But Super Mario is an animated film.

Not a TV series
And? We are talking about test audience reactions to adaptations of big IPs. In this context it doesn't matter if it is animation or series. The point is rumors are rumors, and bad test reaction doesn't necessarily mean a flop (if it's true even).

Happy Luffy Day, with this message from Oda-sensei about the Live Action!
I love how Oda seems very honest, to the point of saying he almost gave up and it was very infuriating. (TV production always is). Gives a lot more credit to it going great now. It seems that he indeed is also very active in the process (which is what the negative nancys keep denying and comparing it to Watanabe, while everything points otherwise).

The fact that it gets green lit with an Oda nod is assuring to the fans, but i hope they can work it out and get it out... Some of the things will have to change, like Sanji's pervyness for instance, they may have to tone it down ..As long as Luffy's the same, they're on the right track

One risk is shortened episodes. One Piece takes time to get the user hood onto, compared to Naruto or other major series but progressively gets better everytime. That's something risky for a production to follow, but if they get it right, its going to be epic...

Besides that, the main concern is Oda's lifespan comment... He's just 48. The series wont take 20 years to finish.

We do not know how log the episodes are yet though. With Netflix, it could be anything from 45 minutes to 120 mins. If the episodes are closer to one hour mark, I don't think its out of question they could reasonably adapt East Blue. Especially if they end it at Arlong Park.

Seriously speaking, as a TV production of this scale takes decades (even if we have seen nothing, Oda has been working with Netflix on this for 7 years already) Oda is not exactly wrong. This is his best shot at being able to actively take part, any later and he might be too old to fully commit as much needed. It gets relatively faster though after first season is out. The biggest hurdle is always getting anything big produced and shot in the first place. After all the ground work is layed, it's not gonna take as long for future seasons.

I thought it was an hour long, it was stated someone earlier... They will have to cut-down on some aspects.. for instance, Gaimon will not be featured, which is OK. But cutting down on flashbacks for instance may not work.

But yea,i agree with you,the first season will iron out for the rest so hopefully it goes well..

Nah, that not has been confirmed anywhere. There was some crewmember CVs that indicated that the episodes would be around 1 hour running length, but it's not facts yet.

Gaimon is an easy cut. I don't think they are gonna cut the flashbacks too much (other than maybe Buggy/Shanks), they are the emotional and storytelling backbone of the series. Fights are also probably gonna be a lot more fast based in the live-action, with less dialogue stalling it.

He literally just wrote so. So you are saying Oda is lying?
It would not be the first time

If you think that then, with all the commitments that bha, may well have the time to follow the production of a series on the other side of the sea

I don't remember him ever lying. But maybe you should stop following him and his work if you are so disappointed in him?

I literally can't understand this sentence. But internet exists, distance is not a problem these days. And I'm not saying Oda has become a fulltime director or anything, but lots of consulting and discussion and suggestion has definitely been made.

Such respectful discusser you are. But yes, the deal with Netflix was done in 2016. It's not like he has done full-time work on this ever since, but all sorts of back and worth definitely has been going on.

Oh no?

And all the times he claimed to be close to the end?

But maybe you should stop following him and his work if you are so disappointed in him?
What ?
And when was I going to say it or make it clear?

I guess you don't quite understand the pace of work that Oda does.....

I repeat, if you want to believe it, you are free to do so.

Personally, I'm waiting for the first season to air,

But yea,i agree with you,the first season will iron out for the rest so hopefully it goes well..
Hopefully ?
The sooner they do it, the sooner it flops and the sooner people stop talking about it.

Not really a lie. Poor estimation and/or change of plans. Also very subjective.

What ?
And when was I going to say it or make it clear?
You are so negative and confident he is lying, so it really doesn't seems like you care about his word and work at all.

I guess you don't quite understand the pace of work that Oda does.....
About 12-14 hours work days, like most weekly mangaka. This working time most likely includes meeting with managers and discussing the show every now and then.

Don't go presuming what people know and don't know. I have actually worked both, television and comic publishing. Different country and different scale, but still.

I repeat, if you want to believe it, you are free to do so.

Personally, I'm waiting for the first season to air
If I'm allowed to look forward to this show as I want, why do you keep replying me with super negative stuff, even when I'm not talking or replying directly to you? You are the one who is negatively attacking everything I have to say.

So am I. And I haven't decided it will suck and flop yet. Unlike you, I'm leaving that judgement until I've seen the show. And what concrete we have seen and know this far, doesn't really seems bad or have any signs of catastrophes.

Hopefully ?
The sooner they do it, the sooner it flops and the sooner people stop talking about it.
See? You've already decided it sucks without seeing. You are also hoping people will stop talking about it. Completely contradicting your previous "You are free to belief so and I will watch it first".

We get it, you've judged the show before it airs, you've decided Oda lies, and you've decided it's gonna flop. You've never really told what concretly makes you think this, but whatever. Now why won't you let us others talk about it and Odas statements as freely as you claim you will, instead of trying to undermine every trace of proof and every personal opinion everyone else has?

If he doesn't tell the truth, it's a lie.

Very simple.

It's a way of not trusting too much the mangaka's words.

You are so negative and confident he is lying, so it really doesn't seems like you care about his word and work at all.
I mean, so just because I say Oda lies, does that mean I don't appreciate his work?

Exactly what kind of reasoning would that be ^

No, seriously.

So in your opinion, with all the time he dedicates to the manga, does he also have time to devote himself to a show produced on the other side of the world?

Okay

If I'm allowed to look forward to this show as I want, why do you keep replying me with super negative stuff, even when I'm not talking or replying directly to you? You are the one who is negatively attacking everything I have to say.
I'm just saying that I find it quite tricky to trust Oda's words, because some authors are ready to take it all back in the event of a flop...

