Re: One Piece Chapter 769 Spoiler Discussion

I have to agree plus this arc been going on for to fucking long. I wouldnt be surprise if it goes until May of next year.

The worst chapter of One Piece is better than Assassination Classroom. I tried to read that manga twice and dropped it. Either way if the spoilers are true probably a boring chapter.
Did I say something else? I don't read Assassination Classroom cause the summary and the first chapter bored me. But if something like this takes number one then the big players such as Oda and the author of AoT must question themselves why the popularity is dropping. Hinestly the only good thing in this arc seemed to be the story of Law and Rocinate.

For example if Volkswagen who is for years breaking records with the Golf starts to see that for example a rival such as the Hyundai i30 took the first place from them for a month then you would see that the managers would do everything day and night to find out why the sellings and ratings are dropping. But Oda and other mangakas such as Kishimoto, Kubo and co seem not to care. Oda since his big break didn't make one decent arc that wasn't boring. I believe most agreed here that the FI arc totally sucked and the same goes for the PH arc.

No, look at what you posted. It's Oda that comes up with the suggestion for new characters.

What I meant was that Oda would have written the story so The Straw Hats would end up on Dressrosa, even if Law wasn't on Punk Hazard. There would have been some other plot device. It's not like they were not gonna get to Dressrosa. Punk Hazard clearly sets up Doflamingo as the villian, with or without Law.

I'm looking at it from a writing point of view. You do not change to the story to serve a character. Character serve the story, not the other way around.

You don't know that. Law could have been planned to be introduced in Punk Hazard arc or maybe already at the Impel Down arc, but Oda thought that introducing him as part of the new character was better. No one except Oda knows.
I agree that Law resucering Luffy most likely wouldn't have happened had Law not been introduced. It would have been a bit odd if it had. But that does not have anything to do with the story so far in New World
.
Let's agree that we interpret things differently.

Would Luffy then be fighting side by side with Law if Luffy wouldn't owe Law his life?
If Luffy would be really putting his heart into this then DD would be having his hands full right now. But Luffy is not there and pissed off at all he is just there chilling and throwing a few fists. A serious Luffy would be like the one we saw during the War of the best, EL arc and so on. where nothing could stop him from kicking his enemy's ass not even taking time or waiting for anyone. But now Luffy most of the time chills, Zoro does the same and so on.

Re: One Piece Chapter 769 Spoiler Discussion

It seems like the old generation of pirates til Ace had some balls whereas the new generation is all talk. I mean Croc,Moria,Ace and so on all challenged a Yonkou on their own. Yeah they failed but whatever. BB made himself a Yonkou with his own crew and not by joining forces with other pirates too.
Balls mean nothing when you get your ass kicked. You think these guys would have avoided potential alliance if they knew they'd have their ass handed to them?
Its not like luffy searched out law, luffy isn't interested in conquering, in fact till law brought up the issue of taking down the yonkou and when luffy saw how big mam treated fishman island, he had next to no interest in them. Asides surpassing shanks which would have been the case when he becomes PK, there was no interest in yonkou on his part.

Also about BB, I have to disagree. BB's original crew couldn't even handle ace. BB is basically running a mercenary team. He offered prisoners a chance to escape by killing each other. We've seen repeatedly how easily they would abadon him if a really tough situation arises and how they don't even trust him.
BB is infact a little sissy. He hid out till whitebeard was worn out, infact he would have never revealed himself had marineford not been destroyed by WB. Then when he finally engages WB and has his ass handed to him, he starts crying out and begging for his life. If anyone doesn't have balls, its blackbeard.

Re: One Piece Chapter 769 Discussion / 770 Prediction

Wow, Loved this chapter! Actually, I just love this manga in general. It can do no wrong in my eyes. Having to read complaints about the storyline has become such an eyesore on this forum, especially complaints about some of the best features of the manga!

The greatest feature of the One Piece universe is Oda's awesome attention to detail and character development. I cannot think of another manga where I know background, history, and motivations for so many players in such a huge cast of characters. The way Oda weaves in little bits of information about his characters and various plotlines on such a regular basis is what keeps bringing me back for more every week!

It is what separates One Piece from the pack, making it by far the best selling manga in history as well as ranking in the top 4 of best selling comics in general worldwide.

Each week on these forums there will inevitably be calls for more action, more focus on the main crew, more focus on the fighting, more focus on a particular plotline, more focus on your favorite character, less focus on a character you dislike, he shouldn’t do this or that, this is awful, etc. My favorite complaint is the general, all-purpose one about Oda ‘wasting panels’ in some way or another.

