I said that they were equal with the slight chance that Shanks might be stronger or the other way around.
That's the point. Shanks can't be stronger than Mihawk as long Shanks is a swordsman. Only way to make Shanks stronger than Mihawk is to state him as a non-swordsman. Ur argument with soccer and stuff doesn't work here. Since Oda made one of his protagonist go after the strongest (Mihawk). If it wasn't for him (Zoro) we could doubt Mihawk's title.

My argument: Mihawk is for plot-reasons the strongest. To define my plot argument; if Mihawk gets beaten, Zoro's goal would change. But after all that hype and build-up (10years), it is rather impossible to happen. Especially since the fanbase is looking forward to a Zoro vs Miahwk fight <- that's what I mean by plot. Not sure if the right word, but nevertheless, my argument should be understandable.

Why should Mihawk have to challenge Shanks for the title if Shanks doesn't hold it?
Out of pride reasons. Mihawk could not claim that title for himself, without defeating Shanks. Even if Shanks is not interested in that title, he was still a equal opponent for Mihawk.

That at least how I judge Miahwk's character. He seems to me as someone who likes to fight. While Shanks seems rather passive to me. So Mihawk challenging Shanks would make sense.

About the fanboy issue, let's get it straight: I like both, Shanks and Mihawk equally. In fact my forum nick is copied from Shanks nick, just used my actual real hair colour for the name. Im not a Mihawk fanboy, it might have seemed that way since Im arguing 20+ pages for his favour. Anyway, before the ID arc, I used to argument that BB could take on Mihawk. Obviously I was wrong, but my point is I argue based on manga facts.

@Ero-Sanji Post #377

The reason why Mihawk is "stronger" than Shanks is exactly that laid back attitude of his IMHO.

The tittle "strongest swordsman" is not like the world cup. There is no such thing as World Swordsman Championship that give materialistic like belt or cup along with your title. So far, it's not an organized championship.

How do you earn it? Go around rampaging against swordsmen without being defeated. It won't go that smoothly, challenging the same person over and over will likely happen. But, Mihawk did this. He earned it and has been for several years undisputed. Who gives this tittle? An organization? No! It's those swordsman themselves. Those who claims to be stronger, must challenge Mihawk. And none has rip him from his title. Shanks as a "swordsman" is not interested in being one, thus "he is not the strongest swordsman", thus "he is inferior to Mihawk" so far.

Shank is happy as #3 or 4. For him, it's not worth the trouble to try. Before he lost an arm he probably didn't hold the title either. There are other things more important to him than being stronger than Mihawk. He has a strong crews and reliable nakama while Mihawk probably use his position as WG's "dog" to gain this title successfully. Seiryuu is probably also weaker than Mihawk. Of course in the future character progress, we wouldn't know who would rip this title before Zoro or it would be Zoro himself. Right now he has been on winning streak against swordsman. He's on his way.

In conlusion, Shanks never get the title as far as we know, because he never deserves it. As long as Shanks is a "swordsman" he will always to me at least be inferior to Mihawk. Until of course Shanks is proven a >insert ability< man or character progression in the future.

But why is it so hard to even think about this sentence. Mihawk might be the strongest swordsman but that doesn't necessarily make him the strongest fighter. I mean if Shanks can destroy apart of a ship even when holding back imagine what he can do when fully focused. It's just too soon to make a statement. Yes, I do get you're argument but you wright as if you know, as if Oda whispered in your ear. That's what I'm trying to say, it's just too soon to rely on a mere title.

Zoro's main goal is Mihawk and I as well don't think that someone else might beat him and I don't think Oda has that in mind as well and thus he's preventing Shanks and Mihawk from fighting since Shanks might win. Either way Zoro's main goal is to beat Mihawk but have you ever thought of who Luffy wants to succeed?

@hibar90

Sorry but you're whole post doesn't make sense to me. So because Shanks doesn't want to take the title from Mihawk then he's weaker than him? Does that sound right to you? Sorry I don't get it. WB didn't want the title pirate king should we assume he was weaker than Roger for that? Yet again you speak as if you knew how to earn the title. Guys, please, no one knows for sure how you gain the title. I think it was Rayleigh on this site who has a nice theory of the title. He think that it may be the coat since Rayleigh of the manga bore the same coat as Mihawk does now.

