Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

He will probably be killed by Blackbeard, I am afraid.
I think, and I hate to say this.... we are going to get a Zombie Whitebeard and Zombie Ace, probably Zombie Xebec and Zombie Roger

Kid is definitely very very strong. Injuring a sweet commander
Kidd did not injure a Sweet Commander, that was Urouge's doing!
Every other Supernova lost against Mama's Commanders bar Luffy and Urouge (who later lost to Cracker).

You doubt BB can do it? I dont
Really strong people IMO would rather die than be used, the only way the zombie pirates would be relevant is if the BB pirates themselves use their shadows to power them

Weevil's shadow going into a WB Zombie seems plausible at least

You think he would submit to the person who killed his father?
I just cant see it, unless they imprison him witch would still be dangerous since he would break out and fight them for his shadow, i mean the main reason Moriah was able to subdue soo many people and take their shadows was because they were weak, and the minute people who would never submit ran into him he lost his army, the SH were prepared to die than live in the shadows and im pretty sure all strong people are the same.

Moriah should be able to take someone's shadow without them noticing. And it's hard to take it back when you will die instantly in the sunlight.

In the Strawhats' case, they were trapped by Moriah on his gigantic ship. He underestimated the Strawhats, but I think Moriah would be smart enough to not try something like that against someone much stronger than him.

It is impossible for him to do that, also there is CoO, and like i pointed out the majority of people would rather die than be used as slaves in One Piece.

Yes that is the point, they cant get strong shadows to use on Newgate and the others because those people wont just take it lying down.

I hope you are wrong but it is possible that we see some Edo Tensei(or whatever the name was) in One Piece too but as Shasha23 said, without powerful shadows it doesnt work, however, 2-3 powerful corpses with 2-3 powerful shadows is manageable. For example, once Kaido is defeated, Shiryu and Moriah sneak in and steal Kaido's shadow and use it to empower 1 corpse, on the battlefield a powerful guy dies and they steal his too(possibly Garp) and one more.

On the other hand, killing Moriah and giving his powers to Burgess could be another route to take, I think Burgess could become a serious threat with that one. Shadow Asgard of the Shadow Champion Jesus Burgess paired with Doppelganger... That would be quite an enemy to deal with.

I doubt that. Had he wanted to kill Moriah, he could have done it off-screen, just like with Absalom. Oda doesn't really kills characters like that, not one of the former schibukai.

What other reason is Moriah relevant this late in OP?
You underestimate Moriah. He has an unfinished, very tragic, story-line and a single minded obsession to kill Kaido. We have never seen him get really serious. What better place to show he still got what it takes than Wano? If there's anything or anyone that might remind him who he was in the past ( a rival of a yonkou. (And you don't get to even reach a yonkou, let alone fight him unless yyou are quite powerful yourself. The strawhats yourney should be a good reminder of that.) him of his former self is going to be Luffy. With Perona and Zoro already becoming a nakama, its only a matter before Moriah joins the grand fleet. The strawhats are going to be the nakama that will never die, exactly what Moriah needs.

Oda creates devil fruits that are a reflection of his characters, both thematically and narratively. Can you really see a brute like Burges bothering with hax abilities of Kage-Kage no mi? The fruit would be wasted on him.
No, Blackbeard won't kill Moriah. He needs him. Besides, invitation to join his group is an acknowledgment of Moriah's status and strength.

Its easy to undetestimate Gecko, but he had proven to be very tough and opportunistic, when he wishes so. And i doubt we have seen everything his df and himself, can offet.

Did you see how powerful Moriah became with Shadow Asgard? That is perfect for a brute like Burgess.

My point is, Oda doesnt waste panels to show us the same guy fighting twice. We saw Moriah fight in his arc and in MF war, getting the same stuff for the 3rd time... What is the point?

1. What makes you think this?
2. He has to find out where their bodies are buried too. The manga made it seem like it was info only those close to the Whitebeard and Red Haired Pirates were privy to.

1. Moriah being involved means Zombies are going to be used in some capacity. Shock factor dictates a beloved character we know becoming a "Special" Zombie. I said WB because that would be most shocking and hurtful to us readers because he died so spectacularly.
2. I doubt their location is that well hidden and if it was, anyone weak enough that did know BB could just break until the information came out.

Can you imagine Burgess sneaking around and collecting shadows needed for shadow asgard? When there's swinging fists to be done, all for just one ability of kage kage no mi? Nah. There are a lot of devil fruits better suited for his character's theme. I've been thinking how Urouge's df would be absolute perfection for Burgess. Just imagine, a character that already gets hit a lot and suffers a lot of damage. Its absolutely perfect for Burgess. A zoan devil fruit would be good as well.

As for your second reply, what is the point of bringing back despicable characters like Spandam and Bellamy if it's not to show character growth? Oda already did that with Bellamy back in dressrosa arc, even if to a degree. Why bring Lucci back and promote him to Cp 0? Oda likes to weave a delicate web of minor character plots that intertwine and beautifully add to the overall story and progress of the plot. He doesn't like to leave characters behind if he can help it.

As for Marineford arc, the purpose of Moriah's battles was to fortify the opinion of how low he has fallen and how much his strength dimnished in comparison to other powerful characters of similar position. Jinbei and Doflamingo make a remark about that, always subtlety implying he was much better than that back in his prime. And to of course, set the events for the abolishment of warlord system.

Moriah will fight once again because he's still relevant. Whether that will be directly, or through his zombies, remains to be seen, however, he will get a measure of vengeance against Kaido. Its literally impossible for it not to happen, given how Oda likes happy endings for characters with tragic past. Chopper and Robin are a good example of that. Willpower is another thing that Moriah proved he has in abundance when storming beehive island back in chapter 925. He showed genuine care for Absalom. And I think that, in real, shounen fashion, will be the fuel for Moriah to surpass his limits in Wano arc and assist Strawhats however he can.

Its not impossible that he'll tag team with someone and battle a yonkou commander as well. He has already faced 10th commander of Whitebeard's fleet, Curiel, albeit off-panel. Though since both were potrayed without injuries later on, they were probably evenly matched.

And I'm pretty sure whichever Manga that is, it isn't One Piece.
You should post a panel to support your claim if you really want to go down that lane.
