Haki fighters?

Blackhair get yourself together... if it's a fight on live and dead, you will use anything to win, even if you are a proud swordfigther.[Is throwing a building onto your enemy swordfighting!?]Read some Vagabond for that matter. :P Sanji doesn't use his hands, because of the reason mentioned(comic relief and distinguishing from other fighters life Franky or Chopper) "and" because he wasn't trained in hand-to-hand combat.

But all that doesn't make someone less of a swordman, because haki is an addition not a combat style itself or does somebody can give me a single panel with somebody stating that? Sentomarou/Boa sisters use haki to increase their defense, but it's still only a fraction of what they are capable of. Haki helps someone to fight, it doesn't replace someones combat/fighting ability.

=> my opinion: Shanks is a swordfighter :)

WB is a quake-man (panel 5) and Luffy a rubber man (panel 4). Im not interested in further explaining, since it was already discussed.

About swordsmanship, it is similar to Sanji's fighting style. He as a cook, won't use his hands. Same for swordsman, who will only use blades. It's a matter of pride, determination and commitment.
did you read my post? quake powers are from his df, i said df user, same with luffy. im glad you're not interested in further explaining i've already read all you've had to say and im not buyin it.;)

you can be a swordsman and rely on other skills aswell. if you start useing other skills aswell it doesnt magically take away your sword skills.
Aside from power add on from haki, what proofs do you have about shank "other" abilities? I completely agree with the fact that Shank should be stronger. But at the moment we have no evidence. As far as we know he's a swordsman. If later it was shown that Shank has hahahapwnuall DF ability, it will falsify my hypothesis. But, that's ok for me, because right now the truth is Mihawk is the world's strongest swordsman and Shank is a swordsman. And I will choose to speak the truth rather than telling my own imagination/hope/prediction. Though I still seek the day when Oda will prove me wrong on this one.

I highly doubt you have read my past posts on this matter. Buying my arguments? funny. Unlike you Im basing my vote on manga facts. It's not me who is using arguments like "maybe he has sth else".

There has been votes to support their favourite character. There are also ppl who voted for a tie (honestly this might be the best vote, though not selectable). Lastly there are ppl who voted according to manga hints. Im actually fine wihth these 3 groups of voters, but there is another group, which I simply can't understand. That group is voting on manga arguments, which is used completely wrong. If not even sth made up. Honestly if you are a Shanks fan, vote for him and it's fine. But why the hell are ppl making up some ridiculous arguments and try to justify it by using the manga? As a OP fan and who generally likes to discuss about the manga, it pisses me the hell of.

On my previous post, sry about that. I should have explained. Now if you're not interested in my explanation, u might as well skip the rest of my post.

OnePiece unique theme is Devil Fruits. If a character gets a devil fruit, his fighting style will be named after this. WB has the kings haki, a bisento (sword) and his devil fruit. His haki will be imbued into his quake attacks and his bistento will be used to attack with his quake. WB is quake-man. His kings haki and swordsmanship (bistento) are supplements to his quake fighting style. Even though WB has swordsmanship, you can't call him a swordsman.

Similar case in Shanks. He has the kings haki and is most likely a swordsman. His haki will be used to imbue into his sword attacks. The kings haki is a supplement to his swordsmanship.

Also plz note: Haki is not a distinct skill, it is more like a boost.

Sanji won't use his hands, since it is his policy as a cook (Panel 3). And he has some skills with his hands (Panel 4).

Vegabond is a manga which reflects more our world. "Kill or get killed" is a suitable slogan for that manga. However OP is different, at least in my eyes. I can't see Zoro using anything else beside his swords. Even if he is about to die. A good example would be Sanji, he would never hit a women, even if is about to die. That's his policy. I don't see a similar case happening in Vegabond.

About that building, I don't rly think Zoro intended to crush Mr1 with that building nor did he try it to use it as decoy to start a successful attack behind it. Zoro was thrown towards that building and he just throw it (back) without any meaning. Either way, I don't see that building in anyway comparable with a "throw sand into the opponents eyes" attack. Since that building was not a serious attack.

He is a professional cook, of course his handling with kitchen knifes is excellent, but that doesn't make him a swordsman, give him much chances against other swordman, used to fight with swords. I doubt he has a good defense, using those. And hand-to-hand combat != skills with knifes :)

Let's get back to topic.

Sry, have to bring this up once more. Since I was misunderstood.