I do sense a lot of fanboyism around this cause somethings doesn't ad up imo. Mihawk is regarded as the strongest swordsman and even if there were someone out there stronger than him he wouldn't be stronger cause he doesn't have the title... Strange...

At the end of the day it's just a title. The pirate king is regarded by some as the richest, to others he's the strongest, by some the most famous or among our heroes he's the pirate with most freedom. I won't accept Mihawk being the stronger fighter as a fact until Oda himself says it and I won't accept Shanks being the stronger as a fact.

Being Pirate King doesn't mean the strongest. And we are talking about two very different title.

Let's focus on Mihawk title. What do you think it means?

There are people who are stronger than Mihawk, but they cannot do so by using only swords. Which means they would shoot Mihawk if they have the chance.

Does Shanks has the ability to rip the title now? We don't know. If I say he would, then I have to add the word "probably". And that's not a very convincing argument isn't it. And what evidence do I have that Shanks can beat Mihawk now using "only" his sword? My argument will have no support.

But what I do know, if he wants to beat Mihawk at sword fight, he has to make damn sure that he's at least a worthy contender to gain the title right? Because if he "wants" to beat Mihawk at swords fight (only valid if he's a swordsman) then he would automatically get the title even if he just want to beat Mihawk and nothing more. If he beat Mihawk with a pistol, then my argument is invalid.

My argument is only valid if Shanks "is" a swordsman. Because Mihawk cannot hold this title without ever defeating Shanks (assuming he's a swordsman).

Shanks set his own goal at being a pirate, and he has his own standard at being a swordsman. He doesn't want/need to be as good as Mihawk. Thus, he does not hold the title. Can he/does he has the ability to be the strongest swordsman? Yes IMHO. But, simply because of his attitude, he's not using his potential at this particular one skill.

If he is able to beat Mihawk using only swords. But chose not to, just because he's not bothered. I still have no evidence for this. I want to be able to choose a side with a solid proofs.

If later on Shanks is a >insert ability< man, then I will give my vote to him. If later Shanks challenged Mihawk and actually beat him, then I'll give my vote to him. But as of now, seeing Shanks is a swordsman, and do not hold the title, Mihawk reigns victorious.

Sure and I respect you're opinion it's just that for me it's not enough with a "simple" title and looking at these people's past it's seems that they have only fought and neither has actually won and thus Mihawk who really wants to be the champ without doubt was constantly challenging Shanks for a duel until Shanks lost his arm. Mihawk doesn't want to face Shanks because it's a lose-lose situation either you win over you're armless rival or you lose against him. As for me this is what happened but let's not also forget that Oda said that Shanks power hasn't subsided instead it increased.

Oh and for me the greatest swordsman is the greatest swordsman. He wields the most powerful sword(or makes his own sword the most powerful), has the most knowledge of swords and the art of swordsmanship etc.. It doesn't necessarily make you the greater fighter against a fellow user of the sword.

Fox666,

Whitebeard did not use the Gura Gura no Mi in his clash with Shanks DOT
Can physical strength cut the sky? No. Can vibrations cut the sky? Yes. If i use your argument idea, this is what i know:

Did Croc use his sand or arid ability when facing Mihawk? No. Did Mihawk use his swordsmanship when facing Croc? Yes. Which means Mihawk is not Croc's equal. According to your kind of argument.

But no. I won't use that argument, since i don't accept your argument about WB not using his full power.

---

BlackHair,

before answering your question, i must refuse your thinking that "equal" or "rival" refer to exact same main skill. There's no reason to me why Croc, or Enel, or Smoker, or Kidd, or Law, can't be Luffy's rival or equal.

