I'd like to see Natsu get a proper beat down now. Lately he's become very overconfident in his abilities, and a good lesson in humility is in order. Hopefully August kicks his ass.
How has Natsu been OVERconfident when he's been doing nothing but oneshotting Spriggans left and right? He hasn't taken any Ls yet this arc (except against Zeref but that really wasn't his fault) and he hasn't done anything stupidly rash, so I don't see why he needs a lesson in humility. I mean, it's not like he thinks he can take August by himself or anything. Where is this overestimation of his abilities that you speak of?
I have the official Kodansha scans of the page. I can't post them here because of the new policies, but I can tell you what they say. It was implied that Zirconis had more to say. This is what he says: "He managed to destroy nearly all of the dragons. And that was 400 years ago. All that's left...is to tell you..." I don't think he was addressing Natsu specifically, though he might have. It sounds like he was about to talk about something important, but then got cut off.
I'm pretty sure all he said was that he wondered what kind of magic August used and stuff like that. I don't remember him ever talking about wanting to fight him alone.

IMO that line was just for comedy, I highly doubt Natsu really would try to solo August if given the chance, especially since at this point he's already aware of how much magic power August has.

Remember Invel said demons have some instinct, that's why he is confident to defeat S-class mages of FT members like he say when he fought Zancrow and he said:"Hades , you will defeated by my hands."
This is an idea that stems from the most recent fight in the manga between Natsu Dragneel and Zeref Dragneel. Or more specifically, I'll be analyzing three fights here:
-Natsu Dragneel vs Zeref Dragneel(Round 1)
-Natsu Dragneel vs Jacob Lessio
-Natsu Dragneel vs Zeref Dragneel (Round 2)
Of course, since Natsu returned last chapter and it seems like the fight might continue, all of this is subject to change. So for now this might be a premature analysis more than anything.
Now, on to the main part of the theory:
One thing I'm sure that most people noticed in the past few chapters was the fact that the whole time that Natsu was fighting Zeref in the Guild Hall, he never once used his Flame Dragon King Mode. Why was that? Now, the go to argument of course would be that he knew that he was fighting in the Guild Hall, so he subconsciously held back, like in the earlier fight with Jacob Lessio of the Spriggan 12. But in Chapter 531's ending, the argument is debunked since Natsu entered Dragon Force, a mode which should be stronger than Flame Dragon King Mode.
And in the previous page, he told Mavis to back off, meaning he was well aware of the destructive capacity of Dragon Force. All throughout the fight, he was engaging Zeref in base form, and didn't even once use Flame Dragon King Mode.
Also, at the beginning of the fight, Zeref said this:
"The power of Igneel is gone."
At first glance, it seems that he's talking about the remainders of Igneel's leftover magic that Natsu used in their first bout, but I don't think that was all of it exactly. He was also referring to Flame Dragon King Mode. Because the first time Natsu used the mode, was after he unleashed Igneel's magical power.
So basically, what we can infer from this is that, Natsu entering FDKM was due to Igneel's magical power. When he was fighting Zeref, he used a combination of:
Blaze Dragon King Mode + Igneel's flames, which should be his strongest mode to date.
Now, the argument that pops up should be, why was he still able to use that mode against Lessio? The answer lies in this:
^Notice the middle panel. There's still some of Igneel's leftover magic left for Natsu to use in his final attack on Zeref. But since Happy stopped him, does it mean the magic just gets lost in the air? No, the magic recedes into Natsu's body, much similar to how he was the first time he used Laxus's Lightning against Hades.
So, the magic is now at a minimal level in his body, right? When does he next use FDKM?
And the magic ends up evaporating the lake, plus taking out Lessio.
Therefore, Natsu ends up exhausting FDKM, which was a direct result of Igneel's remaining magic.
Of course, if Natsu does use this mode in the story later on, I'll rescind on this theory. But for now this is my take on why he's never used it since his fight with Lessio. It's not that he 'won't' use it, it's more like he 'can't use it anymore.
Natsu can still use Fire Dragon King spells. The attack he used against Zeref was a Fire Dragon King's Demolition Fist. If he can use the spells, then there's no real reason he cannot use the mode. The mode is just when he covers himself with the flames. If he can generate the flames to attack, he can generate the flames to cover himself. Keep in mind that Natsu only used one single FDK mode attack against Zeref with Igneel's power. Just one. The majority of FDK attacks have been done without Igneel's power, and the majority of attacks done with Igneel's power were not FDK attacks. I don't actually see any reason to assume that Natsu can only use FDK mode with Igneel's power.
Natsu did not use Igneel's power against Jacob. Natsu said that he can only use Igneel's power once. I take this at face value. Natsu never used Igneel's magic power before or after he used it against Zeref. You even show panels of Natsu telling Happy to "let him go before Igneel's power runs out" and Happy commenting on how "if only he didn't stop Natsu at that time". Neither statement would make much sense if Natsu actually went on to use Igneel's power against Jacob. None of this happened. The justification that this was similar to what happened on Tenrou doesn't work either. Natsu exhausted his magical power after using LFD roar, and that would have included all the power Laxus gave him. What happened was that Ultear restored the Tenrou Tree, and that replenished some of Natsu's own magical power. The LFD he used afterwards was with his own magical power. If Natsu truly did use Igneel's power against Jacob, then I would expect to see the dragon tattoo on his arm. Or Natsu should have been as exhausted as when he went FDK mode against Zeref. Or Jacob should have died.
The reason Natsu was in base mode was because he didn't want to destroy the guild, and was only willing to use attacks that would destroy the guild as a last resort. That's why Natsu apologized to Makarov last chapter after blowing a hole through the side of the wall. Natsu never had to use anything other than base mode prior to chapter 531, because Zeref never did anything to gain the upper hand. Once Zeref did gain the upper hand, Natsu had to resort to dragon force. This probably meant that FDK mode wouldn't have cut it, because Zeref escalated the fight from a point in which Natsu can handle in base mode to a point where he would need Dragon Force.
Good analysis. Sadly, we can not see if there is a remaining mark in Natsu's arm before hitting Jacob.
Anyway, I still see the Dragon Force as the most powerful mode, since from the beginning of the series much emphasis was placed on this power . I think he can still enter in FDKM (mainly because the spell in Chapter 433), but without the same intensity as if he did with the power inherited by Igneel.