So am I. And I haven't decided it will suck and flop yet. Unlike you, I'm leaving that judgement until I've seen the show.
In fact, I'm also waiting for the show

But only the trailer, because I won't see it

I'm just waiting to see how much it flops

See? You've already decided it sucks without seeing. You are also hoping people will stop talking about it. Completely contradicting your previous "You are free to belief so and I will watch it first".
It would be contradictory why?

I do not understand....

And in any case. I speak from experience of failed live action products

We get it, you've judged the show before it airs,
Again, look at the background

you've decided Oda lies,
Never said he lies for sure.

I said it's very likely.

nd you've decided it's gonna flop.
See above

. You've never really told what concretly makes you think this, but whatever.
See above

However, I did not understand one thing.....

What does it mean that they won't launch the series until Oda is satisfied?

The series must debute in 2023 as, with the investment Netflix has made, even small delays can equate to piling up debt.

If he doesn't tell the truth, it's a lie.
False. Lie needs intention to tell false information on purpose. Oda did believe what he said at the moment he said. You really don't seem to follow many artists that deal in creating big sprawling epics. It's quite common for them to totally misjudge how much time reaching something takes.

I mean, so just because I say Oda lies, does that mean I don't appreciate his work?
Yes. He went his way to do a statement on the work he did fo the live-action. And you say it's a lie.

Think of it this way: You make a statement on the effort you've made in an unfinished work project. Someone comes, and says "Naah you didn't, you lazied around and bail as soon as the project is public". Does that speak of respect and appreciation for your work?

So in your opinion, with all the time he dedicates to the manga, does he also have time to devote himself to a show produced on the other side of the world?
Yes. Meetings, briefs, emails, chats are all part of a creatives job and included in the work time. Thanks to internet anyone can work with anyone in the world. So no, taking some hours weekly to check scripts, answer emails and attend zoom chats isn't out of the question. Sure, it's a lot of work. But Oda does extra projects all the time. He has had time to write/consult/co-produce several animated OP films while doing the manga - how come he wouldn't be able to do so in a live-action series too? They don't have to be physically be in the same space to do the work with Oda.

I'm just saying that I find it quite tricky to trust Oda's words, because some authors are ready to take it all back in the event of a flop...
So you are future sighting Oda to take it back and dismissing the project? Wow. And then you still claim you appreciate his work.

In fact, I'm also waiting for the show

But only the trailer, because I won't see it

I'm just waiting to see how much it flops
So you've decided it flops.

It would be contradictory why?

I do not understand....
Read above.

And in any case. I speak from experience of failed live action products
Sure, live-actions adaptations don't have a good track record. Still you can't judge it before seeing it. Some live-actions have been pretty good too.

Never said he lies for sure.

I said it's very likely.
Read few quotes above. You sound very sure. Nice back pedaling.

What does it mean that they won't launch the series until Oda is satisfied? The series must debute in 2023 as, with the investment Netflix has made, even small delays can equate to piling up debt.
So now you believe what he is saying in the statement? Some consistency please. Netflix won't bankrupt for delaying it some time, it's already mostly paid for. Is not like they are

Also this is my last reply to you, I just have one more thing to add to your logic and behaviour;

And when was I going to say I believed it?

You have serious problems understanding the text.

False. Lie needs intention to tell false information on purpose. Oda did believe what he said at the moment he said. You really don't seem to follow many artists that deal in creating big sprawling epics. It's quite common for them to totally misjudge how much time reaching something takes.
You may not mean it, but if you don't tell the truth, you're lying.

Having said this to Oda, do you think it's worth saying that he doesn't work on live action or giving his approval?

Of course he sponsor the series as he can, it's more money for him

Yes. He went his way to do a statement on the work he did fo the live-action. And you say it's a lie.
So how much that makes me a hater of Oda and all of One Piece in general.

Okay.

Yes. Meetings, briefs, emails, chats are all part of a creatives job and included in the work time.
But not with what Oda has to do every week.

k. But Oda does extra projects all the time. He has had time to write/consult/co-produce several animated OP films while doing the manga - how come he wouldn't be able to do so in a live-action series too? They don't have to be physically be in the same space to do the work with Oda.
Oda of extra manga to the fullest makes some cover or drawing.

Being the supervisor of the various films, novels, etc. is worth as much as being the supervisor of the live action.

That is, he can very well put the name on it and that's it

So you've decided it flops.
I haven't decided.

I expect it to flop

Read few quotes above. You sound very sure. Nice back pedaling.
But I have never given certainties, only purely personal opinions.

You may not mean it, but if you don't tell the truth, you're lying.
With this logic, if OPLA doesn't flop, it means you are now lying. But if it does flop, you are now talking the truth. That's not how it works.

As said, I'm not gonna bother with you anymore. You clearly stated things as if facts, and now you are softening your words after being argued how little you say makes sense and shows disrespect to Oda. I'm not the one with problems with reading, you are the one with problems writing.

I didn't quite understand. what would be the truth?

And what does Oda's involvement have to do with whether he flops or not?

Looking forward to this August 31st. I actually thought “Cowboy Bebop” was good and majority of people whined about it because it wasn’t exactly like the anime (or manga for that matter). Hopefully, One Piece gets a chance to grow on people, but will see.

Also, the live action “Yu Yu Hakusho” is coming out in December this year as well. 🤓👍🏾

I don't think I am going to watch it but it must be the first time a live action trailer didn't make me facepalm.

Buggy's design though :lmao.

Hnmm, dunno why but i don't like luffy here. The rest looks.... Salvageable? Very skeptical of the op live action overall.