About nr2, I don't understand why you are stating Shanks as a swordsman, yet expecting him to use other skills. Vista, Mihawk, Zoro and other named swordsman in the entire series never used any other skills besides swordsmanship. That's why they are called swordsman.
Anyway, you are basing your "Shanks is not a swordsman" argument on non existing facts. While Im basing "Shanks is a swordsman" argument on existing facts.
My answer's Haki. Jozu, Marco, and WB himself even give Shanks' Haki a compliment. Maybe you consider Haki as a support skill that can be used only if you channel it on some weapon, but i consider it as a whole other skill. Just like WB's quake, which can be channeled to his bisento, yet even if so it's not called polearm or bisento techniques and thus is considered a whole other skill instead. Which is why i state Shanks' main skill is not swordsmanship. That's my argument considering Haki as Shanks' main skill. It's not my expectations or wish or maybes, since i consider Haki, a skill Shanks already have by now, as a skill on its own and not included in Shanks' swordsmanship.

On the other hand, Shanks has never been referred to as a master swordsman, or even good swordsman, by anyone in the manga. The title Yonkou or Red-Hair was more often mentioned and held more significant meaning when mentioning Shanks.

Im sry Croco high tier? That's totally absurd. Croco was the the first major opponent! That alone proofs that Croco is not high-tier. In the 3rd fight Luffy was poisoned and yet Croco was not able to match his speed and physical-strength
Croc's first bounty was also 80 million beri. People can progress, right?

Going by ur logic Luffy is already high tier. Yet he was shown greatly outmatched in this war. Can you see past Luffy (<- less speed and strength, also no gears) winning against a high-tier after three matches? Like Mihawk, Kizaru, Akainu? Hell no!
No, Luffy's still mid-tier in my opinion. Luffy strategize and use Croc's weakness fully. The strategy (Luffy using water, blood) and luck (Croc's not killing him, twice. Croc's underestimating him enough to make him think of further strategies) played big role in Croc's defeat. Do you think we can set example from enemies Luffy already defeat? I don't think so. Enel was high-tier due to his DF power and mantra, yet Luffy used his extreme luck in his rubber properties and golden ball who Enel himself gave to him (poor Enel, need to be handicapped so much). Shiki (in anime, but incorporated by Oda) was high-tier, yet Luffy beaten him using bird to fly (??? i haven't watched so i dunno the exact battle), and using lightning to further empower his Gigant Axe. It's strategy (bird-riding) and luck (there happened to be a lightning storm that moment) that brought Luffy to defeat the big bosses. And Oda gave Luffy those two, strategy and luck, to defeat big bosses, because he struggled to protect peace, freedom etc, and an unfair fight and strategy was justified because Luffy was the protagonist trying to save many people from the big bosses.

I don't get ur understanding. It's totally screwed up.

Those clashes means crap. This war was chaotic, like a royal rumble, hardly any 1vs1. Opponents switched faster than I can switch my underwear. Ppl can appear from behind, blind spots etc. Mihawk is swinging at Luffy & co, as Croco interrupts.

Mihawk fired a slash at WB, which Jozu parried. Though every reader was expecting a fight between those, they fought different opponents. Croco clashed with Jozu, Flamingo, Mihawk and he was also seen helping Jinbei, Luffy and Ace. Crco never fought any battles to end, heck all we know is that clashed. Seriously how can you put Croco based on a simple clash equal to Mihawk? This is ridiculous. The only 1vs1 was Mihawk vs Vista.

According to my understanding Croco though being a mid-tier, should be able to stand his own against a high-tier. But in a long run, he would go down for sure. And facing guys like Mihawk or Flamingo, Im not even sure if he can scratch them. His only strength is his logia, which is so far the weakest in the entire series.
Yet, those rumble happened to all of them. Dofla's power and level is mysterious, there's no proof that he is stronger than Croc. He attacked Croc from behind, didn't work, and attack Croc head-on, they clashed. From the clash, there was not a single panel signing Croc in pain or losing in the battle. Are you saying after the scene changed and focused on Luffy, Croc and Dofla stopped the fight and has a casual conversation?

("You're weak, Croc. I was holding back. Will you surrender? Fufufu" "Yead, i'm weaker than you. I was lucky you didn't use your full strength against me, but i must maintain my composure in front of the readers")

That kind of conversation without kept fighting? I don't think so. At least we have the picture of them clashing, and we can measure their blow quality at least in that scene, instead of depend on no.1 swordsman title and ignoring the rest. Please read my post to Schabrak below also, maybe my point is clearer. About Yonkou title also.