I think I have finally come to realize the purpose of these forums. Generally, it is for people to come in and complain. Once in a while, it is a meeting place to celebrate a huge plot development. I honestly think the title of this forum would be more appropriately titled ‘Mostly Complaints’ vs. ‘Discussion/Predictions.’

I am convinced now that that is why there are so few posts in the One Piece forum, because for the most part, there is nothing to complain about!

So, I’ll leave you guys to it. Have fun criticizing the best selling manga ever.

Finding OP equals conquiering the GL. Even if Luffy has no interest in it at all he has to. Roger also had no interest in conquering the GL but finding Raftel resulted in it.
If you alone can't handle it then it means that you have to get stronger.
What I also wonder about is where is WB's original crew? Seeing that Marco,Jozu, Vista and co are all young I doubt that they are part of WB's original crew. I mean If Roger fought WB then who of WB's crew faced Raleigh? Most of WB's crew are the same age as Shanks and at that time Shanks was only a little boy and not one of Roger' main fighters of the crew. Did they all die and left the sick WB behind or did WB dissolve his old crew and started a new crew to raise a few new promising pirate who could fullfill what Roger failed to do?

Not only BB didn't dare to face WB fair and square. The same goes for all the admirals such as Akainu,Kizaru and Aokoji. All only dared to go near WB and face him after Akainu fooled Squadro.
From what I've seen so far the SN's didn't advance powerwise as much as Luffy did. I mean I thought that Law would be a rival of Luffy power-wise but seeing how bad he is doing against DD, whose ability are pretty clear to him makes me believe that Luffy at the time is far above the other SN's.

I wouldn't say the same for the admirals. If you recall, most of them already started moving for him, I remember Marco engaging one of them (kizaru maybe?) and mentioning how he can't have a shot at the kings head (WB) on his first try. Aokiji individually confronted WB, until jozu intervened and told WB he would handle it. Kizaru went againt WB multiple times and akainu was the one that was seriously gunning for his head. It was while facing him that WB's health deteriorated and he started coughing up blood.
As for going to face WB after akainu fooled squard that was actually a worse situation as he was visibly enraged. Thing is the admirals didn't back down from him, and challenged him fair and square whenever they could.
Blackbeard would have probably waited till WB died before revealing himself. When WB easily overcomes him, he starts pleading for his life, then ultimately orders his entire crew to gang up on WB after which he still lived long enough to completely tank their bullets and strikes and give his speech.

And then there was the other time BB fled from akainu despite having an entire crew of mercenary fighters so OP the WG tried to erase them from history. Hence why I said if anyone is a sissy, its BB.

As for the SN, well zoro is one too and we can see how much he's improved. On a serious note though, we only got glimpses of them at archipelago pre TS. And we have hardly seen any others in action since them. I for one never felt luffy was beneath them. Law isn't weak IMO though. He one shotted vergo and managed to simultaneously hold his own for some time against DD and fuujitora along with saving half of the SH's on different occasions. He took care of trebol and managed to dish out injuried to DD. Its the same with luffy, most times when he faces a major opponent, he gets his ass handed to him and sometimes its really pitiful.

I agree with abit of your post but on some aspects I can't agree. WB with a hole in the middle of his chest which more than likely weakened him even more besides his illness was not engaged head on by anyone. Kizaru,Akainu and Aokoji all only attacked WB with wide range attacks and only dared to near him when WB had a hole in his chest. No one weather they were Shishibukai,Marines or anything else dared to go near WB before WB received a hole in his chest. Well besides the exception which is Croc.
All were chicken to face WB without a hole in his chest head on. The same goes for the pirates who didn't dare to challenege Garp and Sengoku head on besides the exception being BB after he got the Gura Gura no mi.

The difference between Luffy and Law is that Law is planning this since Rocinate died. Luffy on the other hand never fights with any preperaing. He goes head on without thinking or planning what his enemy is capable of or not.

The hole in his chest was inflicted by akainu while they were fighting. He engaged WB, they sparred for a while then WB's health got the better of him and he coughed blood leaving an opening which akainu took advantage of to punch a hole in him. The admirals had to use long range attacks at first because their primary duty was ensuring ace wasn't rescued. And countless marines engaged WB only that he fodderized them. There was that giant that actually went on the Moby Dick to fight WB when the battle started, except WB one hit KO'ed him as expected. When WB was on the move, John giant also engaged him. Even mere marine soldiers attacked him at every go. He just brushed them off. Each time an admiral tried to fight him, they were interrupted by one of WB's top commanders. Mihawk also tried to hit WB with a long range strike which jozu blocked and then there's even squard who wasn't scared to stab WB even though he knew it wouldn't be enough to kill him.
The pirates never made it up to garp and sengoku. Besides Marco attempted to take ace while garp and sengoku were there but garp punched him back.

