In fight with Katakuri he was less fat and had to run to burn it, quite contradicting actions.
Again, straws. In the fight against Katakuri, before he ate the mochi he didn't turn into G4. So of course he had to stimulate his metabolism by running. In the above-inserted scene , right before it, he turned into G4 mode twice... Self-explanatory
So this scene actually further confirms that Luffy's metabolism works faster than that of your average human. Thanks for providing

Seems like luffy unlocked the ability of accelerated digestion and healing right after the cracker battle, when Nami observed he was burning the food really fast, she became physically shocked and asked if luffy really was human, lol.
I'm certain he unlocked it there because if he had it before now, Nami wouldn't have been surprised because she definitely would've seen it before.
While fighting katakuri, he became aware he could do it, that's why he ran back and forth in quick succession to burn it really quickly before attacking katakuri.
Good to know our boy luffy is capable of feats even most top tier would only dream of, it shows his growth.
Atleast, we now know Kaido won't be knocking luffy out with one hit or at all, best power up ever, atleast for now anyway.

She doesn't need to seduce them, especially men like pound, she can always threaten them, that would be more effective.
When bigmom decides it's you she wants, saying No would have dire consequences especially for one's family and friends.

:derp lol. Dude, that's "RAPE". Big Mom is the biggest rapist in One Piece, lol.

@MaoTheDong Straw yes, like your contradicting theory as well. We are just assuming here, no facts and explanations in manga. He didnt turn into g4, nor did he run or anything else in the scene with Chopper and yet he burned it from one panel to the next, same like Chopper did. It is a gag.

And that is exactly why this was a gag. And I agreed.
But differs from the situations we just mentioned. The process of Luffy's digestive system was strongly highlighted in those scenes. If it is a gag (like in the chopper scene), why wasting panels on explaining/highlighting what just happened? Nothing to do with justifying "hardcore fans"

He didn't unlock anything, Gear 4th just burns a lot of calories.

It has nothing to do with his body finding a way to cope, if you exert yourself a lot, your body will naturally burn through energy. Gear 4th is not just using the mechanics of Gear 2nd, it's also straining his muscles. Just being in Gear 4th alone and doing nothing in itself is a difficult task.

This was Nami's first time seeing Gear 4th too.

Bar Gear 4th, Luffy's metabolism is 3x that of the average person. Nami said this right after they got saved by Jimbei.

Can you show that explanation? I must have missed it.
Dude Brook drinking milk and healing instantly is an exaggerated healing ability... yeah it started as a gag. However, Oda makes it a point that milk is good for bones and every time this happens he heals up. Luffy metabolising food instantly is an extreme exaggeration of his metabolic rate... and greater metabolism will contribute to healing. Oda may not have dont biology but this is something simple. I’m face palming so much.
Luffy doesn’t have a special healing ability but his metabolism is abnormal his body makes use of things quicker than in a normal person.

On another note, watched the Anime and it elaborates more on Bege and earlier parts of the arc. We're told Bege liked to kill the leaders of families and watch the internal squabble that ensued. I think this more or less gives us an idea of how things may conclude. IF Big Mom will go down either by death, or maybe fall into a coma, the siblings will fight to take leadership of the Pirate crew and this will essentially make the crew weaker as there's nothing to bind them anymore.

While this chapter was exciting, I'm more interested in what becomes of Germa after this arc and the BMP. Will they end up taking over Totland? Will they still be a part of the WG? What are the WG going to do in light of what's transpired?

@Pro Ban Corps I'm facepalming so much by reading this as well but oh well. You do get that Brook is a skeleton? He has no digestive system at all, strictly speaking, he can't drink at all. It is all a gag. You guys are assuming way too much.

@kcd Since you still believe in that accelerated digestion without realizing that its a gag, a moment for fun, go re-read chapter 827. Both Chopper and Luffy are fat in one panel and in the next they are both back to normal. Did Chopper unlock that mysterious ability as well? :facepalm
That is a gag moment. We can assume it's gag due to humor. However, Luffy losing fat after Cracker and during Katakuri aren't gag moments, especially if we get an explanation. It's usually not that hard to tell the difference between a gag moment and a serious moment.
Exactly, its over-exaggerated, by a lot. In this example, while Nami spoke few words he burned it all in a matter of seconds. In fight with Katakuri he was less fat and had to run to burn it, quite contradicting actions. Why run it off when he can burn it even faster by doing nothing? It is a gag, simple as that. Oda loves those and One Piece is full of those moments but hardcore fans trying to justify gag moments with some scientific explanations lol.
And since we getting scientific, if he really burned it that fast there is no way he would last 1 hour without food, he would die of hunger. He would burn his muscle mass as well and there was never such indication. You can try to justify gag moment all you want but they remain a gag.
Against Katakuri Luffy had to burn up energy to lose fat. Against Cracker, he went into Gear 4 mode and lost fat as result since, according to Luffy, it burns up energy. Hell, it might even be debatable if Luffy would be doing better against Katakuri on a full stomach, if anyone brought that up before.