----

Schabrak,

Yet your forget, that Shichibukai aren't allowed to have a crew and therefore are accepted as such single individuals spreading fear into "virgin" GrandLine pirates. They may be silver medalists, but we don't know if those titles are still appropriate.
And Yonkou required to have a thousand crews minimum? THEN he/she is reigned as a Yonkou? You think WB's turf is fearsome primarily because his crews? No, Brownbeard wasn't afraid anymore to step into WB's territory because WB's dead. This is an example of individual Yonkou power, and Shanks has the same stated title. Is Whitebeard title "Whitebeard and crew, The Yonkou"? No. "Whitebeard the Yonkou". Is Shanks' title, "Red-Hair and crew, the Yonkou"? No, it's "Red-Hair The Yonkou". The Yonkou is the one reigning, not primarily because his crew, but primarily because his own power, just like Whitebeard of Yonkou gave as an example about how a Yonkou title was established. I don't accept argument about "A yonkou is strong because their crews, vast territories, etc", since an example of Yonkou is strongest man in the world.
So it's the perfect example to compare those two individually.

Also reasoning that his crew is reason for him being stronger, doesn't make sense, just as downtalking Mihawk because of some panels of exchanging sword clashes. I would like to see Shanks fight somebody of Vistas class, but Oda didn't give us such. So stop pretentding, that his encounter with Joz or somebody else high ranking would have ended so much different, if we got no way compare those two guys.
Down-talking? Pretending? I have as my support the equal blow against WB and the ability to defend against Akainu's offense, and making Akainu's first shocked face ever to see in the manga. So what proof / support do you have that Shanks is weaker than Mihawk? The unknown ranking of swordsmanship owned by Shanks, since it has never been even stated?

It's not clear if Kizaru had really felt threatened or if it was a joke as always. Yeah Ben Backman could probably fight equaly, but that's not the point here, as we do not know how MIhawk would have fought him, proably like Rayleigh in his prime, as he seems to be his successor in swordman ranking, having a good match with the admiral,[ with every admiral?]
The joke was made with Marco "how scary...Whitebeard Pirates", yet Kizaru continued to attack, right? It's not clear what Kizaru felt? Than i must say: until it's proven otherwise, then my interpretation from Kizaru halting his chase and attack toward Dragon's son which is a huge sin (as referred by Akainu), is that Kizaru seriously felt threatened by Ben's gunning at him.

About "Akainu > Croc = Shihibukai = Jinbei = Ace"!? WHAT THE FUC*! Stop saying all of he swordsman are equal! That we have no proof of! Your argument is, that since Crocodile attacked Akainu from behind and by so it hasn'd shown him being strong, but Akainu killing Ace by attacking him from behind isn't?
Ace and the admiral exchanged exactly ONE blow, one using a explosion of power, him dying through other circumstances has nothing to do with it, this time not even about dis-/advantages of two fighters, since Ace was in a half dead state for a week.
I mean the head-on clash, the "The name of this era is Whitebeard!" clash. In that clash, Ace's fire was burned and Akainu stated that magma was able to burn even fire. "My power is superior to yours!" It showed that Akainu's attack quality is higher than that of Ace.

And remember, Ace = Jimbei (from 5-day battle flashback), and from the panels we have seen in this manga, Croc's hook = Dofla's kick. Croc's hook also has the same quality as Mihawk's iceberg-cutting (yes i know) blade, seeing the reaction from those two were not showing pain due to receiving each other's attack (Mihawk: "Crocodile". Croc: "Be careful not to be stepped on, Mihawk"). Akainu had said to Jimbei: "As a Shichibukai, you should know the difference in our power!"

Who would deny that Kuma is no.1 repeller? That Moria is no.1 shadowmaster? That Croc is no.1 sand manipulator? You can't separate a specific skill like swordsmanship from other specific skills just because some are gained from Devil Fruits, some are gained from Hakis, and some are gained from neither. Yet those number ones in their respective abilities, they're all Shichis.

