Not liking nami's hair too and her voice, or more exactly i feel it doesnt fit her character or how I see her. tho I just love sanji and zoro the most.
I don't think the trailer really did Rudd favours or room to show her chops. One expositionary tongue twister and two short lines of "Marvel banter". From the BTS material Emily seems like perfect Nami. Just her energy. And also:

If that scene, arguably the most important scene of season 1, got a 10/10 approval from Oda, I have all faith that she did absolutely stunning work as Nami.

(The wig looks better in promo stills btw)

Also, there is an insider rumour going around, saying that most of the vfx material in the trailer is like an year old already, and has been greatly improved on ever since. Which sounds very promising if true - if all that is glorified pre-viz the end product bound to be beautiful.

It is reliable ?
Probably not. None of the this far reliable sources have mentioned any of this, and their Twitter feed looks pretty shady in the first place as it seems they just want people join their Telegram group. I also have a vague memory that this account shared fake/super vague "hints" and spoilers before about the manga.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

I recommend for OPLA leaks/rumours https://twitter.com/OP_Netflix_Fan?t=RP-o8dzpPNFTYtmUYS0mBg&s=09

They found most cast and crew like half an year ago, and even got the August 31st release date like 2 months ago. 90% reliable I say.

I read this story of non-advanced post-production under EVERY trailer that comes out with poor CGI (and here the CGI is not the only problem), but every time, when the finished product comes out, not only does it not improve but it turns out that what they showed was the least worst....

A trailer should entice the viewer to see a product, especially in the modern era, where the public is constantly bombarded with an infinite number of choices and where you can't watch everything, what's the point of showing a badly done temporary crap if the purpose is attract the public?

But one thing is what makes the actor or actress transpose in public, another is what transposes on the screen.

From those few scenes that I saw in the trailer, Nami LA didn't convince me, she seems excessively sullen and harsh to me, far from the cheeky and mischievous Nami of the first One Piece......

This is disgusting. What the fuck is this americanised version of Luffy that I looked at ?
Also, the trailer emphasised a bunch of crap. Nice cgi on Loard of the Coast there, but is that really important? What is supposed to catch me up on this show? Luffy is following his dreams? What is it?

Idk, the Anime had such a badass intro, which is taken straight from the Manga, and that should have been the trailer, you know Roger's execution and the speech, then cut to Luffy from chapter 1, then Flash through the main cast, that's a good trailer (and essentially the anime opening).

It is reliable ?
It is kinda because that's just a description of Netflix' business model. Shows that don't meet the expectations get canceled, at least after their second season.

Not liking nami's hair too
I don't get the reason why they have to use a wig. Nami is one of the few female One Piece characters with a natural hair color, dye should have been the first choice here.

I guess it's because they went with ridiculous cartoon hair for Zoro. Also not a fan of that either, should have been green-shaded black hair instead.

Gosh, Sanji is going to look so stupid...

But in fact, that's the problem with the trailer.

If its purpose is to appeal to the casual viewer IMHO it doesn't do a very good job

Actually that doesn't match actually at all what Netflix execs have said. A while back in an investor event they talked about "finding their own Star Wars" (a franchise that can generate content and merch for decades and decades) and listed future tentpole projects they are hopeful will fulfill that role, One Piece was among them.

So no, I don't think they went on with the intention that it'll be short series. Sure, they'll axe it if it doesn't fulfill their (usually insane) criteria of success, but no, they are not going in half-hearted even if one(!) random bullshit leaker in Twitter says so.

Are you a casual viewer though? No, you are extremely predijuced franchise enthusiast. What I've seen and heard from casual general reactions channels, friends, nerds who do not read the series, is generally positive. Most people hating are "ultra fans"

But doesn't this contradict the fact that live action was thought of as a bridge to bring people closer to the manga?

As a fan, I don't see how a trailer like this could appeal to casual viewers.

But in general, if the intent of Oda and I assume Shueisuha is to bring people who don't know One Piece, this live action doesn't seem like the right example.

Trust me, I got the opposite impression.
To date, it is the ultra fans who defend this live action at any cost.

Look, if the story of Oda's involvement is true, maybe there's an explanation:

The actress had already cut and dyed her hair properly, so much so that she had already posted a photo of her "Nami" look on Instagram months ago, the fact that here there are scenes where her hair is obviously fake and others where instead they look more natural makes me think that Oda has pissed off about it, but the scenes that had already been filmed had to be modified... by the way, nobody noticed that there is also a moment where the actress has dark eyes instead of her clear ones and it's the same scene of the retouched hair...

