Re: Manga Mommies' Corner

wow, I didn't expect that here is such corner, and that are "mommies" besides WL ^^" I only will write that when I read that all things I can only say: It's amazing! I don't know how someone can be a mom or dad and read manga (or have such a hooby) (and not, I don;t want to be rude, it's because it's first time I see this on such site xD). You all mommies and dadies are now my idols :D ;p
But I have a question/opinion (I have now a chance ;p):
From the moment before I read this topic I was always thinking that when I will be father, I will end with manga (or anime). After reading this I don;t know, but probably a&m is more like some narcotic and you never end this. So I ask, did You have such minds before beieng a parent, and if yes, I would like to have an opinion about was it good to stay manga fan, or not?
That's all :D And thx for someone who will answer to that : )

In what regards? My work and my social life? Or this site?

Where I am and work is due to my wife living here, and this job pretty much the only thing I could find (I teach english :p)

My site, well I've always liked building sites and translating and forums so I combined them to create this :D. On the way I've made friends with quite a few people and they've been able to help out and make this site as big as you see it now :D.

It's just my work (my part time jobs) and this site takes up quite a lot of my time, so much so that I spend more time on my pc even when at home that I really don't spend as much time with the family as I should

well yeah that basically explains it, but what I meant was did you plan it this way, or did you have other plans and it just turned out this way for the few reasons you already mentioned.

All names have a meaning, but the modern German names don't have a "clear meaning" anymore. Sometimes you can guess what it means but mostly you have to look it up^^

No, it's my hobby and i never planned on giving it up. When you lose time or interesst in it, you can't help it .. but you should never plan to trash something away that you enjoy just because you're an adult or a parent now :p
And yes, it's good to be a manga fan and a parent. My kids enjoy it with me and I feel closer to them as parents that aren't interessted in "kids stuff". When talking about that topic (manga/anime, animated series, comics, ...) with other parents, I can give my opinion and informations first hand through my own view, that can come handy sometimes.

Re: Manga Mommies' Corner

Hey guys... I'm not a parent, I'm an uncle though; to my sisters two sons.
I have a question to ask to the parents here however.

I wanted to ask if, I don't really know how to ask, but have you noticed if your kids forget people they don't see too often?
My one nephew is one and a half, the other is three and a half. Last year I visited them every break I got from school, at least 6 times in the year. This year though.. my sister is trying to have another baby, and my brother in law is having a lot of stress with his new job and it was best that I not visit them. So I haven't really seen my nephews in at least 5 months.

When he was younger, the old one would talk to me on the phone, now he doesn't so much even though my sister says he smiles when I talk to him sometimes. When I visit, if they don't necessarily remember me, they get used to me within the hour, but I just wanted to know if you've noticed that children forget people at this age?

I'm asking because I may not see them for a while next year, I'll be going to the army and the older one will be starting school so, in case I don't get a chance to visit again this year it'll be at least 2 years till I see them again. And afterwards I plan on going to law school and I don't really know how much time that'll take up.. anyway I guess it's kind of silly of me to be worried over it, but I dunno I would just like to hear from parents? And please be honest, don't try to make me feel better by saying they won't forget me; do kids forget people at some point of not seeing them?

Question for the manga parents. When do you think is a good age to introduce manga to your kids? Not that I'm going to have kids anytime soon but y'know how kids don't like to do the same thing as parents so if you introduce manga to early does it scare them away.

Hm, such a considerate uncle ;) It's so cool!

To tell you the truth, from what I know, 1,5 year old kids do forget people (and everything else) after some time, and that's completely normal. It's the same as when you teach a little kid a foreign language, but after he/she doesn't have a contact with the language/anyone speaking in it, they will forget and have to learn right from the start. You'd have to ask someone who knows more about the memory stuff, I'm no expert.

So, I hope you don't take it to yourself, because that's just how it is. If the older one is 3,5 y/o, that should be the age when they do remember, at least a person they've had some contacts with. Showing them pictures, telling stories and such help kids remember, but that kinda depends on the parents.
Don't worry to much, if the younger forgets, that only means when you'll meet next time he'll be older and you'll get to know each other from the start. You'd have to do that anyway, 2 years change everything ;)

Good luck to you, and I hope you'll stay such an awesome uncle :Gaipose

I know what you mean, though I don't think in a manga/anime case it'd be a problem.
Well, I don't really hide the manga from my kid, so she's been more or less introduced already, kind of naturally. It's hard to say whether she'll be a manga fan when she grows up, but for now she likes it, most kids do I think.

Hope you and your kids have a great year, dear parents. Keep rocking! O0

Well I didn't actually get into anime or manga until my kids were 6 and up. So you could say I am a late bloomer. Before that I watched cartoons with my kids and read kids books with them as well so in that respect nothing has changed.

Yes young children forget people that they don't see very often. The older they get the less this happens. My youngest nephew is a year and half now. When he was one year old we went on a three week trip to visit family in another state and his dad had to stay home. He was afraid that Luke would forget him. They talked on the phone everyday for short periods of time since 1 year olds don't have a long attention span. When we got home luke was a little hesitant when his dad wanted to pick him up but in a very short amount of time (3 hours or so) Luke was having a great time with daddy agian. I often only see my nephews for maybe once a month. Luke is often a little hesitant at first but it doesn't take long before he is enjoying time with me and snuggling with me again. Children don't really develop long term memory until around the age of 3 and older. So as long as you act like nothing is wrong/diffierant when you are reintroduced to your nephews it shouldn't take long before you are having lots of fun times again.

A good age would be as soon as they seem interested in it. Of course you wouldn't be showing them more mature stuff when they are young but even very young children can enjoy looking at the pictures and having you read the stories to them. It all depends on how much charactor you bring to your story telling and if they are interested in looking at the images.