From what we know in the manga, those blows' quality were equal, and to state otherwise because "Mihawk is the no.1 swordsman, so he must be holding back" is a baseless, groundless, non-evident speculation coming only from Mihawk fanatics.

I came to the conclusion that it just doesn't make ANY sense arguing with you, as you are biased on Shanks, sorry I have to mention it again, but everybody else here would probably agree with that.
I must correct, everybody biased on Mihawk would agree, because they choose to see the unrevealed "maybes" of Mihawk's so-called "true strength" and saying that Mihawk actually saw this war as a game only. Without any proof.

You put Shanks into a misterious "super-level", just because he stopped Akainus attack unlike most other priates. He is just lucky for having such strong haki, which nobody else but WB, Boa and Luffy showed to have.
Nothing mysterious here. I put Shanks at the same level of Old WB, since the clash at Moby Dick was equal, since the stated title was equal, and since the all warring sides' response to Red-Hair Pirates announced by Shanks was to end the war like Shanks suggests.

That makes him advantagous, but doesn't proof him to be stronger than Mihawk.
I totally agree with you especially on this statement.

Yet, many Mihawk-supporters wouldn't accept that until what we've seen now, Shanks is more advantageous. Many without proof state that "Mihawk didn't have interest to challenge Shanks anymore due to his one-arm loss, and because Mihawk would surely win so he wasn't interested anymore". I don't accept this "maybe" and "should be" myths. Show me fight scenes between Mihawk and any Shichibukai, and show me the result that stated Mihawk is stronger than other Shichibukai.

I do sense a lot of fanboyism around this cause somethings doesn't ad up imo. Mihawk is regarded as the strongest swordsman and even if there were someone out there stronger than him he wouldn't be stronger cause he doesn't have the title... Strange...
What proof do we have that there is a stronger swordsman than Mihawk out there? A discussion can't be based on merely assumption, possibilities or fanboyism. It's about facts. As said before, we have no reason or whatsoever to doubt Mihawk's superiority among swordsmen. Just to make my point clear, Shanks passive behaviour is not a proof for his superiority, just a assumption.

He is the "strongest swordsman", not the one who has the "best skill in swordsmanship". Means There could be still a guy out there, who has better swordsmanship than Mihawk, but would still lose to him. A sword duel is not only about swordsmanship, it is also about agility, haki, physical strength etc.

That is my understating. After all it's a shounen manga about fighting, not a manga about sport-contests.

Lastly about deciding who is the strongest swordsman, I agree with hibar90. The strongest swordsman will be decided by fellow swordsman.

Mihawk might be the strongest swordsman but that doesn't necessarily make him the strongest fighter.
Mihawk as teh strongest swordsman is logically the strongest among swordsman. No one said he is the strongest fighter. That would be a different title.

About haki, plz read the first part addressed to Antares (just below).

I see. The whole time I thought you assumed Shanks as some kind of one-man army. But it seems I was wrong. Let me explain my thoughts on haki:

Haki is supplement skill. It is not a skill on it's own. There are no haki man out there. Haki is a boost, it can be added to imbue weapons and probably physical body party, to surpass the original strength. A example: a sword imbued with a haki is stronger than the same sword without haki.

For the other haki abilities, such as nullifying devil fruit intangibility and knocking out fodder aren't useful while fighting Mihawk, since he shouldn't have a devil fruit and obviously he is not a fodder. The only additional haki ability, which should help Shanks fighting Mihawk, would be mind reading/hearing.

  • WB = quake devil fruit + kings haki + bisento -> quake man
  • Luffy = rubber devil fruit + kings haki -> rubber man
  • Rayleigh = swordsmanship + kings haki (SBS 58)-> swordsman
If a person eats a devil fruit, his fighting style will be named after that. Luffy and WB are the best examples. Even though both have the kings haki, there fighting style is still based on their devil fruit.

Now are swordsman any different? Most likely not. Since Rayleigh first mate of Roger (Zoro as parallel) is most likely a swordsman. Even though he wields the kings haki. Now why should Shanks be any different? Haki has proven to be not considered as the main skill. It is a boost skill or support skill, either defining should be fine.

