I finally got my JSQ, very cute story

the art is pretty awesome, I was looking forward to seeing how Komi-sensei does urban futuristic and he did not disappoint. the only downer is that this seems pretty self-contained and a series is probably not doable unless it's a prequel sort of thing. Then again I would hope that Komi-sensei branches out even further to explore other story types.

The premise does seem a little weak though - what's with an entire society conditioned to wear masks? (lost in translation?)

I won't have time to scan this till Saturday night, but how's the quality of this scan? Does it even need another person scanning it?

Plus, by the time it reaches the last page, the bubble just got stuck in the binding fold . . . so . . . it can be translated, but it surely isn't something that Manga Editor can produce any good Edited Manga from it . . . >.>" (since we have the binding problem, the page is not straight, some part got cut out by the margin of the scans, and bleeding problem as well . . . >_<")

I'd say . . . yep, someone else should scan it. Nothing can really be done much from this one.

Good manga though. Interesting. Too bad it's just an one shot . . .

I really like the style of this a lot more than Double Arts. I hope he gets to make a series out of this. I can't read it sadly. Hope someone scans it.

I (as part of Nihil Sine Nefas) put up a Edited Manga of the existing camshot & Kirimi's translation. I had to use a PHP script to remove (as much as I could) the distortion from the angle of the camshot, and some gradients to equal out the lighting, but of course it still came out pretty LQ (and since I did it all last night, the cleaning got pretty crappy towards the end).

It's here, for any interested parties. We'll probably release a higher-quality version if someone scans it and posts the raws.

This is a truly great oneshot. Not manga manga have such direct themes. I loved what it said at the end about how we should live our lives by taking off our masks. Great metaphor.

i have to agree, it was very good, i also picked up on the metaphor of the masks, which is very much komi's style. but again, it shows his gooie-two-shoes side, where every story has a moral of some sort written within it and is revealed at the end.
i like that about him, but i'm sure younger readers look at it as old fasioned or lame.. which is one reason why younger people didnt like double arts, it didn't have enough action or ecchi per chapter to attract the younger readers like naruto, bleach, & To-Love-Ru do. there was only one maybe 2 ecchi-ish scenes with Elle in the shower, and the action was just about to get going as it ended.

let's hope with what ever komi comes up with next, it will do well and not have any "anti-fans"...lol

Considering that I still think DArts wasn't cancelled for mere popularity reasons, they probably try to get him back with a different concept seeing that he gets two oneshots in such a short time.

Hello Baby and Personant are the two best oneshots I ever read. I tend to dislike pilot oneshots that set up a series but are just oneshots. I wonder why some artists bother making a first chapter of a series if they already made a pilot that sets up the same premise and characters with no differences. Kind of like Toriko.

Most one-shots are used as a way to sell a possible series to the publisher. But Komi's one-shots tend to be self-contained and wrap themselves up so there's no chance of a series. The only exception I think is Koi no Kami-sama ...which became Double Arts

wow, i had never heard of Koi no Kami-sama, but i found it @ mangatraders and downloaded it. it was pretty good. i kind of like island and personant better, but it's got it's own feel compaired to the others, and is set in modern times, which is unusual for Komi.

I think I uploaded the raw, but I have no idea if I even uploaded it to the right place (I'm terribly confused by the new system) or if it is still even needed. Once the translator I'm working with is done with his translation, I'll do an MQ Edited Manga.

The part about Damore having Personant powers and at the same time having the ability to nullify Personant... it reminded me of the implied link between Kiri's powers and the Gazelle.

Plus Damore's capriciousness and brooding good looks made me think he could be a descendant of Sui and Farran.

Nah, I thought there were more. I suppose the only one I have yet to read is Koi no Kami-sama.

Sweet, the Personant oneshot is up at onemanga. After reading it, the personants seems similar to what was in the story of "Harrison Bergeron" and another short story I've read a long time ago.