I actually forgot if or when Luffy explained though.

Him being able to stand up despite injuries and beatings is bullshit, but this is One Piece, and Luffy's known to have insane stamina. Poison didn't keep him from beating Crocodile or surviving Impel Down and then going on to free Ace. Or hell, let's look at Zoro and how he was able to stay conscious and still stand despite taking Luffy's exhaustion and pain on top of his own, when Luffy himself was knocked out.

Yet he still eats and drinks and even in dire situations jokes about being just skeleton and how this makes him immune to electricity... you’ve not complained about it before..
Brook being immune to things due to gag must change in a dire situation in your opinion too??? But it didn’t vs big mom. So they may Be gag, but if it’s kept consistent in serious situations they they are not gagas anymore.. just like that luffys abnormal metabolism means he uses up food quicker and the body prioritises thins... so wound clotting and healing process will use up nutrients first... if luffys body consumes thins that fast then the healing process will be naturally faster..
Just to add Luffy at the village they met vivi couldn’t digest food like he does now I remember but since G2/3 he’s being showing insane metabolism

@M3J I get it, he burns calories fast. Still, its over-exaggerated by 100 times. Otherwise, as i said, he would die of hunger if he wouldnt eat for 1 hour.
My main objection here is that, because of him burning calories faster, he has some healing ability which matters mid-fight. Absolute BS.

Both Impel Down and Marineforddidn'tt have the same situation as we have here. There he was getting weaker and weaker to a point that he cant go on anymore few times, Ivankov fixing him up with his ability made him go on.
Here, there is no Ivankov to fix him up, he was getting weaker and weaker to a moment where he collapsed. Then BS magic happened and he went g4, which is extremely hard on the body, while a second ago he was having trouble to stand, and is fighting like nothing happened, like he's refreshed and at peak of his strength.

Is this real?
By highlighting these scenes Oda explains to us readers how luffy's metabolism works. That's what distinguishes those scenes from gag scenes.
He has shown in numeral occasions that Luffys metabolism works faster than average:
- After he fought Blueno and was worn out after having used Gear 2 he was able to regain his stamina by eating two pieces of meat.
- In Impel Down after luffy suffered from Magellan's poison and received Ivankov's hormones to enhance his healing abilities, his body managed to recover from the poisoning in 20 hours, which - stated by Ivankov - for a normal human should take 2 days. Ivankov noted this to be more than a miracle
- Again Impel down, after recovering from the poison and being extremely skinny, he managed to eat several days' worth of food in the nick of time and instantly recover to his normal state with all of his muscle mass restored.
- Now in whole cake Island we have several instances in which this fast working metabolism is highlighted by Oda again.
- After the cracker fight, after having used g4 two times successively, we readers were specifically shown how fast his bkdy burns calories.
- In the katakuri-fight he didn't use G4 before eating the mochi, so he has to run to get his metabolism working. Again highlighted. But you said these two scenes work pretty contradicting. Elaborate how.
- Even the tooth-regrowing scene, which was mostly for gag-purposes, served as a hint that luffy's healing abilities just work faster. Again it's even highlighted by luffy saying that his body functions differently.
-Also after waiting half-dead on the field for Sanji, after eating Sanji's bento, Luffy reverted from skin and bones to his regular size again.

So in this arc, Oda invested a lot of panels showing that Luffy's metabolism works way faster than that of a average human. But it's not that he came up with this for just this arc, as shown by the scenes from Justice Gate and Impel down.

Then we obviously have the chopper scene, where a fast working metabolism is not mentioned or hintet at at all. Obviously gag. The difference between this scene and all the above-mentioned scenes should be comprehensable.

Now you can tell me where I present you with contradicting theories, instead of just telling me, that I do so.

Luffy has a strong will... he’s done something similar Cos cracker. Tho off screen. But you can’t tell me cracker didn’t land attacks on him for 12hrs... Also you’re comparing stamina from two years ago when he was a weak lil twerp to post two years when he can eat at the big boys table??
Anyway... if you haven’t eaten for long your body breaks down it’s self for important processes. Obviously this will not be exaggerated... but as we saw when Sanji met Luffy at the meeting point he was shrivelled up. This should answer your very well thought but cute question.