On the other hand, Shanks has never been referred to as a master swordsman, or even good swordsman, by anyone in the manga. The title Yonkou or Red-Hair was more often mentioned and held more significant meaning when mentioning Shanks.
Hä..? Is Zoro a freaking master? No, but he is still a swordsman. And yes, it was stated in the datebook that Shanks has top sword skills. Also Yonko is a title and red-hair is his nickname. Neither of those are any fighting styles. Seriously ..

before answering your question, i must refuse your thinking that "equal" or "rival" refer to exact same main skill. There's no reason to me why Croc, or Enel, or Smoker, or Kidd, or Law, can't be Luffy's rival or equal.
I have no idea to which part of my post you are referring to. Neither what do you mean by equal/rival =! main skill?! You sure you mean me?

Croc's first bounty was also 80 million beri. People can progress, right?
Bounty doesn't represents the fighting power. Did I ever claimned Croc is mid-tier becuase of his bounty?! No, because he has the weakest logia, no physical ability furthermore he was the first major opponent. That's why.

He was beaten in just three matches against Luffy. Can you see Luffy beating Mihawk in three matches, in short intervals? I believe not.

Stop with your excuses. Croco has the weakest logia so far shown in the manga and he lacks physical strength and speed. That's why he is not a high tier. You think the Admirals are high tier because of only their logia?

His weakness is liquidness. Mihawk has just to piss on his sword and Croco is finished. I repeat, Corco was beaten by Luffy who was at that time several times weaker (physical strength) and slower. Now Luffy has Gears, yet he couldn't match Mihawk or any other high tier in the war.

But I agree with you, Luffy is somewhere between mid-tier and high tier. This post takes so long, so I don't want to write much about Shiki and Enel. Just that Shiki is most likely high tier and Enel a mid-tier. He also lacks physical strength and most of all experiences! Enel is too confident in his loga, if sea-stone or haki is used, he is helpless. See Enel vs Viper. Any confident Haki is user would finish Enel pretty fast I assume.

That kind of conversation without kept fighting? I don't think so. At least we have the picture of them clashing, and we can measure their blow quality at least in that scene, instead of depend on no.1 swordsman title and ignoring the rest.
Seriously, when did I ever say that Mihawk and Croco started talking? Don't accuse me with ur weird shit. There is a damn reason why I said that the battlefield was a royal rumble. Do you get it? There were more ppl beside Mihawk and Croco. Just like Mihawk's and Vista's fight was interrupted by the Pacifista, Miawhk's and Croco's fight must have been interrupted. Otherwise Croco wouldn't stand later helping Jinbei and Luffy. Not to mention Mihawk left the battle without scratches, even more proof that those two did not fight for real.

The one igrnoring the facts is you. Croco can't be high tier!

Dofla's power and level is mysterious, there's no proof that he is stronger than Croc. He attacked Croc from behind, didn't work, and attack Croc head-on, they clashed.
Flamingo didn't attacked Croco to intent to kill him. Rather to get his attention. Nothing more.

About proofs of Flamingo being stronger than Croco or Flamingo being high-tier: Well to be fair there are no proofs. But if you know anything about writing techniques, then you will agree with me that Flamingo will play a big ass role later. Oda is obviously planing sth big with him. He is definitely high tier, I have doubts on that. But unfortunately, I have no proofs. You can consider this as my prediction, which is not rly hard to predict xD

Please read my post to Schabrak below also, maybe my point is clearer. About Yonkou title also.
Yonko = Cap of a pirate crew. A pirate captain (Yonkou) is fighting his battles in armies (pirate crew vs). I have the whole manga supporting that. So I repeat, the title Yonkou is irrelevant in fair 1vs1 discussion between two high tiers. Since the title Yonkou only says about Shanks, that he is a high tier. But that was already clear.

Mihawk as teh strongest swordsman is logically the strongest among swordsman. No one said he is the strongest fighter. That would be a different title.
And thus it's impossible to prove something like this with a title since in a fight among pirates you'll fight and not just sword duel.

I don't rly understand ur point. If Mihawk's title doesn't say that he is the best among swordsman, what else does it say?