I never claimed Sanji to be swordsman! To state him as one, goes against my own definition of a swordsman. I was just trying to point out, that he posses other abilities beside his leg based fighting ability.

Zoro who trained insanely hard should have some good punches and kicks as well, yet he never used them mainly. 'Cause his commitment to swordsmanship says to only use swords. That's actually my whole point. A true swordsman won't use anything beside his swords.

really? i cant be called a swordsman, even if im a master at sword fighting, just because i also fire lazers out of my eyes?
Imho it's a clear No. You might have some skills in swordsmanship, but you not committed to that. So that's why I wouldn't call you a swordsman.

This argument.....

I think the whole issue here is that Oda made a MISTAKE when he made Mihawk a schichi.

Blackhair makes some very good points.
The issue is the concept of someone THAT strong being a WG/Marine puppet. Theoretically Mihawk should Atleast be on par with 1 of the admirals (if he even comes close to Shanks power)
Teach who was prepared to take on Both Garp And Sengoku claimed he wasnt ready to fight the Red Hair Pirates

It just comes down to the fact that his Position as a SHICHI does NOT fit that line of the plot and his speculated/supposed power.

IMO we just have to write it off as an early mistake ODA made....but then again, he could've corrected that at any time.

Well, again, the Shichibukai pirates have different levels of power. Moria for example, the Gorusei considered him being too weak for the position, while Doflamingo is a monster.

Second, the Shichibukai is supposed to be an organization as strong as the marines, don't underestimate them. Remember that they had no personal interest in the war, and that was more like a game for them.

Schabrak, thanks for being able to see the reason for my arguments. I'm glad there's at least a person with opposing views yet be relaxed about accepting others' argument aspects.

BlackHair, i had repeat myself several times about this post.

Whitebeard was a quakeman. Why was Whitebeard not CALLED a bisento man? Because he's able to use bisento techniques, but his MAIN SKILL is QUAKE. He can transfer his quake unto his bisento. It is NOT bisento techniques. One's title / main skill is gained from one's strongest skill. Shanks used a sword. Did anyone ever said in the manga, was it ever stated in the manga, that he was a swordsman? No. "Shanks the Red-Hair", "Shanks the Yonkou". Jozu and Whitebeard didn't even mention his sword or his sword abilities, yet they respected his Haki. So, if you're commited THEN you're a swordsman? How do you know he's committed? Just because he hadn't revealed any other skills yet? He used his sword for a simple slash at Whitebeard and a simple block at Akainu. How do you know that sword technique is his main skill? Before it was revealed that Whitebeard's power is quake, the only thing he showed us was that he attacked Shanks with his Bisento. Did you really believe, back then, that bisento skill was his main skill? How can he be called "The World's Strongest" and not "The World's no.1 Bisento Fighter", then? How do you know Brook is commited to swordsman more than his music? So what if Whitebeard's best skill with weapons was with Bisento, if he can destroy islands with his strongest skill which is the quake, which by the way can be imbued unto his Bisento just like Haki can be imbued to a sword? So what if you are a swordsman if you can use your Haki to cut the skies and damage Moby Dick? It's a completely different skill, like how one can have lightning attacks and have mantra AND wield a STAFF at the same time. So what now, Eneru/Enel is a staffsman even though his main skill is his lightning? Just who is failed to be objective here?

if your opinion, BlackHair, is

No. You might have some skills in swordsmanship, but you not committed to that. So that's why I wouldn't call you a swordsman.
that is fine. But people, including Oda, have their own choice at which they base their own opinions to call someone as a swordsman or not. Your opinion is, someone must commit completely at swordsmanship, and nothing else, to be called a swordsman. If so, then by your definition of swordsman, i state that Shanks is NOT a swordsman. But by my definition of swordsman, i state that Shanks is a swordsman, yet his main skill is not swordsmanship. Why? Because through that arc it was showed that Shanks and his crew could make all sides back off. Which meant that if the crew was removed from the equation (both Red-Hair's and Marines' and Shichibukai crews, if there were any), the removal would be much much more in Marines and Shichi's side. More removal meant the Marine + Shichi + Pacifistas + BB's crew were much more numerous and stronger than Shanks' crew. You said "fair 1vs1 fight"??? You said "don't you see his (Shanks') freaking crew behind his back"??? Don't you, BlackHair, see Admirals, Shichibukais, fresh 20 Pacifistas, BB's crew??? Those powers were more than enough, if not overwhelming, to beat Red-Hair's crew. Fair fight, you say? don't you see how much Red-Haired crew alone was at disadvantage, let alone Shanks himself? Get it in your brain.

