Was hoping this would be the case, but good to have it confirmed; the seiyuu for the anime Straw Hats will be doing the Japanese dub of the live action! Very cool.

LOL at the dubs VS subs line at the end .

Have to admit their marketing is great. Almost makes me want to watch this .

Nah, the anime VAs are great, at least Mayumi Tanaka and the Franky VA where handpicked by Oda, with the letter being a close friend of Oda to begin with.

The thing is, even with the original VAs, they cannot hide significantly altered aesthetics.
And, yeah, its meh from what they've shown so far.

Who knows, maybe the heavy marketing around getting up and personal with the cast and staff is all about ending this relationship in a "warm death", where you like someone so much you cannot bear to criticize them, yet the relationship still has to end because there is too much criticism built up?

Honestly, a large part of the community already seems in that state. The show is upcoming next month or something, this product should have been by all means the major focus of the One Piece community - but it somehow isn't and I think that can only be due to a lack of convincing material.

Okay my two cents. No i am not excited about Live Action One Piece as much as I would like to be.
OP is too long to be adapted into LA. Obviously they are not going to adapt every Arc up until Wano or Egghead, that would cost trillions of dollars.
I do wonder how many episodes or "Seasons" / Arcs they will adapt. It would be great if they made it to Alabasta, because after Alabasta the OP craziness sets in and we see a new world of diverse characters.

Netflix being netflix I can see them doing one season of 10 -one hour long episodes. I can see the East Blue up until Rogue Town before the GL being the end of season 1. Ideally they should not take too long per episode, like the anime lol. Morgan and Alvida can be handled in the first episode. Buggy can take 2. Usopp and Kuro maybe 2. Baratie another 2, Arlong Park maybe 3 and Rogue Town 1. That makes exactly 10.

But then after Season 1 is done and if they want to continue it, then we'll have to wait another full year for another 10 episodes. I do not enjoy waiting that long and that is problem with Netflix. They take a whole year for 10 episodes. The episodes are great but the waiting time is too long and by then the actors get older or stuff happens.

Another huge thing that I am not looking forward to after seeing a few glimpses is, anime can not be fully adapted to live action. Animes have characters with wacky designs, green hair, orange hair, pink hair, long spiky blonde hair, monster-like appearances, etc etc.
Buggy looks hideously creepy and thats not something you expect from seeing him in the manga but in LA , it scared the shit out of me and not in a horror funny way. How will Arlong with his saw-like nose look like or the rest of the Fishmen, I feel like they will look creepy AF.
Imagine Moria or others.
Also while the Sea King from chapter 1 looks menacing and huge and cool, I think they over did it. They put too much effort on it. Because now I can only expect for the next Sea monsters to look even more terrifying and awesome. Especially the Neptunians.

The gum gum pistol punch looked wacky and honestly if the fighting scenes are not the best part of the LA at this point, then they have no business continuing because as we all know, East Blue is the basic of basic fighting. it ain't until Enies Lobby that we see the action spike up to another level. If Netflix cant get it right in the East Blue then I have no hope.

The only way to improve it would be to hand off the rights of production to Disney/Marvel. Say what you will about them but when it comes to CGI and LA of comics, they do an amazing job that has no equal. Look at Pirates of the Carribean, Davy Jones and his fishman looked great.
Marvel Avengers have CGI that is out of this world. They should be the ones to be producing One Piece Live Action.

• Season 3 - Jaya/Skypiea
• Season 4 - Water 7/Enies Lobby

• Season 6 - Amazon Lily/Impel Down/Marineford
• Season 7 - Sabaody/Fishman island
• Season 8 - Punk Hazard/Dressrosa
• Season 9 - Zou/Whole Cake

They definitely won’t go so far and same goes for the actors. My guess is that everybody signed contract agreements to do seasons 1 and 2 with an acceptable ending for the live action at season 2 - of course season 2 will be subject to season 1 audience performance for its revalidation. Then Netflix will see whether they propose the crew to sign new contract agreements for an additional 2-season package with another acceptable ending at season 4 - of course seasons 3-4 won’t be mandatory for the live actors and its general fate will entirely depend on the overall success of the TV show.

If they make it past season 1. I watched a lot of Netflix shows, and most of them do not make it past Season 1, hahaha!

What first surprised me is that this thread has been here since 2017. They have been trying to make a Netflix season 1 from 2017. It's been six years. Does that mean they will do the same for season 2? Oh man!

Keeping a ball rolling takes less work than getting it rolling in the first place. The producers, directors, writers, show-runners and main cast are all on board, most of the crew from season 1 will carry over, many of the sets are built etc. Of course they'll need to find new actors for new characters and build new sets etc but it's not like starting from scratch with s1 (and some of that process might already have begun even before a s2 has been ordered).

And 2017 is just when the rights were acquired. After that it was a slow process of finding the rights studio and the right people to work on it. It wasn't until 2020 that they actually were gonna start filming, but then the pandemic delayed the production until 2022.

Writing on s2 had also likely already started earlier this year (probably not right now though due to WGA strike), that's how it usually works even if it hasn't gotten the green light so they're ready to start production when it does.

Anime live actions have a poor track record, IMO. Even one that seemed like it was a sure home run (Death Note) turned out being completely shitty. I get a luke-warm sentiment from the reddit community regarding the live action. I also think some things just aren't fit for live action. Special effects just get really out of wack. Alice in Borderland was OK, but still pretty meh.

Syrup village kinda tied in with Romance Dawn. Don Krieg isn't a recurring character as much as Arlong. And since the way the season structured as Arlong being the season main villain. I could see why they giving more time to Arlong. Baratie sort of tying with Arlong Park. Since half of the crew went to Arlong Park to pursue Nami while Baratie was playing out.

I don't like the fact that we went to Reverse Mountain before meeting Smoker. But having Smoker and Dragon showed up in season 2 isn't bad. Dragon would have an extra scene during Vivi's Reverie collection. And Smoker played a role in Alabasta. This would made him a recurring character in season 2.

So I guess Louge Town is basically facing off against Alvida/Buggy.

I got a Thriller Back vibe when the red firework within the floating barrel explodes right above their ship. It’s nice to see that incorporated earlier in the series to build a consistent world where ships are being hunted.
