I'm always a bit torn when we get info like this. It's sort of spoilery, except it doesn't actually say anything about the plot or even that the Big Mom/Luffy conflict will be resolved before we see Wano.. But still, we're at such a point that any info about how quickly the plot might progress can be too big of a reveal to some.

On the other hand, I would have loved to read info like that during, say, Dressrosa which just seemed to drag on forever and there seemed to be no end in sight..

Yeah, it feels a bit spoiler-ish, then again with how everything has been unfolding I can't say it's really that surprising... seems like there won't be any fighting or anything like that, and even though there's "half" of the arc to go, I just don't see Oda coming up with a reasonable scenario/explanation for Big Mom to be beaten.

Maybe it means that the action will simply shift to Zoro and the others, but somehow I don't think that's the case, we've always stuck with Luffy no matter what happens I believe, so I think it would be strange to go a whole arc without him.

As for Dressrosa, I guess I'm part of the minority that didn't feel that way. A while ago I did some maths and I think overall during the Dressrosa arc there was like 3 months worth of breaks or something, maybe 6, can't rebember exactly right now but it was a lot, and of course that's always a factor, but personally I liked it, there were a lot of things to look forward to, like the Colosseum fights and stuff.

Pretty good news imo. Means we'll have a lot of action, and info-packed chapters. I wonder how Luffy and others escape though within this small time frame, as it's a certainty now that LinLin won't get beaten... unless Germa for some reason help, or the bomb takes her out... even then it seems unlikely that BM gets beat. I have faith Oda will deliver here.

Very hyped for Wano so that was the best part for sure.

Though i am very excited for Wano like many of us are, i take this with a grain of salt tbh. This is an editor not Oda himself first of all, so that makes it more shaky imo. Plus even if it were Oda, i HIGHLY doubt he knew Dressrosa would last as long as it did when he started it. Of course i am not suggesting this arc will be anywhere near as long as that one, but i could see it taking till early 2018 for Wano since Oda may not know for sure how long it will take him. The point is i don't take this as fact, unless this editor would have me believe Oda knows what is exactly going to be in the next 25-30 chapters for sure. I doubt that and as such i will wait and see where this goes because truly it's fine either way for me, i am enjoying this arc a great deal and i also cannot wait for Wano. Thanks for the info @Erinyes as usual! :super

It's Oda's and One Piece' personal editor who said this. In other words, besides Oda the single person with the most insight into and influence on the story. So yeah, maybe not 100% certain information, but it's still the second most reliable source after Oda himself.

And I'm thinking if he didn't know the arc was close to going towards an end, they wouldn't release this sort of info (it's not something they do every arc, after all).

I think the editors have 'an idea', but Oda will have a 'better idea'... like I don't expect them to know the fraction of completion down to .01. So I assume when it's 'half' done, it's roughly, half, give or take.

Dressrosa probably took a while since Oda had to give enough spotlight to future fleet members. I thought it dragged on a fair bit though.

I'd actually like this arc to end quicker because it would be more of a rescue mission. He can't take on a Yonkou without his whole crew in my eyes, just wouldn't fit. Still another 20-30 chapters gives a lot of room for drama imo, if LinLin isn't taken down.

Exactly my point. I am just saying we don't know, sure the editor would have a decent idea but from everything I have heard they don't plan out 25-30 chapters ahead in perfect detail. As such I take stuff like this and when editors com out and say " OP is this percentage done" with a grain of salt, that's all I meant. Plus while I am hyped for Wano it's best to enjoy each arc as they come, as for all we know Wano may not be as good as each of our expectations hold it to be.

Wano is already my favourite arc ;)

Very good point about how to treat arcs and expectations. Though, sometimes I like to live a little and really strive for greatness before the fact. This is a double edge sword though. Still, Wano has so much going for it and Oda can definitely deliver as we know.

Considering that the whole arc takes place - mostly - in a single day, I feel like he pretty much had most of it (if not all of it) outlined in advance.

Well, a while ago someone posted those pictures of Oda's booklets:

And I think it wouldn't be too far-fetched if he had (at the time) already everything outlined, something like this for every single chapter in the arc:

- Chapter 827 (Totland): this happens
- Chapter 828: this happens;
(etc.)
- Chapter 8XX: end of the arc.

Well you misunderstand me I am quite aware he has his arcs planned. What I doubt is he plans by chapter exactly, 25-30 chapters ahead of his current place. I don't doubt Oda is a great planner either, I am saying I HIGHLY doubt he thought to himself " oh yeah I am gonna make the Dressrosa arc 100 chapters". It's no secret Oda is an extremely creative person even by mangaka standards, and I remember him saying in a interview that he has to cut down on his idea's since they inflate his arcs (paraphrasing, but that's what he meant). Also I may be wrong but I think Dressrosa also took place in one day.