Let's start removing until only the strongest from each sides are left, to establish fair fight like you said. Removal in the marines and BB crew would leave Sengoku, Garp as the strongest in the Marines' side, and Super BB as the strongest in BB's side. The removal would leave one Shanks as the strongest in the Red-Hairs' side. But still all sides in the war back off. Which means Shanks is Sengoku's and Garp's and Super BB's equal. Simple.

So, why did i state that Shanks' main skill is not swordsmanship? Because Shanks is stronger than Mihawk. Why is Shanks stronger than Mihawk? Because Marines including 3 admirals and 10 vice admirals (aside from Sengoku and Garp) + 20++ Pacifistas + all Shichibukais + Blackbeard's crew is stronger, much stronger, >>>, than Shanks' crew. But still all sides in the war back off. Which means Shanks is Sengoku's and Garp's and Super BB's equal. Simple.

Your logic fails hard, and you failed to see my logic, because you refuse to accept that Marine + WB crew + BB crew, despite their wounds, still formed a strength much greater than a Yonkou plus his/her crew. The only reason they would back off either with diplomacy or threat, is that Shanks is WB / Sengoku / Garp / Super BB level. There were more than ten men in Marine + WB crew + BB crew, even approaching twenty, who each could match a Shichibukai and still fresh and ready at Shanks and crews' arrival. If only you consider that for a moment, you will see how one more Marco-level person wouldn't matter at all, and only a last-tier character equal to Sengoku / Garp / Super BB would make this kind of result instead of more war. I don't deny his crews' presence, no, it is you who deny Sengoku's or Garp's still primed condition, and more than 20 fresh Pacifistas, and Super BB and his crew who were still felt that they could challenge and beat all. You denied them all. Why would any of them listen to a crew that consisted only of for example four to five Shichibukai-level? And don't say Shichibukai = fame because Shanks and Dragon and Whitebeard were not Shichibukai, their fame surpassed Shichibukai and why is that? Because each of them is stronger than a Shichibukai, thus they can't be controlled by Marine. The math of this war's result is this simple yet if you still completely overlook it by your own choice, suit yourself.

Shanks crew strength does not reflect an absolute picture of how powerful shank is. They backed off because it was the right thing to do. If Marine wants to go on and get EVERYBODY killed, then they could go ahead. But that will be the wrong decision. Again mihawk rank says nothing about his power. Why isn't he a yonko? Maybe because he doesn't wan't to or don't want to have crews. Many factor plays here. But we know if he wants to be shicibukai so that he can be free to do what he wants, why not?

I agree 100% with you that shank should be stronger. But currently we only see him using sword. If this is indeed what he uses fully, then we can make an educated guess that mihawk is superior. I am sure in the near future I will be proven wrong (I really hope so). But being bias due to titles or non existence evidence such as "he has more up his sleeve" is a really weak argument.

But my argument based from the other end. The war was stopped, thus showing the strength of Red-Hair Pirates, thus showing the strength of Shanks. That's why Shanks is last-tier (Sengoku, Garp, WB, super BB). That's why he's stronger than Mihawk. That's why he got something else up his sleeve. "The right thing to do"is seems weaker and even absurd in my opinion. Imagine you fight someone to the death for some reason really important to both you and your opponent (example, someone killed the other's family member), you desire to kill each other no matter what and both of you are in total frenzy. suddenly a person jumped in the middle and said "stop. fighting is wrong. it's pointless." and both of you stopped because it's the right thing to do? Not likely. Or because the third's person have the ability to stop both of you? Pretty much the only possibility.

Furthermore, you know what's an even weaker argument? Glorifying Mihawk like there's no tomorrow AFTER seeing that he traded blows equally with Vista. He also traded blows equally against Crocodile, who traded blows equally against Doflamingo. The world's number one swordsman? Sure, but so what? He's still equal as the other Shichibukai. There is no plot hole "as to why Mihawk would bother joining Shichi seeing he's too strong for that". There is but Mihawk fangasming.

Yeah, and we call him a Quake man because of the Devil Fruit.

