Can you show that explanation? I must have missed it.
Is this real?
By highlighting these scenes Oda explains to us readers how luffy's metabolism works. That's what distinguishes those scenes from gag scenes.
He has shown in numeral occasions that Luffys metabolism works faster than average:
- After he fought Blueno and was worn out after having used Gear 2 he was able to regain his stamina by eating two pieces of meat.
- In Impel Down after luffy suffered from Magellan's poison and received Ivankov's hormones to enhance his healing abilities, his body managed to recover from the poisoning in 20 hours, which - stated by Ivankov - for a normal human should take 2 days. Ivankov noted this to be more than a miracle
- Again Impel down, after recovering from the poison and being extremely skinny, he managed to eat several days' worth of food in the nick of time and instantly recover to his normal state with all of his muscle mass restored.
- Now in whole cake Island we have several instances in which this fast working metabolism is highlighted by Oda again.
- After the cracker fight, after having used g4 two times successively, we readers were specifically shown how fast his bkdy burns calories.
- In the katakuri-fight he didn't use G4 before eating the mochi, so he has to run to get his metabolism working. Again highlighted. But you said these two scenes work pretty contradicting. Elaborate how.
- Even the tooth-regrowing scene, which was mostly for gag-purposes, served as a hint that luffy's healing abilities just work faster. Again it's even highlighted by luffy saying that his body functions differently.
-Also after waiting half-dead on the field for Sanji, after eating Sanji's bento, Luffy reverted from skin and bones to his regular size again.
So in this arc, Oda invested a lot of panels showing that Luffy's metabolism works way faster than that of a average human. But it's not that he came up with this for just this arc, as shown by the scenes from Justice Gate and Impel down.
Then we obviously have the chopper scene, where a fast working metabolism is not mentioned or hintet at at all. Obviously gag. The difference between this scene and all the above-mentioned scenes should be comprehensable.
Now you can tell me where I present you with contradicting theories, instead of just telling me, that I do so.