I am also hyped but I feel going into the arc with a somewhat open mind (even though that's hard to do lol) is important, as to not get too disappointed if it does not go quite as well as we think (though I highly doubt that with Oda). Believe me you are talking to a die hard OP fan I am HYPED. I just also am not as excited for these types of announcements because they are not completely official, and we are in the middle of a good arc right now and I want that to be done right before getting all up in arms about a new one. Just my thoughts though and I agree with you.:verily

Part of it could be a response to reader criticism over arc length. Hasn't Oda sort of always done these rough guesses of how big arcs/over-arcs will be? It's also worth to note that usually lowballs it pretty hard.

On BM's abilities, I hope it's not just a matter of lifespan taken = lifespan given and that's that- it'd be kind of bland given how outlandish her abilities are. I think like Moria's zombies function similarly to BM's homies. A more potent soul which is harder to intimidate (seemingly a requirement) may yield a stronger homie- Zeus and Prometheus might be made from the stolen lifespan of particularly strong individuals. It just strikes me as strange that we have a million 'civilian' homies and then suddenly we have these higher tier homies like Baum, Randolph, and P&Z.

The abilities of this fruit and the way in which Big Mom uses it are so complex that we've not had a proper explanation into those, but what you say about more potent souls being used for the powerful homies such as Randolph, Zeus and Prometheus makes the most sense in terms of difference between the homies.
Even just looking at the different chess army pieces; there is 4 different classes there ranging in strength and speciality so it's totally conceivable that they're not all made from civilian's souls.

Aside from her using her powers on the homies, I wondered about putting her soul onto vivre card, as because of her ability it works differently to all those we've seen so far in the series; in that it radiates brightly but only homies can see that and makes it impossible for them to fight the holder. What I wondered was how long Lola had this card for before giving it to Nami and how much time it took of BM to put her soul into something as small as that. Which brings my next thought, are there any homies on the island with Big Mom's own soul? I know we've seen her incarnations that collect souls across the kingdom for her but I'd be curious to see what a homie with her soul is like. My bet would've been Zeus and Prometheus as they're said to be most powerful weapons or something along those lines.

See I had a different takeaway from the vivrecard thing. I took it as confirmation that vivrecards are soul-based in general. BM's vivrecard affecting her homies is just a side-effect of that fact. I've always had my suspicions about them given the utterly magical nature of their use- there's no way a piece of paper can remotely burn away as a person's lifespan draws shorter, unless we apply what we now know about the hard connection between lifespan and the soul.

Which begs the question- who makes vivrecards and how? It can't just be Vegapunk doing all the techno-magic. There has to be an industrialized method for making them if so many different characters have them.

inb4 it's actually Big Mom that makes them... Probably not, but I could see it as a big money-maker for a Yonko.

Vivrecards are made from fingernails; Lola explained this to Nami when she gave her Big Mom's vivrecard. The New World is an interesting.
The question here is, how does Big Mom attach a piece of her soul onto it but doesnt animate it? is it a conscious choice she has to make or does this mean that her power restricts her from splitting her own soul onto other inanimate objects and animals?

I did forget about that, thanks for the link. The raw ingredients are a simple part of the person, but what isn't known is literally everything in between acquisition of something as simple as a fingernail and the production of something that can track down somebody no matter what. So there's a business involved with vivrecard production- it makes me wonder if the yonkou or other high-power individuals have a grudge against this business for obvious reasons. Especially BM whose homie-based tyranny can be immediately undermined by the use of one.

I wonder if there is a place where you can buy other people's vivre cards? Just a thought I'm having regarding Jack's ability to find Zou. Could it be that there's a place out there where Zou's vivre card was made and somehow Kaidou/Jack got their hands on it or am I simply reading too much into this? :XD

I never really gave much thought to how Jack found Zou like that (and twice, nonetheless). Couldn't it be because he ate the Zou Zou fruit (model mammoth) and somehow through his elephant... sense... Yeah, maybe not.

I'd forgotten the part where Lola's crew says they only have Vivre Cards in the New World.

At first I thought it had to do with some sort of magnetism which is only strong enough in the New World, but then I remembered that the cards were indeed used by SH Crew in the "Paradise" part of Grand Line. So now I'm thinking there must be some other reason, like the materials for making them only exists in that part of the world.

And thus, with a little Google, I found this. And it makes a lot of sense.

It's just funny to me that Oda chose to have something so important (in the NW at least) be made from fingernails, but I guess it's something that the maker can quite easily discard.

@Organizized that's a pretty good speculation you linked to; I particularly liked the fact that the user said the paper itself might be made from the Treasure Tree Adam (same used to make the Oro Jackson and Thousand Sunny ships), it'd give it that much more importance. I just really want to see one of these shops already.

Bruh I'm dead.
New One Piece POP figures recently announced (BB series).

I'm just glad both manga and anime never go this far with fanservice :errr... I think the (recent) movies are the only exception where they allow a scene or two that could be considered more gratuitous, but I don't really have a problem with it since they're movies and only seldom provide this sort of thing for some fans to "make up for it" in some way, like a bonus of some sort.

As for this kind of figurines, well... As long as they sell and give more money to Oda and such I'm fine with it :celebrate