You call Shanks a "Haki man" (or something like that) just because Mihawk holds the title of "greatest swordman". That's a lame reason.
So what if you are a swordsman if you can use your Haki to cut the skies and damage Moby Dick? It's a completely different skill,
You are destroying your own argument. Mihawk shoot flying air blades, that's odd too.
Those powers were more than enough, if not overwhelming, to beat Red-Hair's crew. Fair fight, you say? don't you see how much Red-Haired crew alone was at disadvantage, let alone Shanks himself? Get it in your brain.
Please tell me what are the power and abilities of each Red-hair pirates. I am really curious about that.

And no, no "Shanks alone". But I have no interest in counter-argumeting that again.
First of all, yours premises are all wrong. The Shichibukais were more on the other side than marines side. Hancock destroyed tons of Pacifistas. Blackbeard was not in the marines side. And finally there are more than 10 Vice-Admirals, but the range of strength beetween them vary a lot.

You see, all variables in your equation are wrong.
Which means Shanks is Sengoku's and Garp's and Super BB's equal. Simple.
What?

Mihawk is also last tier. He's zoro goal, a goal of possibly the next PK's first mate. Shank has not made it to hall of fame "yet" like garp, sengoku and WB.

Also I can't understand your example. The subjects of each sentence is not very clear. What I understood after WB death was MHQ had a complete victory over WB pirates. They achieved their goal, and brought one of the yonko down. WB pirates was demoralized, exhausted and have no more reason to fight. MHQ also was exhausted and have no more reason to fight. Coby yelled out that many people were KILLED without reason anymore. Just to feed each other bloodlust. All sides were in trance, Shank just slap some senses into them. If they continued it will be a 4 way battle and even more casualty. They stopped because there is no more reason to go on. Now, if BB fight which has only 10 crew or so they will get annihilated by shank's "crew". But, if you want to convince yourself with your own way of thinking fine by me.

Unlike "something up his sleeve", we have the world strongest swordsman. What evidence do you have about shank ability other than sword? Being a yonko and red hair shank does not display other skills.

Our argument is much more stronger than something sounds so immature and personal attack. What evidence do you have that shank can win against crocodile? He lost an arm to a sea monster that luffy 1 hit and got permanent scar from BB who presumably had no DF. We are not entirely sure if shank is top tier character yet, or he's a great pirates and captain to a very powerful/reliable crews.

Again, let me make my position clear. I believe shank in the future will be shown to be much more powerful than he's currently displayed. This is my "hope" as shank fan. However, there is "no"/0 evidence of that yet, that I am aware of. If we judge only by their swordsman skill, which only present until "now", Mihawk is stronger. In later dates and posts, hopefully I will switch side.

I just noticed I never posted my reasons to call Shanks a swordsman. My reasoning is based on several hints.

Red Datebook said:
本来左ききであるシャンクスはかつて、右の腰に長剣を携えていた。 ミホークとライバルだった 過去からみて も、その剣の実力は世界でもトップクラスだ ったのだろう

"At first, the left-handed Shanks had simply carried his sword on the right side. When he was a rival of Mihawk, he was regarded as having some of the world's top-class skills"

Source: Google xD
Shanks was a former rival of Mihawk, both used their top sword skills to duel, which are now considered as legendary. Rivalry means under normal circumstances that both are aiming for the same goal and of equal power. While spending 1 year in east blue he lost his left arm.

The loss of that left arm ended the equal rivalry. After all his left arm was most likely his dominant arm. We can see Shanks drawing with his left arm, later with his right arm. Now 10 years later Mihawk is carrying the title strongest swordsman. This everything in combination! with Mihawks comment-> I get it like, he lost interest in Shanks, 'cause he won the rivalry and is now stronger.

Here we see the SHs preparing for battle with their preferred weapon: Zoro and Brook (musician, his fighting style is sword-based though) are ready to draw their swords, Nami her clima-tact, Ussop his Kabuto etc. On this page we see Shanks right before a battle drawing his sword. Again his sword, here and once again. He appeared only a few times, yet portrayed in almost every occasion with a sword.

So far my theory, I took every known hint into consideration to come up with this. At this point, it seems for me as the only logical one. All facts (no speculation/opinions/rumours or fanboyism) point to Shanks being a swordsman, and nothing else at the moment.

You're right, Blackhair : so far all facts point to Shanks being a swordman.
And that was the same for Whitebeard : before the war began, all facts pointed to him being a bisentoman. That's because Oda waited to reveal his true nature. And I think it is just the same for Shanks.