Dude the Ivankov in impel down is the perfect understanding of luffys metabolism and sped up healing rate... but knowi how stubborn he is... he’ll still carry on

I am all out of facepalms. This amazing healing ability you two speak of doesn't exist. You dont know what you are speaking of.

I'll be specific this time. Luffy's recovery(healing) is accelerated yes but the question is when. Healing ability isn't prioritized during the fight, he uses all the calories on the fight, on the movement. If anything, healing is slower compared to healing while in the state of inactivity. Do you know what happens when you keep moving (not to mention fighting and getting beaten to a degree Luffy is) with an injury? It gets worse!
This healing ability you speak of is even more ineffective while fighting and his injuries are getting even more severe. His increased recovery never ever made a difference during the fight. It only made a difference after the fight, when he rests like after each battle and in Impel down where he was resting while tied down.
Do I need to replenish my facepalms now?

OK seems you facepalming yourself has left some serious aftermaths.
If you backtrack, I answered to you claiming that Luffy's healing abilities don't exist.

Luffy enduring hits from Katakuri is another story, that you discussed with other people here. Seems you lost track of what you are talking about with whom. Of course he is not miracously healing during battle. When did I say that?

See I have previously stated in my post that it is a normal process in everyone, but it is acclerated in luffy. What youre pointing out is the case for normal humans... For example zoro after the mihawk fight(Pre timeskip but to show the difference in heaking capabilities) kept opening his wounds, where that to be luffy he might open it but it rarely hinders him. Yes hes taking more damage... but his body ont just be stagnant or else he'd have collapsed now... but selective reading wont let you understand this...
But hey good criticism of the Manga. Wonder why you didnt complain about this when croc poisoned luffy and he didnt die and still fought for time... Or when he fought marigold thos he took in so much air and blew back out...
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---
Also tbh... He's only gotten one or two on screen fatal injuries... Others have been punches/blunt hits... Luffy has higher durabilities to these attacks... hes rubber so you can beat it for a while(no puns intended).

If I take out the part about luffy unlocking this ability and his body adapting to it, we are basically saying the same thing.

if you exert yourself a lot, your body will naturally burn through energy. Gear 4th is not just using the mechanics of Gear 2nd, it's also straining his muscles. Just being in Gear 4th alone and doing nothing in itself is a difficult task.
Thanks for this post, that's one of the points I've been trying to relay, what's even better was what you said afterwards, see below

Bar Gear 4th, Luffy's metabolism is 3x that of the average person. Nami said this right after they got saved by Jimbei.
This nail, you hit it on the head, Lol.
What our friend wasn't open to or willing to accept as relevant (on multiple occasions) is what you said here, someone whose metabolism is faster than others will heal faster as well, he said it's irrelevant, I don't get why that is, and thanks for the panel, I was thinking of uploading it myself, Oda really took his time to explain why luffy shrinks fast, this shouldn't even be an argument.

Is this real?
By highlighting these scenes Oda explains to us readers how luffy's metabolism works. That's what distinguishes those scenes from gag scenes.
He has shown in numeral occasions that Luffys metabolism works faster than average:

I must say, really good points you've stated here, I couldn't have inked it any better than this, and kudos to you and all the brave warriors that fought really hard till the end, he finally acknowledged that shit, lol.

I'll be specific this time. Luffy's recovery(healing) is accelerated yes but the question is when. Healing ability isn't prioritized during the fight, he uses all the calories on the fight, on the movement
Yes, indeed it is, it's because he has higher metabolism than others.
That could explain why he healed or got better from the silent whistle attack. It's not so bs after all.

Luffy does eat five times a day, and he doesn't burn calories so fast that he has to eat every hour or so. Looks like you're making a big deal out of this. Again, didn't Luffy still fight Crocodile and save Robin and Cobra despite being stabbed and poisoned? Didn't he continue to fight Lucci despite multiple stabs? EVen slashes didn't stop Luffy from saving Ace.

I know, but Luffy was still surviving and fighting until it got too far. Oda's likely just bullshitting to make Luffy actually not lose, which is whatever.

Lol, this seems like an intense argument. I always got the impression that he can heal injuries fast by eating meat, so if he was able to eat some meat during this fight, I think that would make him heal at a faster rate. Other than that, no, I don' think he can heal himself, especially in the middle of a fight.