If Natsu truly had Igneel's power after the fight with Zeref, Hiro would probably have made it as obvious as possible. He wouldn't go out of his way to hide it. There would be a money shot of Natsu's arm with the tattoo.
The problem with using FDKM it has uncontrolled aura even though it is weaker than DF.It may have very well melted the Guild hall even before the fight starts.
Moreover Igneel's power disappeared in chapter 466 itself,so he did FDKM with his own power.Kind of reminds me of those theories that "Natsu was always using Igneel's power".
I assume the mode has just been forgotten like LFD mode. He can use FDK spells while in Dragon Force so i suspect thats what he'll be doing from now on. FDK spells + Dragon Force>FDK spells + FDK mode. Though mixing an FDK spell with DF seems to require an enormous amount of effort.

DF traditionally consumes a ridiculous amount of magic power, to the point that Natsu's chuffed out after one spell.
Against Zero (Flame Lotus: Phoenix Sword)
Against Mard Geer (Flame Lotus: Phoenix Sword)
Against Zeref (FDK Demolition Fist)
FDKM probably just replaces LFDM as Natsu's signature power-up form in which he could cloak himself in different magic and throw out enough battle spells with.
Either way, I doubt we'll see FDKM and/or DF from here on out, given that we're near the end of the manga (no pun intended).
Flame Dragon King spells are just normal Fire DS spells which have more intense flames. These flames were copied from Igneel, and acquired in essentially the same fashion as LFD.

I think this is true, at least from a story telling perspective Hiro would go out of his way to make sure we know.
To be honest, the tattoo's themselves are a bit confusing. Gray for example has a tattoo when he uses DeSM (vs Invel), yet he didn't in Hargeon. One could argue Gray is using Silvers MP whenever he sports the tattoo, I guess.