Actually that is not the case, because of two titles.

Miahwk - strongest swordsman -> #1 among swordsman.
WB - strongest man -> #1 among mankind

IF WB was a swordsman, then Mihawk couldn't be the strongest swordsman, since WB was carrying the superior title. It was a matter of hierarchy. I NEVER thought for a second that WB is a swordsman. Also to be fair there are not as much hints for WB being a swordsman as for Shanks right now.

I agree. Last year, someone would show how a individual can be strong without a Devil Fruit pointing to these characters:
- Whitebeard
- Shanks
- Mihawk
- Sengoku
- Garp

You see, what all these characters had in common is that they had little screen time, and we didn't knew almost anything about them.

However, in this discussion I don't remember someone argumenting in favor of Shanks because he could have a Devil Fruit. What I saw "Haki man" claims or something like that.

Fox666,

Mihawk can do shockwaves because he has amazing, no.1, skill with sword. Whitebeard on the other hand, transfers his quake unto his bisento. He doesn't need to be the world's no.1 bisentoman. You see the difference, arent you?

First of all, yours premises are all wrong. The Shichibukais were more on the other side than marines side.Hancock destroyed tons of Pacifistas. Blackbeard was not in the marines side.
Really? Dofla, Kuma, Moria, Mihawk? Jimbei's resign, he wasn't considered a Shichi. Hancock might destroyed tons of Pacifistas, but did you see most Pacifistas gone? No. Define "tons". Is it "most"? If so, then not likely. Blackbeard's aim was to be no.1 by gaining enough powers to kill WB, and then pretty much ruling the world and destroying anyone opposing. Red-Hair Pirates came between all chaos and all sides back off.

Please tell me what are the power and abilities of each Red-hair pirates. I am really curious about that.
no need to. I know that powers gathering in the Marines combined would form a stronger power than Red-Hair crew. Because Whitebeard's crew was defeated by those sum of powers. Don't you think that powers gathering in the Marines combined would form a stronger power than Red-Hair crew?

hibar90, thanks for the clearheadedness. A Shanks fan like me, i see :amuse

I think you miss my point. Can people be so easily slapped by some sense into, when they're in complete bloodlust? What kind of war ended with "it's wrong" peacemaking? Okie, let's say Shanks has the "politeness" to make people realize that that war's continuation is wrong, but so what? Luffy (Dragon's son, the second Great Sin since Ace's existence) ain't dead yet, so the Marines have to pursue him at all costs. WB's dead, so it would be making more sense if WB crews seek revenge for him, although WB himself had said not to. But if you were a WB crew, and the Marine keeps attacking, what would you do? Flee or do nothing or merely defending, while both WB and Ace were dead by the marines in front of you? My argument on that whole "right thing and wrong thing" is, can war be stopped by a third party stating that it's wrong? If so, is it the main thing needed? Isn't it instead, the strength to stop the war?

BlackHair, thanks for the time and hardwork, i understand what you're trying to state, that Shanks' main skill is with sword. I hope you too understand that the "sword is Shanks' main skill" is not the base of my argument, but the other end of it. The foundation, instead, is the nature of the Marineford war's end.

The war was stopped, thus showing the strength of Red-Hair Pirates, thus showing the strength of Shanks. That's why Shanks is last-tier (Sengoku, Garp, WB, super BB). That's why he's stronger than Mihawk. That's why he got something else up his sleeve.

Let's get it straight!

Let's say Mihawk had a crew equivalent to Shanks or any other Yonkou, would they have stopped too? Most definitly. Antares you like to leave out, that Shanks confidence is also based on his crew backing him up. Yeah he is a last-tier pirate being a Yonkou, but so is the the strongest swordsman, in a world where people fight with either Devil-Fruit powers, Swords, martial art, projectiles or a combination of it.

What we know is:
  • the strongest Devil-Fruit user - Whitebeard is dead
  • the strongest Swordsman - Mihawk is alive
  • the Yonkou - Shanks, has most probably lost his strong arm and is a Swordsman, proven by facts in the Manga[not accepting, is ignoring facts :/]
  • Mihawk sees no challange in fighting Shanks
  • Shanks can fight Logia DF users with his HH
  • Mihwaks and Shanks are not shown to have any kind of DF
  • Shanks is freaking strong, so if Mihawk

Can we conclude from the current Manga who's stronger? NO!
