from Kite's absence...

Does anyone know who the animation director was for this episode?

Also how did you think the animation was? Keep in mind this episode wasn't very action packed.
