Discussion Spriggan 12 General Thread

Has anyone else felt a little underwhelmed by the Spriggan 12 thus far? I mean, these guys were hyped up to be massive threats, and it would be a life of death struggle to take them and the Alvarez Empire down, and I don't feel like the arc has really delivered that thus far. Comparing the Spriggans to the Tartarus Demons, for me the Spriggans really have been a letdown. The Tartarus demons caused some serious mental and physical damage to mages, and nearly destroyed Fiore, and I just feel like the Spriggans have been disappointing so far, or rather the writing of some of the content has left me underwhelmed. These were opponents that were supposed to be a real Struggle, and now we've had 4 get taken out of the picture, a couple of them in just awful circumstances imo; Wahl losing to lightning which shouldn't of affected him, Ajeel's loss to Erza in general. Its just felt underwhelming, and to top it off, we've seen that Aquarius and Ultear, two characters that essentially made a sacrifice, have returned, and that takes away from what they did. Just thought I'd vent my frustration at the arc a bit here :P

I don't think the hype has been diminshed.
i)Ajeel even after having a Slash From Erza's Sword on his Chest, he nearly killed Erza.It was Bisca's Firing of Jupiter that Saved Her.As Vici said they have become stronger than they were before.It is much better than Erza and Kyouka Fight.
ii)It was not Surprising As We all Knew Natsu,Jellal and laxus could solo a Spriggan.It was a difficult battle for laxus to defeat Wahl.
iii)God Serena Soloed 3 GOI +Jura.It was Acnologia who took him down.
iv)Brandish will not fight.If She Fights She Can Crush Whole Magnolia.

Also there is personality of each spriggan most of them think that they can't be defeat by anyone ( that would be a downfall of at least 2/3 more). Dimaria could use magic and kill off important characters from LM/MH before FT come to help ( even after) but she all she done was rip off some clothes..The ones that take any enemy serious is Statham(xD) , August, Invel ,Bloodman. I hope Neinheart turn out to be a real monsterl to give hard time to Kagura/Erza/Jellal ( i don't mind even Kagura dying my sec. fav. character )

Ya, they keep blabbering about how super strong they are while in reality they are yet to win a single fight. The only one who could do something was Serena but got taken down by Acnologia in one swipe.

I guess it depends on how we see this. I mean my impression so far is that the Spriggans are not just talk. They've shown some immense power and actually even more than I expected. The only one that really talked trash and got defeated was Wahl Icht. Ajeel actually lived up to the Spriggan's hype from ending the battle against Erza + Jupiter Cannon with a draw. Brandish was obviously for plot reasons. God Serena was by far the most impressive Spriggan so far and possibly one of the strongest. He also lived up to his name as he defeated the 3 Gods of Ishgar + Jura by himself. Not to mention, he never showed any signs of losing except against Acnologia who is clearly stronger than him.

Its just the feeling that this arc is not constructed well and the Tartaros Arc gave a better sense of enemy's power. On the other hand, most of the Spriggans are left and yet to show their power. Also, Ajeel will most likely be back in action. Brandish's story can't end like that. Interesting to see whether she fights for or against them. I guess, we will see their real power then.

I still believe that the Spriggans are powerful and no one is Ishgar can take anyone down single-handedly if not for plot armor (disengaging brandish), asspull (lightning that is not lightning attack of laxus against wahl) and now a very convenient battle against DiMaria (Ultear's Arc of Time vs her Age Seal and Sherria's God Slaying Magic against her Take Over: God Soul).

But if you think about it from a different perspective, Ajeel's Desert Magic; Wahl's Mechanized Weaponry and Weakness Magic; Brandish's Mass Manipulation; DiMaria's Time Magic & Take Over and God Serena's 8 Dragon Slaying Magic seems very powerful and if we knew from the start their magics, we would have a hard time formulating how the wizards of Ishgar can defeat them. But of course Mashima's machinations in this war make them look underwhelming. But I will admit, I am very excited what the magic of the other spriggans, I mean those we know about already are very powerful already, and I wonder how Mashima will top those.

I agree, disengaging Brandish and setting up Dimaria is poor writing in the part of the author IMO. I mean these 2 have very dangerous OP magic, and it seems like Mashima regretted having these powers and just worked around it underhandedly. I mean if these 2 ladies work together: Time and Mass magic, without asspulls, they can defeat the whole of Ishgar.

Well i think its like this. Every group of spriggan consists if 3 members ( north, south etc.) . I think the last of each group will be the real deal, just probably just wants to quicken the plot

I think Nth and Sth will be the weaker than the East or West. This is mainly based on Zeref(W) and August(E). The rest of the Spriggans seem to be comparable, that is I don't see much of a gap between Ajeel, Wahl or God Serena.

It could be the case that the Nth group is the weakest, given the current strength of the Isghal people in the Nth is less than Sth. Time will tell.

I am curious to death about north Spriggans. Is there any particular point or motive Hiro still hasn't revealed their identity yet? This is so much suspicious.

Well i think its like this. Every group of spriggan consists if 3 members ( north, south etc.) . I think the last of each group will be the real deal, just probably just wants to quicken the plot

I think it would be hilarious if that were true it's such a Shonen trope, i could see it though i mean August on the East,Invel on the West,Neinhart is South Than whoever it ends up being in the North.

We know 4 are heading to Magnolia for sure. They need to defeat the North-South groups and return to fight these 4. Only Natsu is left in the guild. If Gildart return that's still just 2.

Honestly if those people you mentioned can't beat Neinhart then it's over for Isghal. Tbh Jellal should be very strong right now, enough to beat a shield by himself.

I somehow think that not all 3 spriggans are still in North we only have been told that by Warren i thinking that one of them would making his/her way to FT as well .
As for Neinhart it would be Jellal/Erza/Kagura vs him i doubt that anyone would join them ,Hiro will probably keep Gray and Juvia in good condition for later events the only person that can join them is Meldy ( cause of Jellal) .

If it was a single matter, Fiore could just send Jenny against Wahl =) But magic power of caster is far more essential.

To be honest, there is possibility that she can even defeat August. You know, she's pretty, very pretty and August may be old single--he can fall in love to Jenny and lose his will of fight . Well, it's not actually "defeat", it's more like "remove from action".
(Ofc, it's joke--just in case that somebody will take it seriously)

I wonder who Lucy will fight. When the prelude to battle chapter came out I got the impression that maybe Lucy does fight August, or that Team Natsu gets to fight him which would be kinda cool.

Brandish is also at the guild. She can provide FT with information about the spriggan's weakness. And well, we should not forget makarov, he is still a powerful wizard.
Maybe we will have more unexpected persons (take ultear for example)