For WB, the marines attacked him at every opportunity but were generally too weak and the admirals were mostly interrupted before anything could happen. For garp and sengoku, no one made it far enough to engage them. Only luffy got on the platform. I could give links if you like.

I only started reading one piece a few months ago so most of these things are still fresh in my mind.

Because storywriting is not just about being a corporate cunt. If a writer has a story to tell, then if the readers don't like it, he should acknowledge it, but stick to the same story (this isn't followed completely in manga, but at least it isn't as big as people often make it out to be). Because it's the writer's story, not the reader's.

First, the writer thinks of a story and writes the plot. A particular storyline may not necessarily ends in just one chapter and thus it would have to be presented chapter after chapter. He/she may be able to amend certain part(s) of the plot, perhaps according to the plot's popularity so as to try to "move" the sale, but if a large part of the storyline is being changed, then the whole story may become distorted and even be ambiguous or "out of line" (so to speak).

Not everyone likes me; not every reader likes Oda and obviously, not everyone likes the story (or a certain arc) of One Piece.

Someone said that he disliked the artwork of One Piece but as he continued to watch me enjoying the manga and anime so much, he too, started to enjoy it and became a big fan of it.

Like it or not is a personal preference and choice, after all. :^_^

This week I want One Piece so much that I'm about to set sail myself.
And about the story, I find it greatly written. Or at least, it's far beyond the "Eragon" of mangas... (Naruto coff coff)

I'm usually singing Oda's praises and have went as far as to call him mangaka god before, but this arc has had some really blaring weaknesses in it's story. It will still be a pretty good read as a whole once the its done though. It's just that what Oda was trying to achieve in this arc was pretty ambitious and it fell a bit short of expectations.

I usually am a fanboy for One Piece storytelling, but there are some serious issues with this arc. Too many characters, too many mini stories, and as a result everything is undeveloped. Plus I don't get why every single of the Colosseum participants needed a hype only to be one-shoted by Luffy.

To me, this arc is like what happened with Supernovas: Oda is trying to put the basis for the second part of the story, introducing as many characters possible. Obviously this won't mean that there will be no new characters after Dressrosa, but if really One Piece will face a World War before it's all over*, at a certain point Oda will need to show us various places of OP world without having to write down all the context every single time.

Let me explain: every time a major event rocks the world, we get to see how people react to it. But maybe now Oda needs us to perceive this world as bigger. If anything goes as I think it will go, from now on we will see in detail only the second half of the Grand Line, and not even all the islands, but only the ones visited by the SH. IMHO This is a waste, and maybe Oda found a way to show us more of OP world, in the future.

I personally think it has more to do with him trying to build alliances for the SHs, simple as that. We pretty much know that it is a requirement of some sort in the NW, where you have Yonko crews of more than a 100 members(Kaidou has like 500), and with the alliances, I can't see how the SHs are going to fight them with just 9 members. This is the point of this whole arc imo. I may be wrong though and just like you said he wants to show more of the world, but there's the cover stories for that, he could make some of the characters go to different islands and intract with the people, like what he did in Caribou's cover story(since Jinbei's just started). All in all I think Dressrosa will be as long as Alabasta or even more, which if I'm not mistaken lasted for 2 years. It's been a year or so and the main fight hasn't even started yet.

You're right, there are also alliances to build. So now I'm officially considering Dressrosa a "I'm collecting some plot material" arc.

The only thing that bothers me it's the fact that Luffy is facing Doflamingo this early in the story, to me he was one of the Big Bad Guys. (Blackbeard, Akainu, Doflamingo, Kizaru)

Kaido has a special unit of 500 Smile user, his crew must be much bigger than that

It seems that a few powerfull members count more than hundreds of subordinates like each of the Whitebeard commanders has. While I assume Shanks must have a much larger crew to maintain control over his territory in the New World, he brought only a dozen of his crewmates to Marineford and it was enough to intimidate the Marines.

Of course that's not the case of the Strawhat Pirates right now – but even with their current alliance with Law and the Colosseum participants they are having a hard time against the Donquixote Pirates, let alone handling the insanely powerfull crew of a Yonkou. And Kaido's army of 500 Zoan Devil Fruit doesn't seems to be normal even for the Yonkou standards.