These changes have only worsened the aesthetics of her in my opinion. So Nami looks too much like a cosplay.

No? Plus what are you referring to?

As a fan, I don't see how a trailer like this could appeal to casual viewers.
You are so extremely biased, that your view on this doesn't hold much credibility on this

Trust me, I got the opposite impression.

You should probably Google what ultra fan means, especially in context of football. People with positive outlook here are definetly not the ultras.

Another implication that Oda lies. Such a respectful fan you are.

... or simply said, some of this material is over an year old, as the rumour you just destroyed and denied said, and looks lot better after more work?

You really are something. "They say this material is old?? Must be lies.... anyways now I have a theory the material is inconsistent because some of it is old and has been improved later"

No? Plus what are you referring to?
So decide: do they want to do something that interests fans or something that appeals to the casual audience?

In the first case, an ultra-faithful live action might appeal to the former, but I don't know how interested a casual viewer might be...

I don't know which environments you frequent, but I see that people are defending this trailer by the sword, they are above all the ultra fans of One Piece.

Just try making a critique on reddit and get eaten alive.

I mean with a budget like that, you can be sure they have high hopes in this franchise.

A while back in an investor event they talked about "finding their own Star Wars" (a franchise that can generate content and merch for decades and decades) and listed future tentpole projects they are hopeful will fulfill that role, One Piece was among them.
This one though makes me worried. Star Wars is bad. There is something I like about the Lucas movies, but they all reproduce what they warn about; fascist leader Darth Vader is the most popular characters as which many people also like to dress up their kindergarten child (yikes), they line up their Lego Stormtroopers as a military parade. The movies all play around with painting militarism as "cool" and evil as "fascinating", - and all for the sake of selling merchandise.

Now that we are in open war with Russia in Europe, closer to WWIII than ever before, I am starting to think Star Wars was terrible for society. A prime example of how a well intended story (that is, if Lucas is to be trusted, he's not, he is a capitalist) about capitalist democracy always turning into fascism, turns into exactly what it has been warning about.

Can't get this scene from the Clones Wars series out of my head, where a wounded Clone Soldier gets executed by Battle Droids via headshot, all in PoV. I was working in a Kindergarten at that time, Clone Wars was the kids favorite show...

Also a prime example of what a sick society America is, no tits, no romance, the only reason why Asoka Tano was retconned into the Star Wars Universe despite this being a major contradiction to the films is that the actual female lead character, Padme, is all about romance so her role had to be toned down significantly...but hey let's showcase executions and warfare in graphic detail in a kids show. Absolutely sick, it's disgusting!

This is the series that killed the anime mania here in Germany, that had been built up over decades by German financed, left leaning original Japanese anime like Vickie or Biene Maja, all destroyed over night by this CGI abomination.

If the Live Action is a success, I can't wait for it's CGI animated spin-off series; One Piece: The Timeskip Wars.
It's about the war Marco vs Blackbeard, I mean who doesn't like a bunch of heroic right wing dudes from fighting a pointless war for revenge. Main character is Koby though, because why be a Pirate if you can join the Navy. Hibari will be replaced by a new sidekick, though, because clearly the romantic undertones of the character could traumatize kids.

But doesn't this contradict the fact that live action was thought of as a bridge to bring people closer to the manga?
Shueisha is a print media company, wherever they give away their licenses, it only serves the purpose of increasing the sales of their print media (including digital "print" media, before anyone is nitpicky), be it the anime, video games, merchandise or now this Live Action series.

Yeah, but how do they hope to attract new fans with something that's obviously just for fans?

I am the Ultra. I don't even like Manga anymore tbh. HxH is the only series aside from One Piece that I am still reading.

Most of what you describe as ultras probably have an Anime/Manga perspective rather than a radical One Piece perspective (which is mine).

The characters in the trailer look like cosplays, there is a huge emphasis on action and masculinity, which are also indicators that this is going for an "anime fans" audience... Meh.

Yeah, but how do they hope to attract new fans with something that's obviously just for fans?
I think the above answers that question. Most popular anime lately was Demon Slayer.

Can't get over the fake hair. If Sanji's like that, too, I am going to create my first meme: Wigs of the Pirate King.

Jesus Christ you are the epitome of german guilt.

Vader is the blueprint of a failed hope turned bad guy with a redemption at the end of his life.

Also its dress up. But you maybe also have problems if kids dress up as indians and cowboys because of "kulturelle Aneignung".

What? Why do I need to pick? I never said anything against the other and they are not mutually exclusive goals neither.