Since everyone is using the strongest swordsman argument

I do. Especially since he is beyond his prime and not active. I believe Rayleigh once hold the title strongest swordsman for himself.

Shanks wins. WB was strongest man in the world and closest to the pirate king title. In Shanks battle with WB he appeared an even match, as well that hes one of the four emperors. Mihawk told Luffy that in order to be the pirate king he'd have to be stronger than the strongest swordsman. It'd be stupid to think that only the pirate king is stronger than the strongest swordsman and no one else can be. I do believe though that Mihawk is a beast and is stronger than the admirals (not combined) at least.

Yeah I see that:amuse

It's not about that he's not worthy the title but at the end of the day it's a title you fight for and earn. Shanks obviously isn't interested in the title and because of that it's impossible to say: "Just because Mihawk is the greatest swordsman he's the best fighter among people committed to the sword."

Mihawk is regarded as a swordsman in the Op world while Shanks isn't. So until we get a solid proof of that too then that's up for speculation as well and the evidence of Shanks always wielding a sword is good but then you'll have to admit that Beckman is a sharpshooter since he's always seen wielding a gun. Either way it's still impossible to prove anything at the moment and that is what I'm trying to say.

Obviously? Nothing is obvious. Just because of his laid back attitude doesn't necessarily mean he isn't interested. Or that he doesn't like fighting. Don't talk like u know that for a fact. That's just speculation.

But if he were interested then he would've dueled Mihawk anytime he could, no? When Mihawk and Shanks last saw each other for over 10 years Shanks was the one who asked Mihawk if he came to fight and that's when Mihawk responded that he since a long time ago deserted the idea of dueling the arm missing Shanks.

Ero-Sanji, would you stop posting your thoughts as facts please? Where is it shown that he is not regarded as a swordsman, while him having duells with Mihawks in the past is most likely poof that he is, just like his sword is, like his clash with Akainu und Whitebeard and his flag are.-_- Stop ignoring hints shown by Oda himself.

Also, where is it said, that they haven't met in the past 10 years?

Ero-Sanji - I do get ur point. But unlike u Im thinking of Mihawk's title more of a fact, not just a mere title. Simply because of Zoro. If it wasn't for him, we could indeed doubt the credibility of that title, but with sending Zoro after him and that hype of 10 years, that title turns imo to a fact.

Shanks most likely was defeated by Mihawk, after several duels of draw. I think he accepted defeat and let Mihawk have the title. Maybe that's why he isn't targeting Mihawk anymore, since he was defeated (lost the rivalry). I guess you could take it as matter of pride. Anyway, I don't think Shanks had no interest at all. Even if he is carefree, he certainely likes fighting and/or he doesn't run a way.

Uh no Its Mihawk who gave up.

Shanks was ready to go anytime
That scene shows me that most likely Mihawk always came to shanks to duel not the other way around

I just thought of something
Imagine what zoro would do if Mihawk lost his good arm! He would most likely give up on fighting Mihawk since hes not the same as he was before, So just maybe Mihawk was always challenging Shanks but when he lost his arm Mihawk gave up since winning against someone whos been a goal/rival with a handicap would mean nothing even if the the handicap didnt limit him

Well he hasn't yet. No one has ever said anything about swordsmanship when talking about Shanks, get it?

Cause Mihawk wouldn't want to face an one-armed man...

@Blackhair

Great, then we both understand each other and good to see that you said imo:p

I don't really think Shanks dreams were shattered. His dream was to be the King of the Pirates but he gave that dream to Luffy. Being the greatest Swordsman doesn't seem to be his dreams and even if he lost do you really think he would give up. Shanks is stubborn just look at him and Buggy go off;)

And just like Teddy bear said Shanks is ready to go anytime but being the greatest isn't his thing just like WB he just wanna hang out.

So your only argument is that every swordsman has to claim loudly that he's one in before a fight? That's not reasonable and idiotic imo. Sometimes I think that people give up on thinking for themself, as a lot of things in manga are self-explanatory for obvious reasons. :/ We aren't six years anymore. Shanks being a rival to Mihawks in swordfights is a hint for him being one. What else do you read out of that fact/comment? I gave so many reasons and you still ignore them for a reason I can't understand.