Since its a different medium they obviously can't do it 1:1

Why, is your vision reliable instead?
Atleast it is based on information. Videos seen, articles read, friends and family talked with. It's not a massive take of people, but atleast it is a take and not just "I think that people think this"

I don't know which environments you frequent, but I see that people are defending this trailer by the sword, they are above all the ultra fans of One Piece.
Ultra is an existing term that refers to "fans" who use the subject of the fandom as an excuse to vent aggression and often go as far that for an outsider it doesn't seem they are fans as all as they disregard even official statements from the subject. As I said, Google, don't misuse terminology.

Just try making a critique on reddit and get eaten alive.
Funny. Here I am, getting attacked by you again, while I never criticized your opinion in the first place. All I did was reply to if a source was trustable that no, probably not because... and here we go. All I say, all sources I show, all personal opinions I have are apparently lies and shit.

And you feel attacked.

And when would I have hinted at such a thing, in the message you quoted?
in the exact quote. Or do you not understand what "if" means? Maybe you are just really understanding emglish that well.

There is no need for an if, since Oda himself has made statements that he is involved. When you say "if its true that Oda" that means that you doubt the truthfulness of the info, the info signed by Oda himself. So you imply, he might lie.

Again with this story.

I again don't quite understand what you are saying. But I don't think you understand how film industry works. Rendering a single cgi shot can take days - scene weeks. This trailer had to go thorough so many approvals and file type exports, that it was actually made months ago. It's not like they cut the trailer on Friday and show it on Saturday. It takes months jist the trailer. They however need marketing material before everything is finalfinal_truefinalversion_2.jpg, so thus stuff in trailers is not final. Just look at fucking Sonic film - they changed a whole character model based on trailer reaction.

Besides, the CGI wasn't that bad. Not the best, but not awful.

But why do you keep inventing things that I wrote ?
But that's what you wrote? They did a thing, Oda didn't like, they re-did and changed things. Which means inconsistency in wigs for example. That's what you said right?

The same thing as in the rumour - that material on trailer is old and it's in better shape now.

Text comprehension 0.

He NEVER mentioned being attacked here.

I just pointed out how they mostly give ultra fans of One Piece to defend this trailer to all so much, so much so that if you try to make criticisms of any kind on reddit you will literally be eaten alive.

If these 18 million have been spent on the costumes, the scenography, and the CGI seen in the trailer, we're doing just fine....

Jesus Christ you are the epitome of german guilt.
And you are right wing, there is no denying it. This is profoundly the vocabulary used by people who identify with right wing groups (in Germany). Non German users may not get the codes used here, which you use to your advantage to spout out your nonsense all the time.

Heck, you can watch Interviews of Lucas himself telling you what it is all about. Cannot be bothered by your manipulative ignorance here.

Also its dress up. But you maybe also have problems if kids dress up as indians and cowboys because of "kulturelle Aneignung".
See, this here for example is adressing a political debate going on in Germany that is entirely invented by the right to hurt the left.

No one ever said anything about kids not being allowed to dress up as cowboys or anything. And you cannot jump from an analysis about the development of Star Wars from an (apparently) well intended idea into the exact opposite to this stupid bullcrap that is coined only by followers of the AfD, the German far right wing party with neofascist tendencies.

Btw this year I was a Pirate, but previous years I was a Mexican, because I got a Poncho from my grandparents that they got from a friend who had a tourist agency and who bought it in Peru in the 70s - probably for a peanut. There goes your "kulturelle Aneignung". It's really warm great costume for February.

Another implication that Oda lies. Such a respectful fan you are.
But the truth is, Oda does. It also doesn't have anything to do with being disrespectful if it's intended to be seen through.

There is no lie here in place though because all we've actually got about his involment are vague and unprecise statements (like he was "involved a lot"), or expected social norms (that he is positive about it, but not really why).

What we can infer now from the trailer is that this has quality. I mean just compare Lord of the Coast with the CGI dragon from Witcher S1. They weren't joking about the budget.

What we can also infer is that while the style is consistent, it also differs significantly from Oda's depiction of East Blue saga in terms of general tone. It's very dramatized (while in the Manga it is the most underdramatized part of the story), it's very bright while in the Manga (even with the true Manga colorings like orange Pearl and not the anime color schemes most people are familiar with) it's the least flashy.

And honestly, it's super meh. I can recognize the characters. But it's not East Blue Saga.
What it is, it is very American, and definitely in line with previous attempts of American anime-to-live-action.

Was hoping this would be the case, but good to have it confirmed; the seiyuu for the anime Straw Hats will be doing the Japanese dub of the live action! Very cool.
